This song helps me feel at peace during troubled times. It's the most accurate summation of life I can find, as the lyrics are all encompassing of the aspects of humanity and daily life. Everything changes and nothing is permanent except for change. There are positives and negatives, but experiencing them all is just part of being human, and it's comforting to feel connected to it all. At least, that's what I myself take from this song. Amazing tune.

Lost my dad (even before he died) to alcoholism. When I was 5 my mom left him for that reason. At 12 I lost my mom to cancer, and I thought "but I still have my dad..." He came home but late, my mom had already been buried and he left without saying goodbye, I had again, lost my dad. When I was 16 my dad died from cirrhosis, that day I decided to not have hard feelings towards my dad, and I cried because somehow I understood we lost the chance to get to know each other... Later in life, while going through one of the worst times of my life, I had a dream, in it my dad came to visit, and he gave me a hug... and I felt loved... I cry every time I remember. The next day I realized it was, FATHER'S DAY!!! Something I longed for... For a long time, God my Father sent to me, under the worst of circumstances and on a perfect day, Father's day. It is true, to everything... there is a season, I had longed for my earthly father's love, now I know, I was loved, my dad just was a prisoner of the alcoholism, I just have two wishes, for my dad even in his last breaths have asked for the Lord's forgiveness and for me to see him again in heaven to hug him again and tell him "dad I love you, Father thought me to love and He forgave me, so I forgive you, hug me again, like in father's day..." To God, the perfect Father, be the glory, for his goodness and mercies towards me, undeserving totally.
This song was my dad's favorite song. He loved it because it was in a Bible verse and he was a devoted Christian so this is the song that reminds me most of him. Which is why I love the song. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack on December 30th 2021 at the age of 59. R.I.P. Dad. Miss you

@@corydorastubeIt's a contentious and often very convenient book for the men who no doubt rewrote it under King James 1611. There is also wisdom and beauty in it. If nothing more, it a reference point of paramount relevance to understand the world we live in vile and beautiful.
@@corydorastube Deuteronomy is how it's spelled. It was Christians in America (Our FREE Country) Who opposed slavery. Jeremiah 17:9 says: "The heart is deceitfully wicked and beyond understanding." Our sinful hearts cause the evil in the world. (Everyone > Romans 3:23) We are all capable of sin. Slavery is sin. The banksters who control most governments are sinful. Abortion is MURDER! And liberals are illogical / without the ability to reason. Jesus came to pay for (atone) for our sins. He is God's answer to create the righteousness He requires for us to live with Him in eternity. (We can't attain this on our own) Why? Because the fallen human condition is at enmity with a holy Creator. His justice must be assuaged and Jesus is the only one (The God-Man) who can do that. You cannot understand these things unless God opens your eyes and draws you (John 6:44). Jesus is the only way (John 14:6, Acts 4:12 etc...) All religion is nonsense and man made. Only scripture (God's word) is the source of truth. When murder, theft, lying, and abuse disappears (all those who practice these things will be in Hell!), then God will have purged the sin nature from His chosen (elect), and we will dwell with Him forever. Again, we can't do this, only Jesus substitutionary death, His burial, and His resurrection accomplishes this task which for man is impossible. Ignore the world religions including Roman Catholicism! These are man made, works oriented methods that cannot change the human heart. Only God through Christ can do this! Your error is called oversimplification! Study the Bible and trust Christ!

I was 10 yo, coming back from tumor removal in my head in 1969, cannot walk because I was too dizzy, laying down I heard that song on the radio and this song help me to stand strong, God is always there when you need him the most.
As an older man now I listen to the old songs and am horrified by the words we were singing along with. Many/most were pathetic or downright despicable. But this is profound.
From when they first started in 1964 in California, I have worshiped the group 'THE BYRDS' and when I die, I want 'Mr Tambourine Man' played for me. As an 19-year-old on the 14 August 1965 I was lucky enough to attend their live performance at the Flamingo Club in London's West End - I was mesmerised, On 6 July 1968 I was fortunate to see them again in concert in the Roundhouse Camden London and have a poster from then shown below. For my 60th Birthday Party at the Straand Hotel Vradal Norway my two super sons, presented me with a Vinyl LP of the Byrds with the cover signed personally by the entire group which hangs proudly on the wall in my office. I will treasure it for ever and remains one of my most valuable possessions.
To me the Byrds are the finest band to come out of the USA. Here in the UK I was a college in 1965 when Mr Tambourine Man came out and we were lucky to have lots of groups like the Beatles and the Stones etc reinventing pop music but hearing the Byrds was something different, their music was built on a clean guitar sound, songs with great lyrics built around tuneful melodies and best of all you could hear what they singing. Yes they were good, very, very good.
If we kept these lyrics in mind as we go on our life's journey, we would be equipped to meet all challenges that Life sends our way. Great song, sang by the fantastic Byrds!
I know exactly what you mean. Born in 1982. These melodies and interwoven guitars speak to me like I belong to that era. First time I heard this song was in that scene in Forrest Gump when Jenny leaves in the bus giving the peace sign. Stuck with me ever since.
@Barry Obama it must have made sense for the 13 people that gave his comment a thumbs up. I was born in 1978. In the 50's and 60's people preached the Word of God in mainstream music. This song is derived directly from Ecc. 3:1-8. What happened in music since The Beatles, The Byrds, and The Righteous Brothers is drugs. Music even became evil, with a darker sound. People started 'Running With the Devil', and giving a 'Shout At The Devil, on a 'Highway To Hell'. Music for the most part, was pure, until drugs walked in. But 'Love Walks In' in the person of Sammy Hagar, in the world of Van Halen. And where love exists, the devil is running in the opposite direction. After love walked in away from the Sunset Strip, Axl started 'Knocking On Heavens Door' in the midst of all the debauchery at the worst spot in the U.S.A. to begin a music career, the Sunset Strip, where David Lee Roth began 'Running With The Devil'. But "Love never fails"...1 Cor. 13: 8, even at the Sunset Strip.
Same here only I lived thru it and saw the Byrds twice live, once at my college in Canton Missouri in the spring of 1966 and again summer of 1966 in Chicago at the Aire Crown Theater in Mc Cormick Place where the chicks chased the Byrds down Michigan Ave tearing at their clothes and that experience I was told, inspired the song "So You Wanna Be a Rock N Roll Star" or so the story goes, it was a marvelous time unlike today that seems to think they can re create that period, only it is a bad dream version with a terrible ending.......
I've heard this song over a hundred times, but McGuinn's instrumental break on his Ricky 12 at 2:03 still send chills up my spine. Beautiful stuff indeed.
Hip hop quotes the bible all the time--just listen to Cardi B. and WAP. The bible she quotes probably has a different author than the one you have in mind, though...
Lol. "WAP". The U.S. is 80% Christian. I love this song, but not because of it quoting the Bible, but nobody is stopping anyone from quoting the Bible in music.
Such a beautiful way to walk your beloved to the gate of God's kingdom. God bless you. I know she will be there when it's your time to happily receive you. I think all our loved ones will be there when is our season.
I was ten years old when I checked this album out from the library in 1966. I'd like to be blown away today by new music the way I was when I first listened to "Turn Turn Turn."
"Turn! Turn! Turn!", also known as or subtitled "To Everything There Is a Season", is a song written by Pete Seeger in 1959.[1] The lyrics - except for the title, which is repeated throughout the song, and the final two lines - consist of the first eight verses of the third chapter of the biblical Book of Ecclesiastes. The song was originally released in 1962 as "To Everything There Is a Season" on the folk group the Limeliters' album Folk Matinee, and then some months later on Seeger's own The Bitter and the Sweet.[2]
I am 67 and these are the songs we sang as peace activists and these are so needed at this time !! learn these songs and sing them. We need to stop the annihilation of Gaza and we need to sing ourselves to peaceful world
An 'Anthem of the Ages', truly. Even though I am agnostic and this song is inspired by scripture, it still somehow says a lot. It charted back in 1965, and if my memory serves me right, around the time I was about to transition from jr. high to high school (which turned out to be the best 4 years of my life, even to date, by far). That only magnified its significance for me.
Ecclesiastes 3 1-8 . The only words Pete wrote in this song was the word turn and a time for peace I swear it’s not to late. The rest is king Solomon. Great tune!

These lyrics for the most part come straight from the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. I encourage you to read the whole book.
Well said😉
That's the power of the Bible
I'm glad you feel the same way about the song as I do I know I reason I found it that was a popular song in the mid-sixties I heard it and I fell in love with it then I did some research and found it was from the book of ecclesiastics
I fell in love with the sun because then I found out it was from The Book of Ecclesiastes and I use inspiration tell me me through the day but I don't know if I can make it much longer
Part of the sound of my generation. It was a wonderful time to be young. Thanks for the memories.

Quite fitting since it's straight from the bible.

I'm sorry about your father. I hope you and yours are doing well. :)
Someone already beat me to it, but yes Ecclesiastes chapter 3. Solomon is warning against vanity and temptation.
My daughter is learning Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 right now. As I’m helping her I knew the verses sounded familiar to a song I heard. So neat!
I just learned this Now !!!!! Wow!!!!
I heard these words during the mid 1960s and 1970s at every wedding I attended before the couple was married as their wedding vows.
How about the other verses of that chapter? They are in the song also. 1st third last third middle third.
The harmonies, the spirituality, and those guitars, the Byrds made this song with such heart!

This song came straight out of the bible. Solomon wrote it.
It is true, to everything... there is a season, I had longed for my earthly father's love, now I know, I was loved, my dad just was a prisoner of the alcoholism, I just have two wishes, for my dad even in his last breaths have asked for the Lord's forgiveness and for me to see him again in heaven to hug him again and tell him "dad I love you, Father thought me to love and He forgave me, so I forgive you, hug me again, like in father's day..."
To God, the perfect Father, be the glory, for his goodness and mercies towards me, undeserving totally.
What a beautiful summary of a very difficult situation. Hugs and support to you, whoever you are.
nothing but good vibes, peace and love to all

I was in grade school in 1965. This is a phenominal song based on Ecclesiastes chapter 3. "Read the Bible, it's great for the soul."
Really. Is the stuff in Genisis, Duetronomy and Leviticus about how to treat slaves great for the soul?
@@TheJakecakes Read my answer to Cory above. You are guilty of the error of oversimplification and reading text OUT of context. Study, and learn from people who are intelligent. Don't just mouth the ideas of ignorant unbelievers who don't understand the entire word of God.
@@jimbobo8193Your other reply is not showing. I am always willing to learn Sir and I am a firm believer in The Lord Savior Christ and that everything on this planet is divinely created good and evil everything with its opposite. Many mysteries we cannot understand which I would say the song addresses. Why a time for war? As believers it is difficult to understand this evil. Now if you cannot except that mortal men of great power and even some without, may use the Bible to sanction sinful action of others than I would say you are incredibly naive. I'm not mouthing anyone else's beliefs or words. I'm expressing my point of view at this moment in time. That is subject to change at any time as I continue to learn. Best wishes to you and yours.🙏

The Byrds never get old to me .McGuinns Rickenbacker, the Harmonies. Timeless band..........

This song makes me homesick for a time I’ve never known.
You be nailed it!!!!

True, but not many imbued with the Holy Spirit like this song that brings tears to the eyes.
"Turn!

This was all over the radio in '65, love it.
Ecclesiastes 3 1-8 . The only words Pete wrote in this song was the word turn and a time for peace I swear it’s not to late. The rest is king Solomon. Great tune!
