Going to a Coldplay concert in Singapore before your friend gets to go in Melbourne is an absolute dick move that I myself would do in a heartbeat. My kind of guy 😂❤
The key point here is whenever you have done a flight change needing a re-issue of your eticket, make sure you receive the new eticket. If you don't receive the eticket there's time to follow it up with the airline, rather than finding out the day prior or at the airport.
@flightformula Simon, one thing I have learned being in the travel booking side of the travel industry, whenever you cancel the first flight, it is expected that that the system will cancel all “down line” segments. If you start by telling them you want to keep those and verify it as you go on the service call, you can usually keep those intact…if you ever need any questions answered, please let me know to help you.
Glad to see you made it to SG. For reference and future rewards bookings - Anytime a booking is changed for ANY reason, the ticket needs to be reissued. This is particularly important for OW partners like MH, CX and UL (even AY and JL) who can and will cancel the ticket if its not reticketed within 12-24hours. There's even a whole email at QF setup for it. One of things I do anytime I touch an award flight is to make sure they understand it needs to be retiecketed immediately and if not within 12h, I'm calling them again.
Loved watching this! QANTAS did a similar thing to me too, was flying AKL-SYD on LATAM and then SYD-PER QANTAS, I got a text at 2am the night of the flight saying that I had been bumped out of Business on the SYD-PER leg so once I was checked-in for the LATAM flight to Sydney and in the lounge I spent an hour on the phone with QANTAS looking at other options to get to Perth and stay in Business, eventually got rebooked via Melbourne, got an e-ticket, flights were showing on the app. When checking in for the new flights at the domestic transfer area they said that our new booking had been cancelled and we were put back on the Economy flight, we also had no booking reference either despite the flights via Melbourne still showing in the app. After another hour looking at options and the poor lady spending ages trying to get ahold of the ticketing office we managed to get back on the original flights via Melbourne with an hour before the flight. Very stressful! That check-in lady was absolutely fantastic.
'Deleted' a ticket is a strange expression. Obviously a ticket cannot be 'deleted'. A reservation for a specific flight can be cancelled. However, you can't just not use the first sector of a ticket. The fact that this was a reward ticket complicates matters, but if it was a paid ticket changing the country of origin of the ticket will change the currency in which the fare is assessed. The fare for the entire journey would have been assessed in HKD. In these days of e-tickets where you don't usually get to see the actual e-ticket, the fare construction information and the fare boxes etc these things are less clear than in the past in the days of manual tickets. What surprises me though is that there was no apparent discussion concerning the refund of the first flight. It is difficult to accept that the agent would simply have cancelled off this sector without any mention of a fare adjustment following reissue of the ticket for a journey commencing in Sri Lanka rather than Hong Kong or discussion of any refund due in respect of the first sector. I am curious as to what you expected to happen in respect of the points redeemed for the first sector. Did you intend simply to loose the points redeemed for this sector or ?. In view of the claim that the ticket was deleted, I am actually wondering if any ticket was actually issued in the first place. Were the points for this ticket ever actually deducted from your account or was this simply a reservation which lapsed as it was never ticketed?
I really enjoy your content! Can see you blowing up withe the algo picks up on it. I find the use of the memes or soundbites a little too dense in frequency across your videos however, sometimes - when you're just talking over some facts where there isn't any broll they're great, but sometimes the timing or how many of them is off and it feels forced. Only my 2c! Love the content and will keep watching eitherway!!!!
As someone who has booked a couple 'round the world' oneworld award trips with qantas in business..... always check your booking using the 'check my trip app' or by using the RJ or MH manage my booking to confirm you still have an e-ticket number. The qantas app is useless at showing accurate info. My guess is the operator didnt cancel the CMB>SIN flight, but they would have cancelled the first one, and then didnt reticket the booking (happened a lot with me and qantas). You have to make sure theres an e-ticket number, and if not, start calling them to ticket it. They'll refuse at first if it's 48h+ away, but MH and QR will often only give qantas a 24-48h window before they cancel the booking if it's not reticketed, so keep calling back and demanding it.
Nice one Simon ... particularly liked that cut you did to the notes on climb and approach. 👌 One of the good things about being a TH-camr, is that when things go wrong on a trip, it generally makes for a better video (a silver lining, I guess).

Mate I had the exact same problem!! Qantas reward booking on Sri Lankan Singapore to Doha via Colombo in 2022 for the FIFA world cup. Sri Lankan had rescheduled the first leg, but they cancelled the ENTIRE booking just like you!! By the time I'd realised a month later there were no remaining reward seats on the Colombo to Doha leg!! How was I gonna get to the World Cup?? I took Qantas all the way to NCAT and they were found responsible. I had them fully reimburse my Singapore to Doha direct flight which cost me thousands of $$$. No way I was gonna miss the World Cup!!
The KEY POINY is be careful when taking advice from folks on You Tube, many have very little knowledge of airlines rules and even less care. Always read the rules and conditions and at least be aware of how multi leg flights work, and as far as this young man is concerned let us just say he is a lucky man.
As a now retired person with a long airline ticketing and business travel background, I agree with you. Another point I would like to make is since the introduction of e-tickets passengers don't get to see the actual e-ticket only the itinerary style presentation of the information in the app or printout. A lot of younger people probably have no real idea of what a physical ticket actually looks like or actually is and that the equivalent of the old physical ticket complete with flight coupons and fare construction information actually still exists in electronic form. Many believe that the itinerary style printout of their booking or even their boarding card is their ticket and have no idea, or a totally incorrect idea, of how payment is claimed by one airline in respect of a passenger that they have transported holding the ticket of another airline. The ticket is the document now existing in electronic form only with a 13 (or 14 if you include a check digit) number starting with the three digit numerical code for whatever airline has issued the ticket, 081 for QF, 125 for BA etc. The ticket is made up of one or more flight coupons, one for each flight. A separate flight coupon is needed for each change of flight number in the course of a journey (transfer connection), each break of journey (stopover) or in the unlikely event that a passenger is booked to travel in different classes of service over different sectors during the course of a through flight. The electronic flight coupon is detached from the electronic ticket electronically at check-in and is retained by the transporting airline to claim the payment from the ticketing airline through the IATA clearing house. The transporting airline is not paid in advance and if the passenger is a no-show, they don't get paid. The payment is retained by the ticketing airline until such time that it is claimed by the transporting airline justified by a used electronic flight coupon.
@@Doug-ux4yr Yes. In addition to having a very wide general understanding and knowledge of many areas of airline matters, I was an expert in every aspect of reservations, ticketing and fare construction including the ability to calculate a fare (and issue a handwritten manual ticket) for the most complex journey that you could possibly imagine without the aid of a computer using the tariff manuals and a calculator.
Mate I had the EXACT same issue!! Qantas reward booking Singapore to Doha via Colombo for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Sri Lankan Airlines had rescheduled the first leg so I called back to rebook. I’ve had a very similar thing happen when requesting one change to a qantas flight and they canceled the whole booking. Fixing it was a nightmare and took hours of my life I’ll never get back. I never got the equivalent in money or points. At the time I still had platinum status. So they really don’t give a shit.
Lmao now I think I understand why Finnair agents always force me to double check the itinerary from my end when making booking changes Whereas Qatar would just casually delete my return leg when rebooking me on the outbound one

I know it's super duper en vogue to bitch about Qantas in Australia nowadays but mate you fucked this one up yourself. You tried to trick them to get a booking, then cancelled the part you know was necessary to get the Colombo originating flight. A bit of self reflection would do some good so this doesn't happen to you again. Could Qantas have handled the notification better? Sure. But it was your way of booking and rebooking that got it cancelled.
Tend to agree. the minute he explained the original booking it was obvious that would be the issue. That said the operators at QF call centres are generally just insanely bad. And then QF comes to the rescue with the cheap MH KUL-SIN ticket.
Use your ears next time bud, I clearly wasn’t trying to trick them, and in terms of self reflection? Yeah well, I make it pretty clear at the end that this was more a lesson learnt thing more than anything else. Anyway let the Alan Joyce fan club know I say hi.
