Possibly place a gasket between each section to allow for tightening of nuts. Maintains even back pressure on each section. Or not.

The slots for the square nuts in the movable jaw are too small for the square nuts sold in the United States for #10 threaded rod (3/16 inch). Square nuts (#10-24) bought at Home Depot in the USA are 9.5mm square, and the slots in Chris's model measure 7.85mm (as printed on an Ender 3). I ground the nut smaller on two sides until it fit in the slot, but stupidly did not grind down the third side, and once dropped into the slot, the nut doesn't go deep enough either. It's a tight fit, and I can't get the nut back out without destroying the jaw. Fortunately, reprinting the jaw isn't a huge deal - I think I still have enough filament on the spool to match color even.

redesign with bearing washers for gear sleeves so they can be predictable smoothly positioned

Can you tell me where you got the hand vice that slips into the clamped base at the end of the video from? I would dearly like to get one of those please. Thanks for the cool build video, very interesting to watch.

slots cut in the end of the rod with either a file or dremal and tighten or hold with a slot screwdriver

I have several issues with the design:
    1) threaded rods in pushrod-configuration. Those will buckle very easily, particularly if they're not terribly straight to begin with
    2) the two inner (I suppose, reversing) gears run on the naked threads of the bolt. Those will wear out in no time. Also, the threaded rods are spinning naked in their seats, which also no es bueno.
    3) The connection between the threaded rods and the driving gear does not inspire confidence. Especially since it's load-bearing in the axial direction. Also, there is apparently no axial bearing for the rods to push against, I suppose all you get is the gear rubbing on the plate. Something's gonna push through pretty soon
    4) I don't think that the dovetail-construction of the sliding interface between the jaw and the frame is ideal for purpose when made of plastic. It may bind under load.
I'm aware that this is a plastic part and not an industrial grade vice, but a design optimised for 3D-printing and softer, easier-wearing materials could make it surprisingly capable and able to punch way above it's weight.
On the whole, nice work :)

Its been a year where is your better design?

    • @horrovac

@@alw1981 This is not a competition. Critiquing does not necessarily mean that you are able to do better, or that you think so. I'm aware that this is the internet and you feel compelled to be a dick, but a constructive critique is not a "diss" and does not require an answer in kind. If you had bothered, you might have noticed that everything I consider a flaw in design also has an explanation *why* I think it is a flaw. The intent is clearly to help this person improve their design, not to put them down. If that had been my intention, I WOULD have designed a better one and called this person a fool. Which I didn't. I even compliment them on their nice work.
You know when people talk about how terrible an environment the internet and social media are? They're talking about you. Think about that.

@@horrovac The issue messages left in a comment section is it is impossible to accurately convey tone. What you meant as a critique, I read as an attach on most of his design that he likely spent many hours designing then offered for free.

@@alw1981 My "tone", whether accurately conveyed or not, has nothing to do with what I am saying. If you wanted to pick a fight, you'd have done much better to find flaws in my critique and have a strong case proving that I'm wrong. I don't care much about what people think of me (and your reaction to my post explains why), I care more about being correct and fair.
Before attacking someone back, make sure they've really attacked you or someone you wish to protect.

Make an optional T-handle that can be attached to the existing handle for easier use and tightening.

I think I'm just going to have to give up on this. It looks great, but the supports that are needed for the dovetails are a pain, and generally all the tolerances are just too tight for me.
