I was catching before the throat guard was invented. (see Steve Yeager’s near death experience) I remember all three times a foul tip hit me in the throat. I also broke my left thumb with a sweep tag and took several inadvertent whacks to the head with bats. That said, I loved playing behind the plate. Lots of fun!

5:47 textbook technique! Don’t try to snare the ball with your glove, shift your feet, keep the ball in front of you and take it off your armor. Glanced off the unprotected wrist, which smarts, but it comes with the territory. Also as soon as the ball is secured he’s just eagle eyeing the infield. Beautiful.

I have MAD respect for MLB catchers. They are behind the plate calling the pitches, that are thrown at them at close to 80mph if not more, while a grown man is trying to hit it out of the air as hard as they can with a big wooden bat. I was a catcher while I was growing up (8-11 U), it was exceptionally tough considering I was left handed. I quit during fall ball of 11 U when drop 3rd strike came along. It was too hard for me to throw to first while being left handed. I think catching is the most fun, dangerous, involved, and respected position in baseball.

I thought runners werent supposed to run too far out of the baseline? the guy at 1:20 went way the hell out there to avoid the catcher. He was at least 6 feet off the baseline. After looking up the rules it says the base path isnt established until the tag is attempted and the runner cant deviate more than 3 feet to avoid being tagged, so is this okay because he anticipated the catchers actions and tried to run wide before the base path was established?

I love the one highlight Sanchez has ever had defensively was just a lucky play for him haha. Dude stopped the ball with his forearm lol. Not with the glove or his torso like you are taught to do. But because he is so slow he stops it with his forearm. Poor guy

Like Tommy Lasorda said, I would take the best athlete on the team, and make him a catcher.

Not a huge baseball fan but what happened to that bunt where the pitcher hit the batters finger? Is it an out? Even thought he hit it with his finger?

The Dodgers "Run & Bunt" at the 4:29 mark looked like the bunt was clearly foul, so the runner going to second shouldn't have been doubled up.

Doesn’t matter fair or foul, you can get doubled up
