I started my own cleaning business about 6 years ago. I provide all my own tools, & products because I'm very picky about what I use. Unless the customer wants something specific used. I am also the best priced cleaning lady around. I have OCD, & love to clean. Cleaning for other people has helped manage my OCD so much. I thoroughly enjoy cleaning my clients homes. I only do thorough cleanings, cause my compulsive nature needs to complete the task perfectly. Most of my clients are regularly scheduled houses, so it mostly ends up being up keep, not deep diving to be done. I make a good living doing this, but have no desire to rob people of their money when we're all struggling out there one way or another by this crazy world we're in. 💜 Much love from Philadelphia

Wow. I was reading your comment and thought you must be my cleaning twin. Lol. I am all of those things also. The only thing I ask for from the client is the use of their vacuum as I have found that I go through them fast esp when there are pets or kids and I also feel icky about it even if I super clean out the whole vacuum everytime. I just think that the vacuum that goes with the house and can stay at the house is best. Some clients are the same way. They don’t really want a vacuum used somewhere else coming into their home. Even when I tell them I always change the bag or clean the canister (whichever one I have with me) and always clean the suction/bristles etc out each time. It’s way easier and since I use all my own supplies unless the client wants their own used it’s so much easier to not have to lug a sweeper too. I always ask when I have a new client if they have a sweeper (with attachments!!!) that I can use and if that is okay. All of them have agreed but I’ve met with some ancient vacuums too. Lol. Esp with the bachelors I’ve cleaned for. They sometimes don’t even know how to use it so they don’t. Lol. Having OCD is hard. A lot of things are stressful and anxiety inducing for me but cleaning houses for people is something I enjoy doing (most of the time, I’m getting older and I run out of steam a little quicker than I used to) and I’m damn good at it. But like you said I am very through, I don’t half ass anything esp because I can’t leave anything not done and not done right. It takes me more time than what people think because of that. But do you want it clean? Well that takes time people! After the first couple deep cleans I can just be doing upkeep and that’s so much faster. I bust my ass though and they all know it. And that’s why I keep my new clients as a regular after that initial clean. They know they are being taken care of and not screwed over. I have become friends with them and their families and I feel proud of my work. They appreciate me more knowing I care. Sounds like you are the same. Keep up the badassery mama!

@@nickalicious76 I completely agree with you about the vacuum. That's the one thing I always ask new people, if they have a vacuum for me to use. I usually keep my powerful mini vac in my car, as well as my swiffers & a broom, just in case their tools are not going to cut it for me to clean correctly. I've had a couple older clients, usually with pets, that have some dank butt smell coming out of their vacuum. Even if I clean their vacuum, that smell still comes out while running it 🤢! I have also found it nasty when people have those old sponge mops that grow mold in them. I use my swiffers for an initial dry dirt, dust pick up. Then a quick wash. I then do the floors by hand so I can get every corner & all the floor trims clean. Then a quick once over with a wet mop followed by a dry mop buffing. People love my commitment to thoroughly cleaning their house, but it's really about when I'm all done I get to step back & look at the masterpiece I have left them with. It really is almost like a high to me 👍. Thank you for commenting, I'm so glad their are people out there like myself trying to give folks an awesome service without trying to just take their money for a half assed job done. Keep doing you, & keeping it real. 💜Much love to you from Philadelphia

I've been cleaning for over 20 years and it's much easier when you request the clients to provide everything. It's difficult enough on your back just cleaning the homes, let alone having to lug all the supplies in and out of your vehicle over and over again. It is even tiring when you're young, but the older you get and the longer you do that type of work, the worse it is on your body.

I supply everything, my house cleaner is amazing, she has my house keys and knows my dog, really trustworthy, also she lets me know when we are running out of something she needs, usually i do something heavy like fixing stuff on the house or organizing some mess when she comes around, she is so energetic that inspires me to match that energy and we chit chat while she is here. When she is done i prepare some coffee and pastries or sweets, i usually bake something cause she doesn't come so often nor eat sweets cause her husband is diabetic, she doesn't want to tempt him. And then we chit chat some more, sometimes i accompany her to the bus stop with my dog, and when she arrives her house she lets me know 💕 so she is more like a friend/aunty that helps me get my shit together lol

I always preferred to clean while listening to music (earbuds), doing a thorough job and going home. Cleaning houses is not an easy job, conversation is a hindrance imo.

Most people are good, but Be careful about giving keys , trust and friendship to someone when it’s so one sided. Anytime someone has full access to all parts of your living space, thoughts, schedule , etc and it’s not mutual, you have a significant blind spot. People have all kinds of motivations, resentments and other issues that are hard to imagine when you’re living so comfortably.
We thought of our maid as family, and hired her brothers for handyman jobs. It’s probable that a drug problem in that family made our house a target- the evidence is all circumstantial, nothing concrete enough to hold up in court, and moms in denial, so it’s been devastating.
I’d recommend cameras, to protect your property and everyone involved.

Or mold. Mold can be hidden in homes and spread into your home with the use of cleaning tools if not cleaned properly. Cleaning mold off can’t always be done if the item is porous and you have to use something that kills the mycotoxins for cleaning the tools. You don’t want a mold problem it’s very expensive to fix and very dangerous for your health.

I was looking for someone to come in and help clean my home using the products and tools I owned. This was because I was picky about the products I used and because I already owned all the cleaning tools. Let’s be honest, even if you don’t do your own cleaning, you probably have a vacuum and/or floor steamer, etc. I thought it would be a shame to just have those tools available and pay someone else to use theirs. It works perfectly because our helper leaves us with a huge bag of rags that we wash immediately when she leaves, then have them laundered and waiting for her when she comes back. She tells me what products I’m running low on, too, so I never have to worry about running out of anything for her. 💜

I’ve read firsthand accounts of “chain” cleaning crews who use the same dirty rags, towels, mops, etc. from one house to the other, day after day. Also, vacuums can spread all manner of pestilence.

No way I'm doing a $100 job for $14.00 .. may go back into cleaning.... the audacity, and lack of boundaries for some folks are non-existent anymore. House cleaning is my bread and butter between jobs. Most times, my cleaning jobs are for the elderly, which gradually transitions into private duty care.
The product I use the most is Fabuloso from the dollar store.
The purple one in particular. I love it!
At 1st, the scent can be over powering. So I pour about 2 "inches" of Fabuloso into a standard sized spray bottle and fill the rest with water so then it's not so strong. I love how it cleans just about anything! Counters, floors, painted wood, bathrooms, windows, mirrors, I add a few sprays to the laundry cycle, and I even use it each time I clean my shoes, rags, and vaccum. I also spray alcohol into my beater brush and canister of my vaccum (I love my Shark) to kill any possible bed bugs, fleas, etc. Fabuloso leaves a beautiful shine and the light lavender is my signature. Of course, I have a back up formula (windex or alcohol, 3 drops of dish soap, and water in a spray bottle) in case a client doesn't like the lavender scent. So far everyone I have now loves it.
Ppl look forward to me coming. Not only for the job I do, but for the clean, and relaxing scent I leave behind.

I’ve had my little cleaning business for 25 years. I always have my own equipment but sometimes a client wants a specific product which either they or I will provide. Went back to school for IT and medical transcription but I LOVE to clean. A lot of my clients are friends too as I’ve had them since I started. We go through stages of life together. Their kids are born, go to college, marriage then their own children.
I discovered later in my profession that I didn’t charge enough. Now I charge what I’m worth. I never felt I was worthy before but my clients praise me constantly and seeing how inflation is here I’ve raised my rates. Don’t be afraid to charge accordingly! Sometimes it does take experience and I have plenty of that now. Did learn a lot from my clients about cleaning too.

I like the idea of the customer supplying everything. Then it is truly a custom job.
I know men who do lawn care.for the WELL TO DO. They show up and get to work Everything they need is in THAT customer's garage/ shed.
It is a win-win whether it's property care or housekeeping. I do agree it DOES require a great amount of MUTUAL TRUST/ RESPECT/ HONESTY.
I'm 68. I cleaned for rich people in my college years(1970's). Usually took 2 hrs. They paid me a generous $20 whether it took longer or a shorter amount of time. No one looked down on me. Some fed me lunch. Some provided transportation as I didn't have a car. Some even stepped in and helped me if I was staying longer to help them get ready to entertain.
I've talked to women who work for Merry Maids. NEVER have heard anything pleasant about the company. And the RICH MEN'S wives are condescending and belittling. MERRY MAIDS is even a demeaning name for a company. At hotels a male housekeeper has the dignified named of being called a HOUSEMAN. Go figure!

I've been a housewife for 20 yrs, so cleaning is sort of my thing lol I love cleaning so much that I've even thought about cleaning other people's homes for money but as a cleaner that has used probably close to every cleaning product on the market, there are some huge differences in different products, if I do ever do it as a business, I would have to bring my own cleaning products before I'd trust just showing up & using some unknown random products. The only reason I wouldn't would be if the client happened to be allergic or something like that to certain cleaners/chemicals/ingredients etc.

@@64___ , exactly! I've been cleaning homes for over 20 years and that's one thing that took me too long to learn. One very good way of deciding how respectful future customers will be, is to have them supply everything and then see whether they ask you what you like to use to clean or whether they order you to use only their products. Like the commenters noted, unless allergies are involved, etc, you can usually decipher pretty well whether you'll like clients based on whether they care about what towels, mops, vacuums and cleaning supplies you as the cleaner like using the best and how willing they are to supply you with those. For me, so far, that has literally been one of the best ways to weed out the disagreeable clients.

I'll be happy to find one that cleans. I've hired so many who have no problem charging you as much as an accountant and leave the house unfinished (running off to another job) and whatever they "cleaned" is not thorough enough that you don't have to go over it again. What I wish I knew before hiring a cleaner is that:
    1. Many really don't know how to clean
    2. Some will rearrange your things to feign work
    3. Most cleaners only expect to maintain a tidy home and will upcharge you for the slightest bit of work, like windexing the windows.
    4. If I hire your professional service, I don't want to have to inspect your work and who has the time to wait on you to redo things that you'll just rush through anyway?
    5. If you have 5 bathrooms and only need them to clean 2 or have 4 bedrooms and only need them to dust and vacuum 1, they'll up charge you for "organizing" if they have to place clothes on hangers.
    6. When they come into your house and it's already well maintained, they won't use that time to clean things that don't get touched as often, instead, they'll lock themselves in an immaculate bathroom for an hour claiming they were cleaning the while time.
    7. If you're providing a subjective service like cleaning someone's home, you should be able to understand their needs. It's not the client's job to play pictionary yo communicate with you.
    8. Some cleaners can be super rude and their fingers along surfaces of your home when you're hiring them so you think they'll be thorough, but then you see what they actually touched and it's neither thorough nor clean.
    9. They'll use the same rag to clean everything and dust your wood without actually cleaning it, just re-situate the dust.
    My pressure is up...

I always tell them before I even commit that the first clean is always the longest. Always. I clean everything. And if I have to move a bunch of stuff to be able to clean things that takes a lot of my time too. I mean you have to move every appliance to clean the things under them. And you don’t put back a dirty appliance on a clean countertop. Every single thing gets throughly cleaned. I can’t not do that. Same. The vacuum that goes with the house stays with the house. And it’s so much harder to have to lug it around along with all my other supplies. Every client I’ve had is completely in agreement with that. Most don’t want a vacuum being brought in unless they don’t have one. Which of course I always know before hand as I have a checklist to go over with them. 25-30 an hour is right but man they don’t understand that after we pay for all of our supplies. Clean our rags and such. Drive and use gas and our pure hard work cost a lot. Therefore we barely make much at all. But most of my clients have been older people that can’t do it anymore and I would never be able to overcharge anyone. I’m honest. Hard working and kind. That is worth a lot in my eyes. And I have some great friends because of how I am towards my clients. You get to know your client pretty well when you are the cleaning lady. It’s impossible not to. You see things. And people kinda forget you are there in another room and just say whatever. Makes me laugh and it doesn’t bother me one bit. Keeps things interesting. :). This particular example shouldn’t change the pricing.

I'm a professional housekeeper for a large house. My boss supplies EVERYTHING. I am paid handsomely for my time. There's a difference between a standatd cleaner and one that knows about antiques and precious items. Definitely difference between cleaners.

  • @song8777
    @song8777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't change my price. Cleaning supplies don't cost me much, at all. If I did charge them extra for me using my supplies instead of theirs, it'd probably be a dollar's worth. I carry my supplies in, in my little basket and if the job needs a broom and dust pan or whatever, I carry them in, too. Most clients don't want me using a "community" vacuum. Its totally not true "they're all different pricing."

I was one that didn’t provide anything for most of my houses. Certain people were just so picky or had things that required very specific tools/cleaning products. It made life so much easier

    • @KarenLeos91
      @KarenLeos91 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

And it lessened the possibility of me messing something up or them just not liking something. With less income houses the people were nicer and less picky, but higher income houses…ohhh buddy, they wanted something done specifically. No if anda or buts

Due to our extreme allergies, we cannot share tools, rags, vacuums with households that have pets. Being said, because I asked my housekeepers to use unfamiliar tools and liquids, I paid them as though they brought their own equipment and liquids. I felt like that was the best practice as it took extra time to get used to our products.

Should we ask cleaners who bring nothing if there are tools or cleaners they prefer? Such as that fancy duster cleaner in the beginning. Or do we just give what we have and they work with it?

As a customer, I want the person that has it all, and is experienced with knowing what works. It's well worth premium pricing. When you think about good intent to clean on your own and how often you really do, the cleaners and tools just laying around...the one that has everything is the value and probably will take less time and get the job done better.Love your channel.

Maybe use natural lemon and bicarbonate soda which works great.
Tip- to clean dirt microwave simply cut up a few lemons and put into a microwaveable dish with a small amount of water and microwave for 4 min or as long as it needs.
This cuts through grime and softens dried food stuck on, also rids smells leaving lemon fresh smell. Lemons are cheaper than chemicals. Even use lemon cut in half to clean cookers.

I wouldn’t want anyone to come with their own tools and stuff to my home. That’s really bad for allergic asthma. I almost ended up in ER bc they put their dirty duster next to my clean bedsheet and I had terrible reaction and ended up washing everything at 3am.

"Aaannnd rags"... 🤣 oh this made me laugh! I've had a cleaning business for about 6 years now and I FEEL this. What people don't think about is the actual laundering process of the cleaning rags (I only use microfiber cloth). I literally have a washing machine solely dedicated to this purpose alone because who wants to wash chemical laden rags followed by baby clothes? No thanks. First, they were used to clean so I ALWAYS hand rinse any that look to be a bit more dirty than the others and/or throw away any that are just too dirty or gross me out. Next, I will run a SUPER HOT "rinse and spin cycle" to remove as much dirt, chemicals, etc out as possible at least once but sometimes twice (and I ALWAYS add a laundry sanitizer during this step- laundry sanitizer runs all through my laundering cycle lol). THEN run a SUPER HOT "extra heavy-duty" cycle with pre-soak and extra rinse option- with a HEALTHY does of stain removers/boosters and laundry sanitizers. It's a whole thing.
Speaking for myself here.. however, I would HOPE that if you are a responsible, respectable, HYGENIC business owner/ cleaner, you would also take all these steps.
