That is not to say that Crosby was not very talented; rather, it is to note how super talented and original the entire band was.
You have said it. As talented as he was, Crosby was only 4th in the original 5 Byrds lineup. And then later came Gram Parsons and Clarence White, as well as Gene Parsons, who along with White invented the B Bender guitar. Just amazing talent and lifelong contributions to good music by the Byrds.
PETE SEEGER wrote "TURN! TURN! TURN!" in 1959. The lyrics are based on the first eight verses of the third chapter of the biblical "BOOK OF ECCLESIASTES," with the exception of the title, which is repeated throughout the song, and the last two lines. In late 1965, THE BYRDS transformed it into a folk rock arrangement, and it became a worldwide hit.
This song helps me feel at peace during troubled times. It's the most accurate summation of life I can find, as the lyrics are all encompassing of the aspects of humanity and daily life. Everything changes and nothing is permanent except for change. There are positives and negatives, but experiencing them all is just part of being human, and it's comforting to feel connected to it all. At least, that's what I myself take from this song. Amazing tune.
I'm glad you feel the same way about the song as I do I know I reason I found it that was a popular song in the mid-sixties I heard it and I fell in love with it then I did some research and found it was from the book of ecclesiastics

My grandfather was a farmer in the late 1890s and early 1900s and was very religious. He did everything by the "sign" that included when to plant or harvest. He also slaughtered our hogs or beef. According to the "sign" He taught me to watch the trees for signs of heavy or light nut productions predicting a bad or winter. Wish I had paid more attention to his teachings, but still remember many.
@@rangerswife2176 Thanks for your interest. We live in Eastern WV and it was a farming or orchard county for years but that has all changed due to the spread of new developments from the DC area. I grew up on a small farm with cows, sheep , hogs and chickens. My grandmother use to churn the milk to make butter and would take it in town with eggs to sell. We had a black family work for us with Uncle Dan helping Granddad with the farm chores and Aunt Hattie doing housework. Their young kids helped as well. They were paid and were given almost anything from the huge garden and anything we could spare from the meat house. Wish I had been more able to hear Granddad's prophecies before he died. I left home at 17 and joined the Air Force as I was tired of chasing cows and tossing hay bales and toting feed sacks.

That book; which is what the word bible actually means; filled with a lot of stories written thousands of years ago by humans, through their consciousness thousands of years ago, ignorant of how creation really created Itself, does have some meaningful stories. Then there’s so much else showing a very distorted idea of life, fairytales essentially, with a myth-illogical ‘god’ who kills when people don’t follow ‘his’ way. Have you ever really thought about it? Used critical thinking skills? Or just accepted it at face value as I did for almost 50 years, believing with blind faith and being told if I didn’t I’d go to hell? King Akhenaten was just one of the first to believe in a one ‘god’ over many. It was the Sun. 🌞 Star Wars series and Wizard of Oz and so many other stories are much more relevant nowadays, with a lot more integrity. “Do not believe anything just because…” from the kalama sutta-by Gautama Buddha. Can be read in full online. I had the ‘bible’ verses read when I believed this stuff, at my sister’s funeral, after she ended her life; hanging herself from a tree in a cemetery a month before her 49th birthday in 2009.
I played the song for my Son's funeral services who plays guitar and loved music, Ecclesiastes 3. ''I love you Aeron my son, play your tune in Heaven where no one will judge how you play guitar'' Rest In Peace my Son , enjoy worshipping God in Heaven..
As an older man now I listen to the old songs and am horrified by the words we were singing along with. Many/most were pathetic or downright despicable. But this is profound.
Lost my dad (even before he died) to alcoholism. When I was 5 my mom left him for that reason. At 12 I lost my mom to cancer, and I thought "but I still have my dad..." He came home but late, my mom had already been buried and he left without saying goodbye, I had again, lost my dad. When I was 16 my dad died from cirrhosis, that day I decided to not have hard feelings towards my dad, and I cried because somehow I understood we lost the chance to get to know each other... Later in life, while going through one of the worst times of my life, I had a dream, in it my dad came to visit, and he gave me a hug... and I felt loved... I cry every time I remember. The next day I realized it was, FATHER'S DAY!!! Something I longed for... For a long time, God my Father sent to me, under the worst of circumstances and on a perfect day, Father's day. It is true, to everything... there is a season, I had longed for my earthly father's love, now I know, I was loved, my dad just was a prisoner of the alcoholism, I just have two wishes, for my dad even in his last breaths have asked for the Lord's forgiveness and for me to see him again in heaven to hug him again and tell him "dad I love you, Father thought me to love and He forgave me, so I forgive you, hug me again, like in father's day..." To God, the perfect Father, be the glory, for his goodness and mercies towards me, undeserving totally.
❤ so cool that you relate this song to God. Not many ppl in the world have the kind of wisdom anymore to hear these lyrics and know that it's not just a poem.
I know exactly what you mean. Born in 1982. These melodies and interwoven guitars speak to me like I belong to that era. First time I heard this song was in that scene in Forrest Gump when Jenny leaves in the bus giving the peace sign. Stuck with me ever since.
@Barry Obama it must have made sense for the 13 people that gave his comment a thumbs up. I was born in 1978. In the 50's and 60's people preached the Word of God in mainstream music. This song is derived directly from Ecc. 3:1-8. What happened in music since The Beatles, The Byrds, and The Righteous Brothers is drugs. Music even became evil, with a darker sound. People started 'Running With the Devil', and giving a 'Shout At The Devil, on a 'Highway To Hell'. Music for the most part, was pure, until drugs walked in. But 'Love Walks In' in the person of Sammy Hagar, in the world of Van Halen. And where love exists, the devil is running in the opposite direction. After love walked in away from the Sunset Strip, Axl started 'Knocking On Heavens Door' in the midst of all the debauchery at the worst spot in the U.S.A. to begin a music career, the Sunset Strip, where David Lee Roth began 'Running With The Devil'. But "Love never fails"...1 Cor. 13: 8, even at the Sunset Strip.
Same here only I lived thru it and saw the Byrds twice live, once at my college in Canton Missouri in the spring of 1966 and again summer of 1966 in Chicago at the Aire Crown Theater in Mc Cormick Place where the chicks chased the Byrds down Michigan Ave tearing at their clothes and that experience I was told, inspired the song "So You Wanna Be a Rock N Roll Star" or so the story goes, it was a marvelous time unlike today that seems to think they can re create that period, only it is a bad dream version with a terrible ending.......
Please I can sympathise with our pain. I lost older friends during the Vietnam war, those were bad time for all of us. This song was probably one of the greatest songs of the sixties that I can remember.
I love this song. Every time something heavy happens to me, I remember that there is a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Sometimes times are great, sometimes they're crappy, sometimes they're in between. Right now it's a crappy time for me, but then the future might get better.

And liberals are illogical / without the ability to reason. Jesus came to pay for (atone) for our sins. He is God's answer to create the righteousness He requires for us to live with Him in eternity. (We can't attain this on our own) Why? Because the fallen human condition is at enmity with a holy Creator. His justice must be assuaged and Jesus is the only one (The God-Man) who can do that. You cannot understand these things unless God opens your eyes and draws you (John 6:44). Jesus is the only way (John 14:6, Acts 4:12 etc...) All religion is nonsense and man made. Only scripture (God's word) is the source of truth. When murder, theft, lying, and abuse disappears (all those who practice these things will be in Hell!), then God will have purged the sin nature from His chosen (elect), and we will dwell with Him forever. Again, we can't do this, only Jesus substitutionary death, His burial, and His resurrection accomplishes this task which for man is impossible. Ignore the world religions including Roman Catholicism! "Turn! Turn! The song was originally released in 1962 as "To Everything There Is a Season" on the folk group the Limeliters' album Folk Matinee, and then some months later on Seeger's own The Bitter and the Sweet.[2]

@@Joy_Ilesanmi Mostly,,, Solomon, who had everything, could do anything he wanted, do to anyone what he wanted, wasn't the happiest guy in the world. He talks about vanity. I related that in this context, vanity means putting yourself above God in your life. It doesn't benefit you. God strategically used Solomon as writer for this book, as we all know who he was, and his words have great weight.
This was authored by Pete Seeger, an influential folk artist. He recorded a demo of “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)” around 1961, and included a live version on his 1962 album “The Bitter and The Sweet” with voice and guitar only. The Byrds brought it out of folk circles with their electrified cover (1965). Released as the follow-up to their #1 hit “Mr. Tambourine Man” (1965), it topped the chart in the US. The lyrics were taken from a passage […] in the Bible. In an interview, Seeger explained : “I don’t read the Bible that often. I leaf through it occasionally […]. I call it the greatest book of folklore ever given.” He added : “ I got a letter from my publisher, and he said, ‘Pete, I can’t sell these protest songs you write’ […]. I sat down with a tape recorder and said, ‘I can’t write the kind of songs you want. You gotta go to somebody else. This is the only kind of song I know how to write.’ I pulled out this slip of paper in my pocket and improvised a melody to it in fifteen minutes. And I sent it to him. And I got a letter from him the next week that said, ‘Womderful! Just what I’m looking for.’ Within two months he’d sold it to the Limelighters and then to the Byrds. I liked the Byrd’s record very much, incidentally. All those clanging, steel guitars - they sound like bells.” When the Byrds started working on the tune, Jim McGuinn and David Crosby devised a new arrangement of Seeger’s original, but it took the band over 50 tries to get the sound right. Among the pioneers of folk rock, the Byrds’ popularity in the ‘60s rivaled that of The Beatles❕ The group’s characteristic feature was McGuinn’s 12-string Rickenbacker guitar. This was used in the 1994 masterpiece “Forrest Gump”, as Forrest (Tom Hanks) says goodbye to Jenny (Robin Wright) who is leaving for Berkeley. 💚🌀💜

That is not to say that Crosby was not very talented; rather, it is to note how super talented and original the entire band was.
Amen, RIP David Crosby
@@eugeneoreilly9356Actually, this is mainly borrowed from Scripture...Ecclesiastes. It was written by Solomon, a very long time ago.

Yes
These verses from the Bible in this song truly and powerfully sum up life
They all do that! Blessed be God.
These lyrics for the most part come straight from the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. I encourage you to read the whole book.
Well said😉
That's the power of the Bible
I'm glad you feel the same way about the song as I do I know I reason I found it that was a popular song in the mid-sixties I heard it and I fell in love with it then I did some research and found it was from the book of ecclesiastics
I fell in love with the sun because then I found out it was from The Book of Ecclesiastes and I use inspiration tell me me through the day but I don't know if I can make it much longer

I’m interested to hear more!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 ❤️🙏🏾 Every time I read these Bible verses, the original "lyrics", I think about this song. The Bible is so poetic. Lovely song..
🤬🤬🤬
Star Wars series and Wizard of Oz and so many other stories are much more relevant nowadays, with a lot more integrity.
I just finished reading Ecclesiastes 3 and I had to hear this song immediately.

@@TheJakecakes Written by Pete Seeger. paraphrasing the Bible.
@@evanescence2721 Paraphrased a little, but much of the song follows the KJV translation of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 pretty closely.
It is true, to everything... there is a season, I had longed for my earthly father's love, now I know, I was loved, my dad just was a prisoner of the alcoholism, I just have two wishes, for my dad even in his last breaths have asked for the Lord's forgiveness and for me to see him again in heaven to hug him again and tell him "dad I love you, Father thought me to love and He forgave me, so I forgive you, hug me again, like in father's day..."
To God, the perfect Father, be the glory, for his goodness and mercies towards me, undeserving totally.
What a beautiful summary of a very difficult situation. Hugs and support to you, whoever you are.

❤ so cool that you relate this song to God. Not many ppl in the world have the kind of wisdom anymore to hear these lyrics and know that it's not just a poem.
you are missing the point of it all to suit your own beliefs
This song makes me homesick for a time I’ve never known.

I was in grade school in 1965. This is a phenominal song based on Ecclesiastes chapter 3. "Read the Bible, it's great for the soul."
Really. Is the stuff in Genisis, Duetronomy and Leviticus about how to treat slaves great for the soul?
@@corydorastubeIt's a contentious and often very convenient book for the men who no doubt rewrote it under King James 1611. There is also wisdom and beauty in it. If nothing more, it a reference point of paramount relevance to understand the world we live in vile and beautiful.
@@corydorastube Deuteronomy is how it's spelled. It was Christians in America (Our FREE Country) Who opposed slavery. Jeremiah 17:9 says: "The heart is deceitfully wicked and beyond understanding." Our sinful hearts cause the evil in the world. (Everyone > Romans 3:23) We are all capable of sin. Slavery is sin. The banksters who control most governments are sinful. Abortion is MURDER! These are man made, works oriented methods that cannot change the human heart. Only God through Christ can do this! Your error is called oversimplification! Study the Bible and trust Christ!

The song was originally released in 1962 as "To Everything There Is a Season" on the folk group the Limeliters' album Folk Matinee, and then some months later on Seeger's own The Bitter and the Sweet.[2]

I call it the greatest book of folklore ever given.”
He added : “ I got a letter from my publisher, and he said, ‘Pete, I can’t sell these protest songs you write’ […]. All those clanging, steel guitars - they sound like bells.”
When the Byrds started working on the tune, Jim McGuinn and David Crosby devised a new arrangement of Seeger’s original, but it took the band over 50 tries to get the sound right.
