    I stopped here on the return from the Hellfire Pass, and looking back, I didn't appreciate Mallika City enough. Nothing seemed worthy after the Hellfire Pass. I can even see how much the Hellfire Pass took out of me in this vlog. I was deflated. Mallika City is a awesome place to see the original ways of Siam (Thailand). In hindsight, I wish I done this vlog a few days after the Hellfire Pass.

    18:42 - Fish Maw Soup. It's a Chinese dish made with fish swim bladders. Probably quite gooey. At the Chiang Mai Saturday Walking Street at Wualai there is a stall near the beginning that sells Fish Maw Soup. The first year I was there the sign said Fish Maw Soap.. someone must have told him about it because the next year there was a white square of paper covering over the letter "a" in "Soap". I guess he'd started repairing the sign but didn't get around to completing the repair. It was like that for a while after. I took pictures, of course...

    I visited those times from what I could only muster the first 4 chapters of FOUR REIGNS. 😁 After my upcoming Thai trip, headed to Egypt and snow surveying literature I'm delving 4500 BC old that makes some kind of sense.

    Wonder how they got ice in the old days.. 😁 There's a museum kinda like this near Bangkok, except it's got replicas of famous temples and buildings from around Thailand. Quite large, and when I visited it was full of schoolkids and other visitors. They took us there after a conference. This was the first time I'd ever been in Thailand. There was a large bunch of schoolkids who walked by, some of them thought I was Chinese so they started saying "Ni Hao", and that eventually turned into "Meow". I laughed my head off.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question, how did they make ice in 1905? I'll have to look that one up. Yes, these places do normally have school kids in. This place was really like stepping back.

    You can also visit the Jim Thompson house in Bangkok, there is a BTS stop right beside it, very easy to find. He was an American who had deep roots in Thailand and went missing in 1967. Critical of U.S. military involvement in S.E. Asia, he was most likely murdered by the C.I.A.

    Looks like the ancient Thai women were always eating just like the modern ones. What a cool place. I laughed when you said he's not pulling your 3rd leg 😂.
