    Hey Mr. Shelf. Strider sounds right up my alley. Always love second tier opening acts. I always passed on Moxy, maybe I was being a musical snob to one of my fellow Canadian bands. Their records are quite collectible here. Tucky sounds interesting as does Ursa. Thanks for featuring albums other than the classic rock drock a lot of channels go on about. Cheers.

      A love of second tier opening acts sounds like the ultimate backhanded compliment 😂. I love these flawed underdogs, too.

    Love the Ursa Major album. I saw them live supporting Alice Cooper in the early 1970's. Thanks, Chris

    Thanks for for taking the time out to make another great video. Again some intriguing albums to follow up on, namely Usra Major and Storm. Keep the videos coming, looking over your shoulder you certainly have many more gems to enlighten us with. Cheers

      Thanks, Cliff. There's certainly plenty more gems where these came from. My problem is unplugging the turntable for long enough to make videos about all these records.

    I've been touting Storm - "Storm" since it came out to fellow hard rock geeks but I've always stood alone - until you pulling it off your shelves here! Right on, man! And, I agree with you that they needed a producer to reign them in and tighten up the sound - and it leaves the listener with a sense of 'if only they....'. Still, for all its overheated ambition and free ranging, it's a keeper.
    I'm guessing you've talked about this elsewhere but the self-titled album from late 70s Seattle hard rockers, 1994 is a MUST to talk about...amazing Jack Douglas production and Brad Whitford(Aerosmith) is all over the place laying down a wall of classic Whitford rhythm beds(and their bass player jaw dropping). The lead singer, Karen Lawrence, had/has an amazing range on full display - and this one should been huge b/c is fell right into the Heart world of the late 70s.
    And, dude! Pulling Ursa Major down from the walls...brilliant.
    Now, my Moxy mainstay will always be the 3rd one, "Ridin' High", just 80% strong, hard rocking material - and "Wet Suit" from Moxy II is a cranker. Keep it up!

      @notlameguy Hi Bruce. I haven't shown either of 1994's albums yet. To be honest, until you mentioned 1994 in your comment, I hadn't spun them in years (an oversight I'll be putting right very soon). ☮️

      @@MrShelf-Stacker With the Whitford trackings on the 1994 album, put the headphones on - they are distinctive and clearly Brad - and brilliant.

    Been looking for Moxy I for years. Never turns up in Australia. Have all their other releases.

      It's frustrating how often LPs are ten-a-penny in some countries and rare as rocking horse shit in others. Hope you find a copy soon!

    I bought a copy of that Strider album years ago at a car boot sale in Portsmouth. It would have been in 1993. And I can honestly say you are the first person that I've seen to own another copy since that date. I like your description of them being 'a fairly substantial support band'. it suits them.

    • @MrShelf-Stacker

      Sounds like Strider definitely tick the 'obscure' box then. Did you like the album when you first heard it in '93? Have you listened to it lately?

      @@MrShelf-Stacker In those days old records were seen in much the same way that old CDs are seen now. They were ten a penny and kind of sad. The Strider album was something to spin on my record player in my student digs when I had only a handful of records with me from home. I kept it, so I suppose it wasn't too bad. But I cringe now when I think of the albums I picked up in those times at car boot sales and ditched if I didn't take an instant liking to them. I last played the Strider album about six years ago. Maybe it's time pull it out for a spin. 🙃

      One of the best Hard Rock albums from the 70s. A stone cold Classic.

      I have a reissue of the Jerusalem LP. It's a great listen! The Jade Warrior records are hard to come by in my experience. I still need to grab a copy of their debut. Cheers for dropping by. ☮️

    I have the first Strider LP and I really dig it! Never heard that one tho Gonna have to check it out! I don’t know about there but that Moxy album isn’t cheap where I’m from It’s like $30-50 lol! If you really want a heavy killer Tucky Buzzard you should get the album “Warm Slash” Also produced by Bill Wyman It’s an ass kicker! I think he also produced them when they were The End. I absolutely love The Frost that you mentioned so man I need to get that Ursa Major! Great stuff! ✨✌️👽✨

    • @MrShelf-Stacker
      @MrShelf-Stacker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Crazy that a record by a Canadian band is cheaper in the UK than in the States. The Moxy LPs crop up for sale here pretty regularly, and they tend to be under £10 when they do. Just checked my database, and it says I bought Moxy II in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 2013 for $3, so perhaps Moxy are just another victim of the vinyl revival price hikes. Cheers for the Tucky Buzzard recommendation: I obviously need to hear more by them. Warm Slash is now added to my wantlist. I love Frost too, especially their Through The Eyes Of Love LP. You'll definitely get off on Ursa Major!

    Rob Elliott was the singer on the 2nd Second Hand album. Far from hard rock, it is very experimental & in a world all it's own. The closest I can compare it to would perhaps be Ege Bamyasi by Can. Being a big fan of the Frost, I will have to try to track down that Ursa Major record. Jello Biafra described The Boyzz as "the last good pre-punk hard rock album" .

    • @MrShelf-Stacker
      @MrShelf-Stacker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, both Second Hand LPs are very experimental and well worth checking out. Hadn't heard that Jello Biafro quote before - good to know I'm not alone in rating the Boyzz album.
