Just purchased this! After having an SL550 let me tell you.. this for sure is worth every penny! I am a 5’9” woman and I have plenty of leg room. I love the navigation on this car it’s superior to any other. I initially wanted a Jaguar F Series but after driving this there is literary no comparison!
I made the same decision.... Had a Saturn Sky Redline for 13 years and wanted a new roadster. Looked at the F type for a couple of years and ended up looking at and getting the Z4 M40i... outside of missing a manual transmission, I'm loving the car.
I've got the 2022 M40i. No lag in sport mode. Like any performance car (or my Hayabusa), you start with what you would call the tightest part of the gear, then accelerate. No lag. You're breaking-out the rear end because you're driving it poorly. I drive mine hard, and have never broken the rear end loose. But I know how to drive it. It's not a true M car, as it has the B58 motor, not the S58, so knocking it for that doesnt seem appropriate. Drive it properly, and it kicks ass. I don't use launch control, because i know how to race...and still dont break loose the rear end ;) I passed on the Porsche 911 4S, and their incredible PDK, for the M40i. Just a better purchase. I also passed on the Gallardo, the C8 Vette, Jaguar F-Type R, and the Boxster. The M40i for the price is the smart money. No exception.

Can't wait until you get to demo the stick shift ZR4M40i - that's the one I am considering for a buy to replace a Porsche 911S convertible. They won't be the same car, but after 3 or 4 years, it is time for a new ride.
... and configurable sport personal if you push a third time. Some people who's vehicle lack the button to turn off the "auto engine stop" at lights configure it for a version of "comfort" mode that stays running at stop lights.
Andy, try pressing the buttons on the left stalk to change center display. Also, the performance ( blue ) brakes have been around for several years. They are effective on my X5 but do require more pedal pressure. They are not like Porsche Boxter brakes, nor are they intended to be. These brakes are covered in separated videos dedicated to these brake systems. Nice review. We just purchased a Z4 M40i. I
Thanks for doing such a thorough review of this car. I've been looking for 4+ years to possibly replace my 2006 SLK350 that I have owned for 13 years, and this one is one of the only 2 cars that I will accept. The 718 Boxster is the other one, but it is way more expensive.
This car is way faster 0-60 than the 718 Boxster and still quite faster than the 718 Boxster S. It is also more of a GT car compared to the Boxster so think about speed + a bit of a touring combo if that fits what you're looking for.
@@leonardoluc6362 This BMW is not really a front engine, it is way pulled to the back. It creates a one unit w/ the driver for a perfect 50/50 balance turns and dynamics up to 240 km/h are incredible, it just differs where you put the driver in.
I've had my 2020 Z4 m40i for 10 months and continue to love it. I was looking at either a 6cyl 718 (couldn't even find one) or M3. But when I tried this little thing out, I was sold. It was the most exhilarating test drive I'd ever taken. Top down, of course, every ride except during rain or < 40°F. Maybe one day I'll get bored and greedy and need more but that has yet to occur.

It’s priced much better than a Boxster. For $70k you have a really loaded six cylinder luxury model whereas you’d only have a four cylinder minimally optioned Porsche Boxster for $70k unless you got the $90k GTS 4.0 Boxster. To get features like this in GTS you’d have to spend over $100k! This car is a good deal. Only $63k base price for a six cylinder well equipped luxury roadster !
@@s.c.1972 - now with the added market adjust y dealers it’s much worse. The best deals may be the new manual Nissan Z or Supra … but markups may kill those too. I just got a Premium Plus Mazda 3 Hatchback for MSRP-$38 out the door. Good value and fun to drive. Compromised!
@@rembo183 you are right about markups. Porsche dealers are marking up everting - my local dealer adds a $20-40k markup on any 911 depending on what trim. Some cars are still selling at MSRP….
Owners of any Euro car should have the brains to understand the concept of parking lights lol. They’re very useful if parking on a tight street / driveway / corner. I use mine about once a month. Not to mention the rear fog light, which can literally be a lifesaver in a small sports car. Again I use mine in heavy fog.
Please comment of soft top care as I am considering this model after having a Mercedes slk to tje ;ast slc hard top roadster model for the last twenty years but they discontinued this option. I understand the reason Mercedes had done this, but does these soft tops need to be hand washed as opposed to brushless care wash? Are you comfortable leaving it at an airport parking lot for a week?
Is the front grill open/ functioning or fake plastic? I dislike fake front grills that simply cosmetic. Excellent review. This seems to be the best alternative to a expensive Porsche Boxster, in the luxury roadster category.
I observed when he held the fob button to raise the roof that windows did not automatically go back up. This was performed as not to have to return to the car to raise the roof. So windows auto came down and roof let down. The opposite only raised the roof. Yes I am interested in one of these cars. So I will assume the windows are to come up and doors lock with the raising of roof remotely?
Turbo lag? Nah, fam. Gotta put the engine where it wants to be. If you're launching, launch it. When you're moving, make sure that sucker is in the right gear. Lag disappears.
@@mavadelic Because of an emission particulate filter required in Europe, your car has less power. Funny, it is usually the US cars that have less. Just not this time
This car is very feminine looking compared to previous models. Ive owned the previous z4 and really wanted to buy this z4 "M"40i, but can't get past the feminine front and how it's no longer a hard top. Its significantly larger than its predecessor, but BMW couldn't work a hard top in because the chassis needs to be shared with the supra. Very rare now to find a new convertible hard top.
Reasons for new designs : • Flatter , softer front ends are EU standard . Non- Lethal pedestrian friendly auto laws . • Cars with larger grills are popular designs in the China market. All new cars look like Rats ! It’s not a “convertible”. It’s a Roadster. Therefore it’s a “Bonnet “. Not a hood.

go to idrive you can change whatever you want. you can change kmh or mph, same as nm or ft lb for torque. and c vs f temperature etc.

Is the steering electric or hydraulic and does it have power titlting function?

Is the $10k+ difference between the M30 vs M40 worth it ?? I understand it’s more hp/torque/faster but what else do u get for the $ ?
It’s not for most people. 4cylinder turbo still will beat most cars in the road amd is more quite.
I'm 6ft3 and renting one for a vacation I'm going on. Am I gonna feel cramped on leg and head space? Great review btw.
