Wow that was epic! So glad y’all had the opportunity to take those pictures. Looked amazing, thanks again for sharing. Great job on the general maintenance Charles. Billy D
I agree with mike Hortin, add a fuel stop valve in each engine compartment so no one has to run to the other end of the boat to turn off the fuel. Easy install.
A great episode. Hopefully these suggestions might help: I'd agree that some more dive weights may help. You were floating up whenever you stopped finning. For the spreadsheet, as you add more work think about adding additional columns to sort tasks for a larger service or those that can easily be done at the same time. Also, a column for parts required can make it easier to prepare parts, oils etc earlier to reduce 'engine bay yoga' It's not uncommon to add valves, drains, start buttons etc to the engine bay to use during services. Again, this limits the need to go elsewhere or disturb other areas when servicing. All the best
We do something everyday that we go out maintenance always on going you guys do it well. I use a checklist in my head but do have a copy on the boat. Always learn something and love your videos so much
The maintenance helper is a very important job. Even though it seems like you're just a gofer the role is essential. The engine compartment looks very well taken care of. I would ad the tools required to your spreadsheet if you haven't already. 👍👍🥰
Holding your breath on your sofa relaxing and lowering your heart rate is a whole different thing to going underwater and having you body, organs, muscle, brain etc draining that Oxygen levels fast because you are swimming. I just did 2:15 minutes at my desk, I imagine in water that would be around 30 seconds:)))
Great episode would love to chat about the trials of working fulltime 9-5. My husband has that issue as well. We have moved from Georgetown heading North again ;-0
The scenes of beaches, blue water, diving, etc. are jealousy-inducing...but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't as interested in the maintenance lessons as well. Nice work!
Seems like our travel plans are not lining up. We are going to be in The Park next week and Nassau after that. S let me know if any of that lines up with your travels 🙌🏻
Great vid of daily up's and downs and requirements, really enjoy following your channel...Q.Saw you filled the coolant overflow bottle, do you check the coolant by opening the pressure cap when engine is cold ,as if the overflow bottle is empty then there is a low level in the coolant heat exchanger from the raw water ..
I'm no expert here, but what I've been told is to never check the coolant by opening the pressure cap. If the engine needs coolant, it will take it from the overflow bottle, and if it has extra, it will put it back. For lack of a more exact phrase. Always happy to learn how others do it though - if that's not your experience.
@@FolsomOceanViews I'm not an expert either ,if the engine manual say do this ,its best to do it . For warranty etc. But in your episode of checking the engine fluids the overflow bottle was empty ..thats caused by a leak into the raw water system or something worse,or the engine doesnt have enough coolant in it and keeps taking from the overflow bottle if the engine is cold and the overflow bottle is empty ,its ok to open the cap on the engine and fill it there ,replace the cap and then fill the overflow bottle till its full line indicator , Just like on a car ..then you know the engine has correct amount of coolant and overflow bottle is fuel if engine needs it.....if the over flow bottle then keeps empting out .you definitly have a leak into the raw water or hopefuly no where else more serious..i agree to never check the engine coolant on the cap if the engine is hot that could instantly lead to bad steam burns ..
just a tip, get yourself a few cans of corrosionX or WD40, keep a thin coat of that spray on your engines & all metal bits to prevent corrosion... every once in a while wipe your engines off with a microfiber cloth...rinse & repeat.....some silicone spray prolongs the life of your hatch seals, plastic & rubber stuff....some contact spray can help with corrosion of electrical connections.... salt & corrosion are a boats biggest enemies, better spray & wipe than pay & replace :) love your chanel & your courage to show your imperfections...thx for sharing
Imelda says that I can’t get into a space that small and that we need a bigger boat. It would be necessary to have a boat I exclaimed. We got close . Great vid as always. Thanks. D.
Charles, so wild you just said if someone wants to help with the 100 hr service. I was just thinking if you need help I’d hop a plane to meet you and help. Wild right? Reach out. I’m a mechanic wiz. And love the ocean. Great channel. And I deep dive.
When you clean the engine fuel filter, be very careful not yo over tighten the ring. It will easily Crack and break. Also, you shouldn't have to be adding coolant very often. ON my old Yanmar, I add it maybe once every other month. You might have a leak. Keep an eye on it.
Nice episode. I'm curious about your internet setup for staying connected as you work full-time from the Bahamas. Would like to see an episode on that! Cheers!
I know!! I was so frustrated 🤣 I had just added 3 more pounds (total of 5). Now that I have a proper weight belt (not one I made out of string) I am hoping that I will be able to figure out the weights. I’ll be sure to post an update on next attempt 🤟
HEY! Those pictures came out great. I was gonna suggest maybe exhale a little air to reduce buoyancy or maybe a ditch the wetsuit. But.....I'm not a free diver, I have a low tolerance for CO2. In contrast, I used to have a very high tolerance for C2H5OH. Really enjoy seeing y'all every week. Please be safe and keep uploading videos. Cheers. Carlos and Mandy in Bama
..... Well WoW! ... god forbid you have to get in the engine compartment in a hurry when there is a sea running, for sure not easy access, good you are agile .. is there a catch to keep it open so it does not nock you on the noodle when the boat is being tossed around ... just a thought .... good job on the mermaid pic, footage .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...
We actually had to hop down there on our VERY FIRST passage with some pretty big seas. And I had no clue what I was doing. Luckily it's a catamaran and has 2 engines, so instead of messing with it out in the open seas, we used the other engine to get into protected waters and then sorted it out. Turned out to just be a loose water pump belt, but I definitely agree about not wanting to do it again. As for a catch - it has a hydraulic lift that keeps it open. So at least I don't have to worry about that.
It depends where you are! They were very fun and useful in the Abaco Islands, and we will use them all the time in Nassau. But they have been packed away while we are in Exuma. Most of our time here is on beaches and dirt paths - bikes wouldn’t handle it well. For strictly traveling in the Bahamas, I don’t think they are necessary. But for us, they are our car when we are in the states, and Are very helpful.
She does - doesn't she? There was some hubbub recently because someone left 2 helm wheels on the piano as their interpretation of "art" and then someone else removed them. We happen to like her just the way she is 😀
Wow that was epic! So glad y’all had the opportunity to take those pictures. Looked amazing, thanks again for sharing. Great job on the general maintenance Charles.

Thanks so much!

So cool!! Glad you both made it down. What an adventure!!!
You two are so transparent and real. Great job!

That's a great idea! I will definitely do that. And the engine room could definitely be clearer - it's on the "not today" to do list...

It's so true! Charles has done over 3 minutes on the couch, he's lucky to get 60 seconds under water still. Baby steps 😀
Your channel just keeps getting better and better!
Glad you think so!
Loved the vid as always Jes - and was great to see the piano snap on Facebook. oh and happy anniversary to you both
Glad you liked it!!

Thanks Brian! We will be including more maintenance in the future: so I’m glad you liked it 🤟 but don’t worry, there will always be exploring🏝
You guys work together so well, showing what is needed to cruise. We are anchored in rock Sound, probably not meeting you this year.

So glad Jess posed with the mermaid! Yea😀
Thanks Joy! It was a bucket list item, for sure 🧜♀️😃
Concerto for Jess in C major? 🎹🎵🎶 Love watching you two! I enjoy several YT sailing couples and I'm glad I discovered y'all!👍

HAHAHA 😂 It is a tight fit, but for a 40' boat, I am told that its actually considered "spacious" 😅

Ha - that IS wild! Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it 😂
Well done congratulations ⛵🥂
Thanks 🙌🏻
Great episode guys ✌️ Love how you two work together. Males the dream 👍🏻 ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝 👙 🌞 ✨
We have had lots of practice! We met at work in 2008 when we were on the same project for 4 years 😃

We have a blog post! Hope that helps: www.folsomoceanviews.com/sailing-staying-connected-in-the-bahamas/
Looked like a lot of fun! Great video!!
Thanks so much!
Very well done, 👏. Informative and enjoyable
Thanks!! We struggled with this one, so that’s good to hear 🙌🤟✨
Maybe try adding some more weight to your belt ? You started floating up immediately when you sat on the bench ! ✌️💜🎸

Quick unrelated ?. Did you guys find bikes to be useful/worth the hassle in the Bahamas?
Planning our trip for Jan 23!

Great Stuff
Thanks so much!
Great video!
🙏
For Free Diving info of course!
I recommend you watch and follow Gert Leroy's channel. He is so smooth and educational.
The oil looks bad on the starboard engine. Probably where the coolant is going . Check it out before it is too late. Maybe a bad head gasket...
Thanks!! Will give it a proper look today 🙏
Welcome to sailing life ,I mean fix it daily life
It's so true 🤣
Where is that cave?
What dingy do you have?
Our dinghy came with the boat. It’s a 10’ walker bay with a 20 hp Yamaha
Considering how long the mermaid has been down there she looks excellent.
