YaYa is now living in Beijing Zoo after the quarantine in Shanghai, but same as another old panda which is spending its rest of "retired life" at that zoo, they are currently not out for display. But the official Weibo (a Chinese social media) account of Beijing Zoo is posting YaYa's status every week. According to what I see so far, she has at least gained 12kg of weight within this one month in Shanghai. The skin disease has also gotten much better. It's clearly not like what the Mephis Zoo was saying, they said it can't be cured because it's some genetic issue and also because she's old, but I can see from the videos and pictures that Beijing Zoo has posted, that most of the fur has grown back, only the part on the back still needs more time to recover.
Thanks for your concern for our national animal, we all appreciate it.

In spite of her genetic skin disease, YAYA is tough as she has outlived her 4 siblings who passed away before the age of 10 in China. I agree with you that it will take time, more like months or years. If a cure has been found (I hope it is not prednisone or the likes), animal fur takes at least 4 to 6 weeks to show, and more than 3 months to fully grow. Have you seen the panda that Qi Zai bit the black fur off his right ear last year - the black fur on the ear has still not grown back. I saw a video yesterday showing YAYA with fur, but that is not scientifically possible in 4 days from the day she landed in Shanghai.

Maybe it's genetic running in some lines, guess more study will show but equally it is probably just as random as it is in the human population [and might also be caused by bad eating habits, some panda bears only like specific bamboo parts - eg leaves but not the canes or the shoots or one species only that is only available at a specific time of the year - which can cause as many issues as humans only eating certain food stuffs. Not all bamboo is the same, some are more carbohydrate while others are more sugars and starches and the latter can cause issues in species other than just humans].

😂her hair 'problem' has already healed up to 80% now. Genetic skin issues my ass, it's just the same as any skin issues with any pet; You put on medications! Duh!

Now I'm curious where'd u got the "facts" from? I said she's recovering because i saw vids of her with my own eyes, don't tell me they editted or anything, bcuz not everything can be editted. I can see not only the skin condition and the environment she's living in, and the food she's having. If u do not know, do not spread rumours.

Y’all are dramatic, acting like this panda was being tortured in Guantanamo. Meanwhile the Chinese government confirmed that they were taken care and in good health with the exception of any genetic skin disease but go on and perpetuate your fantasy.

Don't lease any more pandas to the USA again! They're just royally bad at handling them! I won't even use the phrase "taking care" because its obviously absent to them.

So you've personally examined the pandas in Washington and Atlanta have you, and you have PROOF that they are being badly treated. Or is this just some stupid anti US remarks. I'm not what you would call pro-USA in any way at all but not even I would take that attitude towards the US out on innocent animals. Seems some humans just don't care for animals at all.

Tell that to the Chinese panda experts who are veterinarians, geneticists, etc. Are you a panda animal care expert, panda veterinarian, panda geneticists? The Chinese experts have categorically said the USA takes good care of their pandas.
