I was Ben Stiller's stand-in for the Genghis Kahn scene and an extra in the bar. This was one of the coolest things I ever did it was hilarious as it was happening as well as the finished product. Lots of stories to go with this little life adventure.

I've accidentally found this movie one evening while browsing the Internet for movie recommendations, and I loved every minute of it.
met kristy swanson back in 2016 and i told her about highway to hell and i how liked it and she told me she had a lot of fun makeing the movie

This film is so good, it's a shame all the troubles during production didn't allow it to become the cult classic it deserves to be.

Absolutely love this movie. It's one of those movies that if you directed it, even if never found the success it deserved, you'd still be completely proud of it.
I LOVE this movie! I sought it out after the Fangoria coverage when it was first being filmed. I've had a VHS copy since the '90s (from a video rental store that was going out of business... remember video rental stores?).
Had that issue as well. Was glad my local video store at the time had it. Saw it on HBO several times as well back in the day.

Before he was known Ben Stiller also had a bit part as a sleazy salesman on an episode of Miami Vice. I wonder if it was the same one directed by this movie's director.

I've never watched this film and this is like looking at it fresh. Loving the practical effects and costume designs as always. Amazed at what they could do with a small budget.

I like to imagine a world where the producer was right and the one person who never made it is Ben Stiller.
I saw that one movie where Ben plays a crack addict, it was actually good. Of course he didn't do any comedy in it, so maybe that helped?

Man!! I remember renting this one when I was younger. It is one of those odd films you never really forgot about, but doesn't get mentioned at all. I was happy to see it on HBO several months ago.
EIGHT THEATERS! One of which was the Village Cinema IV* in Austin, Texas, where I was a projectionist!
*now an Alamo Drafthouse.
Kevin Peter Hall was also Harry in Harry and the Hendersons!

Love this movie. The guy who played the Hellcop was gonna be at a con by me a few months ago, but had to cancel due to the weather being too dangerous to fly.It was a one-day event as well.
One other channel did a review on this movie and it was good. Now two great channels have done a review. Glad you did a video on this underated classic, this movie deserves more attention.

I love this movie, particularly Richard Farnsworth (old fellow at gas station). And especially for a low-budget movie that's a few years old, the Hell Cop's makeup really holds up.
I've never heard of this movie before but it sounds awesome!! I'm definitely picking this up from Kino!

There are SOOOO many reasons this is a Top 20 B-Movie. Truly love this as a bad movie with all the trimmings.

Been circling this movie for well over ten years, first discovering the existence through C.J. Graham's filmography (whom I always perceived as a hulking presence and just discovered I'm very slightly taller which happens regularly, just recently same exact thing with Clancy Brown). Finally got to it last year as a part of Halloween Marathon. Glad to see it featured in "Exploring" series, since people should be more aware of this, definitely a hidden gem and a cult film. A total blast to watch, especially with how much of details and sophisticated Easter eggs there are. And atmosphere is superb, too. Stiller as a cook never bothered me, as his anti-humor just fits within the vibe of everything being off an unenjoyable... in Hell.
Thanks for doing a video on this one, I had a fun time with this move on a movie night you did on Twitch. More people need to give this movie a try. I love the Exploring videos, thanks Cecil!

I just watch it on Tubi for the first time and can't believe I overlooked this classic all these years!
I remember I used to rent this movie from a local place(and showed it to some friends once) and how sad I was when they got rid of it. I remembered it off and on throughout the years and Kino Lorber's eventual release was a dream come true.

@@300DBenz That depends on which interpretation of Hell you're going for. Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost both depict Hell (or at least parts of it) as being dark and cold due to being so far away from God's light.

I must confess I don't think I have ever heard of this movie, which seems to be a shame because there was definitely some talent and creativity that went into it.
Great job on the episode, Cecil. Your research and ability to make the behind-the-scenes story so much fun is always a treat. I remember there being a lot of "road to hell" movies at the rental place, so I can't be 100% sure this was a film I saw back then. I will check it out now though, since it looks like a wild ride.

I have always loved this film, I had no idea it had been shelved for so long and received a very limited theatrical release, what a shame! it's a great film and Kristy Swanson is absolutely stunning in it as always.

Cool back story on the film but I could never get into this film the humor never got me maybe because I wanted a more R rated approach horror film sword of like "Phantasm 2" or " Evil Dead 2-Dead by Dawn" at least to me it's cool it has a fan base and that you enjoy the film for it is Cecil.
Working in video stores throughout the 90's I was well aware of this movie but never actually watched it, because the box made it look like C-grade horror not worth anyone's time...wasn't until years later I heard it was mostly clever comedy in a deliberately-low-budget horror vehicle, and by then a decent copy was difficult to find. Be renting that Blu-ray right soon!
I remember catching this flick late one night on HBO when I was younger. Being a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and having a crush on Kristy Swanson at the time) I watched it and loved it. Haven't seen it in probably 15 to 20 years now. I still think I'd have a fun time watching it now with a couple of drinks and either with my wife or friends. I'm a fan of Nightmare 4 too so the connection to that film is a cool bit of trivia. I love the Hell Cop idea and the Hell Cop car.

saw this one time on TV when i was a kid in the early 2000s. scarred me for life and sticks with me to this day. incredible film.
There was another movie that was made around the same time in 1990 or 1991 called "Motorama" that always reminds me alot of this film. They both take place in the desert for a good chunk of the runtime and both have a strangeness to them that makes them unique. Nothing But Trouble with Chevy Chase & Dan Aykroyd is in that same vein too aside from the desert.
I liked that you specify that it is the film. Still think there's a chance that TH-cam might demonetize the video because of the song and the fact that AC/DC are blockers. Rooting that it's not the case.

Highway to Hell is one of my all-time favorite B Horror movies. If you guys like this then I recommend House (1986) and Ghost Town (1988).
