For those who don't know, he's the guy who made Doki-Doki literature club and a few of the hardest levels ever made in Mario maker.
Also was deeply involved with the project M mod for super smash bros brawl and some Melee and Super Mario Sunshine hacks.

If the action is not met, the statement returns FALSE and the action is not performed. I hope that makes sense. I'd be happy to demonstrate it more with you some time.

I wish Pannen the best of luck with trying to do longform videos and having TH-cam member revenue as his full time job, but I just hope he makes good decisions and doesn't get burned out or betrayed by the algorithm.
The fact that he doesn't ever want to take sponsors is a bold statement, and I respect it. But because he made such a statement, the risk will be even higher if he actually does resort to a sponsor someday.

The language is C, but the language doesn't really matter.
A series of if statements like these in any language is essentially a priority check. So the if statement on the top of the list will be checked, and if the condition is met, then the "return" statement triggers and no other if statements in that "list" will even be checked. So when the check sees that mario is in in the turning around state, it won't even check the others in this list of if statements.
The rest is explained in the video.
That's incorrect.
In this case the if statments don't have returns in them, so even if one is entered the rest are still checked.
It is actually the later if statment that takes priority and overwrites the freefall state with the walking state.
It's not a switch statement (which operates how you described), it's just that the last 'if' occurs after the falling check, which is what the developers should have put last but they never expected the actions to happen in the same frame.
Alternatively, they added the turning animation later in development than falling, and that check just happens to have been added last.

Not that I disagree with you entirely. I think the moral argument has some merit but for me it's the creative bankruptcy argument that holds more weight.
COMPLETELY unrelated to the video, I'd like to motion to not start the timer upon reset, but instead, have a version of the game that skips that 30 second intro and just gets to the run. It saves all of our time lol every reset, having to sit through 30 seconds of nothing is tedious for everyone involved lol I heard somewhere that the speed of the intro can be slightly altered depending on something, but I just don't think it's worth man 😅 As a top runner, I was wondering if you could run this by whoever's in charge. I was also thinking, if they want, they can make it a seperate category, or, maybe keep it jn the same category, but give runs WITH the intro, a little star next to them or something lol
I can guarantee you that the community would never agree to this. The challenge if the run is to beat the entire game starting from power on. The opening cutscene is a part of that. Like it or not, its here to stay
@@michaelmahoney5677 I think that's silly. You'd only be getting rid of the minutia. The tedious process of having to rewatch the cutscene. So in my world, there'd be a version of the game, that you power on, and everything is the same until you click new game, where it skips you to the text boxes after mario gets out of the pipe. I was thinking about removing text boxes altogether as well, but there IS some player error that can be a factor in the time, so it should be kept in. But that fuckin cutscene 😅 I like the music, I like the shot, I DON'T like when I'm watching runs, they instantly fail Lakitu and reset 😅 so then they (and we the audience) have to wait for the whole cutscene again, just to play for 3 seconds, fail Lakitu again, and wait 10x the amount they played, to try again 😂 it just seems unnecessary to me.
@@SomeoneSomewhere42069Most top runners play on actual N64 consoles, I don't think it's reasonable to get them all to play with hacked/modded carts to save them watching the intro cut scene.
@@SmokeyAmp I think most of them already do play on hacked/modded carts, don't they? I thought that's how they were able to do the training thing where you can skip from ccm, to ttc, to Bits, etc. It wouldn't be for everyone, I'm mostly proposing it for streamers. Math wise, it makes sense. The seconds you save, over the course of hours adds up to hours you can never get back, that you could've been using to practice, to do runs, to fuck your gf/bf/etc lol whatever you want. As an aside, I'm curious how much time runners have spent on watching just the intro cutscene, to start their runs 🤔 would it be hours, days, WEEKS of time even? :O Who knowss
@@SomeoneSomewhere42069many runners actually appreciate the 30s wait between attempts. It's even arguably necessary to not quickly develop RSI when running them back to back, especially after longer run attempts. All I'm saying is my guy, don't try and fix what ain't broke, 30s just isn't that big of a deal. Have you ever watched a super mario sunshine run? The intro and 'tutorial' section on that game is nuts, and way more unforgiving than sm64. And I'm not saying this to be mean or anything but do you have ADHD? 😂
