We are heartbroken. But we knew they were to return to their homeland. I saw them in person many times. They were happy and well taken care of. May they continue to live happy lives in their homeland.

As a biologist, I am not aware of any pandas tortured in America. Lun Lun and Yang Yang are 26. Tian Tian is 26 and Mei Xiang is 25. LeLe (25) outlived several pandas who also died this year, such as Cheng Gong (22), Lin Hui (21), Bao Xin (1 year and 9 months), and Xiao Huancai (one year old). Let's focus on the positive for the sake of the pandas. Through collaboration the world can continue to improve the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric care for all pandas.

I could listen to these keepers all day talking about this charming family of pandas. I would love to hear in detail regarding their personalities, traits, and differences among them.

How quiet it must be for staff at the Smithsonian Zoo who have worked with giant pandas over the years.
Empty yards and enclosures~empty seats from which volunteers documented panda behavior observed from a bank of video screens~an empty chair from which the 24-hour panda cam was manned. And now the empty hearts of staff and visitor/viewers of Tian Tian, Mei Xiang, and their dear cub, Xiao Qi Ji. 😢

Thanks to these people who are really fond of pandas. Thanks to their big heart. But I'm also thankful that all the pandas overseas will be sent back to China. For me, pandas are safer in China. They are more loved and will be healthier there.

We love them so much here in the USA, they’re well taken care of too. Take good care of them for us. I know they will be fine but it’s just really sad

    • @swissotto1

The geriatric bears are a testament to the GOOD treatment they received from the Smithsonian. Your Chinese scientist stated they are in good condition. As far as love, why can’t you leave it that both sides dearly love these animals. We should be united on that point.

They are loved greatly in America, that is why there were many tears over the last months. I saw them in person many times just this year. Every time I saw them I can attest to their happiness and how much they were loved by all that came to the National Zoo. We hope they will adapt well and continue to live happy lives. Why? Because it was heartbreaking to see the sad eyes of the french prince Yuan Meng during his first months back in his homeland. I saw how hard his keepers worked to make him feel at home. Now he is doing much better.
