Norfolk Coast Path. Part 5 - Cromer to Happisburgh. Trail Walking. Cliff Top Camp.

  • In this video, I am back on the trail, walking the stunning Norfolk Coastal Path from the seaside town of Cromer on the North Norfolk coast to the fast disappearing village of Happisburgh. A mixture of sandy beach walking, lofty cliff top trails and quaint, richly historical coastal villages, bring me finally to my camp spot on top of the crumbling cliffs, constantly under attack from the destruction of the sea beneath.
I devour a well earned and needed dinner and relax before falling fast asleep to the sound of the crashing waves and the heavy rain as a storm passes over, all warm and cozy inside my bivvi.
I ended up walking further than intended for this day, as my planned camping spots turned out to be unsuitable - sometimes the spot you see on the map and the reality when you get there are quite different. On the plus side, I’ll have a shorter walk tomorrow!
I hope you enjoy the video and please tune in for part 2.
    Thanks for watching!

From Colorado USA. At 10k ft. Altitude.....My main pack food is Mountain House..great stuff for sure. In the 70s my friend and I thought to try their new product...blueberry pancake . We added water and a monster grew out of the package. It foamed over everything and wouldn't cook...so we buried it a distance from camp. Next morning their was a blue blob trail over four feet from the whole down hill. We laughed it off as another trail memory and when we got back home watched a scifi classic.."The Blob" ....great memories to hou Simon..you did another great video! May your steps on the trail be sure and your fire warm at night!

It's silly, but I really enjoy when Simon uses "squeezy cheese" on trips. Here in the States, the squeezy cheese we have is Easy Cheez and it's just chock full of preservatives and is absolutely a "cheese food product" and not actual cheese, so many of us don't eat it, especially those of us who do wilderness camping. Seeing that the UK and other places have ACTUAL cheese in tubes is fascinating and is something I REALLY want to try some day. Thanks for sharing, Simon!

A bit of sweet at the end of a long day just hits the spot. “Nackered” means extremely tired or worn out? It’s a new word for this Texan. Do you call gravel on the beach, “Shingles”? Yes, knackered just means dog tired.
Shingle is the name we use for stony beaches like that (but just to make things confusing, we also call flat timber roof coverings and sidings ‘shingles’ just as you guys do😁) it’s a confusing language!! 😂

    • @papajeff5486
      @papajeff5486 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, I truly enjoy our shared language. I’ve taught my kids and grandchildren that words are important. So, here, shingles for the roof and walls are also referred to as “cedar shake or oak shake”, don’t ask me why. (Smile) Thanks for the help with “words”. I probably won’t use the word, “knackered”, simply because I think it’s unique to you guys. I’ll also stick to “rocky beach” rather than “shingles”. Although I will understand, they belong to you guys.

I'm from Lincolnshire and don't know the Norfolk coast south of Overstrand, I didn't know the erosion was that bad. 😳 Really enjoyable video as ever Simon. 👍

Thank you Simon. I always enjoy your videos. Very gentle but also interesting. I like your style of filming and production and am always trying to improve my vids so every day is a school day when I watch what you do! 😄

So good to see this. Many great memories of similar adventures. Now, I realise what a privilege that was. Favourite game was to get visitors and American family to pronounce 'Happisburgh'! (Happys-berg vs 'Hayzbruh')

Pretty views. Earths conveyor belt. Movement of all kinds to the hot cleansing mantel... That was a good twist of a look about for possible left debris.. Wow! how big are the waves 50 100 200 ft.... tall??? Rogue wave area? Did you bring scuba gear on this trip???? Better choice than a water logged beach...
Norwegian oats are grot I think.... Grog and Grots sounds pretty yummy!..as a Porridge.. Taking that spoonful of dessert, you look like a 007 man....the future.

Hahaha, thanks Julie! There waves weren’t as big as they looked, but I still wasn’t going in! 🥶

When you said that the shoreline was depleting or eroding away. I thought massive waves.
I need to proof better, my typing spelling and..are off at times . Thanks

They’re sneaky, stealth waves - peck away at the base of the cliffs until a chunk falls down - during storms more damage is done.

It is the North sea...right. Big waves on that sea.. Record breakers both literally and figuratively. Thanks

That was careful editing and patient waiting for people to pass before hitting ‘record’ haha.
This coast is always popular with walkers, dig walkers, bird watchers etc. 👍
