Dear sweet Liesa! My husband and I have been living off of my preps. He never believed I needed to have so much in our pantry, until, he lost his job. He hasnt worked since October 2023. He just started bck to work this past thursday. We have been living off of no more than $50 per month at the store. Now he is in favor of both the pantry and out money stash. He didnt even know I had the money stash. Now he is all for it. Now we have to rebuild as we are able. Great video today, and everyday!!!

Wow. I had a similar situation. My husband had emergency surgery on Dec 9th. He has diabetes and he got an infection. They left the wound open and I've been changing his dressing several times a day. He just went back to work a couple weeks ago but it sure showed me I need to get back to preparing. I could eat out of my stock, no problem. He has never been on board but I realized he may not be around and no one else is going to be here for me. He actually is a hinderance to prepping because he is such a picky person with his food. Out of frustration, I slacked off but I got to get back on the ball for me at least.

Any time I open something like peanut butter, bag of flour, shampoo, etc., I write the date on it with a sharpie. This tells me how long something lasts in my house. When I find a good sale, I know how much to buy and how long it will last us. This also saves me from wasting money overstocking in one area or another.

My daughter and son-in-law as I type, are in my backyard putting in a walkway and 2 × 8 raised garden for us. My husband will be 80 this year and I'm not far behind him and on a walker full time. I've also got 10 5 gallon buckets. I've never gardened so I'm real excited to play in the dirt. My heirloom seeds came in last week. I guess I got too excited because 30 packages were delivered.

Came to approx. $5 a pound and lots of piece of mind. Still have 31 chickens of the sixty we harvested last summer. Stretching things as far as we can. Saved for three years for a freeze drier. Because AI is rewriting history and distorting everything we read to follow a certain agenda I decided to write, not digital, my own personal history for my great grandchildren. They are learning the history that big tech wants them to know not how it really was. My words will be accompanied by photos, ration books, and pertinent documents from my mother and mother in law and myself. It will be a kind of genealogy, but not an ancestral way. I am also looking for old book, such as Foxfire to keep for them. We are fast losing our history and culture.

At that time we had six children and one on the way so we had to can up a lot. We did make it through the winter that year into April. From that point on of course I can't more as the kids grew. Kids eat a lot of food. One of my children said I never knew we were poor we ate so well! I never felt like I was poor I just knew that canning was the way to go and freezing. I stopped eating all processed foods and bread then went keto then carnivore. I lost 65lbs and with gods help got off all my meds (11), and cured numerous diseases including diabetes and high blood pressure. We all need to stop eating the junk that that's created in factories. Stick with natural organic foods you grow and buy meats from your local ranch/farm. Grocery store foods have tons of chemicals and additives to help make it last longer or at least "look" like its still fresh, even meat has dyes and chemicals added. This is why our health is so bad in this country. A lot of processed foods made in USA is banned in other countries due to all the additives. Our government and USDA do not have our best interests at heart. It's all about money and profit to them. USDA, EPA and other government agencies are controlled by big pharma and food processing plants. Big pharma pushes junk food, bugs and fake meat to keep us sick and using more medications. They are all corrupted. Use the brain that God gave you and research who makes your food.

I buy frozen fruits and veggies and even they have chemicals on them so I process and freeze my own in season and try to eat in season in my area just because the store has it doesn’t mean it’s fresh things could be on a boat for a week and then on a truck for days more so frozen is fresher it’s processed most time the same day or the next day . I’m in Canada so there you have my take on things .learn nutrition which leisa has a lot of in her videos find out what fruits and veggies has what vitamins and minerals and two from there pick what you like don’t buy what you don’t like as you probably won’t eat it just double up on what you will eat that’s been stressed many times in her videos . Stay smart and safe people . ❤*

I work in a school kitchen, we have more kids with allergies this year than we have ever had, peanuts being #1. Lactose #2. Gluten #3. 2 children under the age of 7 have full on celiac disease confirmed by a children's hospital. This is an auto immune disease. We have 2 children under the age of 10 on diabetic pumps, because their diabetes cant be controlled with regular insulin shots. This is a public school in a city that has 5 elementary schools. We have 300 students in our school. These statistics are crazy. We are ruining our kids. Most of the parents rely on us to make sure their children eat properly, refuse to make home made food for them. We have a special ordering system in place for these children, we actually have 1 child that has a documented allergy to beef. We can't have peanuts or fish in the school at all, because 4 children have anifilactic allergies to nuts and fish. That means employees cant bring these things into the school either. We use sunbutter in place of peanut butter. This is real. Some how. We have messed up our kids with processed food. And it shows.

Students with type 1 diabetes using insulin pumps isn't a sign of them not having control with "regular" shots. Regular shots is old technology. Pumps all students so much more freedom in managing their diabetes! Having a pump, and likely a CGM, allows them to avoid needing to fingerstick all the time. Pumps provide real-time information on their blood sugar.

We learned before the pandemic that our pantry was a necessity, we had to live off it due to disability causing my job loss. We had to sell the family home, since I couldn't do stairs anymore. Even while I couldn't get around well, my hubby helped me can, and vacuum seal, and store those awesome items found on sale, and we just keep going. I learned to pressure can, and keep adding to my recipes, thanks to your Canuary series. I saved up and got a freeze dryer and we used it constantly for a year straight. We bought only super priced clearance items, or our garden harvesting and put it up, while canning as well. It is definitely the best inflation fighter there is. We see daily that our investment continues to pay us dividends, in low cost scratch cooked meals. I am getting better with my seasoning and spices(flavor profiles), to make the plain meals taste better. And I have always added oatmeal or rice to meatloaf, heck I only wished that I would have thought of beans. But now beans go into a ton of meals and I freeze dried the leafy greens that my hubby doesn't like the flavor of and powdered it to make a green powder to add to everything from spaghetti sauce to brownies. It's great for us, and the flavor is hidden for him. Keep stashing away those deals, and keep a list of prices for foods you enjoy, so you know what a good deals is.

There is a way to do beans called Fast Beans. Rose Red Homestead has at least one video on it. Leisa may have one, too. I haven't checked to see. You cook them, drain them well, then dehydrate them. You store them in a vacuum-sealed jar. It takes very little water to rehydrate them. I haven't done any yet, but I plan to do it soon. Certainly, canning them means that you will need no extra water to heat them up. You can also buy these small packages of water that are sealed and would be safe for quite a while. One packet might be enough for each serving, if you wanted to put some back. If you live in an area with regular rains, you could use tarps and large buckets to collect it. It would have to be filtered, but you'd have some to use. Well, if we don't have anything dangerous in the air, that is. I, too, am very concerned about having water. We cannot afford to have a deep well dug at this point, and we are not that close to a water source. Relocating isn't in the picture for us, so we will have to figure it out the best that we can. You can also store water in clean barrels for a long time. It will have a flat taste, but you'd still be able to use it. Get some of those life straws, too, if you can. Then, if nothing else, you could use whatever water is around in puddles or ditches. There is a process for filtering it before using the life straw or similar tech to make it drinkable. Hopefully, Leisa will do a video on it for us as well. God be with you.

I started sewing when I was 13 years old. I made my clothes then because it was cheaper to make them than it was to buy them. Sewing has saved me thousands of dollars through the years. I made my wedding dress, children’s clothes, quilts, curtains, shower curtains, pillowcases, crafts for gifts, robes, Cushion covers, dog bed covers, and many more items. I have repaired my friends and families clothing quite a bit. I always have a stack of mending, replacing zippers, fixing backpacks. The one thing I do, is when I am folding clothes or doing laundry if I see a rip or something wrong with the clothing I fix it right away or mark it so that I can repair it. I do preventative maintenance too. I stitch around my towels and sheets and items like that so that they don’t fray.
I would encourage people to learn the skill. My sewing machine is my security if the economy goes down. I can fix many things for people so they have something to wear. It’s not easy all the time and I made many mistakes over the years but I have learned and I’m glad that I have

@theunknownknowsBYvoivod It depends on what you want to do. Heavy coats, summer tops, children's clothes, leather stitching, embroidery, pants, nightgowns, quilts? Think of the heaviest fabrics and the number of layers you will need to sew. I was in a historical reenactment group many yrs ago when I killed my Singer machine by trying to sew through 7 layers of velvet for a Renaissance gown. I told salespeople what I needed to sew. Most of them said that I needed an industrial machine. I went to a Pfaff store and she showed me a regular machine that sewed through 9 layers of heavy fabric. I bought that about 35 years ago. In about 2003, I saw an embroidery machine ( Brother) that looked new but was about 1/ 2 the price. A woman had purchased it, then brought it back in a couple of months because she wanted the one with the Disney characters built in. I have both of them now and use both as needed. You may need to save $$ up for it, put it on lay away, or get a good working used machine, but get one that has a least amount of plastic and more metal - then you will probably have one that will last for years.

Yeah, you know even the "healthy" stuff contains horrible things in them. It was not until about 5 years ago that I learned many grain products contain glyphosate (including steel cut oats). It's used to dry grain once cut. Same active ingredient in everyday herbicides. And our government "allows" a certain so called "safe" amount of this crapola in our food system. Many of the countries I have lived in will not allow a lot of our foods and seeds to be exported to them.@@suegeorge998

We’ve bought in bulk for years(bc we lived far from stores). I was an extreme couponer turned that into comparing prices online, stocking up on certain sale items every month. You don’t need to go bankrupt trying to stock up. We bought our generator one year, we bought our water filtration system the next, one big ticket item. I turned my dining room into another pantry by just using wire shelves & food safe buckets. I’ve canned for 30 years. I’ve been dehydrating quick meals (like soups) to add to my bug out tote. Foods that just need hot water. Rice, beans, pastas, oatmeal things like that are cheaper to buy esp in bulk. They store extremely well. We’ve been eating much cleaner for years. I have an autoimmune disease. Garbage in, garbage out. We’re doubling our growing again this year with another Greenstalk.

Meanwhile they live in a brand new 800k home. Great for them and very happy for them. I proudly answered "Well, yes I am"! People often tease me for being a prepper (mainly a pressure canner). In the next breath they jokingly state "Well I guess I know where we will go if we run out". Don't get me wrong, I am happy to help my family and neighbors if they need it. But as I've often said "At the end of the day why am I your safety net? Why don't you have your own safety net?". I'm currently teaching my adult son how to pressure can. It was my birthday wish present from him.

We lived off our preps for 14 months in 2015 into 2016. I just bought dairy, bread, a Thanksgiving turkey, and an Easter ham, bananas. oranges, and needed coffee late into it. We would occasionally buy chips 5o eat with sandwiches. I had 4 kids- teens- at home and one that had moved out. We also were THE house that all the kids came to, so i fed a lot of other kids. At the end i had a smaller bucket of rice and I still had some dried beans, sugar, oats, and random canned vegetables, mostly not our favorites. What i found was that i had some canned items i dont like but thought " If youre hungry youll eat it," but, nope, i never got that hungry. So, i do not waste precious space storing stuff id eat if i was hungry.
We had a 2nd time when we moved states and our house took a year to sell so we had our mortgage and rent and were so poor we didnt have but $150 a month to eat on with 5 preteen/teens. That was the year of the casserole, stir fries, and soups. Beans and rice and pasta were added to everything. Id make dinner and there would come in 2 of the kids friends and we stretched it to feed others. I always told my kids anyone was welcome. I had one girl ask if i cooked every night and when i said yes, she said her mom only cooked twice a year, on holidays, the rest they got take out. I had been thinking she thought we were poor eating casseroles and such, and she was impressed we had home cooked food. Grow what you can. I had 8 large pots with stick trellises and grew tomatoes, peppers, green beans, squash, zucchini, lettuce, potatoes, okra, and cucumbers while we were in the rental house that year. if stick in the root end of lettuce, celery, green onions, etc to regrow.

We currently have nearly 4 years of preserved food and still going. We have been pressure canning, and freeze drying. The freeze dryer has paid for itself a couple times over now. We like the freeze drying not only because of long-term storage, but it knocks your required storage space down by 10x. The food is excellent when reconstituted as long as you spice it properly when you cook it before freeze drying it. We have 3 pressure canners and our absolute favorite is the All American one. It costs more, but there is no gasket to have to be replaced when they are tough to find in a SHTF event. We can process 19 quarts/ batch in that puppy. I wish I had purchased it years before we did. Just found you, looking forward to checking out more videos. I retired in 2020, had three apple trees, started gardening in 2021 & have expanded every year since (but I just have my backyard on a small lot -1/8 acre lot, about half available for growing). I now have raspberries & strawberries & currants & gooseberries & grapes & cherries & asparagus, friends let me add to their order so I wouldn't have to meet the minimum on my own and I have Juneberries & buffalo berries coming. I also grow herbs, collect rain water, have a compost bin, started 'farming' compost worms, and I stick flowering plants for the pollinators into the nooks & crannies in order to increase production. I locally source beef, pork, chicken, eggs. My biggest hurdle, other than just not being as fit & strong as I was 40 years ago, is that I'm on meds that make me low on energy, so I'm looking into what natural remedies might counteract that side effect without negatively interacting with the meds. I have so much to learn, in what feels like very little time, it can be overwhelming, so it's important for me to find helpful channels that are realistic but not pessimistic, because the click bait doom & gloom channels can paralyze me. Thankfully, since retiring I've also made three new friends who are like-minded, and two of them are willing to actively mentor me - God is faithful!

A dozen bags of chips in a pretty basket. Bins of single serving drink pouches. Cases of carbonated beverages lined up on the floor. Containers of dry cereal. Have you gone to a staffing agency? I would if I was as talented as you are.

@@houstonlady1 Not yet. That is on my list for next week though. I've also thought about checking with the senior center and see if they have any information on jobs.

Look for freelance work instead of a job. You’re in charge that way. I’ve done freelance bookkeeping for small businesses for 24 years now in addition to my job. In my freelance work I set my prices and my hours. I’m in charge of everything about freelance. They is my plan for retirement. I’ll retire from the job but will always earn extra money with my own businesses.

@@passionateherbs8183 If you end up seeing two replies from me I made an oops when I hit submit somehow and it "disappeared".
Anyway, old-fashioned networking meetings are how I got started in 2001. I went to local business groups and passed out my business card to business owners who needed some help but didn't want to hire someone as an employee. I found people who needed a few hours of my time. After the first couple, I got them to give me a recommendation on my LinkedIn profile page which I use as my freelance website. I've never been without as much work as I wanted since then. I also have a Facebook page and a Google listing.

Interesting, that your book group picked this book. I have been listening to The 4th Turning is Here as an audiobook from library checkout for a while. I listen to it when I drive so it’s taking me a while to get through it (at 40% now) & have had to recheck it out after putting another hold because so many people are waiting to check it out. Earlier today I was talking to my accountant it came up about the nation’s political divide & she said it’s never been so bad. I was able to counter the 1850s pre civil war were far worse. (I got that focus from this book, even though I knew pieces of that history.)
What I’m working on right now is figuring out a zillion ways to prepare tinned sardines packed in olive oil because it turns out I like them, they’ve been sale every other month, and I’m rotating new tins into my pantry. My Dr wants me to eat more fish 🐟 so I figure this is a good way to up fish from my current once a week (usually tuna into a salad or salmon in a vegetable stir fry) to 2 or 3 times a week.

I’ve been preparing for years. NOT from a place of fear but of self-preservation for my family in any event. We have a plan for living without any power, water, or gas for our home. But now, building our bug out supplies.

I'm in the midst of moving states, so I'm eating down my pantry, but once I'm moved, I will be rebuilding.

Thank you for the book advice. I have a pantry and am researching recipes to incorporate more beans into our meals. I hope to do one a week and save printed copies of the good ones. I need to register and attend classes at a shooting range to obtain a hunting license (which will then allow me to purchase protection). I debate buying a freeze dryer as my family is small.

I am a person who prepares always due to lifelong health issues. I do not concern myself with others and what they think. Our lives are changing right now and I have great hope that more and more will find kindness and love and that our culture will be one that people are attracted to. Love is the healing for everything. I believe in God and that each person is on his own path to his destiny.

This is probably one of the most informational chats you’ve had for the viewers that are looking for the way to stay calm through the scary time of getting prepared. I love the octopus analogy. I’ve been preparing for years also. I started my marriage nearly 53 years ago with nothing but the ability make something out of nothing. Five meals from one chicken. You want a television…save your money until you can buy. There was no credit in our house…there was layaway or nothing. My husband didn’t like layaway and since I managed the $ there was nothing.
Please know that your budget, your lists, you patience, your belief in yourself, Lisa’s octopus analogy and your desire for a better future for you and your family with all assist you as you move forward.
Thank you Lisa for a great video❣️
