The dance piece presented for the kathak segment is not classical kathak. 3. The noteable dancers that you have listed for kuchipudi is pretty much just the raja/radha reddy family. There are other dancers as well. Vempati Chinna Satyam is a prominent figure in the kuchipudi dance field and I feel he should have been included. Hope you will consider the feedback.

Bharatnatyam, Odissi, and Kuchipudi are more similar (in the same family). But Kathak is very different and instantly recognizable -- no bent knees, more vertical dancing, straight hands/no lotus flower mudras, chakkars, etc.

In Bharatanatyam there are a number schools which have modified the form conveniently. Similarly in Kathak there are several gharanas. Kathak had originated in UP, and Bharatanatyam (originally Sadir atyam) in Tamil Nadu. So it is natural that their techniques will be much much different. Footworks of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam are similar in places, which is consistent with the fact that all of these forms had originated in the South of India. Different kingdoms came and go and had different influences on the art forms of the particular region. As far as I know, Lucknow gharana shows the Islamic influence you are talking about, but there are other gharanas which have not adapted to the Mughal influence. As far as Natya Shastra is concerned, it talks about certain body postures, certain abhinaya techniques which are more or less common in all of the performing arts.

In Melbourne, Australia we had Chandrabhanu a male dancer who had a school in the suburb of Richmond and performed Oddisi & Bharahathatanyam. My mother took me to watch his performances along with his troupe of dancers from the age of 10. I had a little poster of him on my wall. I saw many performances and still love the music, voice percussion and of course the dances. I used to copy the poses in my bedroom. As a very white girl girl of English background all I wanted was dark eyes and a nose piercing like the beautiful female dancers. Thanks for the memories. (ps. Sorry about my poor spelling)

In Odissi there are lot female famous dancers in Odisha like Sanjukta Panigrahi, Sujata Mohapatra and many more... and its very old and beautiful dance form, eligible to be listed in top of the Indian classical dance list not in the end..
That instrument cymbals that are not used in manipuri dance . In this dance kurtal and flute are used and this is also a dance to dedicate shrimati radha and krishna

The present day bharatanatyam was developed by Tanjore quartets and later by rukmini devi arundale before that it was called as Sadir Attam, a mere folk art from from tamilnadu which were practised by devadasis. Natya shastra has nothing to do with any dance forms of india leave alone bharatanatyam.

And one thing initially thus dance was danced by Thevar adiyarkal not a devadasi. Laterly Thevar adiyarkal changed to devadasi and then they are destroyed for change the name the name of sathirattam to barathanatyam. then Brahmins taken this dance in the name of barathanatyam. Nadarajar is a God for dance. The temple is there in Tamilnadu only. This is the proof.

Bharathanatyam originated in Temples of Tanjore, which is tamilnadu. (i dont know how karnataka is given credits). And no one knows except people of tamilnadu that "sadirattam" (A tamil name) otherwise called as "Dasiattam" (means dance of devadasi) which is banned by british and later revived by tanjore quartets ( again by tamil people) -chinnaya, ponnaya, sivanandam and vadivelu pillai in tanjore during the rule of king sherfoji II. And named it as "Bharathanatyam" (after eliminating all the erotic movements and songs) to mislead british that it is a different dance and not sadirattam. Among the brothers, Ponniah composed several tanavarams, kirtanams, melaprapti, alarippu, jatiswaram, sabdam, swarajati, chauka varnam, ragamalika, padams, javali, tillana, daru, swarapadam, etc., before this sadirattam was just a dance of pleasure. Bharatha muni has no way connected to this and making it mythological with lord brahma is unnecessary. when you are presenting any cultural related things kindly get your facts right!!!

We have specific music for particular type of landscapes or lifestyle. And music instruments which you cant even imagine, good that we are using it now and have written records of how toake those instruments and how to play them, otherwise people like you will copy it and name it as vedic instruments. Just show me one concrete record of name bharathanatyam or carnatic music before 18th century... I am not asking you more just one record...

I can't help with the entire piece but I can confirm that Manipuri as an art is fully and completely absolutely focused on stories for Lord Krishna and Radha. The costumes that you saw are Radha Krishna impersonations. That is the standard costume of Manipuri unless the female impersonator wears a plom. The art flourished under the Vaishnavs of Manipur.
There are some serious mistakes. The instruments used in mohiniyattam are not as shown in video. The instruments used in mohiniyattam are totally similar to bharatanatyam. Even idakkya is used in mohiniyattam. Bharatanatyam is not at all similar to kathak in anyway. And one of the instruments as u mentioned was thalam, but actually nattuvangam is commonly used in bharatanatyam, kuchipudi and mohiniyattam. thalam is basically used in koodiyattam, a dance form from kerala. please do consider this info

Even for the competitive examination you have to go for deep search if you are providing details of something which is ancient and classical. The most notable persons are Vempati Chinna Satyam Garu, Yamini Krishnamurthy, Shoba Naidu, Sunil Kothari, and Balasaraswati Garu etc are the most prominent personalities and after these people the people whoever you mentioned in the video will come. I'm not saying that they r not, but these people are prominent personalities 😊 Do a thorough research 😃 thank you 😊

i"ve went through all the comments and literally nobody said a word about mohiniyattam(it really aches). the performer should have immense flexibility and most of all their expressions really matter, its the energy of shiva and the grace of parvati being shown entirely. each movement is so flexible and thereby immense grace. the viewer will be fascinated by their beautiful dress styles and ornaments

This video was v informative, but I'd like you to check again regarding the details of odissi. Odissi doesn't use tabla as the instruments, and rarely use harmonium. You could have mentioned Veena cause it is a mandatory instrument in odissi, and violin too could be mentioned. Hope you find this informative. Also thankyou for this amazing video 👍🏻
Bharathanatiyam is a name coined recently when the art form was taken over from the Tamil communities dedicated to the temples art activities from ancient times. It was called as Sathirattam and after all the Tamil kingdoms had their downfalls to Telugu and other North Indian powers. The music especially language used in the art form were taken to other languages that were promoted by the rulers. At the same time the art form was pushed into a situation that misconstrued the communities involved in the art form to a caste system used in North Indian kingdoms as “Devadashi”. When all the Tamil language and art forms were demonized by the Sanskritization both lingually and socially - the British period helped the revival of the art form - when Telugu and other Brahminical North Indian powers were brought under the British. Rukmini Devi Arundale is the pioneer in reversing that social discrimination and help raising the current versions of Bharathanatiyam art form.
@@Aman-qr6wi This is because of the ascendancy of Sanskrit and the down-fall of Tamil in Tamil Nadu when the latter came under the indirect rule of non-Tamils after the fall of the Tamil empires in the 14th century CE and the direct rule of it by non-Tamils from the 16th century CE onwards. Many true Tamil arts and crafts went into oblivion because of lack of royal patronage and the influence of Sanskrit on the royals.

I don't know about nowadays, but violin seriously!? When our dance forms are 2000 years old at that time violin didn't even exist so I don't think so violin was used to as a instrument in india for classical dances
Thanks for mentioning "Shastriya Nrityam", which was the actual name in contrast with most widely used term Classic/Classical Dance. The word classical resonates something which is 'DEAD', either language, culture, art or Nrityam. As Bharatiya Samskruti is living & continuous and not dead, Shastriya Nrityam/Natya cannot be Classical Dance. Therefore is non-translatable word.
Manipuri dance probably gave influence to many southeast asian classical dance ive seen the moves in thai, indonesian and southern Philippine folk dance

Kalbeliya is a folk dance of India,they were performed by only one tribe,known as kalbeliya.
It's not a classical bcz ,it is only limited only to kalbeliya tribe people and not spread out.

Chenda, maddalam and ilathalam are not the instruments used for Mohiniyattam. Idakka, mridangam, violin and flute are used for that.

In Odissi there are lot female famous dancers in Odisha like Sanjukta Panigrahi, Sujata Mohapatra and many more... and its very old and beautiful dance form, eligible to be listed in top of the Indian classical dance list not in the end..

The present day bharatanatyam was developed by Tanjore quartets and later by rukmini devi arundale before that it was called as Sadir Attam, a mere folk art from from tamilnadu which were practised by devadasis. Natya shastra has nothing to do with any dance forms of india leave alone bharatanatyam.

@@SucilanSundar yes, the name sathirattam was charged to barathanatyam. In Tamil literature so many proves are there for this dance. Especially in silapathikaram, Madhavi dance . And one thing initially thus dance was danced by Thevar adiyarkal not a devadasi. Laterly Thevar adiyarkal changed to devadasi and then they are destroyed for change the name the name of sathirattam to barathanatyam. then Brahmins taken this dance in the name of barathanatyam. Nadarajar is a God for dance. The temple is there in Tamilnadu only. This is the proof.

Bharathanatyam originated in Temples of Tanjore, which is tamilnadu. (i dont know how karnataka is given credits). And no one knows except people of tamilnadu that "sadirattam" (A tamil name) otherwise called as "Dasiattam" (means dance of devadasi) which is banned by british and later revived by tanjore quartets ( again by tamil people) -chinnaya, ponnaya, sivanandam and vadivelu pillai in tanjore during the rule of king sherfoji II. And named it as "Bharathanatyam" (after eliminating all the erotic movements and songs) to mislead british that it is a different dance and not sadirattam. Among the brothers, Ponniah composed several tanavarams, kirtanams, melaprapti, alarippu, jatiswaram, sabdam, swarajati, chauka varnam, ragamalika, padams, javali, tillana, daru, swarapadam, etc., before this sadirattam was just a dance of pleasure. Bharatha muni has no way connected to this and making it mythological with lord brahma is unnecessary. when you are presenting any cultural related things kindly get your facts right!!!

Avinash MN ha...ha... We tamils have records of Pannisai ( so called carnatic music) from sangam literatures like tholkappiyam, Silapathigaram, seevagasinthamani and so on. We have specific music for particular type of landscapes or lifestyle. And music instruments which you cant even imagine, good that we are using it now and have written records of how toake those instruments and how to play them, otherwise people like you will copy it and name it as vedic instruments. Just show me one concrete record of name bharathanatyam or carnatic music before 18th century... I am not asking you more just one record...

I can't help with the entire piece but I can confirm that Manipuri as an art is fully and completely absolutely focused on stories for Lord Krishna and Radha. The costumes that you saw are Radha Krishna impersonations. That is the standard costume of Manipuri unless the female impersonator wears a plom. The art flourished under the Vaishnavs of Manipur.

There are some serious mistakes. The instruments used in mohiniyattam are not as shown in video. The instruments used in mohiniyattam are totally similar to bharatanatyam. Even idakkya is used in mohiniyattam. Bharatanatyam is not at all similar to kathak in anyway. And one of the instruments as u mentioned was thalam, but actually nattuvangam is commonly used in bharatanatyam, kuchipudi and mohiniyattam. thalam is basically used in koodiyattam, a dance form from kerala.

Even for the competitive examination you have to go for deep search if you are providing details of something which is ancient and classical.

Vempati Chinna Satyam Garu, Yamini Krishnamurthy, Shoba Naidu, Sunil Kothari, and Balasaraswati Garu etc are the most prominent personalities and after these people the people whoever you mentioned in the video will come. In sattriya dance, violin is not uesd, but flute is the important instrument which is not mentioned.
i"ve went through all the comments and literally nobody said a word about mohiniyattam(it really aches). the performer should have immense flexibility and most of all their expressions really matter, its the energy of shiva and the grace of parvati being shown entirely. each movement is so flexible and thereby immense grace. the viewer will be fascinated by their beautiful dress styles and ornaments

This video was v informative, but I'd like you to check again regarding the details of odissi. Odissi doesn't use tabla as the instruments, and rarely use harmonium. You could have mentioned Veena cause it is a mandatory instrument in odissi, and violin too could be mentioned. Hope you find this informative. Also thankyou for this amazing video 👍🏻
One the most important dancers of kuchipudi are Dr. Vempati chinnasatyam, vedantam prahalada sarma, pasumarthi venugopala krishna sarma
Bharathanatiyam is a name coined recently when the art form was taken over from the Tamil communities dedicated to the temples art activities from ancient times. It was called as Sathirattam and after all the Tamil kingdoms had their downfalls to Telugu and other North Indian powers. The music especially language used in the art form were taken to other languages that were promoted by the rulers. At the same time the art form was pushed into a situation that misconstrued the communities involved in the art form to a caste system used in North Indian kingdoms as “Devadashi”. When all the Tamil language and art forms were demonized by the Sanskritization both lingually and socially - the British period helped the revival of the art form - when Telugu and other Brahminical North Indian powers were brought under the British. Rukmini Devi Arundale is the pioneer in reversing that social discrimination and help raising the current versions of Bharathanatiyam art form.
Bharatnatyam is itself derived from sanskrit texts. Isn't it?

Many true Tamil arts and crafts went into oblivion because of lack of royal patronage and the influence of Sanskrit on the royals.

Thanks for mentioning "Shastriya Nrityam", which was the actual name in contrast with most widely used term Classic/Classical Dance. The word classical resonates something which is 'DEAD', either language, culture, art or Nrityam. As Bharatiya Samskruti is living & continuous and not dead, Shastriya Nrityam/Natya cannot be Classical Dance. Therefore is non-translatable word.
Manipuri dance probably gave influence to many southeast asian classical dance ive seen the moves in thai, indonesian and southern Philippine folk dance
