    You're such a brilliant man Mr Hunter! I own a Rel T5i and am totally blown away with its performance. It compliments my Tannoy's with amazing sub base. You exude such passion for every sub regardless of size and cost and that's inspiring! I wish you well and so excited to be appart of the Rel Acoustics family!

    I have owned a Carbon Special replaceing the Carbon Limited and it turns my Vimberg Amea standmounts, well 20kg is more than most floorstanders into full range, seamless blending and bass note boom, like having the Vimberg Mino's which woud not fit into my listening space. The sound with and without the Carbon Specials is not even close, they are truly musically Special

    John, my understanding is that the passive radiator should be twice the size (or twice the displacement) of the active driver according to good engineering practice. But in the REL Carbon, both drivers are 12" Does this affect optimal performance given this design or is there a workaround?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for reaching out. In our experience this rule regarding the size of the active driver relative to the passive driver is not necessarily true. Excellent performance can be achieved by using an active driver of the same size as the passive driver, or a passive that is only slightly larger than the active driver. You just wouldn't want to use a passive driver that is smaller than the active driver in most cases.

    Love this model! My only concern is the availability. If I purchase one now and then later decide to stack an identical model, it might not be available which leaves me stuck with two different models of subs 😞😤

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While the Carbon Special is a limited availability model, and as a result will not be continuously available year-round, we do intend on continuing to produce the Carbon Special in small batches for the duration of the S/510 and S/812's production run. So as long as you don't wait too long to purchase the second unit, you should still be able to complete a stereo pair in stages for this model.

    For that price, it better go down to at least 18 to 20hz or better at + or - 3db. Update, im very suprised, i looked at the manual, 18hz at -6 db is pretty amazing for a smaller sub like this. I'd say it's worth the 4 grand. Keep it up guys, y'all are amazing. It must be a really fast sub indeed.

    It would be exiting and very helpful if you could afford the R&D to come up with an App that will allow adjustment from a phone, even if you only did it on certain models. It wouldn't have to price compete with the SVS, you appeal to a different customer from the norm (and use a different input system).

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While we don't at this time use App control for any of our models, the No.25 and G1 Mk.II subwoofers both feature remote controls that allow tuning adjustments to be made from the listening position.

    What would you say are the main differences between this sub and the no 25. Would this pair well with a Klipsch RF7 III for movies and a Klipsch la scala for music? Would you recommend stacking in my case?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Carbon Special is an excellent subwoofer, though by comparison the No.25 has a larger driver, improved filter design, and significantly greater cabinet volume, among other differences. The Carbon Special can work well with the Klipsch speaker models that you mentioned, though when you have a chance feel free to write in to contactus@rel.net and we will be happy to provide a subwoofer pairing recommendation specific to your system.

    Greetings,
    I have a question: I already have a pair of SVS SB-16. If I buy a pair of Carbon Special for my main L&R speakers, can I connect them with both the high-level signal and the LFE signal? In other words, can I play the LFE in both the Carbon Special and the SVS SB-16 Ultra?
    Thank you

    I shared the scepticism of many older enthusiasts regarding sub-woofers but couldn't find a single negative review from my 'go-to' audiophiles (Steve Guttenberg, Ken Kesler, Steve Huff, Pursuit Perfect System, to a name a few) so I splashed out on the Carbon Special. I was a bit ham-fisted at first with the crossover and volume controls - the sound swinging from too much to too little bass. I then learnt that single clicks make a noticeable difference. Result - bigger soundstage, more 'weight' to everything, and a holographic image with many recordjngs. And mentioning recordings, I've found than modern recordings (typically since the 2000s but many from the last ten years) need tweaking a notch down on the cross-over and volume. All in all a 'sound' purchase - and to use a cliche, a sub-woofer is the single most 'inexpensive' purchase you can make to improve your system.

    • @RELAcoustics

      The Carbon Special is able to deliver performance close to that of the G1 Mk.I and Mk.II models, though the G1 subwoofers will still be the higher performing option. The Carbon Special is intended to give performance close to that of our Reference subwoofer models, but from a more compact cabinet size.

    what you recommend? two carbon special vs two 212sx or 212se? speakers are vienna acoustic mahlers -play down to 22hz. for music only. separate ht room. i play music loud and task speakers and subs. g1 and #25 subs are too big to have two subs in the music room and i want stereo subs. i could run one #25 or one stack -not stereo. thoughts? currently run one velodyne dd+ 18 sub, which has failed. thoughts? i guess that i could eventually stack carbon specials? and the space large. when i have systems syncronized and playing, i have three 18" subs, two 12" subs, three 10" subs and a total of 5300 watts of continuous high current power. the high powered subs run off dedicated 20a circuits. point is that i have the volume to run many large subs.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on your description of the room and system, we recommend a stereo pair of 212/SX subwoofers as being the best option for pairing with your Vienna Acoustics Mahler speakers. • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@damytzeus The 212/SX is the current equivalent to the now-discontinued 212/SE, though improvements and upgrades were made when designing the 212/SX which result in it not being a perfect tonal match. If you currently have a 212/SX in your system, then the best option for forming a stereo pair will be to add a second matching 212/SX.

    I have two T7i.When I am not listening to music, do I need to turn off the power of the subwoofer?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can power off your T/7i subwoofers when you are not listening to the system if you wish, though for optimal performance and improved product lifespan we recommend leaving the subwoofers powered on at all times. This results in less wear on the subwoofers' electrical components due to power cycling, and ensures that it's amplifier remains at a stable operating temperature.

    Anybody have a sub-woofer that produces a low frequency quiet hum?. It is not the sub-woofer itself (I don't think). I can leave it plugged in and powered on and there will be NO HUM if I disconnect the inter-connect cables that are plugged from my sub to my AMP. Can the AMP itself cause a ground loop? I heard a "Isolation Transformer/Ground Loop Hum Eliminator" might help? Any suggestions? I like to listen to Jazz a lot and that music can be dynamic. Even though the hum is not very loud - During quiet passages in Jazz the noise can be very noticeable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for reaching out, and we are sorry to hear about the hum that you are experiencing. If the subwoofer only hums when it is connected to your system's main amplifier, then the hum that you are hearing is likely the result of a ground loop in your system, rather than the subwoofer itself being defective. When you have a chance, please write in to contactus@rel.net with the serial number for your subwoofer and a brief description of the equipment in your system and we will be happy to assist with resolving this hum.

      @@RELAcoustics Thank-you for getting back to me. I am sorry I was not more clear. I was just asking in general about HUMMING and Sub-woofers. I read from a few different sources that it could be a common problem with any sub-woofer? I do not have a REL - I have a JL Audio sub. : ) I think it was my interconnects because I changed them and the humming has gone away for now. I was using a pair of audioquest Yukon cables (very expensive btw and I only purchased them because the review that I read said they were good for sub-woofers and bass frequencies - careful folks) and they seemed to have added the noise? It could be the AMP though? Maybe it is the source of the ground loop hum? But, I am not sure just yet - like I said there is no hum right now with the synergistic research interconnects.. Fingers crossed.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jwblue575 If the hum went away when you changed to different RCA cables, then the original RCAs were likely the source of the hum. It is tough to say specifically why this was the case, but in the end as long as the hum has been resolved then I wouldn't worry about it too much.
      We hope that this helps, but feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

      @@RELAcoustics Thank you I have already contacted you guys, these were just follow up as I am reading more about REL from various sources to help in my decision making.
      I was asking specially for the Klipsch RC64 III center channel along with La Scala's for the Left and the right. I wish you guys updated your site to match subwoofers for the Klipsch line of speakers.
      I noticed in my reading on the audioholics forums that REL subwoofers can improve the Sub bass for speakers that already have a bass component but may not be the best fit if the actual speaker itself does not go down low.
      Its seems odd to me.
      For example I was thinking that since the Klipsch La Scalas go down to 50z it would have been great to pair it with a pair of REL no 25's but I am hearing that I might need to have multiple subwoofers per speaker to take care of the various frequencies that the actual speaker does not play.
