Just got on to this and thought i need to comment. I'm a scouser and this socialist, Marxist attitude is very pervasive in the city, harking back to the 1911 general strike and the 1980s managed decline my Thatcher. The city was bled dry and on top of Hillsborough when we were blamed for the disaster the rest of the country had a very negative view of Liverpool and everyone had a very negative view of Scousers, parroting the boys from the black stuff. This isnt the case these days but the anger and the scars from that period still remain. While not very articulate this is the reason this man has a chip on his shoulder. Personally I support England and try to look at the bigger picture and am proud of our nation in many different aspects. These days I see Marxism has taken root in the city especially in education as woke ideologies are being pushed in the classroom, trying to indoctrinate future generations. but this all stems from the policy of managed decline that were were subjected to which pushed people to socialism. If it wasnt for New Labours investment in the city and the granting of free education during the 90s and early 2000's a whole generation, my generation would have been lost and the city would be a complete disaster. Now we have bounced back and were voted capital of culture and we have new investment and the city center is doing well, but this man is obviously from a generation of young people who were bitterly affected and even he doesnt know exactly why he has the hatred he does, but its plain to see. A lot of the scousers in Liverpool do in fact have national pride, it is coming back but its along road. It doesnt help going on national radio and spouting off though. First off, at no point in its history was Liverpool majority Irish or from an immigrant background. But there was a lot of Irish migration to the city during the Famines. I think today about 25% of the population can trace their ancestry back to Ireland. Secondly, I think the actual apathy towards England from some sectors of the community comes from the 70s and 80s when Thatcher placed the city into, so-called, 'managed decline'. Liverpool was left to itself and crime and unemployment rose dramatically.

I’m from Liverpool and if the city in the state that it is in now was to vote for independence then it would collapse. The guy was right in saying that we are of more immigrant decent, being a predominantly Welsh and Irish city, that’s were the scouse dialect derived from I believe, a merge of Irish and Welsh. The city does have a separate culture and history being the first world city and once the gateway to the new world. And it is dubbed the unofficial capital of North Wales, not Ireland. Liverpool, like London, deserves greater devolutionary powers to grow its own power and redevelop itself as a city, but all out independence is suicide. Oh and in reference to “what country are you in?” I think that is a stupid question, the now Republic of Ireland was once part of the United Kingdom but fought for and achieved independence. Same as Scotland who shares a border with England. London is in England yet has its own government and its own control, whether or not it is the capital, all major cities should have a right to self governance to since only they are fully aware of their own problems and needs that Westminster are oblivious of.

Just got on to this and thought i need to comment. I'm a scouser and this socialist, Marxist attitude is very pervasive in the city, harking back to the 1911 general strike and the 1980s managed decline my Thatcher. The city was bled dry and on top of Hillsborough when we were blamed for the disaster the rest of the country had a very negative view of Liverpool and everyone had a very negative view of Scousers, parroting the boys from the black stuff. This isnt the case these days but the anger and the scars from that period still remain. While not very articulate this is the reason this man has a chip on his shoulder. Personally I support England and try to look at the bigger picture and am proud of our nation in many different aspects. These days I see Marxism has taken root in the city especially in education as woke ideologies are being pushed in the classroom, trying to indoctrinate future generations. but this all stems from the policy of managed decline that were were subjected to which pushed people to socialism. If it wasnt for New Labours investment in the city and the granting of free education during the 90s and early 2000's a whole generation, my generation would have been lost and the city would be a complete disaster. Now we have bounced back and were voted capital of culture and we have new investment and the city center is doing well, but this man is obviously from a generation of young people who were bitterly affected and even he doesnt know exactly why he has the hatred he does, but its plain to see. A lot of the scousers in Liverpool do in fact have national pride, it is coming back but its along road. It doesnt help going on national radio and spouting off though. Marxism isnt the answer though and it worries me how pervasive it has become because of our past and how the radical left are latching on to it in order to ride the wave of socialist sympathies in the city. We need to engage with the rest of the country now, stop booing the national anthem, be proud of our team and institutions to stop this woke nonsense from becoming the norm.

First off, at no point in its history was Liverpool majority Irish or from an immigrant background. But there was a lot of Irish migration to the city during the Famines. I think today about 25% of the population can trace their ancestry back to Ireland. Secondly, I think the actual apathy towards England from some sectors of the community comes from the 70s and 80s when Thatcher placed the city into, so-called, 'managed decline'. Liverpool was left to itself and crime and unemployment rose dramatically.

I’m from Liverpool and if the city in the state that it is in now was to vote for independence then it would collapse. The guy was right in saying that we are of more immigrant decent, being a predominantly Welsh and Irish city, that’s were the scouse dialect derived from I believe, a merge of Irish and Welsh. The city does have a separate culture and history being the first world city and once the gateway to the new world. And it is dubbed the unofficial capital of North Wales, not Ireland. Liverpool, like London, deserves greater devolutionary powers to grow its own power and redevelop itself as a city, but all out independence is suicide.
Oh and in reference to “what country are you in?” I think that is a stupid question, the now Republic of Ireland was once part of the United Kingdom but fought for and achieved independence. Same as Scotland who shares a border with England. London is in England yet has its own government and its own control, whether or not it is the capital, all major cities should have a right to self governance to since only they are fully aware of their own problems and needs that Westminster are oblivious of.

What I can't stand is the hypocrites like former snooker player and Everton supporter John Parrott, he was on a channel 5 sports programme years ago called "Under the Moon" and was asked about the England football team and said "I don't give a hoot about them". He was happy to pick up cheques playing for England in the world team snooker tournament though. Liverpool is such a great city and full of great people. If I visit England I would go to Liverpool and maybe Manchester.
