@@witchBoi_Connor well im pretty sure that halo 4 had a different writer than halo 5 so im trying to say that halo 4 writers knew who the main character was unless im wrong.
I also remember when chief nearly died hundreds of times to regular elites. Don’t act like chief is a god. He can easily die and has come close many times
Bro buy an old Xbox 360 just to play Halo. Fellow PlayStation diehard telling you this. Just for the story. I know you like PlayStation for the storyline games. It's worth it now. Even maybe an cheap old Xbox one.
+freakyskull516 Wasn't just similar medical records, they were the absolute genetic elite, top 0.00000000001%, genetic freaks without any training or enhancement. Also John was not the fastest or strongest, smartest is debatable. What made him different was the fact that he was the best leader among them all, and thus become the ranking officer, hence his rank Master Chief Petty Officer.
The Liar Behind You Then you should remember that it was also Halsey herself that said "He [John] is neither the smartest, nor the fastest, nor the strongest of the Spartans. But he is the bravest, and quite possibly the luckiest. And in my opinion, he is the best." There is a reason Halsey said it was her opinion that John was the best, not the research showed he was the best. Because if you look at research on strength, speed, intelligence, marksmanship, melee combat, size, technical skills, etc.. John was not the best. You should also remember that it was John's actions and leadership that unified the Spartan recruits and wielded them into an effective fighting force. Halsey came to her opinion after witnessing John throughout the Spartan training. On a side note: 'Luck' as an attribute is unscientific flair, but a fitting addition to the main protagonist of the universe, considering all the insane suicide missions he survives the writers added it in to help counterbalance any feelings of plot armour.
+The Liar Behind You Nope. There is nothing in his character progression that suggests that. Also, blue team is still alive. Fred is stronger, Kelly is faster, & Linda is a better marksman, if you read the books you'd know that. The only way he could become the the strongest, fastest, smartest, etc, would be if the one's above him in those aspects died. Considering physically crippled Spartans are working in intelligence, there's also no reason to believe he's the smartest. You're just projecting your feelings onto the character because he's the protagonist. Edit: In actual fact, it's very clear his character was never supposed to be the best in those aspects. To prevent him from becoming a complete 'Gary Stu' as it would be childish writing to simply make him #1 at everything. Good characters need flaws and adversity. MC doesn't need to be the strongest when his leadership wields the strength of all the Spartans who follow him, and so on. That is good writing, the books aren't some superman bullshit.
Halsey and Cortana have also considered Noble 6 as hyperlethal, with Chief being the only other Spartan to attain this description. They both consider Six to be equally as effective and deadly as Master Chief. But Six died before Chief became mister super badass, so...
Even my mom knew who the Halo man was. Once told her his name was Master Chief and her response "Oh so you play as the president?" And for years now I've been waiting for a game where MC takes the oval office
Masterchef is an actual military rank in the navy though. Only a handful of people have ever held it but its right below admiral if I remember currectly.
@@halogeek6 a master chief is the highest enlisted rank, and admiral is an officer rank. There are plenty of people that have held the rank of master chief
Are we all forgetting the chiefs evolution as a human was forcibly accelerated by the librarian. He is literally a genetically perfect evolved human and 343 wants us to believe he would have lost to a roided odst.
1. Only thing librarian did was to protect him against the didact laser 2. He didn’t loose, it was well stated that chief had the advantage form the beginning but he wasn’t interested in fighting, if you had a higher IQ than room temperature you would have known that 3. Locke is an amazing and skilled ODST that’s why the ONI sent him to kill the Arbiter, stop the civil war, kill Jul Undama and stop chief
You literally cannot make a stronger soldier than a Spartan II, they scoured the entirety of human civilization to find the children with the absolute best DNA. Not only that, but Master Chief specifically is identified by Cortana and Halsey as basically being the luckiest person alive - like, he scientifically measurable amounts of luck, that's how fucking lucky he his. That's why Cortana chose him, that's why he saved the world, and that's why he's all that's left. He is a mortal god.
Spartan IIIs from Gamma Company and Cat 2 Spartan IIIs are all equal to or above the Spartan IIs. Noble Six is quite literally the best Spartan to have lived.
Agnt Vermont PF not to get all preachy but s3’s were the worst of the lot. No where near as physically enhanced as s2’s and most didn’t even get majolnir armor. S4’s got mk2 armor at that. S2’s were monsters with or without the suit. S4’s were monsters with the suit. S3’s were Badass. But definately not better than s2’s Edit- noble six is the only other character to be said to have “ hyper Lethal status”. The other is chief. I would say he is still second. You know being a player character and all
@@jamesluttrell9564 Actually they were as physically enhanced as the S2s. Their augmentations were safer than theirs in fact. The only thing that set them apart was armor and time in combat. If you take a look at S3 training, it is improved S2 training in a shorter time span. The only reason the S3s died so much is the nature of the missions they were sent on. If you seen all S2s to go do PROMETHEUS or TORPEDO, they would not succeed and just die.
Noble Six is arguably the only Spartan who could step up to Chief. They're both literally the only ones to ever be classified as Hyper Lethal Vector by the UNSC
I don't think locke was even considered Hyper Lethal was he? He might have had a fighting chance if he was, but the mjolnir armor is stronger than his by default so i don't know.
The best part it is he literally is the story its not a world he lives in its him the world revolves around hes a myth and a religous deity or devil Hes that famous and op
Literally, It was Master Chief's actions, not only the UNSC, that created the conflicts and resolutions of Halo 2 and 3. If he didnt destroy the Halo in CE, not only the galaxy's live-beings would've been exterminated in order for the flood to die of starvation, Thel' Vadam would never get punished at the start of Halo 2 for failing to Guard the First Halo and prevent It from being destroyed, and become the arbiter and then find out about their lies and turn against the prophets, not to mention about the entirety of Halo 3's story and temporary teamup of both Elites and Marines in order to stop Truth and his Brute army from destroying the galaxy over his lies and ego. And mostly importantly: NONE OF HALO 2 AND OWNWARDS WOULD'VE HAPPENED, AT ALL. If Chief didnt destroy the Halo, the game would simply end with everyone dying except the flood, which would still die later due to starvation. How the fuck can they simply say " we didnt know MC was important to the story" when he's the most important Spartan in the Halo's Lore. Such a dumb statement coming from people that signed a contract to work in something they dont even have a clue They're working with. Thank god Brian Reed got fired.
This is like Nintendo saying "We didn't think Link was relevant in Legend of Zelda, we figured he was just the vessel for the player" It's utterly ridiculous.
"We didn't realize that samus was considered to be a important character in the metriod series and we've never ever heard of fox mccloud" Nintendo if they hired people from 343 industries.
@@R3_dacted0 Thats the point. They aren't mutually exclusive! The Legendary Hero reincarnated through time is a vessel for the player yes but he is also a very well characterized important piece of the Zelda universe
Considering that Locke is a Gen 4 Spartan, who are UNSC volunteers who went through augmentations in a more ethical way.. and John-117 is a Gen 2 who were CHILDREN augmented and trained brutally from the age of 6 and are known to be the absolute gods of the Spartan Program... Locke wouldn't have a chance in hell in a fist fight.
Yes actually Locke would. I see people constantly underplaying the hell out of Locke and overplaying the hell out of John. John is a Spartan II, no doubt that his augments are better but he is far from the best Spartan II in existence let alone Spartan. Spartan IV augments may not be as powerful but Locke himself was an expert killer beforehand. Locke's skills along with his augments and armor wasn't gonna make him win, but he wasn't going to lose instantly. The Gen 2 armor only does so much for one so the boost it would give Locke would be greater than the one it gives John.
A grunt during the great schism, you must use air vents, weapons you can hold and skills to survive and escape high charity, a pack of brutes are notorious in your part of the ship with their recent patrols and high kill count, securing the sector. Escaping with them about won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible, yet.
I sorta pictured the Chief vs Locke fight as a situation where Masterchief just didn’t wan’t to hurt Locke so he waited for Locke to let his guard down so that the Chief could use Locke’s armor lock tool to take him out of the fight without heavy damage.
To the arrogant fuckwits mentioning W40k. That has NOTHING to do with Halo so SHUT THE FUCK UP! Halo, Star Wars, Star Trek and Mass Effect are all more enjoyable and better franchises then your EXTREMELY Overrated W40k.
Scrappy was actually pretty popular when he first came out, he actually saved the show, until they decided to ditch the old cast and make it the Scrappy Doo show. So Locke is actually worse than Scrappy Doo as there wasn't even a point where he was liked.
In universe, it should be impossible for a spartan 4 to beat a spartan 2 in a 1 on one combat. Spartan 2s were abducted as children and genetically and physically enhanced to a ridiculous degree. At the age of 13, they were as physically adept as olympic triathletes. Master chief himself once nearly killed a group of 4 ODSTs (essentially, navy seals on steroids) bear handed, at the age of 13. On top of that, they wear a suit that not only allows them to survive falls from orbit, but it increases their reaction speed to the point where they develop whats called "Spartan sense" where they perceive the things around them so slowly that they can see bullets fly through they air towards them and react accordingly. Spartan 4s on the other hand are volunteers, receiving fairly minimal enhancement, and receive far more affordable armor as they were intended to be widely used. Locke could not have one that fight if chief was bleeding out and Locke had a gun on him.
sorta right. but the spartan suit is connected by a neuro link the to spartans spinal cord. The suit and the spartan are then linked and the suit essentially moves for the spartan. the very instant the spartan thinks to move, the suit reacts with lightning speed to make that movement. Thats why if the neuro link fails the 1000 pound suit would crush them inside because its not being supported by the neuro link.
Fr4gmint202 No't quite, Spartan 2s skeleton is coated in near unbreakable material, to the point of falling from orbit being the a somewhat minor concern for Spartans. It would take more than the Armour's weight to break their bones.
Zach Ward The suit increases their reaction and the augmentation which used hyper conductive material to convey the electric pulses that tell muscles to contract which causes movement. But yeah.
It would be cool in like a Locke beating chiefs ass and him just taking it to the point where you get worried and just when you think hes had it he just grabs Locke fist or something and beats him instantly and was just messing with him.
13:36 “I signed on to fight some aliens, next thing i know master chief blows up the whole covenant armada and I’m stuck in the middle of a canyon fighting a couple of blue guys”- Dexter Grif episode 1 of red vs blue

And this Spartan Master Chief, weighing nearly 300lbs, who started training at 6, having body augmentations to the point where hes basically not even human anymore, can flip tanks, survive freefalls from orbit, and can/has slaughtered entire military races, gets beat up by some random new guy who used to be in the military.
Halo 5 was also the first game in the franchise without splitscreen coop. My brother and I had played every campaign together for every game, including Halos 1-4, ODST, and Reach. It was basically a family bonding tradition between us. Then comes Halo 5. Fan response to this was so aggressive that they basically promised that no Halo game will ever not have splitscreen again.

I can definitely agree with Karl about that fact that Master Chief is one of the most well known characters in gaming, nearly everyone knows who he is. Like I've barely have played Halo and don't know much about the story, but even I know who Chief is, and the type of character he is, that he is this kind of bad ass saving the universe. But apparently somehow... the people in charge of making Halo 5 didn't... Like how is it possible that your in an industry like Video Games where you are the ones developing it, don't know one of the most popular characters of all time in video games? It'd be like being a Movie Director and not knowing who someone like Morgan Freemen is....
TKK3nta The real reason is because he cut out the context of the comment. They were referencing the investment in his actual character, not his place in the story. They thought of him as more of a player-avatar, which explains why they wouldn’t put as much stake in how they treated his actual character. They obviously know he is a very popular icon.
They're just paid to do what they are told to do tbh unless it one of the big guys in the industry like the owner or something then that's much less of an excuse
The one thing that Halo 4 did well was round-off the relationship between 117 and Cortana. But that is the only thing. Retconning the Diadact to be a villain, and saying the Forerunners were at war with 'ancient humans' was such a dead-brained idea that I can't believe anyone who was at all familiar with the series came up with it.
I've played the entire campaign and it ended so badly that after 2 days I could recall basically nothing of it. You know a game is bad when you can complete it and the story doesn't stick in the slightest!

In Dark Souls 1 if you roll through the sludge at the bottom of Blighttown your poison level builds up faster **Edit** now that I've played all the souls games I've learned this applies in all of them. Ds2 has fairly noticeable increase in build up speed whereas in ds3 it only seems to get slightly faster

I think they thought Locke vs Chief would be a huge marketing boon and they were right. Unfortunately, it seemed like they just did not know how to put these two Spartans against each other in a context that actually makes sense. Funnily enough, I can think of at least a few storylines they could have used that would have: 1. Make Locke look badass 2. Make Chief also still look badass 3. Incorporate old vs new in a refreshing way unique to halo. 4. Not totally throw away pretty much all of Halo 4’s plot points Instead of having Cortana be revealed in the second mission of the game by FUCKING radio, keep her veiled and unknown. Chief, after experiencing this huge loss goes on a trek to see if he can bring Cortana back. He journeys to far away worlds looking for some kind of technology to bring her back. On these worlds he begins to accept that maybe he can’t bring her back but still holds on to this hope that he can. As he is doing this, strange events begin to occur on colonies the chief just visited. A lot of people begin to disappear by this unknown threat but it seems closely tied to Chief’s journey who ONI is following from a distance. They realize that whatever is happening must somehow be related to Chief and know they need to bring him in. They don’t know the extent of his involvement in these events, but they cant let him run around doing whatever he wants. Chief, on the other hand, learns of this forerunner technology called the domain and finds out that it could possibly revive Cortana. He becomes fixated on finding the domain and refuses to obey orders. So ONI calls on Locke who gets introduced through a somewhat similar mission to halo 5’s intro except the characters on Locke’s team actually get introduced in the game. Additionally, the mission they go before being tasked with finding Chief is one that ONI could not send any other team into because of how dangerous it is. You experience first hand the effectiveness of Locke and the Spartan 4’s through their new abilities and their easily dispatching the threat they were tasked to eliminate (Not Juul Mdama or at least give him the ability to actually fight back in a really cool boss fight or interactive cutscene). They are then tasked with finding Chief as the events become more and more catastrophic and frequent, yet always related to chiefs journey. Missions with Chief are different from those with Locke as they follow more traditional halo gameplay without sprint, Spartan abilities or any other new shiny toys all the Spartan 4’s get. Chief has to old fashion muscle his way through his missions, continually showing just how badass he is. Throughout Locke’s missions, he is retracing chiefs footsteps, with the Spartan abilities to add new depth to the similar set pieces Chief has already been through, yet changed by the events that are mysterious yet similar in nature to the composer. He frequently underestimates John, knowing his legend but always being somewhat skeptical. Not naively underestimating but believing chiefs age and loss of Cortana make him vulnerable. It all leads up to Locke and Chiefs first confrontation where Chief makes Locke look silly through utterly beating the shit out of Locke. Locke then realizes just how badass this guy is and as these events reverberate closer and closer to chiefs progress toward finding this domain, Locke and his team go all out in trying to get Chief to stand down. They believe he has something to do with this and yet know he is the hero of humanity. This leads to a final confrontation of sorts where Locke and Chief have a massive fight just before the place Chief believes is the location of the domain. As they are fighting, Cortana reveals herself. As the only AI based off an actual human, her death was not like a traditional AI’s. By sheer will, she tapped into the domain which is revealed to be a plane of existence beyond our own. She has essentially morphed into a goddess, taking control of both Chief and Locke’s armor and showing them a glimpse of her power. Cortana then abducts Chief and leaves Locke to fight his way out of an army of Prometheans and former Covenant that now worship Cortana. The game shifts to Locke trying to help save Chief. Shit goes tits-up real quick as AI’s began to defect to Cortana’s side as they believe they should be the ones to hold the mantle. They aren’t trying to outright kill all humans, rather, control them or turn them into constructs similar to AI’s which is what happened to all the missing people on those colonies. The UNSC realizes that it cannot trust their AI’s to not succumb to this influence and orders the disposing of all AI’s that can be corrupted. This leads to the remaining loyal AI’s turning against the humans as a new protocol emerges in them: self preservation installed by Cortana. They abandon their duties and defect in droves. Toward the end, Locke frees Chief from Cortana’s grasp and they must work together to bring her down. The game ends with the discovery of the guardians, who are super weapons designed to keep species from gaining too much power and thus threatening the mantle from the forerunners. TL;DR this concept is just one I thought of and I think would have really been cool. Throughout the games, AI’s have always been the incorruptible ally, something the player could always trust to be loyal. Now that is gone and a threat unlike any the covenant or the didact could ever bring now shows up with the ability to destroy everything without a need for a halo. (Of course a return to a halo to prevent Cortana activating it could be cool but that’s underdeveloped for me) Thanks for reading this! Hope it seems cool!
Speaking of the Worf Effect, I highly recommend watching "The Orville." It is written by Seth MacFarlane, and it's actually a really good sci-fi space exploration series. And it does an interesting take on the Worf Effect. There is a character named Alara who is the head of security for the Orville because her race, the Xalarans, are renowned for their immense strength. Spoilers ahead: In one episode, she has an arm wrestling match with the robotic Kalon Science engineer, Isaac. Apparently they are equal in strength to the Xalarans and Alara and Isaac have had a few bouts before. Isaac ends up snapping her arm, and as it turns out, Alara had actually gotten weaker. Turns out, Xalarans are from a planet with a gravity force so high that any other race has to wear a special suit so they don't get crushed by the weight, which is why Xalarans are so naturally strong. Alara has been gone from her home planet for so long that when she goes back, she has to us a wheel chair to move around to get readjusted to its gravity and regain her strength. In fact, the head pilot of the Orville did a small experiment where he threw an aluminum bottle into the planet's natural atmosphere where it immediately gets crushed and falls to the ground like a rock.
I took a minor in Film at university because it was fun and I hoped to one day be a writer for video games. One of my classes was 'Issues in New Media' which was codeword for a video game class. We read scholarly journals and books on video games and the gaming industry (yes, they exist now). One study was conducted by a team of psychologists in Europe about video game experience and enjoyment. After weeks of studies on random people playing games they discovered that "IDENTIFYING WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE GAME IS HOW YOU DERIVE THE MOST ENJOYMENT FROM A VIDEO GAME" and that the story was the most important aspect of connecting with the main character. And yet, not one video game company I contacted after graduation hires writers. Not one. Because nobody thinks the story is important. Idiots. So I went back to school to become a geologist.
mediocre gameplay with a good story is better than great gameplay with a mediocre story. story is everything, gameplay is just a part of it to get you from point a to b.
Ryan I disagree. I believe as long as you have a decent story and amazing gameplay, you have a good game. Take DOOM for example. Obviously, the story was not the main priority, the priority was the fast action, run-and-gun, gory gameplay. Though we can still agree that story can be a very important part of what makes a game good, the priority is gameplay. If you have shit gameplay but awesome story, it fails to be a game. It's just an interactive movie.
Doom looks like a great game and it looks like it intentionally doesnt care about story, just action packed levels. If it had an awesome story to back it up it would be 10x better. alot of people like interactive movies man, just look at the telltale games.
Ryan, I see your point but very much disagree as well. The Halo trilogy makes up some of the greatest FPS games ever made, and Bungie focused much more on gameplay than story. Their philosophy was that the game needs to feel fun within 30 seconds, and that it needs to still be fun after playing it a thousand times. They succeeded, and that's the reason millions of people have replayed the Halo campaigns countless times with the experience still feeling fresh. That level of replayability can't be achieved by focusing on the story over everything else. It's achieved through a combination of all elements like story, visuals, audio, and at the heart of it all is the feel of gameplay. Some would argue that the first playthrough's impressions are all that matter when weighing a game's quality, but if you end up playing a game hundreds of times afterwards, chances are the first playthrough felt amazing enough to get you to replay it all those times.
halo 5 doesn't exist, 343 just made a game out of their shitty fanfiction based off of fanfiction based on fanfiction by someone who's never player halo

whenever you play the game it shows a 0 next to the player population. however if you try to play a match you can normally get a game in under a minute.
The funniest part to me is that they tried to say the reason for shifting the focus to Locke is because Bungie did the same in Halo 2 with resounding results. I don't think they realized that Chief and Arbiter are A.) two completely different species and B.) Arbiter is essentially the Chief of the covenant. Then you have Locke, a nobody to everyone who has ever played Halo just suddenly pops into existence just for the purpose of attempting to bring in the legendary Master Chief like it's nothing. On top of that you have the incredibly misleading marketing behind Halo 5. I almost won't even care about Halo 6 when it's more likely than not going to be previewed at E3 because I've truly hated that they made Cortana into a rogue A.I. who will possibly be the antagonist of Halo 6 and will either be destroyed, or turned good again.
I will say that AI in the Halo universe amassing too much data and dying/go crazy has been part of the lore since the very first Halo novel. It would probably be better off ignored, but it is canonical.
When I first started playing Halo we didn't have fancy shmancy Xbox Live. We had co-op! Two controllers and a first generation Xbox for the whole family. And we had to SHARE the TV!

The point of Locke was to be an anti-Master Chief. Basically, he looked at everything MC stood for and focused on the sacrifice more than what came of it. This could've absolutely worked... if you played as Master Chief *AGAINST* Locke. It's almost a reflection of the current state of the United States, where radical groups focus on the bad parts of society and wish to tear it down and spit on its grave. Locke beating up Master Chief in that trailer was terrifying in a good way, because it's the young challenging the old, a classic tale. Only the tale always ends with the old beating the young through honor and experience. This could've been a good Halo game, but instead you played as Locke.
@@TalesStahl That is not equatable here's why. 1.) The English people weren't really that enthused to fight in the war effort against the Colonies. Kinda like we as America wasn't enthused about the Korean wars. 2.) The Colonies had a shit ton of help from the French and Spanish. 3.) Master Chief has always shown to be flexible and willing to change depending on the situation. Like in Halo 2 & 3/ODST.
@@TalesStahl But we're not talking about political war machines, we're talking about warriors one on one. Your argument would need to be that the older one lost his edge, but that's obviously not the case with Master Chief. He'd need to age a _lot_ more before you'd reasonably expect that to happen.
I stopped at 3 till this year when I went an finally bought an xbox one with the chief collection. I replayed the games from 1-3 then did 4 and 5. Yeah, even according to established cannon. Master chief (a spartan II) should have been able to absolutely obliterate lock (a spartan IV) with virtually no effort whatsoever.
Around the 3:30 mark, you mention that bungie handed off Halo to 343i in 2007. This is incorrect. 343i was founded around that time, but the series was still mainly developed and produced by Bungie. 343 basically acted as aids to Bungie managing smaller, less important functions of the franchise. Bungie left the series entirely a year or two after Halo Reach came out, only then truly putting 343 at the helms. 343i would first release the remake of Halo Combat Evolved, and their first game entirely developed by them would be Halo 4, which would be released in 2012.
Bungie didn't leave by choice, it was a contractual agreement and Microsoft doesn't know it yet but in doing that they killed their best and most profitable console exclusive franchise.
Blaine Smith if your saying Bungie really didn't want to leave Halo, then I disagree. They had been working on destiny since ODST, they were done with the series or at least wanted a break from it. So yes, their contract with Microsoft ended but the studio wanted to move on as well.

Locke is somehow worse, at least Raiden had a brilliant pay off to his story, Locke as far as I know has no goals or anything interesting in his storyline other than being a dog for Oni and possibly trying to eliminate the Chief, but that is never expanded upon thanks to "Evil" Cortana and the AI rebellion.
chief did beat locke in that fight... after locke cracked his visor chief woops him and puts the armor restraint locke was trying to put on him on locke...
Yes we know that chief won, but people are salty about how close the fight was. Chief should have demolished Lock, like they say in the video "we've seen how much of a baddass the chief is" but to have this new guy come in and pretty much hold his own throughout the fight is frustrating as hell to watch.
Joseph because chief didn’t want to fight, he was trying to ignore Locke and only started fighting when he did a move, after a few moves he wins, not necessarily bc luck but bc he is way stronger than him, it wasn’t a “close fight” chief was just trying to not fight
Honestly, i think they should have done more with Thel Vadam. Like I honestly believe people would enjoy having him as a more focus of a character than Locke. I actually appreciate Chief and the Arbiter the same. And I did enjoy this video, but one thing I disagree with was when he said that Chief single-handedly saved the world. He actually worked with the arbiter to do that. Oh and let's not forget Johnson.
Negative Zero maybe instead of whining people should deal with the fact of games evolving. Just a thought. It's a video game, created by companies. When the game was handed off, as was the story.
Well this is the same studio that hired people who specifically hated Halo for the development of Halo 4. And we all saw how the gameplay turned out there. Just a complete rip off of CoD multiplayer.
James Somogyi I was referring to Halo 4 not Halo 5. Halo 5 is a completely different game than Halo 4 was. Halo 4 had killstreaks pretty much, although it was more comparable to scorestreaks. Halo 4 had no power weapon spawns on maps. You called them in as "Ordinance". And on top of that Halo 4 had loadouts. The whole control scheme was tweaked to feel more like CoD. The only button that didn't change on the default control scheme was melee. And let's not get into the endless sprint debate that rages to this day.
Zachary Mumme 100% agree with you didn't realise you was talking about 4. I hated almost everything about that mutiplayer the single player wasn't great either but I thought the sp was at least better than 5s. Let's hope halo 6 is made with a more careful hand. Or just remaster halo reach that would be great.
I actually loved the faster paced halo 4 multiplayer compared to reach. Reach always felt weird to me, never got into it that much. Except that flood mode, that was damn fun, and firefights, wish they hadn't taken those out.
Zachary Mumme not true in cod you can carry your whole team, win three on one fights and decimate the mad with kill/score streaks while in halo 4 (and all other games prior) yes maybe you could carry your team but the maps aren't full of killstreaks and most three on one battles leave you dead on the ground with three sacks in your face. This in my opinion made halo a more team based shooter than cod
I don't play video games any more and have never played Halo but I recognize Master Chief as the main character from watching friends play. As a US Navy veteran, the rank of Master Chief (E-9) is a seldom attained and highly respected rank. I remember senior officers ignoring other officers to ask the Master Chief's opinion.
Noob2135 Just because Locke’s armor looks better makes Samus Aran, the female protagonist from Metroid, a “rip-off”? Even though Locke’s character was made in the 2000’s and Samus is known to be the first female of video games (1986)
When the new version of Halo Reach hit PCs a short while ago, I was pretty excited. I tried it out. And it is... fine. It's fine for PC players who never got to play Reach. But for me, I still keep the actual Reach installed on my Xbox and I'll just play that. With the cloud saves feature they added to the 360 near the end of it's lifespan, I still have my original game file. I just got a promotion to General grade 4 last night in fact. Of course, I only play Firefight now. But if I'm honest, I am just too old for multiplayer. And I don't mean that as a dismissive "games are for kids" kinda way. I mean I'm physically too old and my reaction times are no longer conducive to the quick action needed to play the game proficiently in a way I'm willing to accept. I won't be on a team if I know I'm gonna be a drag on the other players. If Halo: Infinite is fun, and if I get it, I'll only play Lone Wolves or whatever analog the game features.
Let's add everything from a dying series that peaks after its first month or two for player base meanwhile a modded halo 3 on pc had 10000 players before they shut down the links. Halo reach managed to have 10000 players for over 5 years and halo 4 died after the first month. It's a colossal failure on Microsofts part. Get rid of 343
I hate that Locke v Chief fight so much. I like to think that the Chief was holding back because he didn’t want to kill Locke and after he took a few dings he said, “Fuck it” and ended the fight. This isn’t true but it’s my only explanation for that terrible scene.
I can sympathize with this man so much. His pure contempt for Halo 5 is akin to my contempt for Metroid Other M. Every fiber of your being wants to simply say it didn't happen.
I would like to point out in the Locke vs Chief fight Chief wasn't trying until Locke broke his visor, he was basically dipping a pinkie toe in the water to see how well this guy fights and once his visor breaks he immediately perceives Locke as a threat
Don't get me wrong, it was a very awkward fight that wasn't engaging, but it kinda makes sense why Chief didn't put up a real fight. Chief understands Locke is a good guy just blindly following orders, going as far as severely restricting himself as to not kill Locke with ease.
An actual good example of the Worf effect is when Trevor from GTA 5 kills Johnny from GTA 4: The Lost and Damned. It showed how mentally unstable Trevor is and gives a little preview of how his rash decisions have major consequences. Johnny was only the main character in a spin off game of the last title, so he did not have a lot of build up unlike a character like Master Chief has.
Hell yeah man! I remember tripping the fuck out when Trevor is introduced into GTA 5. I enjoyed gay tony and lost & damned, i though johnny was a badass! Didn't Trevor change that!!!!
Maybe 343i thought they could disregard 117 because there was grave concern about H3:ODST not featuring him and it turned out fine, then they repeated it with the Reach-prequel and it was fine again. Still, why would you think replacing the main character of a franchise in the main story line of said franchise would work when it did in a bunch of side-stories? No, this was Brian Reid being a hack writer and now 343i need to be apologetic about the mess to save face.
Lieutenant Silver yes, however, both of the things those games had in common were that they did not directly feature the master chief at any point whatsoever. They are split off games, what i like to call “pet projects”. Halo 3 ODST was just some extra Halo 3 storyline, and Reach was a prequel. Not a direct continuation to the series. If they wanted to make a game about another team of spartans, namely “Spartan Locke” then that would be fine, as long as the chief wasnt involved.
+The CookieMeister -- Exactly. Spin-offs are ideal for this type of experimentation. Even Sega knows that. Sonic Boom, anyone? It's revealing that 343i would perform such risky open-heart surgery on their main franchise with _Halo 5 Guardians_ when Bungie's previous tryouts were kept subtle and separate: main character mostly absent, different story focus, low shield power, enhanced movement, team mechanics. If this stuff had been outsourced to a, say, _Halo 4: Marine Ops_ or Halo 4: ONI Black Files or something cool nobody would have complained about Agent Retcon. _But no, 343i knows best and you will like all these new, pointless nobodies and ground pounding and over-designed artstyle. @@ref4nej2 I've got a lore book on John and Halsey her self says that John was THE one she knew would be the best. With scientific research too
The Liar Behind You Then you should remember that it was also Halsey herself that said "He [John] is neither the smartest, nor the fastest, nor the strongest of the Spartans.
@@ref4nej2 yes, maybe at first, but now he is by far one of the all round smartest, strongest spartan
Zach Ward FUCKING THIS!!!!^^^
sorta right. but the spartan suit is connected by a neuro link the to spartans spinal cord. The suit and the spartan are then linked and the suit essentially moves for the spartan. the very instant the spartan thinks to move, the suit reacts with lightning speed to make that movement. Thats why if the neuro link fails the 1000 pound suit would crush them inside because its not being supported by the neuro link.
Fr4gmint202 I said that it was the suit that increased their reaction times
Fr4gmint202 No't quite, Spartan 2s skeleton is coated in near unbreakable material, to the point of falling from orbit being the a somewhat minor concern for Spartans. It would take more than the Armour's weight to break their bones.
Zach Ward The suit increases their reaction and the augmentation which used hyper conductive material to convey the electric pulses that tell muscles to contract which causes movement. But yeah.

Diversity hires.

I think they thought Locke vs Chief would be a huge marketing boon and they were right. Unfortunately, it seemed like they just did not know how to put these two Spartans against each other in a context that actually makes sense. Funnily enough, I can think of at least a few storylines they could have used that would have:
1. Make Locke look badass
2. Make Chief also still look badass
3. Incorporate old vs new in a refreshing way unique to halo.
4. Not totally throw away pretty much all of Halo 4’s plot points
Instead of having Cortana be revealed in the second mission of the game by FUCKING radio, keep her veiled and unknown.
(Of course a return to a halo to prevent Cortana activating it could be cool but that’s underdeveloped for me)
Thanks for reading this!

Spoilers ahead:
In one episode, she has an arm wrestling match with the robotic Kalon Science engineer, Isaac.
It can be the reason why people watch let's plays

Saying master chief isn't the main character of Halo is like saying doomguy isn't the main character of doom

That is not equatable here's why.
1.) The English people weren't really that enthused to fight in the war effort against the Colonies. Kinda like we as America wasn't enthused about the Korean wars.

3.) Master Chief has always shown to be flexible and willing to change depending on the situation. Like in Halo 2 & 3/ODST.

You messed up the time line. Bungie handed off the reigns after 2010 with the release of Halo Reach being bungie last halo game
So what? That is not the point of this video.
Devin Kupka 2009 to be exact is when bungie left :D
After 343 took over halo on number 4 halo went to complete shit including armor customization reach had the best armor
Devin Kupka well, la di freakin dah. Someone's gonna get laid in college...
So yes, their contract with Microsoft ended but the studio wanted to move on as well.
remember when Raiden (MGS2) was the most hated replacement character in videogames?
Locke is somehow worse, at least Raiden had a brilliant pay off to his story, Locke as far as I know has no goals or anything interesting in his storyline other than being a dog for Oni and possibly trying to eliminate the Chief, but that is never expanded upon thanks to "Evil" Cortana and the AI rebellion.
Eddman368 Raiden had a game about him that made him badass, Locke was shit all the way through his existence

He actually worked with the arbiter to do that. Oh and let's not forget Johnson.
343 isn't canon.
Negative Zero How does chiefs story end then?
He's still floating in space inside the Forward Unto Dawn.
Negative Zero so sad ending
Less sad than the crap 343 has done with Chief.
No Halo 4's MP is aids and the furthest from Halo we ever were.
Doesn't Spartan Locke just look like they ripped off Samus Aran and just tried to make a gender swapped version of her? lol

R they made Samus look like a rip off of Locke I mean his amour looks better be honest
Noob2135 that makes no sense whatsoever
NoOneImportant ok explain
Noob2135 Just because Locke’s armor looks better makes Samus Aran, the female protagonist from Metroid, a “rip-off”? Even though Locke’s character was made in the 2000’s and Samus is known to be the first female of video games (1986)
Imagine after Kingdom hearts 3 gets released they tell us that Sora was never the main character
If Halo: Infinite is fun, and if I get it, I'll only play Lone Wolves or whatever analog the game features.
i’m sorry to hear, i hope your “retirement” goes well lol o7
We are a month from 2020 and this is somehow just now being recommended, the day before the Master Chief Collection launches on PC with Halo Reach.
343: Okay folks, let's take this great series and add some call of duty, wait no, add more call of duty.
The Jam Man that actually makes sense
Suminternetboi Plays I’ve put too much thought into this.
+The Jam Man I'm with you man, the fight should have been far more lop sided in the Chiefs favour.
BULLY HUNTER_77 I know. That wasn’t 343s intent though. They wanted a character who could maybe beat the Chief and they didn’t do any research.
That is actually what I thought when the cutscenes happened and I will keep believing so because the contrary is just too out there.
Wait... You're saying Truth isn't the main character!?
I mean, he *is* the voice of the Covenant
Oh shit, I thought Miranda was the main character!
I thought Chips Dubbo was the main character!?
It ain't church?!
Im pretty sure its buck
I can sympathize with this man so much.
His pure contempt for Halo 5 is akin to my contempt for Metroid Other M.
Every fiber of your being wants to simply say it didn't happen.
I would like to point out in the Locke vs Chief fight Chief wasn't trying until Locke broke his visor, he was basically dipping a pinkie toe in the water to see how well this guy fights and once his visor breaks he immediately perceives Locke as a threat
as if master chief would take even a second to rip ANY and ALL threats a new one, troll on heretic.
And then proceeded to kick Locke's ass.
the fight looked like geriatrics going at it. fucking ridiculous choreography
Don't get me wrong, it was a very awkward fight that wasn't engaging, but it kinda makes sense why Chief didn't put up a real fight. Chief understands Locke is a good guy just blindly following orders, going as far as severely restricting himself as to not kill Locke with ease.
I actually remember playing against a “darkest dragoon” on halo 3 when I was a kid holy shit
They had Trevor kill Johnny because a good amount of people didn't like him
Oh, I didn’t even realize Johnny was an “important” character in GTA. That totally changes that scene.
Elijah Ramer Sorry 343
Chief at 14 took on 4 highly trained ODSTs, injuring them all and killing a couple of them but loses a fight against Locke...
He killed them because of his strength, not just his skill.
Anyone still play reach?
MarXus7779 yes actually
MarXus7779 yep
Yes
Yes. My gamertag is admirablyhumble :3
Stupid question
I also thought Gravemind was the main character. He was the big boy hero supreme #MonumentToAllYourSins
Nah, Chips Dubbo was the main character!
" I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence "
master chief literally survived a nuke in his hand you cant tell me he lost a fist-fight
halo 5 isnt cannon to me
Feelings don’t change what’s canon
Lt col brother shock trooper you got a point
Unfortunately, it is canon. Our blue little friend is now the enemy!
chris defreece then you’re an idiot
so Reach is a spin off? Wars? yall seem to love those
Maybe 343i thought they could disregard 117 because there was grave concern about H3:ODST not featuring him and it turned out fine, then they repeated it with the Reach-prequel and it was fine again.
This's our IP now and you fanbase's gatta play our abused shpouse w-whittha Oslo sicknesh or somfing._
just when I was looking for a fact fiend video to watch.
11:50 Don't forget the fact that the Spartan IV's (Locke and Co.) canonically aren't as powerful as the Spartan II's (Chief) due to how they're made.
13:38 "Curious... 'hyper-lethal.' There's only one other Spartan with that rating..."
Halo Theory!
After Halo 5, Master Chief was so angry about how Halo 5 went, he became DOOM Guy and went to hell to take out his rage on demons.
But Doom Guy is suppose to be Link :o.
...
@@PirateDion Well, the actual lineage of Doomguy is Grandpa Commander Keen, BJ Blaskowits, and then some time later doomguy
Ah I have fond memories of nights after high school playing custom games in halo 3 with like 10 of my friends
We used to play it at lunch in the science labs at school cos our teacher was awesome
I still believe that Chief was going really easy on his fellow Spartans.
Locke and his hardest hit barely cracked Chiefs visor, I'm certain Chief could have killed Locke if he'd wanted.
Also. I'm a playstation player who's never touched a Halo game. And even I know Master Chief is the main character and a complete badass.
