At the age of 95, Dick Van Dyke has seen many things over the course of his career in Hollywood. The comedic and musical actor has been a household name since the 1960s and has maintained his health and vigor into his old age. Dick got married to his first wife in 1948, well before his rise to mainstream prominence. His first wife never liked the Hollywood lifestyle, resulting in the two having numerous issues.

Dick made his Broadway debut in 1959, performing in the show The Girls Against the Boys. Dick was chosen for his charisma, despite not having any dancing experience. However, he was a quick learner. Dick's performance was successful, resulting in a Tony Award. In 1961, he took to television in The Dick Van Dyke Show. A massive success, the show stayed on the air until 1965. During that time, Dick could also be seen on film in such features as 1963's Bye Bye Birdie and j1964's Mary Poppins.
By the early 1970s, Dick had developed a severe dependency on alcohol. He checked into a rehab clinic. Upon returning from the clinic, he learned that his wife had also checked in as a result of a secret dependency on prescription medications. Dick was completely unaware of his wife's problem, proving that the two's relationship had become extremely distant. After their rehab stays, the two began taking trial separations from each other. During this time, Dick developed a romantic relationship with his agent's secretary, Michelle Triola. Dick and Michelle entered into an extra-marital affair that lasted for many years before Dick and Margie's divorce was finalized. Recently, Dick has expressed that he retains a great deal of guilt about this time in his life. Join Facts Verse as Dick Van Dyke reveals the affair that ended his marriage.

One of my favorite actors of all time for the rest of my life. I obsessively watched the Dick Van Dyke show and it's one of the few series I've seen every single episode of. His natural raw talent is just immutable.🥰

I'm shocked he had no dancing experience! He is such an azing, versatile actor, whether as Rob Petrie, dancing, singing Burt, or as a doctor. My heart will truly break when he passes.

I was shocked as well! =) I hope this doesn't sound insensitive; but it's been so long since I'd last seen him in anything, I'd mistakenly thought he had already passed ;_( ... I think I'd confused him with Dean Martin (another "triple-threat" entertainer who had experienced troubles with alcohol); or another different celeb from that era.
Glad to learn that Dick is still with us and doing well. May he make it to well into his centenarian years! :)

The battle with alcohol is a troubling condition to live with! The most important part of sobriety is to take it one day at a time! I drowned myself for 24 years inside of the bottle and now just about nearing my 17th year of sobriety! I also fought another addiction with tobacco for 26 1/2 years and am working on my 7th year tobacco free! Just take life and living one day at a time free of two deadly addictions is a great step for my health and wellbeing! Keep working on your sobriety, Dick!

Even before then there were marriages on radio and in front of crowds just for sensationalism. I seem to remember there was a famous set of Siamese Twins that got married on the radio (and in front of a crowd). They were women and I can't remember who they married. Ah, it was Daisy and Violet Hilton, and the year was 1936.

I still watch reruns of the Dick Van Dyke Show on Roku and watched the first runs as a child. He and Mary Tyler Moore danced a lot on that show. It's unbelievable that he had no dance experience before joining a Broadway cast. I believe he and Larry Matthews (born the same month and year as me) are the only two still living from that show. Because of where I lived, I could not readily go see Mary Poppins, but there was a special night on TV for 'Bye Bye, Birdie.' I recall another funny movie about a town that tries to quit smoking together for the prize money. Still dancing in the Mary Poppins remake is amazing!

One night, the horses were going crazy out in the corral. A mountain lion had jumped on the back one of the horses and scratched it up pretty bad. They were able to save the horse. Dick shot the mountain lion and had it turned into a rug. I feel proud to be one of the few people who sat on that rug in their living room. Ah those were the days....

When I began realizing that my prayers for people were having results (back in 1979), I then added him (& Julie Andrews, & Carol Burnette, & Tim Conway, & Bill Cosby--- all my favorite comedians) to my prayer list, knowing that they're real people, too, even though Hollywood has a way of making them look otherwise. I still love him dearly, & pray for him & his family. It was like a "toss-up", for me, between his movies Mary Poppins, & Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, that had him "break through" into my heart for ever since. Even though I heard him say he had a GRRREAT time filming Mary Poppins, & NOT a happy time filming Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, I'm still eternally grateful he did the latter, too! I loved him from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and only watched his show after immigrating to the US. He mentioned himself that he went to rehab after he started drinking cocktails after his work day but this was (he said this) during the 60s. When a couple has 4 kids and not have a hateful relationship, of course the couple stayed very close.
I liked his series "Diagnosis Murder" from the late 90s which also has his son (Barry) and grandsons acting! His dance ability, he's so lanky/wiry (Laura described him as that) that he's bound to pick up any dance he wants to try...and the talent he has is unbelievable!

I loved him as Rob Petrie, loved the Dick Van Dyke Show as a child, he and MTM had such chemistry! And I loved him also on Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, so many great childhood memories, and no, I didn't know he couldn't dance😍

The entire cast on the old Dick Van Dyke show were so good. When a rerun comes on tv I stop what I’m doing and watch.

I saw him back in the early 1980’s playing “The Music Man” in Reno Nev. at the Sahara Casino. I still have his autograph on a napkin 🥰

One of the most entertaining people of all time. I would never have guessed that he carried so much baggage. Bless him. 👏 👏 👏
