It was very cool to see all the fleets of the galaxy coming together to fight the Scourge. I've never seen that before in Stellaris, and it's really great.
For the Declaring war on yourself bug, check your vassals defensive pacts. There may be a conflict with the "join vassals wars" because they may be getting pulled into the war against you which is pulling you in on the wrong side of the war.
Was looking for this comment. One of your vassals was probably allowed independent diplomacy and had a defensive pact with the empire you wanted to go to war with. This kind of entanglement has actually occurred in our history.

When I last played, my allies genuinely helped me multiple times; in one scenario they intercepted a marauder fleet in my territory, in other situations they actually joined my fleets AND attacked from various flanks on empires I was at war with.
For some of the very first times in Stellaris, I honestly looked at some of my allies and wanted to defend and keep them as allies PURELY because I actually liked them
That always happens for me. The only time it doesn't happens when I play Mega Corp, Exterminatus, or Gestalt Mind. Normally, MC and GM I try to keep everyone near me neutral until I get choke points setup because if not I immediately get invaded. That's with Passive Ai setting as well. I like playing those three though so . . .

@@Dramn_ Bad luck I guess. I am far more of a expanding Turtle than offensive player because of that. It's literally the first thing I set out to do before anything else once all other priorities are set at the beginning.
@@xermasboo5401 Yowsi, I always push as fast as possible and focus purely on territory and eco for fleet until I reach places that I can't continue rolling through, then I become big defense boi :D

In one of my recent runs with my brother The Great Khan was beating the ever living crap out of everyone. The Khan themselves was about to single handedly annihilate my empire but then… suddenly… I was saved by the fallen machine empire. I had no idea that a fallen empire could send its fleets to fight a crisis without being awakened.
you know, that "A Broken Empire" event, I'm starting to think it's pre-determined by the game so that you always have a form to escape free from the overlord in the imperial fiefdom start
Most likely. But it would be more fun if you could play a part in it rather than passively wait. Or keep them intact, if that's how you want to play it.

@@itsuwu6435 Not possible unless you mod the game. The overlord is a special AI empire like a fallen empire. The Hegemon origin is probably the closest thing, but you won't be super overpowered.
If you did mod it to play the overlord, it would probably get janky really quickly.
@@natural20_85 idk about pc but on xbox you can start a multiplayer save from a loaded save and choose any empire in the galaxy

Scholariums are kinda op D: who knew in a game about technological superiority that allowing people to supercharge their technology while being safely protected by a number of empires would be so good!

Even with having to give up 30% of your science it is still very strong.
Also your Overlord starts with quite lot of techs (maybe all T1 and T2s?),
so if you get yourself a research agreement, you'll have almost the same progress as if you didn't have to pay that.

I adore that they've added and expanded vassal mechanics, it was such a fun part of EU4 that you could start as an OPM amidst larger empires, or as a vassal of one to be safe but controlled, trying to break free and figure out how to overcome the Very Hard AI's inherent numerical advantages through good old human inventiveness.
Also gives some nice CK vibes. It's almost against the spirit of that game to play as an independent Duke or whatever

I love how Hyper Relays allow the road-building itch to be well-scratched. Getting them much earlier than Gates means they will get deployed abundantly. You can even lay out speedways to Gate sites so you'll have a proper hub-and-spokes layout, should you desire. Thank you for the playthrough, Lathrix!
I know your theme is being the 'good' guy Lathrix, but I've gotta say I was not prepared for "I love this portrait cuz it looks like they are in pain- and at the same time they're adorable :D!" and that really just fuckin sent me for a good minute
With all of the mercenaries and vassal types, I’m exited as to the possibilities of a very feudal galaxy.

This might not be the place to make an Overlord reference, but the backstory of this empire reminds me of the relation between Fluder Paradyne and Ainz Ooal Gown.
Stellaris is *still* a series I wish to see continued in the future.
And Hyper relays really are a great inbetween of hyperlanes and gates
I've also had a bug involving the relay's where if a fleet jumps in during a war, they strangely don't attack and act as though they were a starbase and had shoddy accuracy when engaging in the fight.
Weirder part? 3 nearly destroyed ships did all that damage at 14% remaining hull points and shields

By the time it got to those battles near 1:48:00 in the video, it was getting impossible to tell which side was truly the Scourge, that flood of ships from the allies was crazy!
Comment for the algorithm and to just say I love the full playthrough videos and appreciate the time and effort you put in to them.
They added some Mercenary Enclaves capacity to some underpowered civics ( Barbaric Despoilers and Warrior Culture both give 1 for example ), so you can really push them as a way to powerup your empire somewhat early depending on your style.
Although, Paradox capped the research dividends they give to 5k, because that part was a bit silly.

Also I can imagine another Lath super defensive run using a bulwark 😁😆. Something in the spirit of the massive defence starbases which kept the crisis out.
Loving the new hyper relays and quantum catapults, makes travel that much more interesting and attainable

In order for you to get the end of the scourge event you have to do the galactic vote for focus the scourge. Its the same for all the other end game crisis as well

My first playthrough was Imperial Feifdom. Aquatic authoritarian slavers. I took over a machine empire to turn them into my own vassal scholarium.

Is it just me or is the view/like- ratio of about ~20% for the full playthroughs pretty high?
Most channels are lucky to achieve 5-10% but I guess due to these full play through being so much more work which the viewership understands they are more likely to be generous with likes

Something funny about Bulwark subjects, if you build the Overlord building that syhpons basic resoucers, the subiside you need to pay them reduces significantly. Its very usefull

Well hopefully the vassal system improvement will remain fun and interesting, seems like a good attempt at least to make them a bit more dynamic and variable.
For the record, meritocracy fully works here. You show your scientific ability and merit, you get promoted.
Have to say, once the bugs were ironed out, this patch was astoundingly good. AI empires feel like actual contenders instead of just eye candy, and you feel like it's worthwhile to interact with them rather than just conquering everything.

Another great playthrough. I really enjoy all of them, and enjoying your continued commitment to create content - especially in the Stellaris universe. And another note - some of the most amazing playthrough for me have been the ones with the Mega Engineering Mod, which I also enjoy myself a lot. Have you considered after you completed a playthrough, to do another followup episode loading up either the final save, or multiple saves during your playthrough and explain a bit deeper or reflect on your empire build etc.? I think that could be interesting to see how you build the planets, which mega structures you have, the crazy output etc. Plus you will have an "easy" way of adding additional content on your channel of an already existing playthrough. You might also learn something from reflecting on your own playthrough 😊

When you landed ads backwards onto your Allies catapult, I was so effin confused, and then when you explained it I just about died laughing my ass off at the absurdity if it. Bravo, you managed ti make that dumb thing useful for awhile

An interesting thing you can do is put your vassals on restricted voting and them joining none of your wars, but then have them in a federation. They need to vote with you so you can always pass a war, but they don't get the big loyalty malus for joining all wars.
I hope Lathrix plays around with the Mercenary Enclaves feature. They have some pretty fun interactions. Also megacorps seem to REALLY like the imperial fief start; having homeworlds to slap down branch offices right out the gate is v nice. Might be funny being a criminal heritage megacorp and infect and destabilize the overlords empire from within!
Gaslighting a galactic empire into thinking they own you whilst simultaneously using them as your contractually obligated slave army.

There'll probably be a free weekend soon. Keep an eye out for Stellaris deals, sometimes the core game and perhaps older DLC is available inexpensively.

@@RobBCactive it's actually available for free right now I realize ! Though I will rather save up so I can enjoy the game without a time cap that's closing in, I know it sounds weird but it just feels uncomfortable to enjoy a game and suddenly not being able to anymore. But thanks for the pointer!

As you always seem to get waaay into the repeatables every game, have you considered playing around with the tech/tradition cost modifiers in the starting settings? That would probably severely hamper you and make the crisis an actual crisis instead of "lath comes in and slaps".
The bugs led to my shortest game yet - as a vassal I went to war, claimed the homeworld of my weak neighbour. Won the war handily, but then a revolt broke out. Spawned a new empire that I immediately was at war with, but not before my overlord signed a defensive pact with them. Got obliterated by my own overlord before 2230.

That bag of skittles spilled fleet at the end, ha! A lot of people are discovering they like trains/railroads with the hyper relay, apparently, fun to see. Curious how you're gonna tackle the subterranian origin. I actually like it for hive minds still, but I can very much get the diggy hole squats mentality that it tempts out of folks. Offspring are still...kinda weird, and just don't smack as thematically neat for me still. Almost feels like a leader focused clone armies without the strong lore vibes.
