    It was 82º at my house today and I needed to put on a hoodie while I watched this video. Great work sticking it out.

      Actually, 82° sounds good right now. Thanks for watching! 😊

    1:07:20 Great flames in the stacks of those Amtrak locos. Only visible at night.

    Nice video. It appears snow removal on a RR is quite a time consuming event. Well documented.

    6:18 crazy amtrak! Baggage car in the middle of train! Do you think the people riding go through the baggage car?

    Thanks for the enjoyable video! I'm curious what is causing all the heat waves in this scene at 7:57. TY!

    • @GreatNorthernTech
      @GreatNorthernTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. The heat waves are from the switch heaters that are used to keep the moving part of the switch from icing up. They use Propane as fuel. 😊

      @@GreatNorthernTech I figured it had to be something along those lines. Thanks for the detailed & prompt explanation!! Now I can impress a granddaughter with how clever I am should the subject ever arise. LOL

    I definitely see why you can’t make a train set lay out without mountains and heavy green forests and snow .The only way to build your own layout and big .I love HO scale

    Montana is really scenic state from gentle rolling plains to the mighty Rocky Mountains! Seen it during the ride on the Empire Builder in May 2020!

    If you anticipate wind, why not get a windsock, or whatever they're called?

      Called a Dead Cat. Already using one. It would have a lot worse without one. 😊

    At 1:07.20 if it was just one of them with flames in the stack I'd think there was something wrong with it! No wonder those genesis locomotives sound so good. Great catch and a great film thanks.

      @GreatNorthernTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They definitely can put on a flame show. Thanks for watching!

    Your winter videos are epic, but I have a favor to ask. I plan on railfanning from Sandpoint to Essex and from Missoula to Bozeman come the fall. Do I need to rent an off road vehicle like a jeep to get to the important must see locations or would a truck with rear wheel drive do? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    • @GreatNorthernTech
      @GreatNorthernTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A truck with rear wheel drive should be fine unless your in ice or snow. Fall should be OK unless a early snow comes. Thanks for watching! 😊

    How much time does it take to warm up these machines in such a hell cold?

    • @GreatNorthernTech
      @GreatNorthernTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless they need to be shut off for maintenance they usually run 24/7.

      @@GreatNorthernTech So I wonder how the drivers keep themselves warm during night shifts.

    Amtrak could really make their rail cars much more nice Dr than they are now by far. To go back in time of fine dining cars , the golden era of Dining by rail . The club cars , Dining cars Coach cars sleepers.They all need a serious remodeling makeovers are desperately needed . The super Chief ,California Zephyr ,Empire Buider, Broadway Ltd, Orange Blossom Special, 21 Century Ltd . Go

    There’s a lot of controversy around railroads these days especially now with congress stepping in.

    How would the people in Montana survive if it wasn’t for the trains and the interstate highways and the people complain about the government? Who do you think constructs always rail, roads and highways, and rural electric
