I hate to play stump the chump, but some of that information was incorrect. Tourniquet comes after pressure and packing, not before packing. The reason for this is, if you already have a tourniquet on there is no need to pack or provide additional pressure, because the tourniquet is already cutting off circulation, therefore bleeding has stopped. Also, when it comes to tourniquets, you tighten the windless until the bleeding has stopped, not just until you feel that it is tight enough. Bottom line up front, pain is less important than saving someone’s life.
I think the comment about “getting the tourniquet as tight as you can” is because people using this video are probably amateurs. In a high stress situation it’s hard for your average joe to judge bloodflow, but it’s easy for them to just tighten until they can’t anymore
The argument can be made that depending on the situation, you can jump straight to the tq. If you can identify that the bleeding is indeed arterial, you are allowed to jump straight to the tq. Especially when there is multiple people or if you are in a dangerous situation. Every conflict is different.

Of course. It helps the doctors at a hospital to know how long it has been on so they can figure out if they need to do any other precautionary procedures.
This issue is the risk of crush syndrome. When a muscle is crushed for longer than 15 minutes the body releases a toxic enzyme which is difficult to remove and poisons the kidneys which can result in the casualty dying.

I agree I think you can over tighten the tourniquet and I think The high and tight use of a tourniquetis is for combat situations where you don’t have time to remove clothing to locate what could be multiple wounds throughout the leg or arm. By putting the tourniquet high and tight you could be covering multiple wound situations to an extremity
Wesland Kid with TQ placement, it also depends on your skill level and the environment you are in. So for a knife cut on a limb, go 2 to 3 inches above (not on a joint) and for gunshots or multiple casualty (where you don't have time to identify the exact location of the bleed) just go high and tight.

I m sorry, but this tourniquet is too complicated for a bystander that would even have access to this contraption. It s a waste of taxpayer's money. Instead, the focus should be on what a layperson can find to use to help someone who is bleeding out. Any suggestions?
If it's a shallow cut probably not unless like @sas647 said you have diabetes or something like that. Or if a virus or bacteria enters your body through the cut, then yes, depending on the virus or bacteria.
I don’t know where you’ve heard that, but there is no evidence that the radiation produced from any kind of Bluetooth device can put your health at risk.
Tourniquet should be the last resort. I heard that it should be loosen every so many minutes (for just seconds I guess) but maybe that depends on how severe the bleeding. I guess it is to reduce the chance of loosing the limb as us the risk with these things but if it is life threatening, you may have to make the tradeoff.
Seriously with this incorrect instruction ? Large bulky cover it up bandage is a no go. Still going with absorption is wrong. So if I have a junction AP Bleed or an arterial Bleed you want me to call 9-1-1 in lieu of applying the Tourniquet first ? Medics will get there just in time to see a dead patient. “ You guys should do what I say because a surgeon taught it to me “
Sounds like this is directed towards the 'lay rescuer/bystander' as opposed to someone trained and experienced in First Aid or professional responder. The call 911 first thing is probably more to spell it out to lay rescuers/bystanders and get Paramedics rolling, kinda standard in F/A training. I catch your drift and see where your coming from though...
You have a point, but there will often be a second person who can be told to call 911. If that is so, the person treating needs to delegate a specific person and tell them "call 911 NOW". But you are right...the tourniquet is top priority when you have arterial spurting. You can also dial 911 if you have your phone right with you, set the phone down preferably on speaker. You can talk while you treat.

@@Dero_milsurp correct I should have phrased it better. Its 4 hours where medical complications become more expected
may i add for the wound packing, its not about how deep u pack the wound, the important thing is LOCATING the artery/source of bleeding and packing the gauze or cloth directly into it. its inefficient to just stuff the cloth in aimlessly.
this video is much more detailed and useful than this half-assed one th-cam.com/video/qhOyXTm9XwY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8QFff4JYHNVaWjy2
wish i would've known this last weekend, rip
I m sorry, but this tourniquet is too complicated for a bystander that would even have access to this contraption. It s a waste of taxpayer's money. Instead, the focus should be on what a layperson can find to use to help someone who is bleeding out. Any suggestions?
Last one was brutal I think I cant do it
Excellent 👍
So injury anywhere on the body is life threatening 🤔
Thank God i found this video, that bank job went south
Hahahaha " Do Not PEEK" 😂😂
Well I peeled a scratch and it’s bleeding what do I do 😭😭😭
Rub alcohol
@@joemama4776 ok thanks
awesome
It is helpful
Very useful
If i cut my finger does it mean i might die?
If you have diabetes yes
If it's a shallow cut probably not unless like @sas647 said you have diabetes or something like that. Or if a virus or bacteria enters your body through the cut, then yes, depending on the virus or bacteria.
I would pack the wound then tourniquet
Or vice versa
If you already packed the wound there's no need for a tourniquet unless bleeding persist
So many turniquet experts up in this comment section.
CELOX CELOX.
very good HOWEVER also carry CELOX. Save a friend of mine wife. Keep in your backpack, medicine cabinet, home or vehicle emergency kit.
I hear wifi smart watches are bad for health not alot of studies btlut I wouldn't trust it or airpods. Just my two cents thanks for the video !
I don’t know where you’ve heard that, but there is no evidence that the radiation produced from any kind of Bluetooth device can put your health at risk.
thank you very much. Murakoze cyane.
this video got my teeth hurting, especially the wound packing.
why?
@@fmedstudent7885 why?
I was tought to apply enough tension to stop the bleeding and no more. Not to tighten the turikit until you can't turn it any further. Boo bad info!
Hold up hold up, missing all or part of a limb is a sign of life-threatening bleeding? Well shit, now we know.
Why would I want to save someone who I shot?
@Duffelbag Drag I'm not a cop
I don’t agree that you tighten a tourniquet “ as tight as you can“ The point is to tighten the tourniquet until the bleeding stops🙄
Its funny bc wher r u going to fine the first aid kit if u in the middle of a shoot out in the roads n shit
That's why I carry a trauma kit everywhere I go!
Cool
You can talk while you treat.
the background music is so distracting...
I’ve been watching shark attack videos 😬😩
damn 5:45 looks painful
wtf you just shove a fucking bandage inside the wound?
