I'm sure he had his hands full trying to keep the plane under control in some very serious conditions. I'm amazed they even tried to land in those conditions.
Its not a normal day in Wellington without a couple go arounds. Its funny watching people who have neved been here before experience the rollercoaster that is the final at Windy Welly 😂😂😂 I love it!
Engines are designed to go from stabilized approach idle to full throttle in under 9 seconds. Many do it in less time. If it does not meet the 9 second requirement it does not get put on a plane.
Actually i think the pilot already decided to go around before the aircraft touch down, thats why after touch, the engine immediately spooling up, jet engine has delay when spooling up from idle to full thrust, it needs some time
What's even more fascinating that the wheels allowed that force... I would have expected them to break and the airplane to touch ground with its belly when you hit the ground so bad.
Nothing but respect for these pilots. Its all fine and well sitting on a pc watching these clips but when you are actually on the plane, the respect for the pilots and the job they do in getting you up and down safely really is to be admired.
I totally agree with you on that one. I spend countless hours on flight simulators, watching TH-cam videos, watching flight trackers and everything else like that. I want to be an airline pilot when I'm older. Whenever I go on a flight, I always smile to myself, wondering what the view look like out of the cockpit. The job pilot/co-pilots do is amazing. One of the best. They deserve to be acknowledged more.
This happened to me a month ago then I was flying from Houston Tx to Dubai UAE. We were literally meters from the ground when the engines started getting louder and louder and you could feel the plane taking off again and going higher and higher into the air. I remember looking at our altitude and seeing it raise. I was so confused and a little scared, the pilot then said that there was something in our way on the runway so we circled the Dubai sky for about 5 minutes before getting the all clear to land.
Honestly this video is brilliant. I adore the sound of the engines through out the revving up and down!! You did extremely well to film in the circumstances as it must have been somewhat uncomfortable. Great pilots, and crew, immediately on intercom to reassure. Safety is always paramount. Thanks for posting.
+bananamanuk Thank you very much for leaving a comment. Was quite an experience! I did upload a full video of this flight which includes the entire approach & the second successful landing, you might find that interesting there's lots more revving up & down in that one! Haha
So Inf No, it can't. Especially cameras and so on. Of course a radio transmitter can cause disturbance on the radio but nothing else will have a problem.
Actually one of the best go around footage I've seen if not the best. Thanks !!! There are so many videos claiming "late go around" that are just casual go arounds. This one is wayyyyy above those.
I love how calm and quick that flight attendant was. He must have realised a go-around was coming given how they were being thrown around in the approach. He picked up that phone and made his announcement literally just seconds after the engines spooled up into the go around and he sounded so unalarmed and nonchalant, despite the fact that must have counted amongst the roughest landings in his career.
In german language she said sometimes hesitatingly : we had to ... go around, a landimg was unfortunately ... not possible for us ... and that sounded not so self assured .....
This was.a loss of lift event on one wing just at touchdown. Pilot engaged TOGA immediately and executed the go around. Exactly what the pilot should have done. Scary for the passengers? Yep. Scary for the pilot? Yep. The good news is that they are drilled over and over and over again as to what to do in that situation so the reaction is almost automatic. Nice job SWISS!
That hard an impact with the wind component would have caused the aircraft to "bounce" airborne. The correct course of action is to firewall the throttles and climb away with as much power as possible. If you attempt to continue the landing what can happen is what happened to the FedEx MD11 at Narita Airport. It hit hard the first time and bounced. The pilots attempted to save the landing and bounced hard again. By this time, they had lost enough airspeed that the late application of power was too little too late. The aircraft stalled, bounced a third time, rolled over and crashed on the runway. The safest course of action in a wind shear induced hard landing is to go around and attempt it again...or divert.
Hi David, the pilot rammed the throttles and gave her everything she had! "Screw the protocol!" He screamed! "I don't care if it's bad for the engines, we have to get this tin goose back in the air!" So, the engines screamed in agony as they desperately tried to propel the mechanical bird back into the sky. They all lived happily ever after, The End.
I was on an aircraft once that done a touch and go at Glasgow because of an “obstruction on the runway”. I had just explained to my mate that hates flying, that it’s very rare and that because it was a sunny and wind free day, we should have a smooth landing. He was crapping himself, I was loving the huge burst of thrust and the steeply banked tour of Glasgow City Centre to regain the approach path. Apparently it was caused by a runway incursion by another aircraft, according to the pilot anyway. Someone will be getting a talking to.
There's a delay from throttle input until engine spool-up. The pilot had already slammed full power as it started to sink and it didn't kick in until the hit. Good instincts.
Nope he was spoiling down the engines to land and notice the cross wind and pull full throttle and hang hear when he pulled for it after he hit the wine and man to get It up was 2 seconds
I've not flown for awhile now but footage like this gives you confidence how the pilot's skill and knowledge control the situation when things go wrong
I've had back surgery after a car crash and winced in memory of that day and for the people on the plane, they would have shat, the noise alone then the crash and bumping before feeling like you are in an elevator going straight up with no brakes.

+Fly757X FIRM, never in my 5 or 6 years on youtube have i ever seen such a nasty landing, not the pilots fault, i say some people on board would need new underwear,
I think there's a lack of consideration here. If your close to the ground and there's sudden windshear, the wings lose lift and you come down. Whether or not he should of gone around doesn't make sense beings that one minute a gust on flare could come which is when the plane is at it's slowest meaning it's harder to react to the gust. In this we see the pilots react within seconds. I think this was an incredible bit of piloting due to experience and knowledge of the crew. They certainly couldn't predict such a thing.
At 2:47, the baby jet parked at the gate has a main wing span which is virtually the same size as the empennage of the A380, which is parked next to it. Incredible to see the size comparison from above. Other than that, Matt this is a cool video!
Impressive touch and go. Only one question, how come the spoilers did not extent on touchdown? Normally you'd arm the spoilers on approach. The pilots must have responded very quicly in retracting them...
they arm them yes but they have a weight on wheels sensor usually so all main gear have to be on the ground before they deploy. in this case it looks like only the right MLG touched down before the pilot decided to go again
+OfficialDeathCenter No, nothing went wrong here. The Goaround was initiated at low altitude (15ft) and the aircraft touched down before enough thrust was available to climb again. We call this a balked landing. Spoilers don't extend in that case. An event that is trained in the simulator extensively.
WOW,the craziest Touch & Go what i have see here on TH-cam,but good reaction from the Pilot!! WOW,der verrückteste Touch & Go den ich je gesehen habe hier bei TH-cam aber gute Reaktion vom Piloten!!

If high power is applied they retract automatically.
they arm them yes but they have a weight on wheels sensor usually so all main gear have to be on the ground before they deploy. in this case it looks like only the right MLG touched down before the pilot decided to go again
Ok that makes sence.
On an Airbus this is correct. I believe on Boeing/MD aircraft they need to be retracted manually.
My teeth hurt, and I was only watching this on YT 😮
Kudos to the Pilots for not trying to save a bad situation 🙂
WOW,the craziest Touch & Go what i have see here on TH-cam,but good reaction from the Pilot!!
WOW,der verrückteste Touch & Go den ich je gesehen habe hier bei TH-cam aber gute Reaktion vom Piloten!!
When it first hit the ground I thought to my self that’s a Ryanair landing that 😂
Yeah stuff that!
Hey moleman, did not think you'd watch RachelMatt
Thanks for this video, it's amazing
Bosh and straight off again 😂 Those engines and the pilot operating them were magnificent!
That was a thump and go
Omg!
I could feel that harsh touchdown at 2:27.
2:27 When you think your slither into the DM was successful, but she hits you with the "I have a bf"
of course that would scare the shit out of me!!! very good touch and go though!!!
That a321 really has a powerful response love it
He was like nope not this time.. haha he climbed out of that with a crazy burst of full thrust!
2:22
I KNOW THIS IS OFF TOPIC BUT THERE'S A CONCORDE RIGHT THERE
Best aborted landing I've seen in a long time. Great catch!
+introducingmichael Glad you enjoyed it. Not something I think I want to experience again in the near future. Was extremely rough
+rachaelmatt hows your backside lol?
2:26 CONCORDE!
Sam Quinn 2:46 Qantas A380😁
This is the best go around video I’ve ever seen! Love then engines sound!
The first landing attempt was a hard thump, but the go-around was initiated immediately which was impressive. kool video, thanks!
"I think we can land"
*Touches down*
"NOPE"
Wow, great catch! Would you be okay with me featuring the touchdown in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
i love u man
that landing was that hard even my phone screen cracked watching it
Whoaa.. rough hit :( 2:27. Yup, happens quite a bit in London I've learned, lol.
Pretty cool to see how fast it picked up again to get back up there!
The fun crosswinds are when you can see the runway out the passenger window on approach right before it straightens out and touches down.
