- This video goes over a simple way to gain access to the 10mm and 8mm bolts that are holding the 100 AMP Main Bussbar Fuse in place. Removal of the airbox is not needed, as you can release the fuse holders with the plastic tabs.
Note: You need to know WHY this fuse blew, you could have a short or malfunctioning component. Do NOT replace this unless you know why it blew. In my case, I was an idiot and replaced the alternator without disconnecting the battery, and shorted out the positive cable that goes to the alternator against the body... BOOM!
By far the best video on this
Thanks!
Definitely better than the other video’s out there on how to replace the Alternator fuse.
I assume the process is the same for an 03 Camry? Everything looks the same.
Thanks!
@@PeterRosas I don’t know. Sorry!
Have to totally agreed with @PeterRosas. This save me a ton of money. Thanks.
Same as everyone else,, thank you so much for posting this video!! I need to replace that fuse for my 2001 Camry XLE and I don't want to break anything struggling with it!. This is the best fuse video I've seen today, thank you!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks a million! You help us avoid causing expensive damage and having a *huge* headache. Doing it your way was so much easier.
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much for this video!! Changed out alternator without disconnecting battery. I let the main lead to alternator touch heat shield and it arced out pretty good before I grabbed it. I would assume this is what blew my 100amp fuse. I was yanking and pulling like crazy until I gave up and watched your video. To my surprise, there’s bolts holding the prongs in!??? Ha! Got it out as you showed and swapped fuses. All good now. I had battery light on dash and no Tach as symptoms. Everything fixed with new fuse. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and post on you tube!!
I forgot to add mine is a 1998 Camry XLE 4cly I think it’s 2.2L.
It’s my 35+mpg commute car and it’s paid for itself time and time again.
That’s great! I did the exact same thing. Forgot to disconnect the battery installing a new alternator. :(
bro i literally did the EXACT same thing today changing my alternator myself for the time on my 01 Camry🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks so much for making this! I'm lucky I didn't break mine badly today trying to get it out.
Great video! After I exclaimed my joy in replacing this crazy difficult fuse my wife said "Are you going to make a video?" since I sometimes do (to share the joy with the youtubesphere). I replied, "no need, this (trenamy) video is already there!" Thank you for enriching the lives of the DIY auto repair community!
Hehe. Nice!
Ingenious! I knew from looking at this fuse box because of the placement of the tabs - there had to be a way to pop it up for access to the screws... now I know there is.
Glad it helped!=
Thanks! I was really confused why the fuse wouldn't come out!
Glad it helped!
Ty for this
My dumbass forgot to unplug the battery during an alternator swap and this enabled me to get back on the road and out of the autozone parking lot.
That is exactly why I had to replace it. :) I suspect that’s why most have to replace it.
Legit hero. Thank you
Friend, you are a god sent for doing this video. Thank you so much it helped immensely. I hope you and yours have a wonderful new year.
Thanks! You too!
Thank you so much! Helped me fix my 2000 Toyota Camry LE.
Great!
Thanks man! Way better way to change out the fuse.
Glad it helped!
Excellent!!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Can you tell by looks if the 100 AMP Main Buss Fuse is blown? And what does it look like if blown?
I don't have a picture, but, it should be fairly obvious by looking at the top. If you google and look at images there are examples.
Did you pull the old fuse right up after releasing the fuse box, and put the new one in? I did not see that part. Did I miss somthing. Thanks.
Yes! After removing the old fuse I installed the new one. Same procedure in reverse.
@@treynamy Thanks.
Great video, my fuse went out last night so now I know how to replace it, do you know if this happens because the alternator is going bad?
Mine blew because I didn't disconnect the battery when replacing the alternator. For you, I don't know, but, they blow when there's a sudden surge > 100A.
what happens if you accidentally had the 8mm wire cut off when removing the bolt? can it be fixed
It can always be fixed! Might need a mechanic for that.
Is this the one that controls turn signals taillights radio seats dash etc? Headlight and dome light work but not nothing else electrical does.
This is the MAIN 100AMP fuse. The output of the alternator goes to it, then to the rest of the car.
So what if I changed it and still not getting charge 2nd alternator and battery this week
Check voltage at battery while off. Then while running. Will probably have to have it tested.
good-0. i,ll give that a go
How do I tell if this fuse has blown?
You can see the metal strip internally is broken.
Is it the male or female one?
I’m not sure I understand your question.
That's easy enough😅😅
