    My guess as to why he doesn't front squat - his upper back/front rack aren't a limiting factor, at this point his limiting factors are probably tiny (invisible to 99% of us) technical inefficiencies and he just wants to maintain his strength/speed ratio. The load it must take to challenge his legs must still be high enough that it would tax his upper back too much to get enough volume in and if his upper back was too taxed, then it would affect the classic lifts/variations too much to merit the cost

    For some weightlifters especially tall ones their front squat form is different from their clean form and the front squat doesn't transfer effectively to their clean. In fact in some cases it lowers it either phycologically or mechanically. Because a heavy front squat is a much easier clean. They have two options try and match their front squat form to their clean which involves a faster descent or trying to match the spontaneous foot position one achieves in a clean or drop it all together. Or it could be a wrist thing bigger guys have that problem also.

    In Bulgaria we believe that if a lifter can do 3 reps front squat of a certain weight , he/she should be able to clean and jerk the same weight also. If not - the person have to train more technique. In most of our weightlifting clubs the front squat is done in the morning sesions and the back squat for the evening ones.

    I think Lasha only back squats because it's more of an advantage to him. Because he's 6FT he's probably going to be more hamstring dominant so even when he's coming up from a front squat his hamstrings still play a bigger role than it would for shorter lifters. Just my guess

      Heavy wights have less muscle mass percentage than light weights, also longer limbs, so a 120 kg lifter isn't supposed to be 2x stronger than a 60

    • @daleftuprightatsoldierfield
      @daleftuprightatsoldierfield 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strength doesn’t go up in a direct proportion to mass. They increase in accordance with the square-cube law. Take a 1 cm x 1 cm x 1 cm cube with a mass of 1 g. The area of the base supporting that mass is 1 cm^2. Each cm^2 of the base is supporting 1 gram of mass. If you then double the dimensions of the cube, so it is now a 2 x 2 x 2 cube with the same density, its mass is now 8 g while the area of its base is only 4 cm^2. Now, each cm^2 is is supporting 2 grams of mass. Strength in humans increases in a similar fashion. A person who weighs 120 kg would be expected to be 2^(2/3), or roughly 1.58 times as strong as a person with the same body fat and muscle percentages who weighs 60 kg. Of course other factors come into account that would limit a heavier lifter even more, such as the fact that more muscle mass requires a higher caloric intake to maintain. This higher caloric intake in turn creates more fat, which adds extra mass that doesn’t contribute to strength.

  • @dominickloka9758
    @dominickloka9758 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lydia Valentin doesn't front squat either. In this interview (around 9 min. into it ... th-cam.com/video/sd52EqilNRg/w-d-xo.html ) she said that front squats caused her some pain in the lower back and she along with her coach decided to leave it out of her program, and she never had this lower back issue again... and it doesn't affect her clean at all!
    For some lifters, doing back squats and heavy cleans is enough. Lasha is probably in this case.

    The reason why many olympic lifters do only backsquat is because it is more comfortable for them. With front squats you cannot really go all out, your one rep max FS won't represent your total squat strength.

  • @GreyPower83
    @GreyPower83 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The squats can be explained by the lifters leverages and body weight. Some lifters leverage better training front squat, while others use back squat or work in both. But the truth is a squat is a squat, so I believe either way they’re getting the results from squatting

    • @WeightliftingHouse
      @WeightliftingHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been this way for a long time now. I don't know exactly when it changed, but at some point it went from a legal snatch (just with very light weight), to basically meaning that you just have to get it overhead without bending the knees. No problem with that, but some people prefer the older, lighter, method.

    Add to Brandon´s explanation that, according to Mark Rippetoe, you should only ever front squat when actually doing Olympic Lifting as the front squat due to the altered balance point removes a large part of the involvement of the glutes and hamstrings making for a weaker general position when building actual strength.
    For this the back squat is superior.
    No need to strength build a weak position,- for weak positions practise drills, mobility and technique,- like snatch grip deadlifts etc.,- build strength in strong positions,- and then lift as heavy as you can.

      don't forget that he cleans the weight plus his body weight so he cleans about 435 kg.

    The back squat always supercedes the front squat if training for strength.

    When you said at some point "the strongest man in the world" the guys from strongman came to mind. Do you believe Lasha could deadlift 500kg if he went for it?

      Jorge VS yes i hate calling somebody wsm because he is best weightlifter/powerlifter, wsm is is title for strongmans, you can call it strongest weightlifter..

    A lot of strongmen talking about him recently. Not sure why he'd leave a sport where he's on top to something he's inexperienced in. Wonder what his static pressing and benching would be like anyway...

      Strongman doesnt have bench press, that would be powerlifting.

    Dude i really like Weightlifting and shit but "strongest" man in the world is such a cringe statement... hes the strongest weightlifter for shure but noone knows if hes the strongest man and i really doubt that he is with strongman juiced to their head and like 30kg heavier than him. With 350 or whatever he squats he would prolly be barely qualify for WSM and i dont think he can deadlift 450+ so he prolly has no chance of becoming first or even second on a current WSM competition. Even if he wouldnt be drug testet we dont know if he has much more potential as he was already juicing and prolly is at this moment. Eddy Hall almost strict pressed his snatch WR so dunno.

    He is not the strongest man in the world, he is the strongest weightlifter in the world, if he competes against people like Brian Shaw, Martins Licis, Hafthor Bjonsson, Mateusz Kieliszkowski and others in a strongest man competition he won't even end up last.

    Not hating but lasha is almost 400 pounds so he should be doing moving the big weight he’s moving haha..idk why some consider him the greatest..I give more props to the guys that are 160 pounds cleaning over 400 pounds but hey that’s just my opinion 🤪

    • @WeightliftingHouse
      @WeightliftingHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cleaning 400lbs weighing 160lbs is nowhere near as impressive as someone Lasha doing what he does. We have enough of a sample pool now to know what is comparable between body weights. Only 10 other weightlifters ever, none from the last two decades, compare to Lasha in this way.

      Maybe it’s just me but it’s way more impressive seein someone super lean move big weight no matter how many ppl in one weight category can do similar weight..not many ppl can weigh what lasha weighs so of course he’s gonna be in a league of his own 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @AndreaAustoni
      @AndreaAustoni 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChristopherWB The lift to bodyweight ratio is not a good metric. It always favors lighter athletes. You'll never see a huge guy like Lasha squat 4x BW.
