Mr Shelf-Stacker
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ต.ค. 2011
Hi. I'm Mr Shelf-Stacker; so-called because my shelves are stacked high with vinyl. Of course, I don't really stack my records and nor should you: shelve them vertically if you know what's good for them.
I've been collecting records for 40+ years. Sometimes I might show the odd CD, but mostly vinyl is what's on offer here. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but I do play my records on the best vintage hi-fi gear I can afford. I owe them that.
My favourite genres are Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Psychedelia, Progressive Rock, Jazz, Power Pop, and a bit of Soul, Funk, Punk and Reggae when the mood takes me. The first single I remember buying with my own money was Love Is Like Oxygen by The Sweet, but I'm pretty sure there's a David Soul 7" lurking in my past. As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to music, there's no such thing as a guilty pleasure. What's there to feel guilty about? Man up already!

Welcome back, great response to the tag, so right about the live album with Thin Lizzy, it's so freaking good. Have a great one and cheers!
I'm bursting with envy for Garden Shed for £40, one of my favourite albums, I have a reissue but would love a 'proper' copy. And £6 for Badger that's amazing.
Great pick ups ,I've been looking for garden sheds for years never see it in the wild maybe I'll have to look online ..
Mortimer is an album I want to pick up. The rest are a good bunch of records.
It's odd how different places have easy and hard to find albums. When I lived in L.A. I used to see Hudson Brothers records all the time. Often in dollar bins. I think I have all of them. Possibly doubles of most. Now I live in Toronto, I don't think I've seen one in five years.
Wonderful variety on the list so far, which is how I tend to collect as well. And it’s a good reminder to me to check out a few of the ones you’ve talked about before. Do you know much about that unreleased second Mortimer record that was finally put out in recent years? I’m curious about both of them. Thanks for sharing.
I love seeing other people's list, as I almost always learn something. Yours had six bands that I was completely unfamiliar with and I've been collecting what's broadly called power pop since the seventies. My own tastes in the genre lean more towards the Power end of the spectrum and my own list would have The Beat (Paul Collin's 1979 debut lp), The Flamin' Groovies, Dwight Twilley Band and Badfinger in my Top Ten. Nice to see that fellow travelers Cheap Trick, Big Star and The Records made your list. Thanks for doing this, it was fun to discover new music.
Always great presentations. Roger Waters : Wanker!
One of the better vinyl tags, a bit more interesting.
Cheers!
Cool tag! I also struggled with some of the questions myself, I had to change and alter some of them so I wouldn’t be showing so many very recognisable albums😅 But I did pick AC/DC for the lyric questions. Not seen your channel before, Iv liked and subbed 👍
Thanks Martin. I've checked out and subscribed to your channel too: an interesting selection of records!
I think record label art and presentation is quite underrated. I’ve often thought of doing a collage using some of them. I don’t know if I’d want to be anyone else. The better question is whether there is someone you wish you could sing or play like? So many possibilities there. Of the countless acts I never saw live but could have or was considering, I regret The Who and Little Richard.
If I could choose to play like anyone, it would be Ian Paice. I've always loved his drumming. I saw the Who once, almost 30 years ago, but without Keith Moon it didn't feel like the real deal.
Glad you're back. Sweet was on great band. Never get tired of thier great songs.
A much misunderstood band!
Great video! I love that Priest album as well and used it in a thread response I did where I only used Metal albums, and that was my choice for Metal album I played the most. Sabbath! Thin Lizzy is a great choice. R. Waters, yep. We picked different people to be reincarnated as, but picked them for the same reason, the way they lived with reckless abandon! Great choice with Sweet. Kudos to having the strength to wait until 2025 to do this tag. I had no will power 😹 and did it fairly early on in December. Well done! Cheers
Thanks Bobby. I watched your video and enjoyed it, as always. There was no strength involved in waiting until 2025 to make my tag video. Laziness, yes! 😂
@ 😹
Aw, "Welcome Interstate Managers" -- the greatest pop album of the 21st Century so far. And one of the saddest. The melancholy tone of "Hackensack" (and "All Kinds of Time" and "Valley Winter Song" and "Fire Island" and...) breaks my heart. I fell in love with it on a plane from Los Angeles to Kauai (Hawaii) the day after Christmas, 2003, when I listened to it repeatedly on my iPod all the way across the Pacific Ocean. Sunny (in a hazy way) and wintry at the same time, it's one of my most treasured albums (and the only Fountains of Wayne issued on LP, I think).
Thanks for the juicy selections -- quite a few totally new to me, so I appreciate the tips! The first sounds that come to mind when I think of "Power Pop" are from a few key tracks: Phil Spector's Wall of Sound productions, particularly The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" (1963); Runt's "We Gotta Get You a Woman" (1970); Todd Rundgren's "I Saw the Light" (1972 -- yes, I know he's Runt, too); Badfinger's "Baby Blue" (1972); Big Star's "September Gurls" (1974); the Plimsouls' "A Million Miles Away" (1981); Prince's "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" (1987); and the Pixies' "Here Comes Your Man" (1989). Everything else falls within the parameters established by those big, thundering, melodic, propulsive landmarks. Popularity, one way or another, has nothing to do with it.
I just stumbled across this video today, and I can see that you're going to keep me busy for a while, love it. I've recently gone back and listened to Game Theory's first album as they have been remastering their catalogue. Same goes for the dbs album Repercussion which I personally like more than their first Stands for Decibels. Great upload.
Another cool video, even though I'm a CD collector, I like to see what titles / bands you are into and have discovered. I remember the Salty Dog from the 90's, same time as two other great bands from that era, namely Tora Tora and XYZ ! On a 70's rock vein, have you heard / own any Esperanto Rock Orchestra ? their debut is one of my top albums and on the southern rock front, check out a band called Thunderhead (not the German metal band), these guys are from Oklahoma and are one of the few bands I've heard that have great drumming / guitars / melodies and Flute !! (not country rock style like Marshall Tucker). Keep up the good work 😊
@luytondriman6236 I do like XYZ's Don Dokken-produced debut (unsurprisingly, it sounds a lot like Dokken). I used to own a Tora Tora CD many years ago but must have lost/sold/traded it at some point. Esperanto are an interesting band. I have their 3 records. It's been a while since I gave them a spin, so I'll definitely be digging them out again on your recommendation. That Thunderhead LP is great, with Mick Dagger (surely not his real name?) on vocals and flute. Eventually, I might get around to showing some of these records in one of my videos: all worthy of a wider audience. Cheers.
Yeah, nice series, enjoy your presentation style and music your selection is different from the norm and I also like the idea that you READ ! as do I !!
@@luytondriman6236 And I like the fact that when I click on your channel, the first thing I see is Guthrie Govan! Thanks for the words of encouragement. ☮️
I saw Atlantis Philharmonic a half a dozen times back in 73-74. They were a fantastic live band! Joe used to play organ (right hand), guitar (left hand), bass pedals and sing all at the same time. Truly astounding. Thanks for the positive review of the album
@suspenso1313 Wow! I would have loved to see them live. With so much going on on the album, I half thought they might have been a studio-only project. Great to hear that they could reproduce their sound live.
@@MrShelf-Stacker This is a copy of my review on Rate Your Music (sorry to be so long-winded.) Very Good, But They Were Magical In Concert I saw Atlantis Philharmonic half a dozen times back in 1973-75. We'd go to high schools, dance clubs and concert venues to see them, and even went to the Agora one cold December night to see them open for Rush. They were a FANTASTIC live band. It's difficult to imagine--Joe Difazio was an amazing keyboardist, in the Emerson-Wakeman-Argent vein, but what was astounding was what he did in addition. There were times when he would play keyboard with his right hand, electric guitar with his left, while singing, and playing bass pedals with his feet---all at the same time! And Royce Gibson was no slouch either, complementing Joe Difazio's amazing playing. They played a few covers, but mostly focused on originals, and their originals were stupendous! I recently found a set list that I'd written down from one of their shows in 1974: Atlantis Peer Gynt Suite Dust Witch The Battle America The Woodsman Spaceship Ride Deathman Atlas Visions The Night Creatures We AP fans were very excited when we found out they were releasing an album...but a little disappointed when it came out. The execution of the songs felt a little stiff. Only "The Woodsman" seemed to convey the magic they displayed live. I'd never heard two of the songs before (Fly The Light, and My Friend)) and honestly, I wasn't that impressed. "Atlas" was one of those songs that Joe did his one-man band thing on, and it breathed fire in concert. On the album, it's good, but a pale reflection of the live versions. The recent CD editions include a few live tracks, and there is still talk of Atlantis putting out a live album (fingers crossed) so I still have hope of reliving the magic that was Atlantis Philharmonic. At least I have the album to *kind of* remember.
Some great finds I have to look into.
Hi and thanks Can you Please add the list? Make Yourself a great favor : teen machine "after School special" Best
The Dave Mathew’s Band is boring shite. But that album peaks my interest. Happy Xmas 🕊️🎶🎸❤️🔥
Maybe that's why the Dave Matthews' Lillywhite Sessions remains unreleased: the record company thought it wasn't shite enough. Can't say I'm in a rush to check out the DMB back catalogue. Happy Hanukkah Mazzy. 🕎 ☮️
I got into Rosalie Cunningham when you showed her first album back in the day and had a lot of trouble getting hold of a copy but finally managed to. When the second one came out I couldn't get it at all and now the 3rd one came and I finally ordered 2 and 3 from her website (I didn't before because I no longer live in England and didn't want to pay the sometimes big import fees). The website said they wouldn't be sent until the new year because she's on tour but they came last week, so that was a nice early Christmas present! (and there were no fees this time).
I'm glad I turned you on to some great music! RC's albums do have a habit of selling out pretty quickly, especially the limited coloured vinyl pressings. Import fees have become a real pain since Brexit, but for some artists it's worth the extra cost. Thanks for your support in 2024.
Great video as ever..blah..blah..blah...I always keep a tally on albums I own that you discuss..four on this particular video (Squeeze, Rosalie Cunningham, New York Dolls, U2). I'm sure you get plenty of recommendations with each post..so here's mine for this one - Bobbie Dazzle "Fandabidozi" on Rise Above records...it's a heavier, glam rock Rosalie Cunningham and my album of the year for 2024..Merry Crimbo, all the best for 2025
Funnily enough, Bobbie Dazzle supported Rosalie Cunningham when I saw her at the Lexington. An interesting mix of hard rock and seventies glam. I'll have to give the album a listen.
Hey man! Sorry to hear about the slipped discs . Good to see another video though. Pain Killer is a great album. I’ll have to check out that Squeeze album. I love that Sabbath album! I just picked up that Stone Fury album a few months ago. Agree with you on Kingdom Come. NY Dolls, great 2nd album. Happy Holidays & Cheers 🎄
Cheers, Bobby. I saw Kingdom Come at Giants Stadium in NJ back in '88 with Van Hagar, Metallica, Dokken etc and they were a great live band. Happy holidays!
@ Wow! Great concert bill!
Deep Feeling = Jim Capaldi = Traffic
Are you saying that you think they sound alike, or is there a Jim Capaldi link to Deep Feeling that I'm unaware of?
I’m a fan of Squeeze, but haven’t heard any of their modern music or seen them live. The other recent albums and acts sound like they’re worth investigating as well. Thanks for sharing. Happy holidays!
Don't hold back on seeing Squeeze live if you get the chance. They were fantastic!
Interesting! Most of these lps I am not aware of. I wiil check them out on the internet and give them a listen. Thanks for the reviews.
My pleasure. Hope you hear something you like!
GREAT updates!!! Gives me ideas on what to look out for. Thanks for the info on these releases
Wow, Eyes of Blue, (Big Sleep Bluebell wood) only ever seen my copy!
Mine is the only copy I've seen in the flesh. Never thought I'd find it, let alone for so cheap!
Nice pickups, cool that you picked up a Janne Schaffer album. What a bugger with the Porcupine Three. But still a huge pile to spin, enjoy it. Cheers
Similar to Hedley up north going to York racecourse looks a decent different from the norm fair. There was a lifeblud album in my local shop and I took a chance on it and yes it's got a real nice sound and good songwriting to it. From Hertfordshire area apparently.
Yeah, it's good to take a break from the usual digging spots and try somewhere different. Record fairs definitely seem to be my number one source these days. Lifeblud are good as long as you can get over the sonic limitations as these records were never given a full production job.
I saw Stray live in S Albans in 1973 or 4 i was 14 0r 15 .Aboslutely brilliant. Very loud my ears were ringinging for a few days. Loved Suicde
@mitchelmayes6180 Must have been great! I used to see loads of bands at St Albans City Hall in the early to mid 1980s. I remember Uriah Heep being particularly loud.
That Cher album is excellent.
Better than the Shoop Shoop Song, that's for sure!
Some crazy bargains there mate. The 31st of February for £2.50 is ridiculous, think I paid £40 or £50 and my sleeve is vg. Can't believe a dealer would price it so low, even with the mark. Same with the Big Sleep...I paid 3 figures for mine. Point me in the direction of dealers selling records like that so cheap 😄 Cheers Nige
It just shows there are still bargains to be had! To be honest, if I'd found 31st of February for £50 I'd have stumped up the cash too. I'm almost embarrassed to have got it so cheap.
Congrats on the massive record fair haul! Sounds like there were deals to be had. I hope you're able to track down the book ends to the Porcupine Tree triple album. Great deal nonetheless. Thanks for sharing your fair finds!
I hope so too! But I won't hold my breath. 😂
Hi , great prices at kempton hopefully I’ll get down next year, my sons in London so it would make sense to use that , I’m heading over to den Bosch in April hopefully I’ll find good value like you did. Cheers 👍
Den Bosch will dwarf Kempton. Hope you have deep pockets and a very large bag! If you make it to the next Kempton fair, drop me a line. Cheers.
A lot of goof stuff there, I've been looking for Terry Reid that's a great find. I'm particularly drawn to the cheap unknowns with psychedelic sleeves!
It was refreshing to take a punt on some records without exhaustively researching them on Discogs first. Reminded me of when I started crate digging in the mid-80s and would buy things on a hunch. Hope you find Terry Reid soon. Great LP!
Some of those tables had the right price point to indulge. Thanks for referencing Terry Brooks in regard to Vic Trigger. I am streaming the Vic Trigger now. - Chris
My pleasure! Hope you enjoy Vic Trigger as much as I am.
Hi, I showed Splash of Colour in one of my psych compilation videos. It came out in 82 I think and documents the new psychedelic scene that was happening in London at the time. I was involved in that to an extent. The Do tor who narrates part of it was the dj in the psych clubs and later had a few hits with the medics.Take 444
I knew I'd seen that comp somewhere before! Must have been on your channel. I saw Dr and the Medics live many years ago around the time they had their freak hit with Spirit In The Sky. Were they considered sell-outs by the psych underground?
What a day you had Mr. Shelf. That half price table was worth the admission alone. I’ve been looking for that Cher record. Been getting her early period kitsch records. Groundhogs for first quid? Outstanding. Great haul. Cheers.
Hi Jack. Yep, quite a day! Just as well that this particular fair is only on twice a year, or I'd be destitute. I only discovered the half price table towards the end of the day, so who knows what I missed! Not sure how that 31st February LP was passed over by everyone who was there before me. Cheers.
Great stuff, sadly no record fairs here, best regards from in Isaan n.e. thailand, the main rice growing region.
Unfortunate that you don't have record fairs, but you have the consolation of being in one of the most beautiful countries I've ever visited. Thanks for watching. ☮️
Firesign theater were pretty interesting radio theater albums. Sort of counter culture updates of 40s dramatic radio shows. Big for stoners. Love that Terry Reid and the Cher is great. ❤️🔥
" i wonder where Ruth is"?
I think with Firesign Theatre, perhaps you had to be there. My kids don't get Fawlty Towers or Black Adder, but to me they're comedy gold. Terry Reid is fantastic. I purged the Cher LP once before, but might hang onto this copy.
@MrShelf-Stacker I think humor is a fading gift
@@brucybabyy7355 I think you're right.
@MrShelf-Stacker I watched jeselniks stand up I laughed till I stopped. Most will find it offensive
Great bag for such an expedition. I might try to find one like that for myself though I’ve still never been to a record fair before! I think it’s high time I try and visit one finally, perhaps in the coming year. Thanks again for sharing. You always put me onto new artists and records to check out. Your channel is fantastic.
I had an inkling that I would need a bigger bag than usual. Charity shops are a dead loss these days, car boots are overrun with dealers and record stores can be hit and miss. Get yourself to a record fair asap! Cheers for your support: it's much appreciated. 👍🏻
@@MrShelf-Stacker What type of bag is it that you got? I’ve been looking around at some and I’m mostly seeing ones with hard lid tops and frames which look a bit cumbersome to carry around. I’d much rather a soft carry type with the flap top. Thanks!
@jackblondie9424 I wish I could steer you towards a good retailer of similar bags, but I picked mine up in a charity shop a few years ago, and it's unbranded. It's strong and weighs virtually nothing. Another lucky find!
Wow! What a haul! I have all the Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation albums - that one is killer. Stray is great. Have their first 5 albums on CD. Cheers
Listened to the Aynsley Dunbar LP today: great stuff, and a superb recording! Stray deserved to be so much bigger than they ever were. ☮️

Another great video and some amazing content! I’d really like to check out that first album you showed Harmony Grass I love some good 60’s pop stuff! Jane’s addiction were such a dynamic band! That album is among my fave Alt Rock bands from the early 90’s All it took was for me was to hear Mountain Song and I was hooked! Hey there’s a great documentary on Amazon Prime about the Lollapalooza Festival and Perry Farrell is a big part of it Def worth checking out if you haven’t already! Man I miss Tom Petty band. I actually spun Damn the Torpedos a week or so ago and all my junior high school memories came flooding back! I’ll def check out that TP record! QOTSA are absolutely slamming! Such a unique vibe in their music! I have the Rated R LP and still sounds killer! The last thing I’d want at a QOTSA show would be Oliveri’s steaming pile of cawk swinging anywhere near me! LoL! Great video! Peace ✌️👽

Hey Mr SS! Yeah we over here across the pond are in for 4 years of chaos and possibly even more dangerous repercussions I’m going to go out on a limb that these next 4 years will also be world changing so buckle up my friend! WOW some killer records here and some I’ve not heard of but am def interested in checking out! That Strange Sounds book looks cool I love stuff like that! I have that Silver Apples LP and when the mood strikes I bust it out! If you like them check out Tonto’s Expanding Headband They’re similar and quite good! Man I’d love to find a half decent priced Soundgarden album! In the local RS they’re pushing $50! Great find!
