@@Scowleasy I hear you, I think glass is the ugliest material in the game and whenever I use light armor I always skip it, especially if I'm playing a stealth character. But even if I'm not playing a stealth character, it's just so gaudy. Edit: just to clarify, glass weapons are fine, it's the armor that I hate.
In regards to the Chitin Shield, no, you do not want things striking the center of the shield. Think about where a weapon slash/swing would hit if you held a shield; it would hit the edge of the shield, and that's why you will often see shields with some sort of reinforcement along the edge. The only time something would hit the center is with a projectile attack or a thrust, and at that point you'd either angle the grip in your hand to deflect the strike away (because if you angle it relative to an incoming attack there is more material to go through) or do the same with a boss to deflect it. A boss is a defensive (usually metal) protrusion that is placed on the center of the shield; they are intended for defense, but sometimes you see a spike on them that can be used to strike. A shield is also meant to be held somewhat away rather than tight against the body as seen in the game. The further away you hold it the larger the angle of attacks that your shield defends from becomes.
I was gonna complain about the lack of unique shields, before remembering all but 1 of them are Heavy Armor. And the one that IS Light Armor shouldn't count because it's both a Switch Exclusive, and has notoriety as one of the most Iconic Shields in all of gaming: The Hylian Shield from The Legend of Zelda.
I went thorough the extremely painful process of signing into my account with rural BC wifi (or, more accurately, the lack thereof) just so I could subscribe to your channel. Turned out I'd already done it. 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back lmao. Totally worth it. You make good shit, man. I'll brave off-grid Canadian internet access any day of the week for you (assuming that it actually exists on the day I try to brave it).
Heater Shields in general have my favorite shield profile. Something about it just looks so... hot. Also the second that stalhrim shield popped up I was wondering why they had a foil wrapped shield. lol
My favorite and most used shield is the Spellbreaker shield. It doesn't just block weapons like single handed, two handed and arrows. But it also blocks spells and dragons breath. So ward spells are no longer needed when using that shield. It is a daedric artifact and needs dwarven metals for upgrading.
Just want to say that I really appreciate the puns you use in your videos. It's not every day one can still encounter another who appreciates the ancient arts.
i wonder if spellbreaker (The uniqe dwemmer shield that you get from a dedric quest and can ward you from spells when blocking with it) will have its own spot in that video. i think it should considering 1 the design is defenitly different from the regular dwemmer shield and two it is the only shield with that effect in the game
My favorite melee combat build is using the Armor of Boethiah in conjunction with The Targe of The Blooded to bash enemies for the 3 points bleed damage while poisoning them with the 5pts of poison damage from the armor. Even at level 40 it shreds bandits and falmer alike.
These are some good videos, even when you rank the mace of Molag Bal low for be being too thicc. Looking forward to the two-handers getting ranked, and the armors of you’re up for that. I’m curious of your take on Volendrung.
I was thinking of Auriel’s Shield. Checking on the wiki. It exists in the Forgotten Vale Forest as a lootable item, but _it isn’t on the shield list_ (heavy)! I wonder what a light version of it would be like.
Hide Shield for me. As every shield can be enchanted and smithed to legendary status, it's the weight that counts for me the most. The Hide Shield weight only 4 and is I think the lightest in the game. It looks great with its Nordic design too.
You gotta remember, it doesn't have to look good because lore wise Stalhrim is invulnerable to anything but specific type of Stalhrim pick axe and our character gets to keep the only one left
Im doing my first ever high elf, block/1h playthrough right now and the shield charge is such a fun perk to unlock. Honestly have to give the edge to heavy shields also they're just better in every way.
While I love the Elven and Glass Armor sets, including the shield, I never where these when playing a human, mostly for role-playing purposes. So with those shields excluded, I only really like two: Hide Shield because it looks good with virtually everything and Dawnguard Rune Shield because it's like the Holy Grail of light shields.
I like small round shields in 3rd person games. In skyrim it's the bloody targe or a guard shield. In dragon age origins i only used the small metal shield on my main character. That general theme. Smaller shields are more practical as well.
You seem to have missed the city guard shield. Like the hide shield, it's simple and round, but has the Hold insignia on it. So if you want to show Skyrim which Hold is your favorite, you can pick this shield.
Spot on with the chitin shield, but you did say “correct me if I’m wrong” so….. Technically speaking you’d want a combatant to strike the edge of your shield to try and stick their blade in/have less impact on your arm holding it
I don't necessarily mind most shield design ideas, one thing that I HATE about shields in skyrim is how damn thick most of them are. It's like, bruh, why am I carrying around a slab of metal that's thicked than my torso?
I like the hide shield. Simple and found very early in the game it can serve mw well for much of any playthrough. Reminds me of a highlanders targe and is not tto big and clunky
I thought Auriel's Shield was Light? Or are you leaving Legendary Items (this one can be 100% not even known about, it took me nine years before I even knew about it) off the lust?
I've been playing since 2011, played the original, remastered and all the dlc's, defeated karstaag and the ebony warrior, tried all the mods and now you're telling me Skyrim has shields😮. Imma restart skyrim within 5 minutes
Targe of the Bloodied is the most unique shield in Skyrim... It does additional bashing damage and when you have 100 in block and all the perks, you may not even have to swing your sword once.
I understand why you don't like the Stallrim shield, though I disagree. My take on the general wonkiness of Stallrim anything is that They focussed too much on the lore of Stallrim being difficult to Smith. Couple that with the fact that the only ones who know how to work it are the Skall, and well there ya go. I would have liked to see what the elves would have done with it had they learned how to work it. I see Stallrim as having a very particular beauty if it were treated like Glass or Amber. That all being said, my favorite way the use Stallrim is to have it as the bracers and leg guards coupled with either dwarvish or eleven armour. The Golden colour of the armour set contrasts with Stallrim well I think. In this I think the shield works too. It's kind of like a full body version of the aethutium crown. (As a side note, I hate most of the halls and prefer the circlets/crowns instead) Strangely, my favorite helm set is the dragon helmets, followed closely by the calmer ones (with a nod to the shelling helm). Even more than the armor set, the helmets just say "I'm a badass, don't f*** with me" like nothing else. Anyway, Stallrim as an accent works much better than as a centerpiece.
what happened to the Targe of the blooded? since i play skyrim on xbox one, i can't seem to find it anywhere while before i had it on every save i made, without even trying, is it not in the game anymore or something? (i know it's a heavy shield that's why it's not in the video) also i love the basic iron/steel stuff, i wish they weren't so quickly underpowered

Fun fact the word "shield" was used 99 times in this video 💀
The fact the tower shield isn't even a tower shield.
The fact that that this game is over 10 years old and I have never fucking heard of these shields
I got 99 shields but not a heavy one
Wouldnt it have made more sense to just rank all shields, not just light?

@rileyhuffman5005 but they would be unga-bungaing with added fervor in the rift compared to home turf! 😁
