    Powerful quote: "You're designing a BUSINESS for someone NOT a website".
    I've just came across "UX/UI design" and what all it entails. I've been in retail for over 11 years. Just transitioned out of that industry in Nov 2019. I have a degree in Fashion Design (that was a long time ago, lol) that i haven't used. I originally went to college for graphic design but couldn't continue because i couldn't afford it at the time (AI is so expensive and for what). Working commission in sales and UX has some similarities because its all about being customer centric. I was a brand ambassador and a lot of what im hearing in regards to what UX designers do and why is the exact samething i was doing just on a different scale and platform. I was always telling my team that Im merchandising this product (Jewelry) for a specific reason. Im creating a visual story with the intent of a reaction based on the consumer that is coming to shop. Women 30 to 50 who wanted a luxury item, high quality, didnt come off unaffordable, transitional for everyday, investment pieces. I took a brand that we were about to loose (because it was laterally in a drawer getting no sales) and built that business (in store) to our highest selling brand.
    I would like to dive back into design. Im not sure how. I kind of feel like im to grown to go into a new industry (im almost 34 no design experience). Im still looking for clarity if this would be worth me putting my time into (and work fulltime). Especially during this pandemic.
    Sorry this is a long post🙃😃.
    If you have any words of wisdom for me to reach some clarity @thefutur @josecaballer it would be SUPER helpful.
    Thank you!! Stay safe!

    Power of Now is great, but I feel like for designers who haven’t been through the ringer yet, they probably won’t understand the relevance of the book. One of my favorites is Don’t Make me Think by Steve Krug! Thanks for the awesome content guys!

    Business Model Generation ..wow, that's not a common advice for learning UX. I've read so many articles online in the past and not one of them have recommended it yet, aside from you of course. I have the book beside me right now. It's one of the best books that I've read. The book was part of the must read list during my masters, but I got a personal copy because I've always thought that its useful for exploring different business models, and that had always been one of my main interests. At that time, I thought that this book is useful for pursuing my career as a UX designer. The fact that you mentioned it now reassures me that I made the right choice and I'm on the right path. Thanks for sharing great content online.

      Angelica Dimude I'm thinking of doing a masters in line with creative management but my interests are really varied and I can't choose, may I ask what course you did? You sound very happy with your choice! :)

    • @angelicadimude4378
      @angelicadimude4378 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I took my masters in Information Systems, focusing on Digital Business Systems (took my bachelors in IT). In that course we mainly focused on bridging the gap between Information Technology and Business, that's why we had this book as part of the reading list. It is required in the course to only use information that is backed by scientific researches, so I'm well trained to read scientific papers and analyse scientific findings. This helped me steer my career towards UX. I wouldn't say that I am very very happy with my choice, I think its natural to feel like there is something missing or there is a better course to take. What I can suggest to you is this... don't be scared that you will make the wrong choice because you can always pick a thesis topic, and that topic can be the subject of your interest once you figure out what you want to focus on. It's great if the course that you chose matches what you want to do, but if someday you feel that you might have taken the wrong course just try to do your thesis research in the subject that you really want.

      @paigeh9798 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angelica Dimude Thank you for your super informative reply! It's so hard to know what direction to take, but you're entirely right about thesis topics giving you the ability to steer things in your direction. I sort of forgot about how I might be able to put a creative spin on things and you've definitely given me more confidence. I actually work in a university atm and I'm almost TOO aware of the options available to me! I think your choice will hold you in very good stead, You've hit on something that's in high demand. I'll definitely consider going down this road myself!

      @@thefutur to me it's that I have noticed that in many videos you mention generosity, kindness, staying calm, respectful. I have seen Chris wearing buddhist mala and Jose not trying to fit in what Rastafarians call Babiylon. Now I see this book. I have felt much kindness since I started following this channel and I was suspecting it's going way deeper than just good and nice brand image. I appreciate depth piercing through this channel's leaders :) Thank You! Much respect and good luck on Your journey Christo, Jose and who knows... see you in The Futur :D

      +Hassan Jukhadar Jose worked at Razorfish the digital agency for 6 years. He sat next to a front end developer. He made photoshop files and passed them to the front end developer who sat next to him. She then coded the page and handed it off to a back-end developer. In many instances today that person is one in the same. Jose had a degree in graphic design from the university. The person who was the front end developer did not. She learned to code on her own.

    What does 'Power of Now by Eckhart' got to do with UX? .... That book is about getting focus, concentration to the present situation, for those who gets distracted. :D

    • @sharathkumar83
      @sharathkumar83 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pierce Brantley: As the title says he should may be show more books related to 'UX', and not The Power of Now....present to a situation, how user thinks, if that is what you are saying, yes, but there are lot of others things to be considered....I don't see Eckhart coming to a UX workshop and he talks about The power of now for UX :D

    • @sharathkumar83
      @sharathkumar83 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose: The Eckhart book is 'The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment', so you are saying that those who 'design software', or the CEO's should be spiritually enlightened?

    Hey Skool Guys
    Can you favour me by devoting some tips that how to contact, talk and ask a designer for work. I had lose some money to a fraud designer. Actually he is model maker but I give him job for artisting my graphic
    content. Now I want to reach a big graphic company and ask for my work done.
    Tell me how to set a limit for work for them and how can I know them what I want.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Himanshu Pal Working with designer creatives types can be difficult if you don't have experience managing. First, select someone who already demonstrates work that is very close to what you are hoping to do. After reaching out to them, ask them about how they typically work, rounds of revisions, cost, etc...
      Schedule payments to coincide with milestones. Don't pay everything up front to protect yourself.
      Also, check in to see what others have said about them. If you can't find any, ask for referrals of previous clients that you can contact.
      Good luck.

    • @Pal97
      @Pal97 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Skool Network The company I approached is asking for advance money that to be 50%. Should I give it to them

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Himanshu Pal That's fairly typical. 1) Do you trust them? Do they have a good reputation? 2) If you're uncomfortable with this tell them why and tell them what you're willing to do.
      25% might be acceptable with a progress payment at the half way point.

    If you think that book "power of Now" is fluffy... you are far away from the point of that book. Sadly. You recommend it and you don't understand it. That book is CORE knowledge.

    • @hannagadomska365
      @hannagadomska365 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jose Caballer This is how I got your point, Jose :) Sometimes e.g. if talking about philosophy with physicists, you need to speak 'their language' in order to not sound 'fluffy'. In this case, when one recommends a book like this; one most know that many people would now call it a profound knowledge as in The Futur they might seek more of strictly business knowledge. Even though it's all connected. Thanks for sharing this video! Have a great journey :)

    The title of the video says books to learn ux ui but you don't start talking about the books until 3minutes in the video. Talk about bad UX. Maybe focus on the title and stick on the subject of the video. Or break this into 2 or 3 videos. One as an Intro to UX and the other for books. Disappointing video.

      Not at all, some of the best UX professionals I know don't come from formal backgrounds. Jose obviously has knowledge and passion for human centered design methodologies. I'm just seeing an unfortunate trend of folks coming from GD/Visual Design background claiming "UX" without actually having a grasp on HCD. I think a video on UX education or maybe a video on the state of the industry could be interesting. Keep up the great work.
