ah, it's so moving to see the girls having such a wonderful time. Time just goes by so fast. They were so beautiful, happy and all their lives ahead of them. All their dreams, I hope they got a few of them. They have to be in their seventies now. That generation was a very special one.

I am a member of 'that generation,' but I fail to see the specialness. No doubt every generation is unique in some way. Perhaps the baby boom generation is special in terms of its pleasure-seeking ethos, its unrepentant hedonism! To quote the inimitable Austin Powers, "As long as people are still having promiscuous sex with many anonymous partners while at the same time experimenting with mind-expanding drugs in a consequence-free environment, I’ll be sound as a pound!"

Pete Seeger wrote 'To Everything There Is a Season' in 1959. I love the Byrds and I am closest to my Dad whenever I listen to anything they played. My Dad's birthday would have been next week (April 2024).. The Byrds made Mr Tambourine Man better than Dylan (although my dad was torn between the original and the Byrd's cover)..
The Byrds are why I came to find this video.. but Pete Seeger needs more than a mention, he wrote the whole song!!
"To Everything There Is A Season", please listen to it if you haven't already!!!
The Limeliters released it in 1962, and is a really fun, different interpretation .. I challenge anyone who reads this comment to listen to Pete Seeger's original.. and then try not to do a jiggly dance when you listen to the 1962 Limeliters version 😊😂
    There is a season,
A time to hear the Byrds, a time to hear the original, a time to hear Pete Seeger sing, and a time to dance with the Limeliters ❤

Many televised or filmed for later broadcast music entertainment shows were given a hand-picked audience consisting of friends of the band, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews of the record label, studio, or broadcasting entity. And is a few months Mike could play the drums on Eight Miles High? Hard to fathom this beginner style evolving to that level so fast.

The line-up was: Chris Hillman, David Crosby, Michael Clarke, Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn.

no doubt. the beatles’ signature rickenbacker jangle and dylan’s lyrics and melodies gave the byrds a platform on which they could build. the reality is that the beatles and bob dylan are, 60 years later, almost incomparable to those who’ve followed since. you can’t discredit the byrds though. they reimagined and reinterpreted a great sound that so many failed to make their own with such success as the byrds’ while making bob dylan’s tunes a blueprint for their own back catalogue. mr tambourine man is a truly great album. the byrds were obviously taking from dylan and the beatles, but who hasn’t at some stage? the byrds will always be acknowledged for the bob dylan tunes they reworked, and even across the originals, that influence alongside the rickenbacker twang, lifted shamelessly from the beatles ‘hard day’s night.’ can’t discredit any band that has taken from the beatles and bob dylan at all. the byrds i’m sure would never have professed to have come close in matching lennon/mccartney/harrison or dylan’s creativity, they just made great tunes (be it their own or those they made their own) sound as good as pop music has ever sounded. and no one can deny eight miles high is a true staple of psychedelia in the mid 60s either.

His chord changes are done well and that says something. He plays quite well at Woodstock. Used a lot of open tunings. Had a fine voice for both lead and harmony.

I've found it a bit sad. The band was playing very profound themed songs, but the public wasn't much interested in them and wanted just to have cheap fun. I can see why those musicians were soon fed up of live playing for those kinds of audiences. The second incarnation of the Byrds was at the time less successful, but they selected
better audiences (well, except the fake one for the Playboy TV show and their bad night in Nashville) and were much more confident in their skills. Even if they were Roger's band they were still the Byrds, and probably much more committed in finding a unique style as a full American band, not an outshoot of the Beatles.
