Our FORGOTTEN 750cc Powered Cross Kart Returns to FULL POWER!

  • Our 750cc cross kart build returns to full power! We bought a 1982 DOHC Honda CB750 motorcycle for $150 with a stuck engine. We found that the half of the valves were rusted solid, so we serviced the head, and reinstalled it with new gaskets. In today's episode, we find our CB750 power plant doesn't have spark, and doesn't idle. We change coils, check timing, and rebuild the carburetors until eventually it runs right! And STRONG!
    Thanks for Watching!

It's the intake setup. Your middle 2 cylinders are cold and killing plugs because the fuel/air mix has a straight shot to those cylinders while it has to make 2 90° turns before it gets to the cylinders.

Second thing I see is you are trying to feed 4 cylinders with half the carburaters the bike came with.now that u have a sonic cleaner surely u can find 2 more decent carbs to put it back to stock configuration. Third(and this is just my personnel opion) put some bigger tires tires on that thing! Get it up outta the weeds and make it roll over obstacles easier! Keep up the good work.i enjoy ur channel.

A set of coils from a CBR600F2/F3 are the same impedance as the originals (therefore won't damage ignitors/spark units) but will give a noticeably hotter spark. Cheap and almost bolt-in ignition upgrade.
Have y'all checked valve clearances? If that engine wasn't well maintained before you bought it, good chance at least a few of the valves are way too tight and you're losing compression (and on the way to burning a valve). Aim for ~.005" clearance... adjust by changing shims. Then do a vacuum sync of the carbs.
Also... agree with everyone else commenting on the intake manifolds... no way those things are providing consistent mixture to each cylinder.

WHAT IS BAD IS, the 2 inside carbs get straight flow from the carbs.
The 2 outside cylinders have the flow forced through 2 90 degree turns.
The fuel mixture is very different between the cylinders.

We always had individual carburetors that we synchronize with a vacuum gauge. The the carburetors were all linked together mechanically with a few rails across them all and had precision adjusting screws. Until you got the balance set at an idol it would not idle smooth. With that outside pipe coming from the center pipe I just can’t see how that would run correctly, is that a stock setup or something you guys invented?

24:15 your left side carburetor is completely missing the brass cable adjuster on the top cap. From the looks of it your right side carburetor slide will move 1/4 of the way before the left side even starts to move. There is also going to be an air leak from those areas since you aren't using the rubber caps that go over the cables.

Spark plugs ground through the threads to the head. If you want to test spark like that consistently you need to make sure the threads are touching a good clean ground.

You guys should look at mini sprint or midget wheels for that. Mini sprints use 10 inch wheels and midgets use 13s. It would give you a ton of choices in tires (and real race tires), they are lighter, and they will give you a little more ground clearance.

  • @garageofscrap
    @garageofscrap 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Could you guys re route those exhausts so they go almost horizontally out of the engine, over the frame support, and go straight out the back. They may need some heat shields, but it’s just a suggestion to get a bit better flow

If the cross cart will be drive a lot, it would be worthy of a CB750 crate engine (if that exists), or one built by an engine builder. Perhaps too expensive, but the CB750 seems to be the format that fits best in the cross cart. Perhaps all this engine needs is a complete rebuild of the ignition components, new or rebuilt carburetors and a custom intake that removes the 90 deg bend to the outside cylinders? This cross cart is worthy of any investment you can muster.

if I was to make a suggestion.... a motor off of a 82 to 87 Honda Sabre or Honda Magna. Shaft drive, 700/750 CC for 80 hp, the 1300 for 140 HP. You can swap the 4 carb set up to a single larger carb for better reliability at a small sacrifice to hp. they rev, have great low end grunt, and are all around a great starting point.
V-4 life. flat fours can pound sand.

Ohm test your coils for proper resistance? I'll say again, get you some Chevy LS coils, make you a platform to bolt them on and have four coil on plugs. It's only three wires, power, ground and trigger wire. You'll have strong spark for each plug and new technology coils that'll last!

I recon it’s the mufflers you know ,either they are clogged with so much crap and restricting the flow or they are too restrictive and causing too much back pressure back to the engine thus making it stall out ,I bet if you take those mufflers off it will run better ,also modify the intake ,great work guys 👍👍

For a multi carb setup get one of those basic handheld digital infra red temp sensor gauge thingys, and tune the carbs so that each exhaust pipe is around the same temp. I know a drag racer who tunes his 8 second ¼ mile Kawasaki race bike that way, with four carbs!
