Great video. Back in the 1980s Revlon made a great little repair kit with papers and a clear product that you applied it with. It was brilliant and lasted through washes, polish changes etc and was fantastic for growing out cracks really far back. I wish they would bring it back. Instead of cutting you tore it and the little fibres added to the strength.
Wendy Bond: Look for the Nail Tek Nail Repair Kit at ULTA, Brush-On Nail Repair at Bed Bath & Beyond, & Supernail Nail Bandage Instant Nail Repair. Personally I use ASP nail glue and nail powder. I've used fiberglass and tea bags, they don't last long for me. My way there is no obvious texture difference and lasts longer.
Very helpful. I'm learning classical guitar, and split my "i" fingernail. Working great now. Using the nail buffer was a great idea! Thanks so much, Liz!
Omg i have to try this when i get home!! Im very connected to my nails bc i used to bite them all the time so when one tears it can be a bit upsetting for me. Thank you for posting this it'll be a life saver!! X3
Using your tutorial, I was able to save 2 of my nails today. I used super glue instead of base coat as I wanted to be sure it would hold up if it worked. I was also shampooing my hair today and needed to rely on these nails to stay strong. It worked beautifully and I am very grateful!
Thanks Liz. I suffer regularly from cracks on both thumb and pointer fingers and have done for years! Finally I watch your video and see a way forward. I will, one day and with your expert tips and tricks, get the nails I would love and which god definitely did not give me. Thanks.
Tried your technique....... worked like a charm! Brilliant suggestion ! Thank you sooooooo very much!!!!! My nail grew back very quickly ,and was amazed how strong it began to grow again! Your nail repair idea was a blessing, especially during COVID, as I do not go to the nail salon at this very critical time. I found your video on TH-cam just at the right time as well and had to repair another nail about a month later! Your nail technique worked perfectly again! Told a friend about it, and she found your nail repair idea to be fantastic, just as I did! Thank you again, Liz!!! , ,
Thank you for this video! I always have cracks on the sides of my nails. They always tear into the nail bed, so they are SO sore, and will even bleed. Now I know I can prevent that! Love all your videos!
You are so gorgeous! I need your skin care routine. Glad I found your channel. I just cracked my nail and it's been getting caught on everything. So happy I can repair it and not have to just cut it off too short. Thanks!
Well I googled fix a cracked finger nail and clicked on this, LIFESAVER, exactly what I was looking for, I have tea bags now to find clear nail polish in my wife's drawer, thank you thank you!!, I can't wait to try this, cheers 🤠
Omg!!! Thank you so much. I had two broken nails and I didn’t want go to CVS to get crazy glue. I used clear nail polish and worked well. Thank you that is amazing 🙏🙏🙏
I just thought about this 2 days ago. Your video autoplayed in the background and I ran to watch this. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I couldn't find any silk strips in my area because of my state being quarantined and the nail supply stores being closed. Thank you!!
Just started growing out my nails a little since I started supplementing, and I made a big crack on the side of one of them. I don't wear nail polish or have glue but I do have clear nail polish for other projects and tea bags. This will help immensely, thank you!
I put aside the gule. The outcome has shown to be much healthier, For my nails, eyelashes, and hair. Recently I got a chipped nail. I didn't want to cut it, so I Found this video. WOW! 😲This works. 💯 Thank you for sharing this tip. 👍👍From A new subscriber!👍
I've been trying to grow my natural nails and all has been going well, except for the other day I hit it at work and it cracked like yours but since my nails are longer though, I knew if I didn't do anything it was gonna rip bad...I used paper towel with 1ply as it was the only thing near me, it worked great! Now that I've seen this video I know how to better refine it when it comes time to change out my gel polish and recover the crack. At least until it's grown out enough that I can clip it
My nails are so thin from wearing acrylic nails for 30+ years that they hurt, I've started using tea bags, I put it on the tip of my nails and put several coats of base gel to make them thicker, file to smooth, use gel color and a gel top coat. It works amazing, doesn't chip or peel.
I had to remove my gel at home due to the virus, and now I have a split in one of the nails. Thanks for this as I thought I was doomed to catch it on everything. I m so gonna try this and hope it will work with just regular polish over it. Not gel at home. Might you do a video for us under these emergency nail conditions?
Thanks for the tip Liz! Please, can you do a video with all the gel base coat work in natural nail including the protective overlay and the correct form to work with diferent systems as you told us in your video...Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video I’ve tried tea bags before but with glue. I just broke a nail again and I had to find a way to fix the little bigger than hairline crack. The nail is now fixed and all nails are gel base and top coated ready for my next nail strip polish mani. I may even seal that in with another base and top coat of gel to give me a little extra strength wear out of the polish :)
Great tips! I've used tea bags many times. Coffee filters and super glue when in a pinch. I prefer cheap filters. They're thinner. So, less filing to even it out. Sally Hansen also has brush on glue. Not long lasting by any means, but if you have a break far back (Ouch!!!,) it can be a life saver.
Thank you. I just broke a long natural nail on its side and this video saved my nail. It broke in a way that if I were to cut it, it would hurt way too much. Much love
Thank you for your clever tea bag idea, your so ingenious! The breakings i have to fix are mostly fixable with gel. I have silk but never used it. Change of subject, i have a client that has very large nails, she hates it so much. I can't wait to try your pinching technique with gel on her. Hope it will make her less large nails.
I had a split on my finger and tried polish and even superglue but after the failed attempts and a nail that all it even further I tried this and can finally say I found some relief. Thank you so much for showing this and helping with my nail problem😊💜
Thank you, I've had a problem with 2 nails that have cracked too far down to cut them out yet, I have tried filing them down and redoing the gel for them to just keep cracking! Which can be so painful, this worked a treat, many thanks
This is such a great trick! I think it's very good that you include it in your series. Funnily enough I think this is better known among hobbyists than professionals, perhaps because they have fewer other options?
Wonderful tutorial! I've seen some use silk for similar cracks, but your up-close views and explanations were really helpful for SEEING what you were talking about. Since I'm not really a tea drinker, I think I might opt for getting some silk. Thank you so much!
Great video Liz! What an awesome tip. I have a client who has a cracking problem with her skin around her nails free edge that I’ve been trying to figure out how to stop. Maybe you have the answer. Her skin always cracks by the corners of the free edge and down her side wall. Do you have any experience as to why this is happening? I told her to keep them moisturized but I’m not sure if it’s helping or if she’s just not doing it. I have yet to find any help or answer. Poor girl. She thought it was the gel overlay causing it to crack but she took a break from gel nails and it still happens. 🤷🏼♀️
She could be allergic to soap or something. My mom gets that when she uses dish soap. I would recommend she see a dermatologist and also she should keep a log of what she gets on her hands on a daily basis. People often apply all kinds of things regularly without thinking about it and it definitely sounds like dryness but could also be caused by an allergic reaction. An MD is best to help her.
Hi. I am relatively new to your channel but I am finding it so helpful already. I was just wondering if you have tried Polygel or any like that yet? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Maybe an idea for a video?
This just changed my life.. Do you have any tips for at home gel nail beginners? Such as what gel brands, light brands, or full kits as well? I'm a bit out of my depth here and reluctant to throw money at product that will fail me but I'm ready to start! If anyone has any suggestions, would be appreciated!
The problem with nail glue is it doesn't work well on everything and it is such a brittle product that it breaks down quickly. Gel also has a hard time adhere to nail glue. With acrylic a lot of people apply right over glue with no problems, but gel does not like glue.
@@TheNailHub I guess my experience has been atypical, then. I lay the nail glue over the break, lay the tea bag on top of that, then more glue, let dry, buff, and do gel polish manicure over that. It lasts weeks. And, it takes a couple of acetone soak offs before I have to redo the repair (the glue lasts). Maybe I'm using bionic nail glue or something. 😂 I am eager to try the tea bag with gel polish next. Although, the hard gel overlay you've advised me on from my previous questions has really fixed my one nail that splits, to the point I don't even need the tea bag patch.

Ive also used coffee filters but mostly been using toilet paper for years cuz it is fibrous n tears apart easily. If you pull the end instead of cutting you wont see a definite line when patching a long nail. Then you can still encapsulate with gel or acrylic.
So I forgot to do my IBX treatment before I did my set. A few days ago I slammed my non-dominant index finger in such a way that the whole enhancement ripped off and I have a deep crack that lifted from my nail plate and tore my hyponychium. It's no longer hurting, but i'm worried if I don't repair it, it'll completely crack the tiny amount that's holding it on. Would it be safe to do the IBX treatment before doing the repair? When you file in between layers of gel, won’t the filings stick to the tacky layer? I’m currently following along to your video and am not sure if I should wipe off the sticky-ness then file and then apply the gel again? Or... This might be an obvious answer to most so I’m sorry if it is but, my tear is almost from side to side so I want to get it right the first time to avoid a painful removal:/ Please help! Thank you!! Hi, I just broke my nail as I was due for a refill. I have acrylic powder on my own nails, no extensions. My nails are very long now and my pinkie broke right across my nail bed. It was/is painful. The nail broke just above where the nail bed starts. There is still enough nail bed under it that the nail still holds on but it cracks and bleeds every time I bump it against something. I have a nail appointment where they will have to file and refill. Should I try your method or just cut it off? I am currently trying to hold it in place with a bandaid as it has not broken off completely. Any thoughts would be appreciated. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I use gel cleanser, which is normally mostly isopropyl alcohol with a little bit of acetone in it. I have a video here on my channel about how to make your own gel cleanser, and I highly recommend you watch it.
Thank you, thank you, Liz!!! I’m always learning so much when I visit your channel. I can’t wait to try this on a client of mine. 💜

Wow love this.
Do you have to use gel for this????
What did you clean your nail with after the top coat?
I use gel cleanser, which is normally mostly isopropyl alcohol with a little bit of acetone in it. I have a video here on my channel about how to make your own gel cleanser, and I highly recommend you watch it.
