i clicked on this video not knowing what a scotch egg is. after watching the entire video, im still not sure what a scotch egg is, but I know for sure what a beautiful friendship is.
I have been eating scotch eggs for years. Never have I heard they should have a runny yolk. We always used hard-boiled eggs with hot honey mustard to dip them in.
During the youtube egg meltdown of 2021 I realised where Babish went wrong. The UK does love scotch eggs. But no one in the past 50 or so years has actually made them at home. We buy them. The cheap ones are hard boiled, the expensive ones are semi soft boiled.
I have never no matter the price or where it's from so far encountered a soft yoke scotch egg every single time it's been boiled and I've had both regular and vegetarian scotch eggs.
Andrew: Jokingly smacks plate on his head. Plate: Welp, Imma head out. (The best part is that you can hear the half hit the floor...and rattle slightly with no breakage.)
Andrew, I love that you tried so hard to make the yolk runny. But, as an English/Scottish person, I want to be straight with you and say that my Grandma never once made me a Scotch Egg with a runny yolk. They were always set, and I love them that way. Also, wrap the sausage and egg in a hot water pastry and turn them into Scitch Egg Cornish Pasties. They are fecking delicious!!!!
could also work where andy doesnt know what the recipe is and kendall describes it in the vaguest way possible and chaos ensues as he tries to figure out whats going on
I really want to see a show called "Late Night Snack" where Andrew and a single camera-person make a complex recipie at 2 a.m. PS if this gets made please let me suggest the first snack.
I think the whole snack food thing is when they're made by people who make them like every day. Relatively simple ingredients, bulk-friendly cooking methods, and particular timetables. With a lot of experience and really specific timings for the ingredients I can see it making this a snack staple.
I cried from laughter when he broke the plate. Not for the slapsticks of it all but the sheer look of surprise in his face. And they kept rolling like nothing happened, love this show.
As a Brit, I have never had a scotch egg that didn't have a hardboiled egg in the middle - I think of the runny yolk scotch egg as a weird thing that some fancy restaurants do.
I’m American but yeah, it seems unnecessarily difficult and like a restaurant gimmick. I looooove a runny yolk, but hard boiled has its place too. Some dishes are meant to have hard boiled eggs, even if it’s less photogenic/“click-worthy.” What’s next, runny-yolk egg salad?? Lol that was a joke! No one make runny-yolk egg salad, that sounds like a monstrosity 😂
@@ohrats731 yeah and i think when ppl hear hardboiled they think chalky but I like when the yolk is set but custardy not boiled to death. I've nvr been a fan of the runny yolk. it doesn't do much for me..

Never had Scotch eggs with a soft-boiled center, only hard-boiled. The reason why is that they are often chilled and packed into lunches for later eating. Pubs often have the option of cold or hot, depending if you plan to eat them then or to go.
When Brad said "I wouldn't know... because my only experience. was a lie..." I literally choked on my Tea. A.Mazing. But seriously. What is the utter CHAOS that is this episode??? Such a Roller coaster!
Theory: The Babish kitchen exists within an anomalous bubble where the laws of thermodynamics and/or the passage of time behave differently than they do in the rest of the soft-boiled egg cooking world.
The real lie is the runny egg yolk itself. The traditional Scotch Egg is medium to hard boiled. It should absolutely not be runny. But if you like it runny, just do it that way.
Fr I thought I was wrong that all the scotch eggs I’ve been eating my whole life have been cooked wrong and was so confused why he’s trying so hard to make it runny when it’s not supposed to be 😂😬
@@violetguavapeachee5573 LOL... I'd be into it, I like my yolks runny. But as soon as I saw that cross section, I was like "Sir, the Scottish Government have some things they would like to discuss with you... look, we have no autonomy in Glasgow, at least THIS we can contribute to with authority!"

His last egg was probably a little more runny than I've ever been served one. I like runny yolks but trying to pull that off in a scotch egg just sounds insane culinarily.
Scotch eggs are supposed to be hard-boiled. Also, scotch eggs have nothing to do with Scotland. It comes from scotching, meaning 'to coat' or 'to encase'. They're eggs that have _been scotched,_ not Scottish eggs - similar to German chocolate cake, which is just named after a guy with the surname 'German'.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had an issue with the idea of a sof boiled scotch egg. Also, a proper Scotch egg should be from a PICKED hard boiled egg, coated with celery salt then wrapped with an 80/20 mix of pork breakfast sausage and blood sausage and breaded, then braised before baking.
As Americans, we do not respect the British food traditions, and the world would be a better place if we all united across all nations as one, also not respecting the British food traditions

Andrew and his team have greatly increased the production, the editing, and clearly are having so much fun. Man I love seeing this channel grow and become new haha
I do believe the "six minute" soft boiled egg method starts with the eggs being halfway submerged in cold water and remaining in that water until it comes to a boil, then covered and steam for the requisite six minutes. The slow heat build up helps the whites set evenly without cooking the yolks.

So, I was in a play that used a proper liquor cabinet and called out using cognac, but our bottle was Jack Daniels and an actress called this out as something that the audience would notice. So some of our cast decided we should get a bottle of actual cognac to make sure by the opening we would have the right bottle. I had also informed this same group about the concept of Scotch Eggs for the first time. That night we went to the grocery store, got a bottle of cognac, a pound of sausage, breadcrumbs, and some eggs. The four of us downed a fifth of cognac and fried up some Scotch eggs. I remember holding the bottle so one friend could chug while he fished the egg out of the oil. This is my best Scotch egg experience.

Worst Scotch Egg experience: Waited in a 45 minute line for food at the Renaissance festival to find out they were out of Scotch Eggs. Huge bummer.
My favourite scotch egg was from a deli in Cambridge, can’t remember what it was called but it was a fantastic runny-yolk panko-breaded thing the size of my fist. Least favourite was from a pound shop, I think it gave me food poisoning.

As a Brit, I have never had a scotch egg that didn't have a hardboiled egg in the middle - I think of the runny yolk scotch egg as a weird thing that some fancy restaurants do.

Never had Scotch eggs with a soft-boiled center, only hard-boiled. The reason why is that they are often chilled and packed into lunches for later eating. Pubs often have the option of cold or hot, depending if you plan to eat them then or to go.

@@angelalovell5669 dunno what you’re on about but yeh true
Scotch eggs are supposed to be hard-boiled. Also, scotch eggs have nothing to do with Scotland. It comes from scotching, meaning 'to coat' or 'to encase'. They're eggs that have _been scotched,_ not Scottish eggs - similar to German chocolate cake, which is just named after a guy with the surname 'German'.
As a german: WHAT?!
And canada geese, named after the ornithologist John Canada!
Like how vegetarian burgers aren't made from real vegetarians?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had an issue with the idea of a sof boiled scotch egg. Also, a proper Scotch egg should be from a PICKED hard boiled egg, coated with celery salt then wrapped with an 80/20 mix of pork breakfast sausage and blood sausage and breaded, then braised before baking.

I do believe the "six minute" soft boiled egg method starts with the eggs being halfway submerged in cold water and remaining in that water until it comes to a boil, then covered and steam for the requisite six minutes. The slow heat build up helps the whites set evenly without cooking the yolks.
And also starting with room temperature eggs.
