    I feel compelled to reply, only in light of previous ones. This landing could be considered a "hard landing" because the apparent lack of flare or sudden decrease in vertical speed, which is typical of a more gentle, "soft" landing. Those who have confused the camera operators inability to hold the camera steady, with some exaggeration or embellishment of the event or title baiting of the video are just wrong.
    Weather or not this was categorized as a hard landing, depends on specific criteria and determined by the manufacturer of the aircraft and/or regulating agency.
    Anyone who says that this is "normal" is wrong. This may not be a significant event, but it is certainly not typical and belongs in the maintenance log, so the appropriate inspection can be accomplished, if deemed necessary.

      jamie smith Not an expert but it wouldnt of dont much damage if the pilot did flare because the 737 series (I know its the -800 not sure bout the -300) are deisgned so that you dont need to flare on landing (which would be uncomfortable)

      @imanofficerable 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joseph Dixon I can tell you are not an expert, with all due respect.
      A flare doesn't automatically mean a soft landing. If one flares at too high of an altitude, cuts power too quickly, pitches up at a too high angle,flares too late, the V/S will either increase or decrease at a too low rate, which means an aircraft can very will smack into the ground.
      The only way a flare has its desired effect is if it is done according to procedure.

    The reason for some hard landings in Faro, Portugal have to do with the cross winds from the south and the north. When the two winds meet at the same time a plane is landing it make it impossible for any pilot to correct the landing. Just saying.

    weight is more than the MLW, but less than or equal to the MTOW, max takeoff weight. : If the aircraft gross weight is above the MTOW. : If the aircraft is in a skid or makes a landing in an uncontrolled skid on a prepared runway surface,: If the aircraft makes a landing or continues to move 0on a surface that is not prepared. : If the NLG (nose landing gear) touches the ground at the same time that only one main landing gear touches the ground.:

      Not true. A bad landing where the gear collapses and the belly of the aircraft is set alight due to friction with the runway wouldn't be a good landing, however walking away from it would be likely. Point taken nonetheless.

    Or if the aircraft bounces or skips after an initial impact and the spoilers subsequently deploy, while the aircraft is still in the air.
