Don't worry about asking questions. In many ways this remake is continuing the work of the book and original miniseries by introducing new audiences to Japanese history and culture.
This was filmed primarily in Vancouver and the meticulous passion for the art is evident in every scene.
The original miniseries focused mainly on Blackthorn and played quite a bit as a "fish out of water" story. It was Western audiences first real exposure to Japanese culture, so it made sense to focus on the European POV. They did go out of their way to star Japanese actors from the time, like the great Toshiru Mifune, but it was made for Westerners.
This version is made for audiences already somewhat familiar with the culture so it's storytelling is more Japanese Centric. Additionally Hiruyoki Sanada wanted to dispel a lot of the Samurai tropes in both Western and Japanese film making so special attention was placed on the historical accuracy of sets, dialogue and costumes.
It does a very good job of conveying the chaos that occurs during the natural cross-pollination of cultures.
As you pointed out, they each see the "other" as uncivilized which shows that arrogance is a universally human quality and not limited to any single society.
A lot of people make The Game of Thrones comparison but really I think that's just because GOT was a complex story told and acted well (to a point lol) just like this, but this is more "House of Cards" than GOT IMHO.

Yeah. I don't think it's similar to game of thrones so much with the story, just learning the characters and their motives. It's a great show so far.

Hi ! I just found your channel while looking for Shogun reactions .. thank you for checking out this fantastic show your commentary and reactions were great and entertaining! The show is based on a 2 book novel written by James Clavell , but most of the main characters in the book and in the show are based on real historical figures and events during that time period, just the names have been changed. Hiroyuki Sanada ( plays Yoshii Toranaga ) one of the main actors , who is also a producer of this show and wanted it to be as authentic to Japanese culture as possible so that he may share it better with the world , I am so glad and hope you continue to enjoy it ! I laughed so hard when you called Yabushige a Cuck.. lmfao..!

6:49 Yes, those were the consequences of his actions. Him and the baby are gone. If he wasn't such a hothead and just let his lord 'play the game', he wouldn't have embarrassed his entire clan in front of four of the most powerful clans at the time -- who were already scheming to end theirs after the previous shogun passed.
And the mom couldn't just run away to the woods with the baby either. They wouldn't last a week -- no food, bandits roaming the countryside, and bears. And they can't just relocate to another town outside their lord's dominion -- they'd be taken hostage by rival clan and would've made things worse for theirs.

At that time, there were missionaries, and they mainly engaged in missionary work in Japan and the destruction of the original religion in Japan. In addition, it was also important to sell Japanese people as slaves to foreign countries. As a result, Christianity was expelled.

I figured there were some misinterpreted l missionaries there. I guess I was just surprised at how many people had been converted to Christianity by that point

Hello Ambybambiboo, How was your week, everything okay?
Here in my country it is available on Disney+ but with the R18 classification and parental control to avoid problems. The series is interesting. I really like your reaction video to the series 😊❤️✨

@@puppetmaster8551 I stopped watching shows all together during the 4th season of game of thrones. TV isn't for me anymore, boring, emotionally manipulative garbage, massive waste of time!
Actually I did watch 3 season of Stranger Things, but again, lame kids drama, massive waste of time, emotionally manipulative, endlessly meandering. But I'm sure that's not your show, right? If it's a bummer for anybody, it ain't gonna be mine! There is no such thing as good modern TV.

@@Nicolas.Vincent you sound miserable holy shit, there is so much good tv out there. Shogun is a fantastic adaptation of a great and legendary book, extremely authentic, amazing actors, fantastic writing. You truly just sound like an absolutely miserable person to try and act like all tv is some horrible boring manipulative garbage. Good tv is not much different than good film especially in this day and age
