When you first wake up, don't move, you will remember your dreams easier. Lay down for 5 minutes and think about your dream, retrace your steps in the dream. After the 5 minutes is up you'll remember quite a large portion of the recent dream and you wont forget it by the time you're done eating your cereal.

***** So if you do that you turn your faint memory of a dream to a more solid memory by essentially making a memory of a memory.

Ezichim99 N usually when you are having nightmares you are In R.E.M state and it's followed up by you waking up, same can be aplide to dreams if you wake up 5min earlier that usual it's possible to remember dreams to the last detail.

    • @alveolate
      @alveolate 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

Ezichim99 N by the very virtue of the fact that you actually call them nightmares as opposed to some generic forgotten dream, means you clearly already remembered them. you could very well be having even more horrible nightmares every night, but you simply didn't wake up and none of it was ever remembered.

I've found that as I get older, it becomes significantly harder to remember my dreams. Also, I notice that my nightmares are ALWAYS in the middle of the night (I only have around 4 or less nightmares a year), and my weird or good dreams are always right before I wake up for the day. Even if I am witnessing horrifying things in a dream right before I wake up to go on with my day, I simply won't care or be scared of them. Just thought this info would be interesting to mention.

There was a period of about two years in my early twenties when I was under heavy stress. Most of my dreams were about things going on in my life at the time. Not only did I remember the dreams in detail, I remembered them so well I had difficulty separating the dreams from reality. I would dream that I had done something, and then later I was sure I had actually done it, or that someone had said something and I later was sure they had actually said it --- I distinctly remembered it!, which only served to increase the stress. I thought I was going crazy, or that everyone else was out to drive me crazy. Take my word for it, you don't really want to remember dreams!

No, deja vue would be if things I dreamt seemed to come true. My problem was that I would go along thinking I had called a person and got their approval on a particular issue, when actually I had merely dreamed that I had called the person. That kind of thing, over and over. People would deny conversations I clearly remembered having had with them. But those conversations had happened in dreams, not in reality. I couldn't tell the difference between real events and dream events.

I have one dream that I have remembered for years and will never forget. Mostly because it scared the living shit out of me. An hour after I woke up, I was distraught and couldn't think straight because of how vivid and long the dream seemed to be.
The dream occurred on Christmas Eve 2010.
It started off with me walking into a gloomy house. There were police investigating this girl laying on her couch. Her parents called them because she was very ill and acting zombie-like. I took a look at her, and boy, were they right. Her skin was a pale blue color along with being very dry. The iris of her eyes were gray. She just laid there, groaning. I was scared but fascinated. I stared at her for a bit. Bad idea. Last thing I remembered before I blacked out was her flailing her arms and screaming violently. She must have attacked me, but I didn't remember it happening.
I wake up in my room (this is still part of the dream) feeling confused. The atmosphere felt completely different than usual. Things even looked a little different. It felt like I had been sleeping for years. Turns out I was somewhat right. I stand up, look around to see if anyone is home. I don't see anyone right away. What I do see shocked me to the core. There were pictures of me that I don't remember being taken throughout my house. My irides were gray and my skin was pale blue. I rush to the calendar to see that the month was April 2012. I was stunned. Absolutely frozen.
"That girl must have bitten me or something..." I thought to myself, "There's no way I could have contracted this...this disease...whatever the hell it is...without being bitten in some way...What even happened to me?! Was I in a coma?!"
My family walks in the door to see that I am "back to normal" (what?).
"Derek!" Shouted my mother as she ran to hug me. "We're so glad you're back!"
"Back? Mom, what the fuck happened to me?! I don't remember a thing since Christmas!" I was on the verge of crying. My mom explained exactly what happened the night I visited the ill girl.
"You were attacked. She bit and scratched you all over. The disease she had was very contagious. You were lucky to be alive." She went on to explain what the disease does to you mentally and physically, "Along with the skin condition and eye pigment change, you had no memory. You were still conscious and could still function, but everything you did you immediately forgot."
    "So I was a zombie?"
"Not quite. You were alive and conscious, but the part of your brain that stores memories was essentially turned off. You could barely produce words, so it was hard to communicate with you since you had no clue what you were saying. For some reason, it significantly affected your health, too."
I didn't know what to think. I stood up to look at a picture of me with the disease one last time. I looked mindless in the photo. [THOUGHT BUBBLE] "I don't still look like this, do I? My family was happy that I'm back to normal. Also, my memory must have kicked back in, clearly, otherwise I wouldn't remember this. Maybe I should check how I look in the mirror."
I rush to the mirror to see my reflection. But before I could look, I wake up...
Real life. I remember shooting straight up in my bed. I sat there for a good 15 minutes just staring into nothing, trying to process what I had just dreamed. My brain felt like something had crawled inside of it to produce that dream. Reality didn't even feel like reality for the next hour. I remember taking a 10 minute shower, but it felt like only 30 seconds. Time was flying by. My mom asked why I looked so confused, so I told her about the dream. After that, reality started to slowly feel like reality again.
Thoughty2 may be right that most dreams are hard to remember. But, in some cases like mine, you could have a dream strong enough to slightly alter your perception of life.

Does anyone get really mundane dreams? Like, I specifically remember dreaming about plugging in my laptop behind my bed. After waking up, it took me a good 10 minutes before I remembered I don't have a plug socket behind my bed! The interesting thing was a moment that stuck in my head from the day before: I plugged something into an extension lead and it gave a spark.

Hey guys, just letting you know for those who can't remember their dreams, start a dream journal.
I used to remember a dream every 2-3 months, but after starting to write them in dream journal, I started remembering a dream every 1-2 weeks, and now I remember my dreams daily! :D
This is a long process, but definitely worth it!!!

I have dreams sometimes that are so vivid I have never forgotten them. Most nights though, I wake up with the sensation I dreamed, but don't remember them. Other times, I have vivid dreams, remember them for a short period, then the details blur, and finally it's forgotten.
I think there is more going on that simply playing through daily events. When I was younger, I do remember vividly dreaming of places I had never been to. Later on, I would visit these places that were still fresh in memory and it was beyond strange. Get out of the car, walk over to a door and know what was behind it before it opened. It was not Déjà vu, since I have experienced that before. To this day it's a strange aspect that many doctors I have talked to can not explain. Not saying 3rd eye or pseudo science phenomenon, but definitely something that needs more investigation.

Everyday I set my alarm two hours before I need to wake up because I always subconsciously push my snooze button while I'm basically asleep so often. I do so because I want to keep dreaming. Especially if I am having such a good dream that every time my alarm goes off, my mind and body push snooze without me realizing it and ill jump straight back into the same dream over and over every ten mins... It becomes so intense that ill sometimes wake up in a frantic and look at my clock for a sec to make sure I have not overslept and I feel like it had been asleep for hours when, again... it had only been ten mins.

What ive learned about dreams so far myself:
When dreaming, it is said that certain characteristics will resemble altercations that happened in your day to day life, what the concious mind did not resolve in the day the brain can do it at nite, so i hear.
There IS a theory that you CAN remember your dreams, the theory holds that if you say have a coffee every single morning you wake up, tell yourself over and over and over that as soon as the coffee hits ur lips and you drink you will remember all, in theory it works for most ppl, try it!!
ALSO you can control your dreams, in which case you could quite possibly make yourself remember them as well, dont tell me you didnt have a dream where you made yourself fly, in which time you knew full well you cant fly but in your dream you made yourself do so...i have done this before myself..
This is like a dream control, having a key to help you realize its a dream may help, but trying to make yourself remember that when you see the impossible happen/you force yourself to keep half-dreaming as i call it, in which you can manipulate the entirety of the dream itself, the scenery, the plotline, MAKE yourself fly etc, its all possible.
In all honesty tho, it is all just speculation until science itself proves everything, but in the meantime most of what i said above has worked for others and id suggest trying it out...trust me itll be a tonne of fun!!

I have recurring dreams and go to places that are always the same. As if that place actually exists or existed. I could even draw a map and recognise roads and paths. I used to have sleep paralysis at times when i was younger. Those are scary.

We may not remember dreams consciously but every dream is stored in our subconscious in detail. Re-occurring dreams can build up new events inflating the dream over time into a very vivid nightmare or a heck of an adventure. The brain can store every tiny detail of your life. Even an odor or a few notes of a song can trigger the subconscious into a new response.

And to answer your question from a week ago, it is 4:19am central time when I went to sleep yesterday and I woke up at 7:19am from a dream within a dream within a dream where my life force was being drained from an unknown source and I awoke twice to realize I was still in a dream, thinking that i evaded this unknown force only to be a victim of it again until I actually awakened wondering if I was to repeat the same fate. Those are the only dreams I have that I have no control over which alot of times precognitive dreams come into play. There were various events in the past that I had dreams about and seen it come to be, the first event being when I was a kid and having a dream about a 747 jet crashing and shortly after it happening to me telling numbers in a dream and the person listening and playing those numbers in the lottery win the lottery.

my one was particularly unpleasent because i feel pain in my dreams but that sounds freaky as shit. maybe you had seen the episode before, and when your brain heard the sound it subconciously formed the image in your head? idk about these things really but i think that even though you are usually in your current environment that you are actually sleeping in when you have sleep paralysis most of the time what you see is made up in your head, apart from when REM sleep is straining your eyelids so they partially open- this could be why. i would appreciate anybodys input who has a sound understanding of what is happening here. oh god, im going to be on the internet all night now. great- better get my catheter

And the subjects tested on said they clearly felt the things you guys did, seen aliens even and alot of their stories existed in the same patters as the ppl clamining to have sleep paralysis alien contact/abductions scenarios...
Still unclear if those abductions were not real due to this paralysis stuff but this god helmet thing works, just thougth u guys would like to know that tidbit

I may be wrong, but I believe the reason we need sleep is because of how our muscles work, and how they need regular rest, and sleep is just a long period of rest. Also, I believe that dreams, which you can normally only have when you are asleep, prepare you for real-life events that may change your life. For instance, many people dream of getting attacked in some way that probably will never happen in real life, just so you can prepare for a scenario in your waking world that's similar. Also, dreams can aid ideas and discoveries. There were quite a few inventions that were thought up in dreams. Also, terrifying nightmares can help to make you less scared of real-life terrifying events. You'll probably never see Jeff peeking in your window like you do in dreams, but if you have the most terrifying heart attack-triggering moments in your sleep when it won't affect you so much, other things will be less terrifying when they would affect you a lot.
That is all I have to say.

Humans are multidimensional beings, so I feel we need to exist as such. That's why I feel sleep is needed, if you stay in one realm too long it starts to become unhealthy for your being. I feel sleep is a transition of our soul into the astral realm. If you've ever tried to look in a mirror while dreaming, it's difficult to make out a reflection, and see if you look the same, probably cuz you're not your physical body's face. It's a seemingly limitless realm but contains information of the realm below it, physical reality. Perhaps everything you saw that day, and maybe things you thought of that was related can all get mixed together for that nights dream, and that's why they're so weird. I feel it's also difficult to be aware of your being in more than one realm at a time, which is why it is so difficult to remember your dream, as also it is rather difficult to remember stuff from the physical realm while you are dreaming. Yet you still get a glimpse of each side when you're in the other. You can remember some dreams in reality, and some dreams you'll remember to do some stuff from reality.

  • @Ram0nArgila

I can remember my dreams, when I want to do so. If a dream was dull or un-engaging, I let them go and they vanish. Otherwise I relish revisiting the dream and it stays. I've been doing that for years. At times I realize I am dreaming while I dream and just enjoy the ride, other times I actively shape the dream.

  • @YCCCm7
    @YCCCm7 9 ปีที่แล้ว

I definitely would believe that dreams are a means of compiling information from the day. I dunno if anyone else has ever been insanely tired and lied down, just to get a brief glimpse of the visual processing that happens before you fall asleep, and by chance, remember it later.
For me, it's always started with a random thought or two that pops into my head, the shirt some guy was wearing on a TV show today, let's say, it zooms in on his pocket, then his button, barrage of rainbow colored specs flaring over the vague and barely visible image the whole time. Button turns into a blank circle, a circle to a soccer ball, soccer ball shifts to a still shot of a player, zoom in on extremity, extremity changes into something it vaguely represents in shape, let's say a leg vs a closed safety pin, and at this point the eye movements kick in and you pass out seconds later.
Random example in this case, but not too far off from what it looks like. It's just so random, some of it related to daily bits and conscious thoughts (generally the beginning the most) and it just seems to be networking similarities and odd things past that.

Few things I like to say.
Thank you for going over all this. It's interesting to hear and see some new stuff on it.
Dreams can have meaning to them. I have looked up certain thing I have seen and it's surprisingly accurate.
I myself have lucid dreams at times. Most of the time having only 3 of the five basic senses. (Sight, hearing, and touch. Very rarely taste.) Most are black and white with color in certain areas/things. Oh and I have a sense of there is something to be feared or danger sometimes. Which when I do remember them. There clear as day.
A good explain of that sense of fear I have is this. I for some reason was walking around somewhere and went into a basement? Anyhow. I seen this door that was kind of hidden. I felt a great evil from it. But yet I went and opened it. The room was covered in blood and had an alter of some kind. (I'm not the religious type so I don't know.) But the over whelming evil scared me even and I wake up.
There is of course more I remember. But this one of them. (Man do I miss being a dragon god.)

I beg to differ. I have precognitive dreams all the time. I could remember dreams and events that took place when I was younger, as far back as two years old, and recall them as if it was yesterday. That reminds me of a video of yours I saw discussing the fact that people in their younger years having fear of heights and loud noises as an evolutionary trait, a survival tactic. I could recall both instances where i had recurring dreams of loud noises and heights as early as one year old and progressed into having lucid dreaming. just about every night I go to sleep, I could not only recall my dreams, but control them as well. Just something to think about, maybe a future post js.

Somewhat of a crazy experience but I'm curious if anyone had experienced it, let alone explain why it happened. I was having a dream and then I woke up, normal right? Now here's the thing, when I woke up, in my right eye I saw reality, and in my left eye I saw my dream, and I even interacted with my dream in my left eye, it was quite crazy. After blinking a few times (about 5 seconds) my left eye came to reality and left the dream, anybody experience this or can explain it? Thanks.

I have a theory.Every dream i remember has some kind of stress attached to it (Don't know if it's due to my current life situation) and i think that causes the brain to think it's important and reminds you about it.It ranges from nightmares that 99% of the time cause stress to dreams where something stress inducing happens to me like last night i had a dream that my parents were taking me to court.Think about the dreams you can remember and see if they involve stress.

And I began to experiment with first remembering them better and while lucid dreaming trying to control what happened in them. I started to get good at it. But then I quit. Problem was, when I woke up I felt like I hadn't slept. It was too much of a trade off.

The thing is, i can remember a lot of my dreams. I had a surreal dream as a kid flying. It was one of the best feelings in the world. At least it was one of the first ones. I had several flying dreams besides that one. Each one feeling amazing even if i don't travel too much, it could just be circling around some area and it is just memorizing. Then i had some dreams where i would be wondering in a local area that i know, and it feels like the cool temperature in a spring/fall morning. If i have nightmares, the funny thing is, i am not scared. Those tend to be less surreal but it i let all my dreams play out. I 99% of the time wake up during the best parts and it is usually short lived but it is nice where i can have several dreams for a week or so before my deep sleep occurs or whatever and won't realize i had a dream for a who knows how long before i see another dream.

Well, another thing you have to take into consideration with dreams, is that when you are in R.E.M sleep, the pineal gland in your brain is producing a highly psychedelic substance called Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT. This may also explain why dreams occur. Not so much as why we cannot always remember them, however.

Hello Guys. My name is Christian,i am 26 and from Germany. I had a pretty bad Childhood,my dad was an Ex-Marine,who was stationed in Germany, and married my Mom. Sadly he was a hard Alkoholic. He died in front of me when i was 6,i was alone, and sat around his body for more then 10 hours till i managed to get up and leave the flat in shock. What i wanna tell you is,that it gave me Ptbs, and since then,i have lucid dreams,or clear dreams (klarträume in german) every single night. I can remember dreams from when i was 6 to now,i can choose what i dream, and how long. Psychologists saying that this was my way of handling the Situation back then. I was in sleep labours,i spoke to universitys etc. But sometimes,it gets pretty creepy. Sometimes,im stuck in my own dream, knowing that now i dont choose what happens,my brain will do. When its too fucked up,im trying to wake up,and this leads to "false wake ups" that means, that i think i woke up,but im dreaming that im awake. thos repeats for hours, and m gf has to wake me up,cause im sobbering sitting or lying half on my bed. Dreams can be beautifull,or more horryfieng than any other shit u will ever experience, trust me on that one. Goodbye, and nice Dreams,i love u thoughty 2. sorry for my bad english,it got a bit rusty.

And I remember running over to tell the family to whisper he is here because the shadowed man was starting to walk into our garden. and it was my cousin. Then my family ran inside the house and seemed to run out all the doors and windows. and at this point the house had changed so it was completely symmetrical. My family were floating round and making nice formations as they flew out 1 windows and went into the opposite one. Then my cousin ran away as he was scared. That's all I can remember from about 15 hours ago. Can't think what I will dream about tonight!!

I used to dream of entire symphonies after I frigged my arm up and couldn't play the piano for a few years, although I'm not very deft at notation so when I wake up in the middle of the night it's all but gone by the time I try to write it down. Paul McCartney said he wrote the song Yesterday after dreaming it.
Waking dreams are horrible though, just a lot of random stuff, and seeing detailed faces of people talking jibberish you've never met. It's really odd.

Great video. I write my dreams down as soon as I wake up if I can remember them so they're not lost forever

Long time since the last dream that I remembered. But last night I dreamt one of the best dreams I've ever had.
Long story short. Me and my friend was going to have a drink at home. And it ended up with a epic home party with our favorite band A7X.
