Happy new year to you! I occasionally add things on I’ve already done to my lists of things to for a nice easy win. Also, thanks for the brush cleaning leitmotif.
I worked at a nuclear power station doing construction for many years. We had a similar process, it was called CRUPS. Circle (the item you are on), Read (make one slash through circle after having read), Understand, Perform, and once complete- Slash (creating an X over the circle). Every step in a written procedure would be required to have this.
Hi Dave, very nice! You've inspired me, now I need to get some field notes books. Thank you for another great film and happy new year! Always be knolling...I like it!
@@cinodrome I was wondering what those were, thanks! I don't like the Moleskin's with the more substantial covers and many more pages but haven't tried the other ones they have (like yours). I'll give them a try. Take care!
Field Notes is a dangerous game. It starts with a three pack of plain, then you’re into the quarterly editions, and special editions, and then you find yourself with enough to comfortably last you a decade. I speak from experience.
Something I neglected to talk about here, and it's arguably the most important bit, is that I start every day by creating the daily post-it. That's the part of the routine that makes the whole thing work. If a task like that doesn't happen every day, it eventually falls to the wayside.
What a busy week! Its like your house is punishing you for being gone for 6 months and working on another house!😅 these weekly videos are great! I can't wait to see the bar train, and other 2025 projects! Happy new year Dave! Have fun snowboarding!
Instant subscribe - because Keith Mansfield skeewiff is in my everyday playlist. I thought I was the only one who loves those oddball needle drop tracks.
Comment prize winner of the month. I didn’t know Skeewiff & Keith Mansfield AND their library is owned by APM who I license my music from. In the queue.
Ahhhh yes like myself and Mr Savage you love the 1st gen Sharpwriter #2 as well!!!! I was gonna leave a comment on it, before you mentioned what kind it was. 🤣
Oddly specific tool recommendation that will find it's way into unexpected places: hammerless hinge-pin tools. Super handy in any moment where something needs a whack and space is at a premium.
I love gizmos like my iPhone, but there’s an organizing itch that digital doesn’t seem to scratch like analog does. Ive been looking forward to the list making video for a while. Cheers!
There’s no shortage of data around the effectiveness of physical media - reading retention and physical books, etc. I’ve given lists on my phone a genuine try with no long term success.
Dude! Just got this recommended randomly today, it is *awesome*, it’s like watching the better version of my own channel and my own workshop in a parallel universe where I suddenly have time to do the things I’ve wanted to do a long time ago - subbed and getting ready to binge this weekend :)
@ Hahahaha, I thought the name sounded familiar but couldn’t for the life of me place it (yes, memory is overrated) … and then I googled … and it all makes sense now :D
Loving this video, having previously exchanged mesages about to do list methodology etc. Ive also arrived at the impression that a Folger can return home at any time, to find a window replaced with a door, a wall repapered with japanese photography or some other non confirmist creative high jinks, and it will be met with a smile and resigned sigh
Ding ding, all aboard the negroni express. Destination, Wobblyville, stopping at: Yes, I’ll have another, Watch This! Random EBay Purchase, Bad Decisions and Blackout.
My old nokia 1020 still works, so i record them as mp3s then put them in the calendar as the "reminder tune". When i have to do something, i "remind myself". Dunno if this works in Android, never bothered to find out.
So I just went and bought a pack of 3x3 graph paper post-it notes on Amazon. 😊. I already carry a Schaeffer bullet pen as part of my EDC and a Field Notes book. I'm going to attempt to use your daily note method.
"Aaa! Aa! Aaaa!" - so here we share the same reaction to the same happenstance, the non-threatening WTF is strong. Hoomans we are indeed. Dang it, multiple points of the video I'd like to respond to... A list perhaps!? 1. I'll start with the most perplexing and important: why add a post-it note to the filed notes page? If it is explained in the video it flew way way above my head... Re-watched the video: the month page stays, the daily post-its go in & out. Makes perfect sense. So simple! Do you keep the done days or trash them on the spot? 2. Flip the door around: that's the big thing, _refactor the code!_; I've redone a cupboard door lately last year to make it magnetic! and chalk-marker friendly! and... my accumulated experience is that proper re-doings indeed require _years_ to get to it; any time sooner is premature (because head-shaving things are not refactoring, they are _hotfixes_; yes software and realware do indeed share the same universe). 3. New small mitre saw for my small studio: Me cries in shoebox tears. If it needs two hands to move around _it's huge!_. Seems to me that's the boundary I can't hack around with putting stuff on walls etc. I'd like myself at least a proper drill press for starters and my limiting factor is indeed just and only space(*). (asterisk - yes, I could buy myself more space but that route has _other_ limiting factors; money does not solve every problem). I'll continue working around creatively while minimizing overall abuse 😊 4. High-level movie making: Chapeau bas... As much as I cling to my idea of "unedited raw", ha ha... "urban blair witch shite", I did start editing instead of `ffmpeg concat` so I have a feeling that my dislike of Hollywood move-magic will not stand in the face of "make nicer videos, yo". 5. All the other stuff. Really it took me much longer to write even this semi-good comment than to watch the video 1.5 times. Which is as it should be, because I'm viscerally sure it didn't take you ~13 minutes to produce it 🙂 Thanks Dave and please keep the inspiration flowing! 🙇♂
Spatial hard times. Desperate measures. I’ve had those speakers for about thirty years, by the way, and they’re absolute winners. They seem to handle the tripod mount just fine.
Love your videos Dave I watch just as much for the cinematography as the activity. I did though have to rewatch and pause on that sculpture of a pig, I thought it was a medieval torture rack with the pig remains on top initially. Got to love kids imaginations and interpretations. My son made a story of how milk is made, suffice to say that "milking the nibs" has been framed and taking pride of place on our wall. Had my wife in tears for weeks (laughter).
That makes me happy. I got SO many asks about brush cleaning last week (strangely, I thought) that I had to toss it in there. The back and forth with viewers is getting to be one of the best parts of this bizarre TH-cam journey.

Is that a SWAG portable bandsaw station for your Dewalt Dave? I have it on my to do list to buy, just wondering how you find it?
It’s just the standard issue Dewalt, but I’m horribly allergic to branding so I had to slap a little paint on it and remove the labeling.
