Okay. Wow. I’ve got like 30 mins left but I have to pause to say the two of you together works really well because you’re both sure and quick, so neither of you let the other get away with anything, but you still support each other too and it’s so so enjoyably interesting, informing, and fun to listen.
Incredible how refreshing it is to hear a guest that Pete doesn't constantly interrupt and who actually pushes back on the theories and rants most guests just politely nod along to. The best episode in ages.
This episode takes me back to the earlier ones with Duncan Trussel. Those conversations were so authentic and inspirational and I haven't felt a vibe like that again until this episode. Not that the other episodes were lacking in authenticity and inspiration, but there was just an extra layer of *something* that made those episodes stand out. Great chemistry, great conversation, and thanks for all of the years of content. I look forward to this every week.
Thanks for the comment, some ass hole on TikTok posted half that part of the conversation and stopped posting about it at the part after rubbing it in to the joke plate.
Jake totally gets IT! THIS is IT! All the shit and the shine is IT! I loved Pete’s stand up because I felt he was woke like me! Then I read Robert Saltzman’s book “The Ten Thousand Things”! My 50 yr spiritual journey ended! I threw out ALL the books. I realized there is NO pot of gold at the end! No prize! THIS is IT! At 1:36 mark Pete says you have to go through it not around it, but you don’t even have your go through it! THIS is it! Just BE. I had been attending talks on Sundays by John Astin for like a year and never got what he meant by ‘This is it!’ Until I read Saltzman’s book! All that Non-duality stuff is just another belief! I was believing what some Indian sage said eons ago! I NOW know it’s OK to NOT know what THIS is! I stepped out of the questions and into freedom! I absolutely LOVEd Jake’s movie!
I could not love two people more. Honestly. So excited to see Jake Johnson in general but especially here! Also…. Does this mean we get a Pete Holmes WHTH? 👀
The only thing I personally know Jake from is the Spider-Verse movies, but I adore him regardless. His various public appearances are always a treat, but a 2+ hour chat with Pete was more than I could have ever hoped for. Thank you for making this happen, Pete! And thank you to Jake for taking the time!
I had this very though this morning,,"I have to at least pull myself up to the discipline to meet the promises I have made to my own ambitions. I should raise and sometimes lower the bar so I can feel successful with launch to a new perspective. Just an aspirational idea.
Dude… the “Whom I doing?” “Al Pacino?” “Maybe” part is the most funny thing I’ve ever seen on any show. When I binge that show constantly, I have to stop and watch that part every time 😂
❤ this was inspiring in just the right way. I really appreciate the conversation and honesty about motivations, fears, and goals. Well, everything really.
Do Pete and Jake like Modest Mouse? The way they explain their thoughts sounds like the way the guy from Modest Mouse writes lyrics. And I absolutely love it. This is an amazing pod.
Idea, maybe it would help grow the podcast: similar to Sam Harris, and his Best of Making Sense podcasts, other than your new episode every week you could drop a Best of YMIW with selections of episodes from years ago, like the original Kumail episodes, Moshe, etc. I’m sure it’s possible with some thing like Midjourney to generate some animation to lay down on the TH-cam with the original audio. Some of the big names you had before they were so big many years ago would possibly attract new eyeballs. Just a thought, if it sucks at least it was free!
The NETFLIX sound is enticing and invokes sentiment. The Hulu one isn't bad. BUT, can you guess which I love, beats them both by a small margin, the original Playstation sound; just after you put in a disc and hit the power button! 🥳👍✨
SHOES OFF HOUSES want you to sweep their floors with your socks lol cept mine when i lived in wisconsin it was cause the snow tracks in a lot of dirt and obviously wetness
The saxophone was his dad, because his dad is gone from this world and so now the only thing left of him is his memory. He is reflected in Jake's thoughts of him.
I like your content! Super interesting conversation. I wanted to give feedback if you’re interested that I almost didn’t click because I thought the thumbnail of Jake was click bait (just someone voicing over talking or something). I think if Pete’s face was also on the thumbnail I would’ve clicked without hesitating.
Okay.... Tbh I honestly strongly disliked his show "new girl" and was completely ready to not like this interview, but that couldn't be further from truth 😔 im a fan of him now can't wait to see his movie😮
50:27 I don’t believe it was fish eye lens i think it was an anamorphic lens. I noticed the same thing in the opening scene with the distortion of the door frame. These lenses allow for a wider frame but one of the drawbacks is some distortion of otherwise straight lines at the edges of the frame.
Pete, you know that a vast, vast, vast majority of people expect you to take your shoes off when you enter their house, right? I think it's an American thing -- more than once I've seen a TV show portray a person as weird or controlling because they asked someone to take off their shoes, but everyone else is like "Yeah, take your fucking shoes off!" You lived in the northeast, did you really just keep your shoes on after walking through the snow? How is it considered standard that you just keep your shoes one wherever you go?
Welp. That story about his dad and the ashes at home plate have ruined me. Thanks Jack or whatever. The one thing I had to hold on to is gone. All for a sub par 6 minute story. The faux-depth you carry yourself with on podcasts is tiresome.
Jake, I could listen to you until the cows come home. But unfortunately I was unable to because the Pete Holmes side of the conversation was so incredibly tedious.
1:43:50 for anyone looking for the dad story this is the time stamp
you’re such a goat i came to the comments to see if anyone had done this i had 0 hopes
life saver fr 😂
❤
What a great person
Thank u

Agreed! This was a really really really great episode
No notes

SpiderMan vs Batman
😲@@Davidweedlovegreat analogy AND reference. It's not lost on me, sir! 🫡💯

There is no organic conversation more heartwarming and enjoyable to just listen to than the one Pete has with most anybody. Another great episode!
People like Pete Holmes and Jake Johnson make the world/life a little more tolerable. Great pod.
Love listening to Jake, he's such a likeable and funny guy!! Happy he has a pod now!! 🤗♥️💯🔥
He does! It's called "We're here to help"
“The awareness that your dad was, is looking out your eyes right now”
Wow I love that so much, Pete! 1:47:47
Thanks for the comment, some ass hole on TikTok posted half that part of the conversation and stopped posting about it at the part after rubbing it in to the joke plate.
No wonder i am a fan Jake Johnson, he is me in celebrity form. What a cool conversation, well done.

Man, this episode hit the spot! Jake is the best. Just lost my Dad in Sept. and that absence is brutal, but the memories keep me smilin'.
I could not love two people more. Honestly. So excited to see Jake Johnson in general but especially here!
Also…. Does this mean we get a Pete Holmes WHTH? 👀
two of my faves, so excited for this!
Nick Miller is by far my favorite sitcom character of all time and that's because of Jake Johnson, of course. He's the mother effing best.
Great dad stories. Almost jerked my tears off.
Love Jake Johnson, and real glad to hear his perspectives on live and death. This is the reality, live it now.
These feels like a conversation between my two favorite uncles that I never see
I love both of these men so much.
Also what an incredible episode. This was a gift.
This was amazing, and Jake's story about his dad really got me. 🤘
It is 100% NOT “fewer gratitude”. Love you, Pete 🤣🤣🤣

Can I just say I loved the pandemic. So relaxing, just lovely, went on a run, went to bed early, had a great time just strolling around
if there were merch with the little cartoon meditating Pete I would throw my money at it so fast
I had this very though this morning,,"I have to at least pull myself up to the discipline to meet the promises I have made to my own ambitions.

Can one in a state of gratitude also venture to change the world in which they live? ❤ Great show, gents 💯
This is awesome
I love Jake so much. My celeb crush.
This was so much fun to watch.
OMG! I’m so excited for this one
Dude… the “Whom I doing?” “Al Pacino?” “Maybe” part is the most funny thing I’ve ever seen on any show. When I binge that show constantly, I have to stop and watch that part every time 😂
Great podcast! Loved both of your ideas! Plus funny and enjoyable! Thank you. Pete is the BEST...😊

Pete would make a great neighbor
THIS IS MY DREAM PODCAST!!!! Pete is my Ram Dass. Jake is a way more digestible Bert Kreisher. 😂 PLEASE create more together ❤🙏
This episode is therapy.
❤ this was inspiring in just the right way. I really appreciate the conversation and honesty about motivations, fears, and goals. Well, everything really.
I am compelled to watch it again, in its entirety, to take notes on my thoughts. Thank you again

Can't wait to see Pete in Chicago!
Do Pete and Jake like Modest Mouse? The way they explain their thoughts sounds like the way the guy from Modest Mouse writes lyrics. And I absolutely love it. This is an amazing pod.
The pod made me check out his movie trailer... Awww yeah I'm watching it tonight LFGD
It’s great to see Nick’s doing well after the Pepperwood Chronicles
Love the new intro, Joe!
Thanks homie!
i thought i loved jake but after hearing his Disneyland thoughts i know it
Huge fans of you both. Great convo. 🎉🎉

Jake Johnson could play David Krumholtz's brother in a show/movie. I'd watch.
What a great episode.
I loved this so much!! I audibly laughed multiple times ❤
Pete with every guest: "we have similar hair".
Loved this episode!!! The silly mixed with the existential!
The NETFLIX sound is enticing and invokes sentiment. The Hulu one isn't bad. BUT, can you guess which I love, beats them both by a small margin, the original Playstation sound; just after you put in a disc and hit the power button! 🥳👍✨

No one is impressed.
You should interview comedian _D'Lai._ He's super underrated.

It took a lot for me to not turn this off when you guys said you don’t like dogs

Planes give you socks? Is that what they serve the peanuts in? All I ever get is airplane ear.
New intro animation and image????
Starting the pod in under 7mins?!?!
@@ericduncan2452A true miracle
Jake, Nate Bargatze just ranted about the same thing on his podcast- how tv & movies need to go back to doing it for the audiences!

Your new video 'God is No-Thing' is blocked in Australia...it said something about Netflix
I was the 200 like, can I please get a free oven mitt🤗
Blasted, I get to play another rousing game of, "Is that Oscar Isaac?" I never seem to win that game.
Get mic arms, I can hear your hands sweating. Great pod 😊
Wait: detective crashmore is in Jack Johnson's movie?!?!?
First time the guest has out-talked Petey. 👏🏼
Jake Johnson is Scott Thompson and John Ritter had a love child.
Oscar Issac and Karl Urban had a baby names Jake Johnson
“Speaking of my movie” was not speaking of your movie.
Jake Is a real dude calm down pete.. you've clearly struggled Pete but this shit different. Great take tho props.
The background being wrinkled is the only thing I can see. Fantasizing about getting a credit card and smoothing it out. Gratitude 12:08
I want to believe the stinky airplane story, but I'm not sure André René Roussimoff could fit in an airplane toilet.
I heard Pete Holmes beat up Shane Gillis.
i stopped listening and watched self reliance and its a pretty good movie. reminiscent of the game but much lighter
I miss Pete's longer hair. Now he just looks like a lighter haired Tim Allen again :/
Pete clearly has a need to touch. Thankfully the guests are usually too far away
You are not a dream, you are known and loved by God!
Ooh so Pete is fucking looney toons. Cool.
