It's the tightest 777 economy seat I've ever sat in and the (quite long) flight was extremely unpleasant as a result. Really made me wonder why everyone was so raving about them. The A380 was 10 times more comfortable.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Well I think you hit the nail on the head there- I'm not sure anyone raves about the 777... For years Emirates has been gliding on their A380 and more recently 777 FIrst class marketing.

100% agree with this.. I flew 777 economy with Emirates about 9 years ago and the only thing I remember about it is how small and uncomfortable the seat was. It has forever left this bad impression of Emirates, as if they are just trading on their first class product.

9:56 Emirates already installed 3-4-3 layout all the way back in 1996 when they first received the 777-200s. Back then, majority of airliners offered 3-3-3 or 2-5-2 in the same aircraft, but sure Emirates weren't afraid of making the seats so tight!

    • @tfft

Very true, but people have a short memory, Hiro ! Qatar installed 3-4-3 in 2015, Etihad in 2009, Alitalia & KLM in 2008, Air France had 3 aircraft with 9-abreast before switching in 2005 to 3-4-3, and SWISS & Emirates always had them. It wasn't Cathay Pacific to start this trend but the low-IQ mass will always forget things and twist the truth.

EK 777 is a very consistent product. It's the exact same as what I experienced 10 years ago, down to the same food. The legroom is still that bad, the only way I managed to get by the two times I rode on EK 777-300ER was that the whole row happened to be empty. I have no idea how people make it through the long haul with that little legroom.

Kevin having flown in multiple 777 economy from multiple airlines I have never seen a 777 not having 3-4-3 configuration. I do think that older 777s on emirates are not as pleasant as the newer 777s but I do absolutely love to be able to have working power outlets on every single plane. Apart from few Asian airlines I don’t think any 777 seat configuration is much different.

I flew with them last month, 3 out of 4 sectors I got planes equipped with IFE older than the one you got, with one of them coming out from the 2000s. Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that, with how much they take pride of their state of the art IFE. The crew are hit or miss, I got one who is really nice and one who woke me up by slamming my window blind shut on the same flight. Meals are pretty good but the service is kinda slow.
All in all I wouldn’t fly economy with them again if I have the option, except if I’m sure that all of the sectors I’m flying with them are with the A380 or hopefully the A350. I honestly got whiplash when I hopped out from the 777 to the A380, the difference is night and day 😂.

We’re flying DXB to DEL in December. At 6’ 7” I’m glad I paid for extra legroom seats. For two of us in economy it was over a $1000 in seat fees for round trip travel from YYZ. There are times when I’ve been unable to lower myself into the seats if I don’t manage to get extra legroom. At least these days you can book in advance even if it costs a lot. In the old days I’d turn up three hours early and have even been known to cry when they said no!

I really liked my 2hr Emirates 777 flight to Delhi after a 14.5hr flight from Vancouver. As a somewhat shorter person, I wasn't bothered by the seat tightness, and was moreso enamored with the gigantic IFE screens and the wonderful (vegan for me!) breakfast. It was definitely a full flight and I had trouble finding space for my overhead bag though the FAs were incredibly kind in helping find a space for it. Would definitely fly them again...but also hoping to fly direct YVR to DEL on either a new Air India plane or with AC again sometime soon.

I’d have to do a long haul flight on one to see if I have the same sentiment. Even with 3-3-3 config, I don’t find the seats any wider, just that I can squeeze past a flight attendant with the cart in the aisle.

@@keisuke5468SQ’s A380s now have similar Recaro economy seats to the newest A350s they have and their regional A350s and 787s. I don’t think you’d be terribly happy with that. The seat back is black plastic that seem to make the whole cabin feel very tight. They previously had light-coloured seat backs, which do a lot to brighten the cabin and make it feel more airy. Also, these new seats are THICK, great for back support, not so great for legroom and the IFE screen is literally in your face before the passenger in front reclines. Just a very tight-feeling space all round. I honestly prefer Emirates seat as they look to be using a modern SAFRAN model, that I encounter on Asiana Airlines, much more space and still comfortable enough.

Had a similar experience myself when I flew Emirates economy class from Cape Town to Delhi via Dubai last year, with both legs on B777s.
Cape Town - Dubai was a fairly comfortable flight for its near 10 hours, but that’s largely because I had an aisle access and a vacant neighbour seat, and the crew served atleast 50% more calories per meal than any other airline I’ve flown till date. But the cabin was a bit dated - probably due for a refurb - and the crew was a bit curt (though not impolite).
Transiting in Dubai was unpleasant. The terminal was awfully crowded, toilets were dirty, and all the shopping and dining choices felt squarely aimed at squeezing the most amount of money out of you. I probably had my most expensive cup of Cafe Nero here. Honestly glad to have left, and couldn’t understand what the hype about the airport was all about - perhaps only if you’re flying at the front end of the aircraft.
Dubai - Delhi was very similar to your Lahore experience. With a packed flight, the tight seat was woefully apparent, and even at the short flying time of under 4 hours, I felt very cramped when I finally deplaned - and I’m not even a very tall or big fellow. However, the food service was excellent, the crew was very warm (they were even taking Polaroid snaps of all children flying onboard and handing them out with a goodie bag - haven’t seen that happening in a long time, and I was honestly feeling jealous!), and the aircraft legitimately had the CRISPEST IFE screens (both seat-back and on the hand-held consoles) I’ve ever seen.
Looking forward to your videos from Pakistan! As I’m Indian, I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to visit the country, so always glad to get a chance to live vicariously through others’ experiences :)

I flew a 25hr routing between DC and CPT on Emirates on both the A380 and the 777. I actually liked the 777 more. Now don't get me wrong, not having maybe 10+ brats running around the cabin and kicking your chair for 14.5 hrs helped, but it just felt larger and more airy. Now, here is what I think the situation is, and peoppe need to remember this. Aircraft manufacturers don't choose layouts, airlines do. Boeing had repeatedly stated airlines can get a cabin with whatever config they want and it can fit 18" 10 abreast. The difference is, and I think it was Qatar who got into a fight with Airbus about this, Airbus won't sell seats less that 18" wide on the A380 and A350. There is also a performance reason for this as Airbus aircraft don't have the performance of their Boeing counterparts. Now I don't fly Emirates enough to care, but it is my understanding Emirates generally has two configurations for the 777-300ER, a regional version and a long haul, and the long haul has wider seats and is more comfortable. I think that's what they told me when I interviewed there a decade ago I just realized. Also, Emirates is partially funded by Dubai real-estate, just a fun fact.

As someone who's travelled on the 777, 787 and A380 as well as A320 (or 321), by FAR, Airbus has much more comfortable seats.
As for any flight to the subcontinent... lol. This is the worst flight of my travel itinerary (because of the passengers) and I wholeheartedly feel sorry for the cabin crew. It's not a "je ne sais quoi" - it's just that the passengers can be quite a bit of a challenge (as a fellow passenger myself, and someone who lives in the region). But once you're on a flight that does not land/originate from the subcontinent, there's a MASSIVE difference (in a good way).

Oil security is the bed rock of Emirates, which no one talks about. Apart from all their good business practices, they have sovereign assurance of fuel at cheap prices. This is why they do not worry about buying 4 engine jets even today. In fact, they want Airbus to continue production of A380 with newer engines. But the A380 is not a commercially viable airplane for Airbus.

I personally hate the emirates economy. Especially with how strictly the enforce the paid seats for bulkheads and exits. I was welcomed on board by the cabin manager for my platinum status with Qantas and they asked if I need anything, I asked if I could move to the completely empty bulkhead and they replied with only if I pay the $90USD upgrade fee for a 6 hour flight. The bulkhead really is not much better either, I just didn't want to be crammed next to everyone.

I totally agree about Economy class amenities like pillows and blankets. There’s no place to stash that stuff when you have carryons to consider. I end up grumbling about the flight before it even gets off the ground! 12 hours into a 14 hour flight, I see pillows strewn across the plane. My only reservation from yelling out “Yesss!” to this video is the lack of much history of Econ Class reviews on your page. Do you have other products or sources to use for comparison if you are featuring mostly Business or First Class flights?

And with UAE on the boycott list for supporting genocide in Sudan and Congo, i want to see what alternative airlines one can take for taking you to a hub of an airline like Qatar without having to pay the ridiculous "flying tax" govt of Pakistan has implemented. Last time I flew business to pakistan, about $1400, yes 1400 dollars was just the "tax" going to the pakistani govt.
