So I just followed these directions to break in a new softball catcher's mitt and outfield glove from your previous video. OMG! It worked like a charm. I used the hot water, mallet, 5 lb dumbbell, shorty bat, and put them in the car. It was 90 degrees today. My daughter had the biggest smile on her face when we played catch today. Amazing! Thank you.
Hey Coach! Thanks for making these videos! I've used these videos now to break in my son's glove, and now I've used this one break in a catcher mitt for one of the catchers on my team who though he had it broken in from one of the big chain sports stores, but I took the new mitt and had it floppy and poppy in less that 8 hours by using this technique!
Love the video! Pulled some ideas from this to help me with breaking in my daughter's new FastPitch catcher's mitt. First time I've watched you - great work!
Just like he said, “Everyone has their own routine”. (For breaking in a glove) I personally box my catchers mitt and don’t like it to be collapsed. But this is his way that works for him. Nice vid.
@@ricardocervantes7203 i think he means not leaving it flat so it turns into a pancake. when you leave it straight up, it stays stiffer, lasting longer
Thanks coach! My 10 year old son is adamant about learning to be a good catcher and getting his mitt game ready is an awesome start! Appreciate the info!
So I just got my 1st ever catchers mitt and watched this video it was easily the best thing I could have done to break it in thanks coach you helped alot
I made an account just to comment that I followed this video step by step when I bought my daughter a catchers mitt. Just like the other comments on here it worked better than I could of imagined! it took about 45 minutes to an hour from getting it wet to placing in the dash of my truck, this time included making a softball mallet as well. My daughter LOVES the POP so much, she is so excited to take it to practice and see what her pitchers think. Thanks for the awesome video!
Just wanted to say that I tried this process and it worked perfectly. The glove came out almost completely broken in and ready to go. I was admittedly a little worried about getting it wet in the shower, but when I wiped off some of the excess water and followed the directions given in the video, everything worked out. The only difference is that instead of putting the glove in the car, I used self-sticking wrap tape to wrap up the glove and let it dry on the window sill inside the house for 24 hours. When I unwrapped it, it was really nice and broken in with a good pocket.
@@CoachHP I was mostly a bench warmer but I played center field if we had a good enough lead on the other team (that was in 1970). Keep up the good work.

Thank coach! It's my son's birthday next week and I got him a new catchers glove. Its not a Rawlings but a Wilson A2000 M1 with the superskin. He plays travel ball. I will use your method for breaking it in. Thanks again coach!!!
I have been using my catchers mitt since I was in 7th grade I am in my 2nd year of college right now. I just ordered a new one and this video was super helpful. I do get sad because I love my old glove, but its time has come :(
For all of you saying he’s breaking the glove in wrong listen There’s no one right way to break in a glove, there’s a million different ways to do it and everyone’s is slightly different He also isn’t doing anything actually wrong with the glove, hot water treatment is super common and doesn’t damage the glove like people say it does, and flattening the glove doesn’t stretch the glove out and mess it up it simply loosens the leather
Another great video!!! I have my girls in 10u and this will be key in making them not only catching the ball, but keeping the ball in their gloves! Still scrolling though looking for the infielders glove. Lol Thanks again for these great great videos!!

Just got a pro preferred yesterday and I did everything in the video and it is so good! The form is great, deep nice pocket and pretty broken in. I’ll give this video a solid 10/10!🔥🔥
Yo coach, thanks for the vid. However, I also wanna ask, how can I get my leather inside the glove to be softer. Because whenever I catch, the ball pops out. And I see so many mlb catchers with the leather soft. But the glove still works
did all the major stuff you guys did in breaking in a 1st baseman's glove for my grandson. old guy down the street suggested using shaving cream to soften the leather. glove came out perfectly
Important to add is, while receiving pitches, you close the glove with thumb and pinky. Furthermore put pinky and ring finger in the glove's pinky. I see a lot of kids squeeze the glove with full hand and ruining the pocket that way.
BlocBaby D listen know it all, you can break in a glove many ways, not just one. I wouldn’t do this method either, but it’s for one day, how to break it in as fast as possible
im not an advocate of the hot water method, and if you arent either you can do the same thing but with glove oil. the only issue with glove oil is you have to pay for it, and the good and trusted oils cost more. the hot water method also softens it better and wont darken lighter colours. if you want to do it naturally it can take a lot longer time, usually a month (i take a full year on catchers mitts) but still works
The only thing that should feel broken in truly is the pocket where your thumb inserts and the deep pocket where you receive the ball the padding on both sides of the deep pocket should remain thick and stiff or an easier attempt at blocking the ball and keeping everything in front of you. Great video
Get one the sandfilled balls and actually have glove or mitt on hand and watch tv while throwing into pocket over and over...then leave ball in it over night with it tied up! You can break in a mitt and pocket be good and still not pancake when throw it on ground!
i just break it in slowly so it forms to my hand and never flatten the glove bc then itll turn into a pancake over time. Break in a catchers mitt with the box shape. It makes the pocket super big and makes it easier to catch the baseball. With the box shape you always know where the ball will bc it just falls into the same spot of the pocket each time

I made a glove mallet out of an old base ball a 5" screw and a piece of dowel. Cost me maybe $5. I've had it for 12 years and it's broken in 100's of little league gloves for players on my kids teams.

Yes you can but try to get a mallet if possible they are about $20. It helps shape the pocket of the glove for the exact shape of a baseball but you can also use a dumbbell
