This episode of Lucy and Pat Collins is one of my real favorite ones and she does such a great job along with Mr. Mooney and they both get hypnotized and it’s really good that there is that she had Pat Collins as well as her special guest on the show thank you so much Lucille Ball you really gave me and a lot of other people plenty of laughs.
Back in the early 1990s, I was in Las Vegas on vacation. By coincidence, I'd seen this episode of The Lucy Show with Pat Collins a few weeks earlier. Pat Collins was doing her show in Vegas so we went to see the 2nd (late) show. It was very entertaining. After the show, Pat came out a few minutes later to sign autographs and to promote her self-help cassettes. I told her how much we enjoyed the show and said it must be tiring doing two shows a night and being on that late. She told me that before the 2nd show, she would put herself in a trance state so she'd feel alert and energized and stay in that state for the entire show. After the show, she'd bring herself out of that state just before she came out to meet the audience members. I mentioned seeing the Lucy episode and she told me the story of the filming. She said she was working at her club and they'd asked her to come do an episode so they could show her doing a hypnosis stage show and have the characters react. She said her schedule didn't permit her to be there every day for the rehearsals, so they told her when it came to the section about the show, she could do what she normally does to start her show, which I presume is the explanation about what hypnosis is (which she does well and is very information in a very short time). She then did her standard hypnosis induction patter. She was then to give the "participants" suggestions so they could show some routines. She said that at the dress rehearsal she thought Lucy might be responding to the induction but Lucy said she was okay. At the taping, Pat said that Lucy actually tranced without them realizing it. When she asks Lucy what she does for a living, Pat said that Lucy, instead of saying she was a secretary, responded as Lucille Ball and said "I own this whole damn studio". The audience cracked up. Pat said she took Lucy backstage and tranced her and told her for the rest of the taping, even if she was in trance, she would play the part of Lucy Carmichael. The best hypnosis subjects are people who are highly creative and/or highly intelligent, so it's not surprising Lucy would go into trance. What's interesting is if you watch her reactions near the end of the show, after Pat has emerged her from trance back at the table with Mr. Mooney, she looks a bit out of it which happens to some people who've been hypnotized for a while, they are still somewhat in a trance at first. At one point she rubs her eye a bit which again is what someone coming out of trance may do. In viewing the episode, I believe Pat that Lucy was in trance during the taping. Sadly, Pat Collins passed away in 1997, and Lucy in 1989.
The actress playing the fur model is Georgia Holt...Cher's mom. She also played one of the Jacque Marcel models in the I love Lucy episode when Lucy was in Paris.
She *really* hypnotized Lucy during rehearsal and when asks who she was and what she did the answer came out: "I am Lucy Ball and I own this studio" = LOL
The best part is when Miss Pat tells the group to,become monsters and Mr. Mooney is about to strangle Mrs. Carmichael. What an entertaining episode. If those who are asking what the name of the song Miss Pat is singing is the one towards the end of the episode, it is called “That’s All” by Nat King Cole.
Marion Lorne was in this episode …..she appears as a customer at the coat show---I'm glad this is the original version of this episode...….. there is a messed-up edited version that came out on The Lucy Show dvd set
I will never forget when I first saw this. It was like vitameatavegamin all over again, laughed until it hurt. The way she sits back at the table while doing the voodoo dance 🤣
Thanks so much for sharing this video. Luciball's such a hillarious person on comedy show I've ever known. I was really relaxed when I watched this video. Hope ad sharing more videos like this. It's wonderful if you can share video's high quality.
I've seen big hair before but this is ridiculous-- in what universe did people think that was attractive?? You could hide a double-decker bus in that hairdo.
A friend of mine used hypnosis to quit smoking but I used self-hypnosis to make myself immune to being hypnotized when I was living in this hippy cult about the same time as the People's Temple mass suicide in the 1970's. Oddly enough I left the commune and became a Reagan Republican shortly thereafter. :)
@@fnchrstphr One of my college degrees is in English and my vocabulary tests in the top tenth percentile so yes "hippy" is a legitimate spelling although like many words from the 1960's it has alternate spellings.
I see you have a psychological problem concerning Miss Ball, since you've denigrated her on three different episodes. That's something you don't see every day. How old are you? Ten? I'm judging primarily from your writing. LMAO
@@Housee01 Just as I thought: a juvenile loudmouth nothing. Are you still compiling that list of "racist native American jokes" Miss Ball is responsible for? 😂😂😂

If only I could travel back to that time just for a day/night. What fun!

Fun factoid. The fur model is *Cher's mom Georgia.* You can hear the sales girl call her by her real name at 1:38 and says "come Georgia"
Wow thank you for that I would never would have known that's Cher's mum
I died when Mary Jane got caught up in the moment and told Lucy she should buy the 35k chinchilla coat! lol 😂

That Pat Collins and her voice are so lovely.

I live for the hypnotist’s style.

You're right! I would have never, ever noticed Aunt Clara in the background, had you not mentioned her.
For those who don’t know who do not know who Marion Long was, she played Samantha’s Aunt Clara in “Bewitched.”
I meant Marion Lorne.
It is not Marion Lorne.
