    It would be really interesting to watch a piece or show about the making of this telescope and it’s history as well as pictures over the years and technology upgrades. Einstein, Hubble, Sagan. Pretty impressive company

      Nah, Earth being destroyed by an asteroid, rouge black hole or GRB sells better than an amazing piece of history that, actually, exists..

    Wow, this give me a good starting point for volunteer work I'm doing this summer with the 36" sister refractor at the Lick Observatory near San Francisco,CA. Unfortunately that scope is no longer available to the public for some safety concerns. Thank you, Ken

      Too close to massive light pollution from san fran too.
      I imagine Yerkea suffers from, not only a warped lens but also proximity to chicago.
      Huge refractor were the big game, a hundred years ago.
      Now, public outreach.

      @@mirzaghalib8659 with such a long focal length the view would be extremely zoomed in, would be looking at a very small patch of sky.. atmospheric distortion limits your maximum resolution.. on many nights the atmosphere limits my 2M telescope so I'm surprised 19M is useable especially at not a very high altitude.

      @andygaras especially with eyepieces that top out at 40mm. They need some 60-100mm observatory class eyepieces, like what siebert makes.
      But I have to say, m13 at the zenith from Palomar mountain in my c11 with 14mm es100 at 200x was one of the best views of it, and 200 attendees at the event got to see it

    Question is why not go for Tele Vue? I wonder what eyepieces they really do use?

    • @Mandragara
      @Mandragara 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The telescope is f/19 - at that focal length Tele Vue's superior correction doesn't really matter. The difference will be transmissivity of the eyepieces, which any premium eyepiece is more-or-less equally good at with modern coating tech

    Yes most telescopes split Albireo. A challenge is to split the component of gamma Andromeda. I have seen it with a 24inch f/15 Cassegrain and 30 and 50mm oculars.
    Which is the closest double star seen with this telescope ?

    • @kamilmoucka6811

      @@joshuafreedman7703 that would be over 8,600x with a .11 millimeter exit pupil lol wayyyyy too much power for even a 40", and way too small an exit pupil to view anything. Too dim to see anything except floaters haha. and dont even get started on seeing conditions... but with a 30 or 35mm at around 550- 650 x, good 1,5mm or so exit pupil on a night of perfect seeing would prob be absolutely unreal

    Too bad they are stuck on one manufacturer, since this telescope would benefit from some long focal length eypieces available in 3 and 4 inch. Even a 55/56 plossl would be a good addition, not to mention a 100mm Kellner or similar. At f19 every design is sharp to the edge

    On the other hand, You can find more information in the observatory pamphlet, which published in 1920 is available at the following link:
