Good job on the sponsorship Chris
👊🦋👍
Yes, I went there immediately to see what their site was all about.
I love the mix of back-handed compliments, jilted-lover moments and plain talking experience that you bring to the channel. It's always a pleasure to listen!
Jonathan, I can with 100% certainty that you have describe me here with your comment
more accurately then anyone in the past has ever done. Well said. I’m giving you a trophy. 🏆😂🦋👊👊👊👊
@@ChrisHornerCycling That reaction is why I'm subscribed!
I was wondering if these TH-cam sponsors were all knuckleheads or if you were turning down deals left and right, finally got a sponsor you’ve just won a stage of the tour de TH-cam!
Chris, I was lucky to speak with you at day one 2012 TdF in Liege. You were arriving in Liege in the team car with Dirk driving. You rolled down the window and I yelled "You belong here!!!" "You earned it!!!". You just laughed. I was pretty psyched that they added you at the last minute. I thought you had earned it that season. I couldn't believe I noticed you in the caravan of cars.
Thanks. 👊🦋🚲🇫🇷
Dirk was great to ride for. 👊🦋
Congratulations on the channel sponsor!
👊🦋
Story Time with Chris should be done from the Chesterfield.
Hehehe. 👊🦋🛋️
Maybe Garrett can Photoshop that in 😉
🤔 Is there really a Chesterfield? Fans need to know.
Congrats on the sponsorship you (guys) earned it.
Nice frame too Chris. 👌
👊🦋
Congrats on the sponsorship. Btw there is a ton of tactics, excitement, and storylines going on at the women’s Vuelta. First mountain stage tomorrow. Would be cool to see some analysis
Congrats on your sponsorship..This is my favorite channel for insight into the tactics of bike races. Keep up the great work! Bring on the Giro!!!❤🤯💯🚲
👊🦋🚲
Awesome that you got a sponsor, Chris! Bout time. ☺️🎉🦋🦋🦋👊👊👊💲🥰
Great news on the sponsorship! Up up up!
👊🦋
Chris, could you give us a better view on what a solid two weeks of training looks like for a pro cyclist going into a stage race?
That’s a good topic. I will save this and try to find a day to cover it. Probably will be the TdF though cause I’m running out of days before the Giro starts but I’m not 100% set on tomorrow’s video yet either. Thanks 👊🦋
Look at Chris getting sponsored…about time bro. One of the few objective voices in the TH-cam sphere as it relates to professional cycling. Putting out a lot of content lately, and I thank you for that. Off topic from your video, I would like to get your take on who was the most talented GC rider you, or your team had to compete against and why. Sometimes the fans don’t know how slim the margins are when it comes to victory or a loss in a 3 week stage race.
Thanks for putting the work in!💪🏼
I'd like to think I helped you getting on the 2012 TDF team. I got on the Radioshack website and saw that no Americans were on the team. So I pointed out that they were promoting the team as being American but the TDF team had no Americans. Suddenly you were on the list. I had to look out for a fellow San Diegan.
Even more if you remember the essential job he did in the Tour de France last year to have Jay Hindley win the stage and grab the yellow jersey. For sure a team player and also high quality rider and climber who puts in the work to get into shape for the big races (just check his training work last weeks in Teide matching the climbing times of Contador, Froome etc)
Buchmann's contract ending this year might have something to do with it as well.... although that would be silly, why not race the rider, you pay him to race
Right. In the past with how the UCI points system worked a few years back that “strategy” was used often. 😬🦋👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling but Buchmann has almost no UCI points on his account. If the Giro decision is right or wrong depends on this ability to be valuable helper on the mountains. I can't argue with this but sure Lipowitz did a fantastic Tour de Romandie - a performance we have never ever seen from Buchmann even it was tactically nonsense.
@@Michael00000001 but he probably would've racked up a few at the Giro, not to mention the rest of the season.
@@MarkM-kv2oq you mean Buchmann? No way! He is pro since 2012 and since then he has had one win at the World Tour (Vuelta stage 2019)
@@Michael00000001 yeah, I guess you're right. Although they always seem to go better when their contract needs renewing. Hahaha...
Hey Chris,
Congrats on the sponsorship! :) Well deserved.
I'd like to put out a small mistake regarding Bora: They didn't bring van Poppel instead of Welsford. Van Poppel was on the line up anyway as lead out for Welsford.
They brought in Gamper! :-D Which makes it even more obsucre as they are having Mullen and Koch already. A full grown sprint train without a sprinter.
Nothing against Gamper. He's a really good rouleur.
But I do wonder: Kämna out, Welsford dropped, Martinez left. So all in for Martinez now. Why not bring Buchmann as a solid climber to support Martinez? After all he was strong in Basque Country as you said. More over he was a strong domestique in recent years anyway: Tour and Vuelta 23, Giro 22 (when he was 7th, he was supporting Hindley too!).
Bit of background on the Bora situation:
At the beginning of this season Ralph Denk said in an interview that it's a contract year for Buchmann. He earns the salary of a leader because of his results years ago and hasn't shown it in recent years.
So there was some pressure to deliver results and maybe he grew into that thought of aiming high at the Giro because of that.
Still ..despite being a strong support in Basque Country, he had no results in a long time. Since his covid (caught at the olympics) he was never the same rider again. He also dwelled upon that supporting is it for him nowadays and that he hasn't the same legs anymore and that his leader days are over. That makes his recent remarks regarding a co leadership quite astonishing and surprising.
Still it's even more surprising to not take him as a support rider which he could have been easily and pick another rouleur instead ...while they actually abandoned their sprinting ambitions there for the most part.
Best regards.
Interesting Commentary on the sport ..... the inside information of Pro-Cycling....Thanks Again !
sponsored by Buycycle and Emanuel Buchmann:)
Great story Chris! Appreciate it!

📖👊🦋👊
Always respect your analysis and career. You've always been in my mind one of those men of iron like a Jens Voight or a Thomas Voekler who showed up in all conditions and was ready to put on a show. Kudos.
Jen’s was a fighter. One of the best 👊🦋💪
Always look forward to your videos. Hope you reach the 100,000 subscriber number this year (you deserve that and so many more). Also, congrats on the Buycycle sponsorship. I went to their website and really liked what I saw. Unfortunately, I just purchased a bike and don't have a current need. However, something to keep in mind for the future.
Thanks 👊🦋
Bought my bike from buycycle and the customer service was unreal!
congratulations Chris
Bought two bikes on Buycycle so far. Went very well.
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Looking forward to the giro
I’ve seen Buchmann yesterday in Eschborn - Frankfurt and he was riding in the front most of the time.
And this german race has (again) some serious climbing in it.
Manni is an experienced rider and he knows how to prepare for grand tours.
His contract is on it’s last year I guess that might be a reason
Now that’s big time production…handing off the frame to the crew. 👊🏻 👍🏻 🦋
You make a great point about putting together a team, and how there may be things going on that the DS knows that the riders may not know.
Boom!!! Well done guys
👊🦋
Cool explanation today Chris. Thanks mate.
Glad you enjoyed the video. 👊🦋
I think this show is therapeutic for Chris. Talking through those old tdf. 😅
Great insight as always. My question is... when talking about sprinters vs GC... how do teams select the 'supporting' riders i.e. lead-out guys vs. guys that can chase breakouts vs. supporting riders on mountain stages... so much strategies in play. Only so many spots on a roster. Do the directors get credit or am I overthinking this??
Congratulations on the sponsorship, thanks for sharing the insights.
👊🦋
The trophy would make a great monocle
👊🦋
Lance has always good things to say about Pisterolo :D No Beef there :D
congrats on the sponsor!
Congratulations! Nice Sponsorship partner. I will be checking them out, only because of hearing about them here ...
Thanks for another insight. Teams have to think about all three tours so it’s surely the best for TdF as that’s no1. Sounds like Bora are just filling spots for the Giro does it not?
A well earned sponsorship until the Giro d’Italia, it’s starting to get the excitement going👍
Hell yeah, Chris. Congrats on the channel sponsor!
👊🦋
Thank you Chris always love your thoughts, maybe Roglic will want Buchmann in his TdF team …..
If I were Buchmann, I’d ask Chris to make those calls on my behalf. Irresistible!😅
Was there anything happier as a boy than a summer day and a banana seat bike? Living in the Seattle area at the time, we often towed wooden "hydroplanes" behind us because of SeaFair and their hyrdo races. Such great memories.
👊🦋🚲
Oh yeah... I had a Raleigh banana bike in NJ, which came with narrow rims & tires, unlike the Schwinns and Huffys; I was about 5% faster on roads, and more cautious off-road.
We once did an after-school "Le Mans" race start: lined up our rides on one curb of the school driveway, stood opposite our bikes on the other curb, and "GO" sent us running 😂😂😂
We made it to the road and turned left (1967?); then about six kids lost it (hooked handlebars?) and went down: I ended up "ski jumping" off someone's front wheel and someone else's head(!!!). Fun times.
Green Schwinn banana seat. Crashed on it too many times. 🫣🤣. No “sissy” bar as it was called back in the day.
Chris I am so happy and thrilled for you that you got a sponsor 🥳😁
Thanks 👊🦋
Congratulations on the sponsorship.
Maybe I should look for my old Cannondale with the black Look pedals. 🤔
If you listen hard, you should be able to hear your Look pedals squeaking from your house.
20,000 bikes available. Maybe one of them is your old one. 😂🦋👊🚲
Was that a Schiwinn banana seat cruiser? That brings me to my first competitive rides in the neighborhood. It's a very classic bike. I raced the whole neighborhood on that bike, at the ripe old age of seven or so. Thanks for the memories Chris.
Right. The memories are deep with that model of bikes. As soon as I saw it I went and looked for my schwinn frame that has been in the box for 25 years. 😂👊🦋
Buchmann likes to ride for his own GC instead of higher placed team mates even when it's just barely a top 10. Then again Bora's Giro team isn't stacked with climbing talent so they should still send him since it's not clear if Lipowitz or Martinez will have good performances over 3 weeks.
Love to hear Good sponsership! Nice❤ and one question i'd like to ask. If my height is 180cm, what size is normally fit for me? When i searched on google it seemed 56 - 58. Is it normally correct?
What would you do If you were DS of some of team INIEOS OR VISMA to beat Pogacar on giro
I hope Bookman is listening!!! Call your DS Bookman! :) Get yourself back on Bora for the Giro!
☎️🦋👊
With a post out in the open like that plus a public reply too from the DS, we all know it's game over. Better hope the pre contract that prolly triggered this, does not get thrown in the bin
Huge congrats on your sponsorship, Chris! And I have a Chicago-made ladies' frame, too, one I rescued from the trash. But the ad for the "Apple Krate" is confusing. Is it an actual frame that was stripped all the way down to a basic Sting-Ray? What happened to the springer forks and the suspended sissy bar and the shifter and the five-speed freewheel and rear derailleur and the hand brakes? Sorry, just curious.
I was always waiting to find the spring fork for my frame and then build it up for one of my kids. But then it just sat in the box for 25 years until I pulled it out today. 🥲🦋👍
Looking at the start list for the giro pogacar is a 30min favourite. The only way he loses is he goes down. There's just no one that can compete and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a massive lead and conserves energy for the tdf. No team has anyone who can compete with him and he has r majkais best domestique over the past few years to set pace.
I’d say your theory on Contador’s chemistry is a fair take on human nature. Seems possible Contador would worry that way. Many people would.
Thanks, Chris! As you said in a previous vid, Tadej could be in pink for 3 weeks. Barring bad luck for him, everyone else will be riding for stage wins and top 10. Still, the Giro is my favorite grand tour.
The Giro always gets exciting. 🦋🔥👊
There's a Tour of Swiss why isn't there a Tour of Cheddar?
Budump bump! 😂
Exactly. Everyone loves cheese 🧀 😋👊🦋

Rough crowd!
Lets hope EB sees this, expressing oneself first (I assume) via social media may not have been the best idea! A shame you missed the 2009 TDF, it would make a great edition of Beyond the Coverage or Story time (i.e. the story of the TT and Contador not having a bike or nowhere to prepare if I remember correct?). My sense is If I were Contador, I would've done the same...
Another enjoyable upload.
What was your relationship with Alberto? I know Lance dont like him but never heard you give an opinion of him, except to say he was a great rider. As for not wanting you on the team for the tour, he was judging you by his own standards.
In saying that, Contador was a pleasure to watch on the bike
I never had an issue with Contador and you always knew he was going to the race to win it, which made for some great experiences when I was there. 👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling thanks, Chris
I'm getting an 86 GIOS brand new, actually. It looks exactly like the one I had the only thing deffrent is it doesn't have Super Record on it.

Buggedman versus Rawnail
Chriss, is there a deadline for a rider to be added/swab on a grand-tour?
I was with Saunier Duval 2005 and we switched on the before the TdF started if I remember correctly. But I don’t if the rules have changed. 🤔🦋👍
Looks like you were 13th in the 2012 TDF, not 15th, helping Radio Shack win the team competition. Talking with Johan Bruyneel obviously was a good idea. Unlike riders today who openly complain about their team directors on social media. SMH. Buchmann isn't the first. But isn't the main fault here with the Bora director? Bruyneel fully explained his rationale for leaving you off the TDF team in 2012 weeks before, so you ultimately were able to convince him to change his mind after multiple private conversations. Nobody had to make anybody look bad in public.
Yeah, imagine…

Most invisible trophy award
Yep. I don’t think Buchmann is going to be at Giro now. 😬🦋
Congrats, new sponsorship. Makes me think Im not the only one watching!
What if they would put him to TdF?
I reckon Buchman can go top 20 🤣 He's one of these riders that flatter, he's not consistently good and that's what you need at the Grande tours. With the Lance v Contador thing, from an outsider perspective, Lance was a control freak, with a powerful personality. Contador was leagues above him in talent, but you can't have two leaders in that scenario and work, without someone getting trod on.
They should save Mullen for TDF to look out for Roglic IMO
Roglic could use some flat power to keep him safe between the mountains. 👊🦋
Basque is training.
How about "When Riders don't TRUST their Teams"?
Ha ha, Kuss
It happens. I probably should have not trusted a few my team that I raced for along the way. 😬🦋👍
😊.
👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋👊👊👊👊👊🦋🦋🦋🦋
when Pogacar has a accident in the giro....tour de france will be very open !! And many riders can win ...Buchmann !
Public spats rarely go well for the person whining!!😣
Contador was scared of you. Chris Horner, a future Vuelta WInner who could be considered a Pure Climber and who could match Alberto and could also pull Armstrong up the longest climbs if needed. Chris, may I ask, do you think if Armstrong would have had the Yellow Jersey first, instead of Cancellara, do you think that would have made Alberto unable to attack the climbs because he would have been attacking his teammate who was in Yellow? Could Johan B. have told Alberto to not attack and to help Armstrong, because he was already in Yellow?
🦋🦋🦋🦋
👊👊👊🦋
I wouldn't put calleb ewan in that level. Guys over the hill. He's no match for this next generation of sprinters
Yeah, he's going because he is the number two sprinter on his team. Groenevegen will go to the TdF.
the Bukman post sounds like something you do when you know youre leaving soon
Exactly 😬🦋👍
4:40 90, 95, and 105 degrees in San Diego? Surely you speak in hyperbole.
I like your channel, but you really have to do something about your set. Standing against the wall is never good, use a boom mic instead of a Lavier. Frame those jerseys so they look better not like somebody’s wash. A little bit better lighting would help too. Otherwise you’re doing good.
Hi Chris,
th-cam.com/video/kMGHcQQxH18/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Pnt8Sul42JBwPcLA
Since you mentioned TdF 2009, here's a goofy little video your subscribers might like, that I shot & edited, from the ascent of the Col de Romme, showing a lot of "Publicité" caravan footage.
It emphasizes the "anticipation" we excitedly built, as the 17km-long parade of vehicles winds down, and the helicopters' approaching buzz indicates the leaders are arriving.
TdF roadside fans mirror solar eclipse fanatics: we drive/ride 🚴♂️🚴♀️ a LONG way for something that's "over" in 2 to 5 minutes.
[Garrett: you're better than I was... this was done with Sony Vegas 15y ago]

I don't know, but some of this has to be kids these days and social media. Just think if Chris had social back in RadioShack days and had really put all of his feelings out there. He would have never had the chance to be a late call-up for the race. Way too easy for these young athletes to burn their bridges
Social media would have had me fired so quickly. 😂🦋👊
Sorry LA tdf results were mentioned . Trying to forget that era
Imagine living in Switzerland for 12 years, enjoying the whole "experience" of cycling from home to a TdF from 1997 to 2009, and Lance is the focus nearly every year... 😮😢
Festina 1998 was the first Tour of my long decade abroad... sigh.
Is it possible he may be targeted for the TOUR?
I'm wondering that too.
If he is. Someone forgot to tell him. 😂🦋👊.

2:09 "TOURS de France". Not "Tour de Frances". There is only ONE France!
Tour de France's....is the name of the race he made the name of the race plural not name of the country.
I don't think apostrophes are ever the correct way of constructing the plural of a noun, even in the case of an open compound word like "Tour de France". I agree that "Tours de France" is the most logical choice. In Spanish you would also also say "Vueltas a España".
Thanks professor 🤣
@@goldenretriever6261 “Tour de France's” is the possessive case of Tour de France. It implies something pertaining to the Tour. This has nothing to do with plurality.

except contador, everybody from tdf lineup went to radioshack in 2010 + other riders like you,brajkovic...who was on armstrong side went at radioshack
if contador knew in advance about this,he would fought to bring navaro, blasquez, noval in tdf 2009,these 3 guys went to saxobank with contador in 2011
procyclinstats telling us who had loyality to who

It's a bit amusing how you have "BUYCYCLE" just constantly overlaid over the screen :D
Would be even better if you got them to send you a sponsor jersey!
So the sponsorship is that you can now buy some video rights to make the production value much better? Because Lanterne Rouge is unwatchable and Lance is a fantastic piece of shit. You're the only race recap guy worth watching.
It’s 120,000 euros for the ASO rights and a ton of more rules to follow with that price tag. The biggest being they only give everyone the same 8-10 mins worth of video and the video had to up something around 2hours after the race finished. My videos take a lot of time before they post because I’m always looking to find the details that explain the race so precisely, those details explain to you why I see the race the way I do. I could never have our videos up so quickly. 🥲🦋👊
