I didn't mean understanding. The guy does a good job explaining what and why he does all that. I mean that we all said "Why are you doing this, there's no need to beat the game with minimum A Presses".

But an A press is an A press, you can't say it's an A press. But there is actually 3 parts to an A press, when A is pressed, pressed, and finally pressed. Glad that's cleared up, "Henry". Now, what is he doing in the video? This scuttlebug is a scuttlebug, and scuttlebug raising will raise the scuttlebug. You see, to raise the scuttlebug, first, you then, last raise the scuttlebug, glad that's explained, now, paaaaarralel uuuniveeeeerssseeeees.

I know its been 3 years now but did you know that if you build up speed for 11.33245775 hours you'll be misaligned enough to actually have your glasses back on your face therefore you could do this strategical move without putting them back on.
Haha, I like how he has to keep taking his glasses off and back on, not to help him see any better, but to show his sheer disbelief at what he's seeing.
GogupTheTaco I see you in Splatoon comment sections in like every srb2DUDE video (or maybe Rocket) didn't expect to see you here. Hi. (lol 9 month old comment)
I know this is a meme, and it's hilarious, but Pannenkeok deserves some respect. He is one smart cookie, and his findings have really changed everything we once knew about Mario 64. I can't wait to see what he does next.
He would probably still be quite impressed by the sheer devotion that went into figuring out exactly how SM64 works. pannenkoek probably knows even more ways to break it than its creators by now.
A five year old is likelier to find a way to break a game than it's creators. Anyone except the programmer, is more likely to execute an exception the programmer failed to consider.
So, can you explain me something? why does he need to travel 4 PUs instead of 1? What's the difference? Is something I still don't understand and is bugging me
Diego Moran Well, in the original video pannenkoek says the game checks if Mario's above land at each quarter step of his movement, so for it to be a valid movement Mario has to make sure he has such a high speed that he is above land at each quarter step, which is only possible by being above land in 4 separate PUs. But thinking about it I'm not sure what would happen if he didn't have enough speed for it to be valid. I guess nothing would happen since the game would check the next quarter step, see that Mario would end up in an invalid position and not process the movement at all.
"Is this guy rich?" My answer would be: "He put a 1000 US Dollar bounty for finding a (potentially undiscovered) Mario 64 glitch, so YOU tell me if he's rich or not."
I love the genuine curiosity for a subject he has no context for, just the human mind caught up in its purest desire to know and understand. I would, LOVE, to see more of your dad's reactions to these kinds of things
Maybe I'd record another of these someday, but I wouldn't know what would be the perfect thing that would make him totally confused but would still hold his attention. Normally he wouldn't have interest in anything related to video games. I also dunno how hilariously genuine his reactions would be if he became aware of me doing it.
I agree that that's the craziest part about it, but considering Dad doesn't really know much about 3D models, he probably wouldn't realize how insane it is that someone could pinpoint and travel across six specific polygons on a huge complicated model without me pointing it out to him. I am sad he didn't stay to watch him actually do it though.
Why the fuck does people find the original video... stupid or pointless? I just find it so much interesting and educative. Everyone has hobbies, this is his. I don't think that those people complaining about him would be happy if everyone was complaining about their hobbies/job
People don’t find it stupid, they just find it funny. I mean if one of your friends told (you before you watched the video) that you could build up speed for 12 hours, to travel to a parallel universe, so you could beat a level in 0.5 a presses, wouldn’t you find it the least bit funny?
It was a great video but it basically was the only meme video he ever got Also this is a 53 year old man I’m pretty sure the only gaming console of his age was the atari 2600 so this is all gibberish to him
As I wrote my Ocarina of Time editor (2006-2009), my family responded in quite the same way. I'd show them milestones, explain the technical reason for the achievement, and was usually met with "okie dokie!" .
Yeah that's probably because video games don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. They may be fun but in the real world they are just forms of entertainment. You actually have to be really smart to make ANY types of video games. I see a lot of younger kids who think they would love to be a video game designer just because they love video games. In actuality they would never be that because it takes a lot of hard work and you have to be really smart to do it. I know I'm commenting on this 11 months late but this guy has a right to be confused. Video games do not need to be explained to bone to normal people.
What a funny watch. The reaction is hilarious. And I actually understand everything he explains in the video. His detailed explanations are actually rather easy to follow - if you are already familiar with the A challenge and SM64 mechanics.
wariolandgoldpiramid Pannenkoek is really good at explaining things, even the complex ones. But to someone who never heard anything like this it's probably rocket science.
Aw man! I wish you could've recorded your dad's reaction to when the actual run happens. Other than that, this video is pure, polished gold LOL. I never would've imagined what this stuff looks like to people who normally wouldn't care about it hahaha

Scout Carnby Its pretty simple to understand guys. The real challenge is to figure all this shit out.
Your dad could have understood it, but first, we need to talk about parallel universes.
I expected a normal user, instead I got Dio...
First, her dad needs to build up speed for 12 hours

*clap clap clap*
People will just never understand the sheer dedication of the A button challenge community.
It's not speedrunning, : P
Amie Mallich I know but what to call it then?
Veldhuis94 "The A Button Challenge"
Umm...speed running? This is a trick that, for the particular Star it's used on, requires you wait *12 hours in one place.* XD
UltimaKeyMaster Twenty-five hours.

I know, that's so great

I'll totally consider showing my dad that video.

"Well it only takes me 4 seconds to get out of here"
Flacokra can you show your dad this video and record the reaction to that?
There are two problems:
My native language is Portuguese
And my dad's reaction was pretty boring
I would if my dad understood english
And was alive
This man was so QPU misaligned.
I just came back to this video how the fuck did this get 289 likes.
I guess you’re QPU aligned
Hey, wait a second..
I'm ALSO qpu aligned?!
dude we have so much in common
I’ve never been QPU aligned. They call me the ghost.
I can’t get back home. 😢
"Oh he has a De facto Speed" XD
SmashSSL,
He’s like ‘this shit is soo fake’
"When he's using his De Facto Secondary Speed, he can't get to that...oh wait, there's Syncing Speeds, too."
I feel like most people don't even try to understand. Speed x multiplier is a pretty simple concept
Gotta love the sass.

Yes, i'm subscribed to his channel when he gets the "impossible coin" and i really like his videos, but in some cases they are to complex for me xD
Mason Jay Well right now hes building up speed for 12 Months

As someone who knows how to program, but doesn't do it very often (so I'm not really a programmer), what Azumongo said is pretty much my reaction.
A five year old is likelier to find a way to break a game than it's creators. Anyone except the programmer, is more likely to execute an exception the programmer failed to consider.

You are all the same. You don't understand the battle between pannenkoek2012 and Tj "Henry" Yoshi
Still not as epic as Filthy Frank vs Chin-chin, or Seymour vs Elmer.
Well, *Mr. ""Wolfgang"" Oshawott God*, maybe if you could allign your QPUs, we would understand it better.
the epic battle of kappa apprently xD
