Somthing everyone misses: Bismuth said she made that sword for it to NEVER shadder a gem, only the physical form
I'm surprised no one ever remembers this small, but absolutely crucial detail. As soon as Blue said "You shattered her with a sword" I was like "Wait what? That can't be"
And this was why Rose was against the Breaking Point. Because Bismuth would be killing her family. And she didn’t want that.
@@unforeseeable2.058and also it’s push her to have to reveal herself as pink which could have had worse consequences
are u single?
yeah and there was also a recap promo before this episode aired, and it showed this exact scene.
After months of waiting we have finally reached *the* major episode, which is also my favorite
My favourite is Now We're Only Falling Apart
Let me tell Y'all. This theory tore up the Fandom. The rose Quarts is pink diamond is the R+L=J of Steven Universe, and started as early as the first visit to the colliseum when we first saw the Diamond Authority symbol. I firmly believed it during the trial when Blue said that pink was killed by a sword (the sword was designed to poof not shatter.)
very true. bismuth's episode was all about the fact that she would never use the breaking point, and only use the sword to not shatter
This was the only reason I kept up with steven universe from afar (tumblr), I was still so shocked about that one gravity falls theory ending up true that i was hoping for su to do the same xD only started watching it after the ep aired
Fun fact: if you rewatch the show you're going to discover that every time that someone talked about pinks shattering, Pearl just put her hand on her mouth, as the memory of Pink ordering her to never speak of it again, it's amazing discovering from how soon this was implied in season 1
Pearl putting her hand over her mouth isn't simply her remembering, Pink Diamond giving her an order made her physically incapable of uttering a single thing about it. The hand moving to her mouth is outside of her control.
It also happens in at least two other cases were pink diamond wasn't mentioned, but telling the truth was a way to save steven, one of those times is the S4 finale, when steven is givin himself up to Aquamarine to be taken to homeworld and be punished, when on water with the rest, pearl covers her mouth. At first one could take that as a gesture to react to the situation, but i don't think so.
@@keitarosempai9594 I absolutely agree that when Steven was surrendering to Aquamarine, Pearl was desperate to tell Steven the truth to try and stop the situation, but she couldn't.
At first I thought the idea of pink diamond had pearl feel sick to almost throw up 😅
@@emilyprice178 I'm calling BS on that, because Pink isn't around anymore for her to keep following that order. Besides, she tried to ignore it when she tried to remove Stevens gem, which would reveal the pointy bit and expose Rose as Pink.
you can go back and see all the times pearl covers her mouth like this, it's Such an important detail!
subtle in others but in this episode it is very highlighted
This was a massive fan theory that started as early as season 2 while it was first airing, I remember not believing it until I saw someone point out the coloration during Steven's song in Mr. Greg, Greg and Pearl were shaded blue & yellow while steven was pink. Everything from this point on happens super quickly so yall need to strap in!
Also in Mr. Greg when the camera pans up to the sky at the end of "It's over isn't it" the brightest star in the sky is a blinking pink diamond shape
OK SO NOW I FEEL IT IS A GREAT TIME TO POINT OUT. Throughout the entire series, whenever something important happens or pearl is talking to steven or upset you see her covering her mouth more than often.
fandom during even as early as Season 2: Rose is Pink Diamond!!
Crewniverse: Nah, because Eyeball Ruby confirmed that Rose herself shattered Pink Diamond
fandom: oh.. okay..
Crewniverse: :)
fandom after watching A Single Pale Rose: SON OF A--
even ian jones(one of the animators) twitted saying '''she is a rose QUARTZ'' just to cooldown the fandom
Also Fandom to Pearl after the reveal: "I F%#king knew it you piece of S@$t!"
I always felt it had to be Pearl who shattered Pink, specifically because Rose's sword was made to poof gems, not shatter them, and Pearl absolutely would murder a Diamond for her love of Rose. But I absolutely did not see Rose *was* Pink. This reveal is why I implore people to *never* google the show, not even IMBD, because they'll be spoiled a *five season arc* if they even read the character list. This episode was *everything*.
*[THE BIG REVEAL! IT'S FINALLY HERE!]*
How did you take it when Steven told you did you care that much
This is such a spicy episode I think we’ve all been waiting for 😮, this really expanded the lore of the show.
By revealing that their whole life was a lie, and also a waste of their time.
@@josephreinerth9152not really. even though it's a lie, pink actually wanna live as a normal gem and live alongside humans. Her resolve solidified by making steven (half human half gem) possible.
@@ezzyshian Then why did she need to remain looking like a rose quartz when everyone on homeworld thought she was dead, so there was no reason to remain shape-shifted.
@@josephreinerth9152 bcs she (possibly) hates being a diamond. It only reminds her of constant abuse she got from other diamonds, her abusing others, and how she can't do anything freely.
All of her realizations of how earth is special and found beauty in it is when she walked first among the quartz as Rose. She could make a rebellion and in turn, crystal gems, by becoming rose quartz. She also won't have the same authority as a rose quartz then a diamond bcs noone can oppose their diamond and thus she can befriend the gems more easily.
There's way more positive when she is a rose quartz than a diamond and its the best what i can expect her to do, knowing her being a gem which supposedly always go with their own predetermined purpose.
And this is THE episode that made half the community happy because they were right and the other one furious because this story has holes in it. I love that revelation because it was planed, the hints are everywhere if you look at it. And it's amazing to see that the leader of the crystal gems was a diamond who tricked everyone and never bother to clean up her mess. More in the next episode but it explains a lot about Pearl's behavior and feelings. No wonder she would be mad that Rose lied to her about Lion, amonf other things. She was the closest person to her, the one who had to deal with everything for her sake, before being left behind. Was Pink Diamond a bad person ? I don't think so. Classic trop of a person with privileges feeling traped and destroying the world to get their freedom, lying to people and never taking responsabilities for it. Yet, we saw how Rose turned out to be and she grew up with the years. I kinda love this idea of watching her development in reverse, but it left a bad impression because we've seen the worst last instead how taking steps to rethink the whole thing. We know what was lost because of her decision, and the pain she caused other, even her fellow diamonds. Blue can't get over her grief after 5.000 years and Yellow is pretending she's not hurt. If anything, she's just a very human person with flaws and past mistakes, instead of this perfect leader we were meant to miss at the beggining of the series. Steven Universe might not be perfect but I love it for moments like that.
This episode is what solidified Pearl as my favorite Steven Universe character, she’s so complex and well written! I recommend rewatching the show on your free time and paying attention to everything Pearl does throughout the series and how much of her behavior relates to this specific part of her past.
In the scene where she sings “It’s over isn’t it” she sings the word “reinvention” while she stares at a rose and I think it’s an amazing detail.
Even just reading "a single pal rose" in the title made my spine shudder
Every single time Pearl has covered her mouth in the series was PDs final order being forced upon her. My favorite instances of this were at the moon base when she started shaking, and during the first episode of the gregnapped arc when Steven asks abt the book and Garnet mistakes Pearl's Curse as her just being upset.
To me the most heartbreaking one is back in that fourth season finale. The moment where Steven willingly accepts to be taken by Homeworld for declaring himself as Rose Quartz. Just the way Pearl lets that very quiet "Steven" regardless of her covering her mouth and she just... sees him being taking away, knowing how this was all so wrong :(
@TragicSun Oh yeah, that one Guts me. This plot point reveal was So Good imho.
This can be traced all the way back to season 1 and why Rose/Steven had so many tools and was so powerful. Pearl was programmed to not be able to tell, she WANTED to but was phisically unable to because she's a Pearl, and Pearls follow orders from their masters without question.
"Soon It will be JUST Rose"🌹
Oh my gods, here we go!!!
I was so hyped to see this! Your reaction to this was one I long wished to see! The shocking reveal not even the Sapphires saw coming as someone wise once stated in his comment.
One of the things I love about this reveal is that there's so much foreshadowing if you know how to look for it. Like, obviously there's the hand-over-the-mouth thing, but also Pearl's distaste for shapeshifting. The last time she did it was to shatter her Diamond (even if it was pretend), so shifting would make her think of that time again.
I’m really glad y’all don’t hate on lapis for being scared and leaving. So many people hate her just for acting realistically traumatized after she just experienced major trauma for thousands of years.
4:39 "You could drop the barn on the beach"
Lapis like 2 episodes later: "bet"
"I wanted to tell you for so long"
Dam... her secret is strong, but that promise is stronger.
It's so... impressive, yet heartbreaking.
She wanted to tell him, but can't unless they know it too.
...wow.
That is why Pearl doesn't like shape-shifting 🌺
8:41 that’s how Pearl got around the order, a literal gag order from Pink. Just a simple request to retrieve A item, and along the way Steven learns the reason why there’s a gag order in the first place…
I was so hyped for this video! I’m so happy you finally watched this one!
seeing the "debunked joke theory" become true before the fandom's eyes was incredible.
I started watching your SU reaction series a few days ago. When I heard you theorizing about Rose being Pink in a season 3 episode I couldn't wait for this part. Great vid, great reactions! Keep it up
as far as art and animation go, "Can't Go Back" is one of my favorite episodes as it's so consistent in its direction.
There we are ❤ we have many shades of pink here
Was refreshing the page 😂
I remember watching this episode for the first time and being so gagged that rose was pink diamond. It just didn’t make sense with how their gems were shaped even memes came out talking about the logic issues of that but wow it was truly a gag.
Congratulations guys, you were indeed correct👌! and I don’t even know what to add here because there’s just so SO MUCH we could discuss here. Just the entire series itself! It’s fun to rewatch Steven Universe because you may notice new details right from episode 1. I highly recommend rewatching “Rose’s Scabbard” because it really aged like wine.
I’m going to leave the craziness of the plot twist to talk a little bit about Pearl, since this episode is focused on her perspective. According to the crew, a Pearl is biologically incapable of disobeying their master’s orders… Which if you think about it, isn't it devastating? I don’t think Pink made it with any real malice, but it’s possible that she might have sabotaged any chance for Pearl and Rose to have the communication that they needed, both for their bond and themselves to heal as individuals.
The moment Pearl ended up with Pink Diamond was inherently catastrophic. Not only because the ugliest phase of the war began, but because Pearl "shattered" the person she was literally made for. It went against every part of her programming, and it probably hurt psychologically way more than she was willing to admit. Pearl's feelings of guilt are often overlooked "why did I do it?" In the end everything resulted in war, corruption and destruction of gems… Feeling responsible while lying to everyone, left simply unable to communicate and properly deal with her own emotions, and not knowing how to ended up with Pearl having a huge mental fog, by disguising her own chaos with a real need of control.
Trivia: Pearl is the only “gem" that is formed to defend a biological environment (let’s just say earth) from a mineral threat (Gem colonization). But of course Pearl is not considered as a real gemstone for that reason, just as a Pearl isn’t a real gem in the Homeworld caste system. Also, they do have multiple layers!
Sorry for the length of my comment! I hope it wasn't to much.
there is a ton of foreshadowing to this reveal, mostly by picking inconsistencies between pearl versions vs the other ones she was the only gem that dint make look like rose was from earth
I remember scoffing at anyone who believed the rose is pink diamond theory, so I was completely shocked when this episode came out. My jaw was on the floor and I literally screamed when I saw Rose change into Pink
Yeah it seemed like such a crack theory for a long time. I wasn't mad though - they did the reveal SO well.
This is why Rose is my favorite character for SU. She is so dynamic and so flawed. Rose Quartz was a healer, a champion who stood up to her own homeworld for the sake of the crystal gems and humanity. It also shows how messed up the gem hierarchy is as well. Pearl is Pink Diamonds servant, just like Blue and Yellow Pearl belongs to their diamonds .... but Blue and Yellow Diamond never noticed Pinks Pearl with Rose Quartz. Pearls are so beneath them that they don't recognize them as gems. The are personals accessories that can easily be forgotten. In the trial episode when Zircon defends Steven, she said where was Pink Daimonds Pearl to say watch out my diamond .... and Blue and Yellow Pearl both stopped what they were doing and looked at each other. The Pearls knew the truth. The only character that Rose was ever shown fused with was Pearl, never Amethyst or Garnet.
Been here since season 1
i just now noticed that lapis while trying to run away found something that allows her to see her friends and the planet which is exactly the function yhat she had when she was trapped in the mirror
Detail: That was the reason of why Pearl doesn't like shape shifting 🤧
This episode give the chills until this day
THE EPISODE IS HERE!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Yes. Yes. Yes
What a well done mystery and what a well done episode
Yes! I've been waiting for this moment!!
OMGGG FINALLY MY FAV REACTION YTBERS SAW THE PALE EPISODEE IM SO HAPPY HOW FAR YOU COME GUYS ❤❤❤❤
It’s weird that I just came to this realization, but Steven really came a long way. In season 1, he would have tried to find a crystal gem before running off to the moon with them. But here, he just went on his own without telling anyone but Ronaldo who alerted him.
The way I just SCREAMED when I saw this pop up.
ohhh finally!!! was waiting for your reaction on this episode
It's funny how Ronaldo, for how hated he is, is used to direct Steven to Lapis's whereabouts, where he finally dreams of the whole conspiracy with Pearl.
And we're finally here🤭
There is just a before and after on the show after this epsiode. My Best friend told me these theory since season 1 but I keep telling him it was crazy and no reasonable so when this happened was soooooo insane!
First! I was waiting for this video! ❤
Had the boarders drawn Pink Diamond's gemstone properly in Jungle Moon, the chances of PD being Rose Quartz would have gone up to 99%. The Crewniverse claimed that they weren't paying attention to Pink's gem design, and so made a generic jewelry "diamond" design with cut facets on the top. Had Rose Quartz's/Steven's gemstone had these facets there would have been a zig-zagging pattern all around the gemstone (as well as making it much more complicated and difficult for the animators to draw Steven's gem through the series).
Either the Crewniverse were careless, or they deliberately made the design bogus so that few would conclude that Pink-was-Rose until A Single Pale Rose's big reveal.
(Star Wars reference)
“Pearl didn’t told you what happened to Pink Diamond.”
“She told me enough! My mom(Rose Quartz) shattered her!
“No, she is Pink Diamond.”
*shocked* “No, no, it’s not true… that’s IMPOSSIBLE!!”
“Search your feelings, you know this will be true.”
“NOOOOOOOoooooooo! NOOOooooo!”
Finally, the moment that broke the internet
And that's why Pearl doesn't like/perform shapeshifting...😅
Great reaction!
The truth has been revealed. Rose is Pink Diamond! This was very surprising and shocking
🤯🤯🤯😱😱😱
IM SO HAPPY YOU MADE IT THIS FAR I WAS WAITING
Roses are kinda pinkish, that's a fact.
i remember when i watched this for the first time 😭❤️, its been a while but i still remember i screamed
So much foreshadowing for you to go back and look at. Including the end credit song, Love Like You. Has a different meaning imaging its Pink singing to Steven.
NEXT EPISODE NOW GRRR RAH RAH 👹
The day this aired, the fandom exploded
OHH FINNALLY THEY GOT TO THIS EPISODe
I was one if the folks that guessed this theory back before it was even confirmed i always thought tose was a diamond 😂🌺
LETS GOOOO
FINALLY WERE HERE
Im very impressed Pearl have numbers...i mean phone numbers given by people
Can't wait to see the reaction🎉
(Just see this on recommend at almost 4a.m. after study linear algebra for straight 7.5 hrs ☠️, hasn't watched it yet when I typed this. )
This episode changed Steven Universe forever…
They finally reached the mind-blowing episode!
Ahh I didn't expect this today
I don't about everyone else but when I found out that Rose was Pink Diamond my mind was blown! I'm so happy you know the truth about her!
Diamonds are forever!
Finally guys 🤗👏
Well future episodes are gonna be insane 🤯
WOOOOOO
FINALLY THIS EPISODE HAHAHA
It’s finally here 🥳
Now yall know why pearl hates shapeshifting
Think of the guilt Blue Diamond must have felt learning that her beloved Pink Diamond was (supposedly) shattered by the Rose Quartz she had dismissed as a danger to Pink.
Now its hella good from now
The next Episode is gonna be Crazy 😨
The big reveal!
Such a good pair of eps. Lapis is so scared, understandably. I’d be so scared too but I know she cares for Steven and Peridot.
Spoilers
There was so funny foreshadowing for a couple eps from now. 😊
Steven said “just drop the barn on the beach”
Oh. She does alright 😂😂😂😂
LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!
FINALLY
I grew up watching su and in the third season I had sure about pink/rose
I was really waiting until you finally got to this episode to learn the real truth about pink and rose.
When did ya'll theorize about rose being pink diamond?
I let her make fools of us all 🔵 ❕❕❕
Rose quartz didn't exist...hits different...
12:13 people in 2018 be like:
Oh look the episode that probably gave Steven even more TRAUMA :/ btw there is a Steven future to watch and a movie if you haven’t seen it yet to watch when you finish reacting to this series
I still don’t like the rose=pink diamond choice. Felt like a copt out
Yeah, but now comes the realization Rose sacrificed tons of lives just to stage a rebellion against herself and escape from her duties as a Diamond
WOOOOOO
FINALLY THIS EPISODE HAHAHA
When did ya'll theorize about rose being pink diamond?
