Your poodles are so well behaved! Our new standard poodle pup was just eight weeks of fluff when he leapt on our senior poodle, who swiped him away with his paw. They're a force to be reckoned with and they rule the house. I wish it was the other way around but it isn't. I love them so much. They sleep on my bed every night - on their backs, paws in the air, snoring. I don't get a wink of sleep because they take up most of the room. They're intuitive, intelligent, picky and a pain in the ..... !

Ohhh, Lucas & Laci are adorable, how's Lucas doing now? I see this was 3yrs ago, I bet he's settled in nicely, I have a 3.5yr old toy poodle and she's my world, I love all dogs/breeds I just hv a special place for poodles they have a unique personality, I've had many dogs and different breeds, poodles are just different not better or worse, different, I read from many people & poodle breeders poodle are hard wired differently than other dogs as well, and it's so true, I find with my little girl toy poodle she's always riping her bed apart, I've tried everything, other than that, she's an Angel 🤷♀️very easy to train, it only took me 20mins to train her with her commands, and only a few weeks to toilet train😍🐩😘🐩😍🐩💚🐩💜🐩Thanks for the upload👏

That meetup was cute.....I had purchased a Standard female a few years back, who is our boy Beau's companion....(Big black male and red/apricot female) when she arrived, I had some concerns about how gentle Beau would be with a new pup (9 weeks old).....when she hit the floor it was full tilt rund and a leap on top of out Beau....they have been inseparable ever since. I have had many German Shepherds and Northern breeds over the years.....but it is only Standards for me now!

Video very sweet and meaningful t me. I had the most adorable gentle lovely black female that was my princess. She was a Standard and her size and from reminds me of Lacy’s, even down to the hair style. Then when she was two I went back to same breeder to just see some new Standard puppies she had! I learned very quickly you can’t just go look at a litter of beautiful Standard Poodle puppies and not have one of them pick you out for his or her forever person! So this beautiful white one at 8 weeks was sitting on my lap and suddenly started smothering me with kisses! I was then his!! I took Fifi ( my beautiful princess Poodle) our to meet him the next day . All of her reserved ladylike manners suddenly went out the window!! She spotted him immediately sitting by breeders leg in a perfect sit and stay and my gurls tail began wagging and she only had eyes for him! He looked breathtaking s he did his whole life!! Fifi was released from the car and he spotted her and the two fell deeply in love with one another for the next 16 years. His name was Zanu and they had one liter together. They both passed away the past 8 months. He died 7 months after her and I knew he was heart broken she was gone. I knew he wouldn’t last long no matter how much love I smothered on him. I had kept two of his sons from their liter and they are both 13 now and both in excellent condition so I try and shower them with love and gratitude daily. I’m happy for you and your two beautiful Poodles. I subscribed to your videos so I hope I can watch the Darling growth of Lucas and the interaction of his life with lovely Lacy.

Just got a standard puppy. She is so hyper it's unreal.
Yup, they are very active dogs. But eventually they do calm down. We have a 10 year old standard and she has slowed down a lot from what she was like as a puppy. Thanks for watching!
Standard Poodle Owner do you have any tips how to stop the puppy biting?
@@AllByMyself230 I recommend that every time the dog nips at you to say NO! or UN-UH sharply and then walk away from the puppy (basically ignore him). He's trying to get your attention and then what he's getting is the opposite. He'll begin to see that it's not working for him. I love Poodles. How much does a female Standard Poodle puppy cost?
There's a wide range in cost for a standard poodle puppy, depending on breeder and bloodlines. I would say generally anywhere between $1000 and $2000. Thanks for watching!
I'm thinking of getting a standard poodle. I do have a miniature. May I ask why it's necessary to have a wire crate for them? I haven't seen people with such in South Africa and would really like to know the pro's of such. I want to do the right thing.
Chloe7 Seven Hi. Thanks for your comment. To answer your question - the crate is very helpful with housebreaking and to ensure your puppy is safe during the times you must be away from home. I put Lucas into the kennel whenever I wasn't able to watch him closely during the time he was being potty trained (He was potty trained within about 2 weeks). Very quickly, dogs come to think of the kennel as their personal space. We never close the kennel door anymore after they are trained. We have 2 standard poodles and they both love and sleep in their kennels most nights of their own accord even though they have the option of sleeping anywhere in the house.

I have been looking for so long for a standard poodle puppy (I do have a miniature - was used to Staffies and showed them, until my sons became interested in girls more :)). But now I want a standard. I wonder if in South Africa we don't have a great "pool" of poodles. MANY MANY toys and mini's available but that standard evades me. Plus there are so many warnings of scams. Thanks again. I'm going to get these things first - like the wire kennel etc and then search again for the pup born for me. Good cheer to you.
Has Lucas been to a vet? The way he walks, he might have a hip dysplasia. I hope I am wrong.
Wow, sorry I missed this comment. Yes, he's been to the vet annually for checkups and all is well. He's actually 4 years old now and no issues with his hips. Thank you for caring enough to ask though. I appreciate that.

Is yours still a puppy? The puppy in this video is now 3 years old. He still has lots of energy, but is no longer hyper. His energy level is very easy to manage with daily activity. Especially if our grandchildren are around to help him burn it off. LOL. Thanks for commenting!

Yes. It is a working dog like a border collie. The more active shows the intelligence. They are rated the smartest dog next to the border collie and some have tested smarter. So with that you have a dog that needs a job. Thats why you see the ‘hyper’. I wished you would have researched the breed so you woukd have known. Please give it to a farm or something. PLEASE DONT KEEP IT KENNELED ALL DAY OR ALONE ALL DAY. THEY DONT DO WELL ALONE. THEY NEED ANOTHER ANIMAL OR PEOPLE. Sorry you didnt know that before. They should have told you

You'll do fine, Jennifer. Your little smarty pants poodle is indeed among the top-I.Q. end of its breed if he's already so hyper-energetic, so you simply have to start training him with tricks, or an outdoor obstacle course, to keep his mind and body occupied. If you're busy working all day, make sure you have some interactive toys around for him to use, or you can leave on a radio, or some dog-videos while you're at work. Talk to him a lot, and ask him questions when you're home. He'll LOVE trying to answer them. He might even "talk" or "sing" with you. Also, make sure he knows you view him as one of the family, so include him in family activities. Spoil him with love. Don't scold a poodle too harshly. Be firm, but loving. They do NOT require harsh scolding or training. This breed works and trains best on the reward and encouragement system. If you're too harsh in scolding them, they feel hurt and rejected, and suspect you don't love them anymore. They love you to pieces, so return the favor, and remember, they're tender-hearted and sensitive. Remember, they have a keen sense of humor too, and might even "prank" you a bit. They love to make you laugh, and will repeat a "gag" if they see it makes you giggle. It's also great to get another poodle to keep them company while you're away at work all day. They will wrestle and chase one another, become best of buddies, and keep each other fit and healthy, too. You will come to love these dogs like no other. They are remarkable, and very like a clever human child.
Wow my standard podle is free to roam the whole apartment no kenels, nothing. At the begining we decidet for him to hawe his own room with big bed but first night we got him home he was craying i say to my self fuck that teaching procedures got him to the beedroom put him near the bed. I notice that he is always around us. If we go from living room to cabinet or balcony wher ever he folovs and is like to be in the commpany.
Thanks for your feedback. I understand your concern, because I agree that a kennel can be used abusively. We only closed the kennel door during the early days of training while we were housebreaking to prevent accidents while Lucas wasn't being monitored. Or if we had to be away for short periods when he was very small for his own safety. Since then, we never close the kennel and our dogs are free to go in or out of their kennels at will. We'd get rid of the kennels entirely but they seem to enjoy having their own private space.

I don't have first-hand experience with Standard Poodles and cats. We are not a cat family. But my sister watches our poodles for us when we've had to travel without them and she has cats. It hasn't been a problem. Maybe ask the breeder what his/her experience has been with placing poodles in homes with cats.

Phoebe James Thanks for your comment :) I hate dogs locked in kennels too. The door is NEVER closed on our kennels. We only kept Lucas closed in his kennel for his own protection at night and when we had to be away the first couple of weeks after he came home. In this video, we told Lacey to stay in her kennel for a while to keep her from pestering her new buddy. But she is absolutely never closed in her kennel either. Both dogs sleep in their kennels by their own choice when they need their space during the day or at night.

Thank you for watching our video and responding. Your concern is warranted because dog kennels are misused by many. We only used a closed kennel for Lucas during the transitional phase from the breeder to our home. And then only when we couldn't watch him closely for his own protection. We didn't want him as a puppy getting into something harmful while we were away from home. He actually wanted to go into the kennel even with the door wide open because it was a safe haven for him when we had small children visiting, etc. We haven't used a kennel for him in a long time (he's now 7). We don't even have a kennel in the house. Thank you for asking!

We only closed him in a kennel as a puppy during the times we were unable to watch him closely (like overnight) for his own safety and to assist in potty training. His kennel is never closed anymore. He loves it and sleeps in it at his own discretion. It's his personal space (den) when he wants to get away to rest.
