GS and RS are cheap and plentiful and I think everyone needs to start swapping those and keeping them alive. It's such a timeless car. Keeping them FWD is doable and shouldn't be much of a hassle. But I do appreciate you proving the dsmers wrong and opening the possibilities with your silver GS.
I found a 4g63 cyclone engine with transfer case and awd manual transmission, Im really thinking about picking it up and building it. I sold me 2g and my 1g plymouth laser, and I really want to get back into a 4g63, by far my favorite engines ever made. Thank you for sharing your build, this is extremely awesome!
I wouldnt say the 420a is more reliable, they just typically live an easier life. But as these cars are over 25 years old, they are only as reliable as the work you put into them.
My first car was a 1g eclipse knockoff (laser). 15 years later I bought a 2g eclipse n/a some dude slapped a turbo on, I fried it more or less not knowing what I was doing. Now, another 10 years later i'm about to go pick up another 2g n/a on Friday that's a clean slate and I cant wait to get started. I'll be studying your evo swap vids like I'm taking tests on the shit lol.
Honestly i used to think it was a huge waste of time, effort and money but IMO the biggest issue with the DSM 4g isnt even the motor. Its the transmissions, simply put there are no more parts for them and theyre weak as shit. On a E3 16G or a 68HTA youll make enough torque to absolutely chew up stock gearboxes all day, i know as ive done it and its one of the biggest reasons i havent bothered to fix my 1g because i know as soon as i put a new headgasket on it its gonna be like 2 months of fun untill third gear decides to go again and im running out of parts. I personally think that one of the biggest advantages to moving to a EVO 4-9 drivetrain is you get to move away from the DSMs manual transmission and move to the much stronger transmissions available to the EVOs.
@@MiguelDsm I hope as manufacturing technologies develope we can one day have some additive manufacturing technology that let's us "easily" create new, stronger, gearsets for our cars, both evo and dsms. My two cents is that transmission parts will be the downfall of these cars over the next 10-20 years
I think personally it was good choice. Being your first car a dream car and restomodding to what people wish they can do to it. I feel like the stuff that came out of it like the features like super street was a bonus. If I have a chance to do something like this I would do it.
I personally feel like this is the eclipse up there with the fast and the furious one. IMO this is better in every way. The FF one was perfect for the era it was in, this one matches today OEM plus

@@MiguelDsm I live in Illinois, I've been asking around, googleling shops around here but I can't find a shop that will do it. Will you mind giving me the shop information so I can contact them?
Hey Miguel, I've been building my gst just from a chassi for the past 3years and I had to put all the oem parts to get it legally approved to put back on the road is it worth it to modify this 4g63 ou do a Evo swap instead like you did but keep it on de fwd (because here in Switzerland I can't change that) either way thank you for the video and love the content keep it up!!
Do you think evo swapping the eclipse increases the reliability compared to a 6 bolt swap in a turbo dsm? Assuming a person does it right and has a stand-alone fuel management, etc. I miss my dsm (talon tsi awd w built 6 bolt swap) but I don't miss fixing it all the time. If someone wanted a more solid reliable high hp dsm, do you think it would be advantageous to do this swap vs by a gsx/tsi and 6 bolt swap it? Basically would you say that this swap has the reliability of an evo 8/9??
No there’s no reliability increase .. building the engine and drive line first is the key to not having something that you need to work on all the time .. a standalone shouldn’t even me used by someone that cannot tune it themselves imo .. dsm’s aren’t for everyone .. I’ve had numerous talons and eclipses over the years that were daily driven and daily beat to hell at over 500whp most issues I had were due to myself lol like launching the car street racing and twisting spines off axles lol, shattered t cases , busted transmissions .. once I built my own trans , made my own tcase brace and got a twin disk clutch I had no issues other than a few blown turbo seals , lifted cylinder heads and pushed coolant on one due to someone not properly torquing the head studs which was a simple fix with a trq wrench and rtv for the vc gasket
Question what you think of people buying other peoples builds do they loose credibility for not building it themselves or is it the same as having a shop build it
@@MiguelDsm Sure as the Gst and Gsx already have the 4g63 it would be much easier to build for power. But the Evo swap into a 420a Eclipse seems more customizable so I am definitely considering it.
Hey Miguel, Love your eclipse. Is this true? i'd prefer to get 4g63 over 420A, because where i live you can't modify cars like you want, only to original specs (like convert a gs into gs-t or gsx) and i want it manual. Mostly how rare the parts are keeping me back from buying one right now, but it is definitely a life long love for me too.
