I flew this exact route in July in seat 1A as well. Also used 107700 Qantas points plus $103 aud. 1st of all, great video once again btw very informative. 1. Agree that the bed is Incredible!, it is so comfy, best bed in the sky I've been in. 2. Tried caviar for the first time on this flight and almost threw up trying it, it was disgusting to me haha, no idea how people like it! 3. Had two meal services on this flight, had the steak both times which was delicious and had the chocolate cake twice as well, they do meals very well. 4. kinda agree on the point about first class is a statement piece and great for brand image too, but if business class price comes down and I can fly business more, I'm fine with it haha 5. One other thing i loved about this particular flight, was the cabin crew to passenger ratio, my flight had 2 cabin crew for 2 passengers in first class, felt like a private butler
unfortunately ibis is the way to go in the world of sg prices, i've also done nyc hostel prior to J flights... great video again, glad to see you growing at an ever-accelerating speed!
When flying first/business class commercially, most wealthy people tend to just drink water and sleep throughout the flight as it is nothing special for them. It's the newly rich who are flying anything but economy for the first time who tend to try as much food and drink on board as they can and collect amenity kits/pajamas for the fear of losing out.
Not to be that guy (but I will) - but when we flew first on Emirates via Singapore, we did take advantage of the Qantas First Class lounge in Singapore which is far and away much nicer than the Emirates Lounge at Changi. Anyway another great video man!
I do agree with you. Airlines are making a big mistake removing first class entirely. They’re not marketing it right. For example Airlines like Thai Airways, Malaysian Airlines & Garuda Indonesia had fantastic first class product in the past. They haven’t updated ever since and kept offering 8 First Class Seats on a 777. They couldn’t fill 8 seats and haven’t even updated and decided to just call it a day. Air France and SQ made a smart decision offering only 4 first class on their 777s. SQ also offers only 6 on a380s. Quite plausible to fill up when they’re flying to other business hubs like London and Sydney. That’s where the market I believe is headed. Small portions of First Class passengers but not dying entirely. Lufthansa is making the best decision configuring only 3 first class seats on their a350s and on the a350s for Swiss. Which I believe to be adequate. Any Airlines being based on a business hub should consider offering some sort of First Class.
Flying from JFK to MXP in a few months while heading to EU, the EK business redemption tax is about a $100 Aussie which is reasonable. I was gonna do a quick 3h run to CHC to try their biz on A380 but it's not enough time to fully indulge. God bless 5th freedom flights!
Great video Simon, just to note the refurb program is well underway for the a380s with more modern / less gaudy! finishes, the 777 program recently commenced as well I believe they are updating the tech in those seats but not 100% sure. Your flight would have had the circa 2008 OnAir WiFi and abysmal USB power. I did not know the trick re airport fees, that's very helpful to know.
What a great review. Thanks for sharing. Just booked our 4th BC trip to Europe on Emirates. Im a Emirates girl. Not a fan of Qatar or Eithad. Cant wait. As a fellow Aussie, we fly from Perth up to Singapore on points if we can get BC seats, or just buy economy seats. Then buy our return BC flights from there. Less than half the price than BC out of Aus. Makes BC affordable. There is a hack for those Aussies who would love to try BC long haul without the ridiculous prices out of Aus. Your so right about the taxes on Emirates. $2600 return plus your points. Thats why we keep our points. Calories in the basket would have to be pushing over 800 cals lol I have my fingers crossed flying back from Athens, checkin will notice it will be my hubbys 60th birthday the day we fly. Hope we may be lucky, or atleast just hubby gets upgraded to 1st. You never know your luck. But i would never ask. Just crass. Caz

Ok...here is a question. How many of those seats in first were empty on your flight? My guess is there there were more than a couple. If they don't sell those seats, they lose a lot of money because they probably could probably fit more business seats in that space that they could sell. If you can afford to pay full fare FC, you can fly private jet for about the same cost, so FC just doesn't make sense. Also, the highest margins for seats sold on a plane are the BC seats for the space they occupy.
Not weird to her changed in there with the doors closed. I do it often because changing in the toilet always grosses me out - even in first class. I also sleep shirtless.

I wonder if they may be removing it because metrics indicate the space in these planes is less utilised than would be in a business class configuration? There are few people actually willing to shell out for the service and the more first is differentiated, the more space is often used to justify it. At the moment, the best example of this us etihad;they can afford a premium experience in their residence offering but if you factor in this is provided by an oil rich family, ordinary airlines would not be able to justify taking that hit when it's empty in favour of safer maximised profits. Also, in addition to many rich having their own planes, many hire private aircraft. Some airlines like Qatar also have corporate jets which suggests they prefer to move any first class product to those smaller premium jets.

I've pondered this question and asked many flight and points and miles enthusiasts. "Millionaires fly first class" is not really an accurate statement. Ask yourself at what net worth would you feel comfortable paying $10,000 to $15,000 for a first class flight without thinking much of it? The answer my friends came up with was a net worth of at least 20 million dollars. Most millionaires are under this net worth and would not be paying cash for first class flights. Due to the devaluation of the dollar i think the more accurate statement is that "millionaires fly business class" I'm in the $5-10M NW range myself and i barely feel comfortable paying cash for business class flights.
Qatar airways JUST started offering caviar on their Business class, i flew Qatar to Singapore recently and was able to enjoy this myself. So even business class is being elevated lately.
I really feel like first class these days is made for marketing through youtubers, reserved as upgrades for loyal frequent flyers and of course spending all your points on. I wonder how many people there are that actually pay cold hard cash for the first class experience these days for regular travel? The most important thing on a long haul flight really is that lie flat bed and maybe expedited check in/security which is why business class is slowly taking over and First class may be relegated to past much like the "golden age" of flight travel. Doubtful many people watching will even have a chance to experience such level of service in their life unless they are sitting on a ton of frequent flyer points.

A couple of years back I was lucky to book Paris to Perth for 159k Qantas points (i think around 8c/point value) and the seat next to me was occupied by Rod Stewart lol. Emirates first also gives you access to Qantas first/ business lounges in Singapore. You missed out! They’re both better than the emirates lounge there.
