Jake Johnson (New Girl, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Self-Reliance) and Gareth Reynolds (The Dollop, also on New Girl) don't feel qualified to give strangers good advice. Most of their friendship over the last 15 years has been based around dumb bits, but they do (for better or worse) want to try to help people out. Like your friendly local bartender or your tipsy uncle at a family gathering, Jake and Gareth are on the caller's side and trying to help.

As much as I would love to see a reunion, or a season with them ten years older, or just like a looong episode where the couples all go on vacation together without the kids… Max and Jake are right, you need to be so careful to not ruin the original ending that you created (though tbh season 7 was not that strong in terms of writing)
You know what would be so funny, they did a party where they did their ten year Anniversary of them living together (tinfinity 😂) they could do a 20 year anniversary of them all being friends and call it twentiversary😅
Exactly. The story ended satisfactory enough, but the way they got there irritated me. But that being said, I’d hate if they undid anything and ruined it.
A long hour special would be nice like an update to Schmidt being a dad, also Winnie being a dad. And if Jess and Nick are still together
I would love to see something like they did for Friends. It is like a happy medium between a long episode and a podcast type reunion
I agree the last season was Mehh but the finale was great
Jake's really right. Didn't see this show at all on primetime. Watched the hell out of it repeatedly on streaming. And I think New Girl goes on the same way I Love Lucy continued for decades.
tWeNtYnOiinE ... LOL.. I just turned 29 on June 15 anddd its what I call my "Schmidt year" 😭🤣😭🤣🤣🤣
My wife and I watched the whole run and now my kids are at an age where we are going to let them start watching it.
When my daughter started watching it as a teenager, it was such a proud and bonding moment for me. lol
The greatest 3 new girl characters Schmidt, Nick and the pre school
Security guard from the final season
Um what? He did NOTHING!! TYPICAL!!
I would be the happiest person in the world if I got a new girl reunion! So long as they write it well.
Is New Girl still on Netflix in the US? Cause over here in Asia it's on Disney+
Hulu these days
The last season was trash. They could use a redo
Reunion idea-
One last game of True American. Where the rules are actually explained, so I can finally play it at home.
OK, fine. I guess I'll rewatch New Girl. Again. For the like, 8th time? Fine. Twist my arm.
Currently doing so 😂
Same here 😂@@peytonmcdonnell6068
Lmfaoooo”it was too much work for me” the most nick miller thing I’ve ever heard you say 7:48
Several years ago, New Girl replaced Friends as my go-to “comfort show”
I watched it live and now I rewatch through streaming services. It’s all of your cast chemistry and just equal parts friendship and weirdness that makes it so good. And even all of the guests, from Justin Long’s character to Dr. Sam, everyone just “got it” so well 👏🏼
I have it on my phone in under my computer while I work 😂 I don’t need to watch, I know what’s going on
@@ameliafoley9569 😂😂😂
Same. It’s hard to replace Friends in my heart, but New Girl is something special.
Omg Nadia is my favorite of all time. Her one liners kill me to this day.
Me too! Have you seen schitts creek?!
I ve always said New Girl and Community are the most underrated comedy series that people are FINALLY investing their interest in…over 10 years behind but glad it’s finally happening vs not at all.
"Oh, the old girl!" didn't get enough credit there.
Yep, if the new season isn’t them all in a senior living community being their hilarious selves, I don’t want it!
For real!!!
@@kari9292 I thought it might be their kids moving into the loft and Schmidt's old apartment. But that would probably eliminate any romantic storylines since those kids would be so close, they'd probably think of one another more like cousins.
@@cv8499but I hate when they reboot shows and it’s about the kids Frasier, Boy Meets Girl, Fuller House… all cautionary tales!!
@@myswagobsession Agreed. But catching up with the gang wouldn't be all that fascinating either since they don't live together, their love lives are settled, their careers are figured out...
The fact that they are all actually friends in real life makes me so happy lol
When Jake said he has a new found appreciation for the show because of new people finding it, it really made me self aware of my fandom. I only started watching it just to see what it was all about because it was on Netflix and I wanted to give a background-kinda-sitcom a shot for when I was playing video games and shit. I am now 100% certain I have watched/could quote/know more about this show from top to bottom than any sane person should. It's a comfort and an absolute gem, one of the best TV comedy shows ever made.
I watched season 1 when it came out, season 2 when it came out, season 3 when it came out, season 5 when it came out, season 6 when it came out and season 7 when it came out. I've always loved this show from season 1. Even though season 2 and really 3 is where the shit actually gets started and accelerates into what I love about the show.
At this point it's a running joke at work to throw random GIFs on Teams at me so I could explain the specific scene that the GIF is taken from. I can usually name the episode and what happens and only sometimes do I have trouble with recounting the scene that happened during that GIF.
I had more trouble remembering a scene based on sound and words than I had based on video, which is impressive because the show doesn't film a lot of different areas...
I even remember the scene that I had problems with... It was parent trap where Nick kissed Jess's mom and regretted it but would do it again.
New Girl is my one sitcom obsession I can't get over. Nick, Schmidt, Winston, Jess, Cece and everyone else have no idea how much I love the characters. Neither do the real actors, but I love how real Nick Miller is to the actor and it gets confirmed everytime I watch an interview with him.
We built this Schmidty on tootsie rolls!!!
I can never un hear this now
It’s crazy that max doesn’t realize that cece and Schmidt became the love story of the show. Zoey and nick were most definitely beloved but the love story OF THE SHOW?? 100% cece and Schmidt.
I agree with this, but I wonder if it might have been different for people watching it on air on a weekly basis 🤔
So true. I still get teary eyed eve eye time I watched the wedding episode 😂❤
@@dacodahinegardner1149I watched it as it came out and def turned into a Schmidt and cece love story after nick and Jess broke up
@@dacodahinegardner1149 I most definitely watched it live and we were obsesssssed with Schmidt and CeCe. In all honestly they were able to draw Nick and Jess so long because they kept us satisfied with cece and Schmidt. If they hadn’t there would have been a riot 😂
@@connorg.563 when he dances at the engagement party with ma hot moves ghandi. I tear up every time!
“Do you think they’re really friends? You know, when the dancing day is done?” 😂😂😂
Schmidt and CeCe is the best love story ever told. Proposing to her where he in the beginning told her he was going to marry her someday. 😭
That's why I thought they'd be more sentimental about the loft at the end. It's where they met, where they fell in love, where they slept together for the first time, where he proposed, where they got married.
I'm a 47 year old dad with three boys. New Girl is my favorite TV Show. I think on the whole, it's a perfect series. I have probably watched it from start to finish at least 100 times. My two older boys have watched it just as many times. Everyone talks about the romances but the friendship that Nick and Schmidt had, should not be overlooked as well.
Get me a cookie, got you a cookie man!!!
It wasn’t a cookie, man … it was a piece of his heart.
=> should not be overlooked either.
Sam and Diane - ppl who got this reference ->>
I loved that reference ❤
The ending of the show was the best I've EVER seen in a comedy sitcom. Specifically the last True American scene, that was GOLD! It had us laughing and crying. It showed their future and recalled their past. It continues to be one of my favorite scenes in ALL of TV.
I do love the idea of Old Girl. I see Golden Girls but with the New Girl cast, when their kids have all left the nest. Instead of 29, it would be Schmidt yelling 79! LOL
No it got to be 69!
I’m 38 and it’s been such a comforting part of my go-to TV for years. It’s still hilarious. Still sweet. And at times. Super weird. New Girl is what it is I think because of the chemistry you guys had. The bits you improv. I mean just you guys specifically. Hard to imagine anyone else in those roles.
I am a 31 year old man who started to tear up over hearing Max talk about how much Liz loves these characters
Max Greenfield can never escape Schmidt now, I'm afraid. Saw him in American Horror Stories and he mentions "THIS ISNT IN THE PLAN" and I was flashing back to him saying the exact same thing to Nick
Jake and Max I hope this gets to you, but man I just want to say I’ve been watching since 2013-14 and New Girl has been my favorite show of all time since then. My buddy in college showed it to me and I was hooked. Max is right, not only is the show imo the funniest show I’ve ever seen, but it makes you feel like you’re with a group of buddies when you watch it. Now that I’m 30 I relate even more to the show too. Thanks for making it and being a big part of my life over the years. Wish you guys the best in your careers, and would def love a reunion or more seasons if it would be possible. Thanks guys much love 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Ah!! I didn't realize it was already that old. I remember watching it when it first started, but it doesn't seem that long ago.
Time slow down please.
New Girl deserved the big cast appearance and the big panel after the finale. Jumped in from the world premiere if the pilot and by the middle of the 1st season you could feel the magic.
16:34 Jake blaming Lamorne and Max telling Jake that Lamorne blames him is a ver Nick, Schmidt, Winston thing
Why did I need this podcast talk tho? Anything with more new girl or more talk about new girl with the cast and ESPECIALLY with you two….its just “home” watching it. How can I explain it? I love it so much!
I agree new girl is my comfort show
I want to start season 1 again with all the behind the scenes context of what was going on with Max and Jake now 😄.. Max killing it and Jake feeling lost 😆
Hand on the douchebag jar - I constantly rewatch this show to this day, as i have since I started in 2011.
I had just moved to St.Louis, away from all family and New Girl got me THRU that 10 yr chapter ❤❤❤❤❤
From Schmidt and Winston's physical humor to Nick and Jess' best on-screen kiss off all time, to everyone's improv and tonal brilliance. It's THE best show I'll ever love.
I'm so grateful y'all keep the love real and that we still get to see you!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is and will always be my comfort zone. So many quick comedy moments. Also such a great show to see friends support each other.
Anyone know the episode they're referring to about the ridiculous running to a garbage can around the 9 minute mark?
I wonder if they’re talking about “Parking Spot”: Season 2, Episode 17
I think if it’s reunion show of them maintaining relationships while being parents and changing as kids get older. Doesn’t have to be a lot of scenes with kids but I can see Nick and Schmidt knowing all the girl talk in their teenage daughter’s lives.
I'm 27 now and watched New Girl when it came out. I always loved it but it wasn't until I was living in my first share house that I rewatched during covid and became a huge fan from just how much I started to relate to it. It perfectly captures how life is hilarious and weird and unpredictable and how the friends that you live with that you maybe didn't know two years ago are suddenly people you can't imagine ever being without. I spent three years living in a house having to trick the landlord every quarter because we had an extra person not on the lease. I don't think you need to undo the end of the show but it's lovely to tune in and hear you guys talk about loving it as much as we do!
New Girl has and will always be my favourite show ever. I watched it when it first aired in 2012 and I never stopped. I was so upset when they took it off Netflix
Feels like Jake is Nick Miller. I never noticed until now. His mannerisms, attitude, and communication skills are all the same. 😂
Why is that third dude just there? ? ?
Jake Johnson and the other guy, Gareth Reynolds- host the podcast, mWe’re Here to Help’. Max is a guest and this is just a supplemental conversation mostly between Jake and Max
7:51
I have recently started rewatching the show, and Nick was funny from the beginning. Maybe Schmidt/Max got all the good punchlines, but Nick/Jake was naturally funny right from the start.
I'm in my mid thirties and I recently discovered new girl for the first time. I laughed, I cried, I found so much joy in this wonderful ensemble of characters. I love it!
Jake Johnson being insecure about his performance in New Girl is a ridiculous concept to me. There's a reason he's on my list.😉
I just got introduced to the show barely Two months ago. I've heard of it but new watched it til now. I'm watching it again from the 2nd time 😂GREAT show
I finally started watching new girl a few months ago. Great decision
Max...I started watching the show because of u. Everything pointed to this show being a "chick show" I don't fall for that crap. Once I saw a Wayans was involved I was hooked. You folks are absolute gold. Max, you became one of the most perfect characters. I cant beleive what you folks accomplished. Everyone involved deserves the warmest fuzziness feeling knowing they gave us everything they had. I hold this show as top five of all time. Nick is my spirit animal. Thanks Jake.
OMG this whole podcast was already like a reunion for me, Max and Jake are so much like their characters and they have such incredible chemistry. I enjoyed the heck out of this. I could watch those two do anything! ❤
I just rewatched that episode the other day with the scene where they're brushing their teeth... it's so perfect. It's only episode 5 and already their chemistry is so palpable - they do these little smiles and my heart just melted
Schmidt was the funny one and Jake was jealous of his lines? I only started watching the show because of Nick!
Schmidt and Cece and Schmidt and Nick were the real love stories. Jess became the least fave “lead” character ever.
Remember when Schmidt decided to move out of the apartment and went to live next door across the hallway in a really empty apartment? And at the same time Coach is trying to get Nick fit and they’re working out in the lounge. The workout track is the ‘Britney Bitch’ tune and Schmidt can hear the music from his apartment across the hallway. And he starts freaking out because he feels left out and screams ‘great work out track’ 🤣🤣🤣 truly one of the greatest shows ever, a real classic
watched the show weekly as it aired on fox and stuck with it until the very end! still my favorite comfort show. the fact that you could tell that you guys genuinely just loved working together is a big reason why it's so beloved. so much of my sense of humor is because of this show so thank you forever for it!
Same. That show brought out such a happiness for me every week. Proud to say I was a fan when it first aired.
it’s really interesting to hear them talk about how they thought new girl wasn’t successful and didn’t do that well until covid because i grew up obsessed with it and watched it live and i feel like everyone I know at likes of not loves it, but I guess i just surround myself with people with taste 😂
Are we going to ignore the picture of Winston in the background? haha 🤭👌
It's Friends in LA. Nick is Ross, Schmidt is Chandler, Winston is Joey, CiCi is Monica and Jess is Rachel. No Phoebe because Jess is quirky already. I'm not saying they are the same characters, I'm talking about character setup and story arc style for a sitcom. Every big young adult sitcom that lasts uses a story arc like this. Their example of Big Bang doing this is spot on.
I was 12-19 when this show came out. I found this show this year when I was 25. This show has become one of my favorite go-to shows and is easily one of my comfort shows.
I would love for Max, Jake and Lamorne watch every episode and do commentary and behind the scenes stories and Zoe and Hannah and Damon can be guests now and again. I think 1. It would be hilarious 2. It would bring new girl back without bringing back a new season and it potentially not being as good. I absolutely adore New Girl and any chance I see Jake and Max together I watch ❤
Imagine a future show that has the kids from all couples from How I met yr mother and New Girl
Hubby and I go through spouts of rewatching new girl. Among all the other similar shows, Friends, HIMYM, Big Bang and New Girl lol
The best show in my opinion. I've watched it through and through at least 5 times since it's came out.
Its a movie you can watch over and over
I watch New Girl in it's entirety at least twice a year and casually throughout. I love it so much! It's such a great show for anybody that's starting over..
Im 23 and discover the show like a year ago in TH-cam clips and absolutely fell in love, LOVE the show, the characters, the stories, everything. I talked about it with my godfather (50 yrs old) and he had watched it too! New Girl truly is loved by many generations
Honestly : *Quite* desperate for you guys to just pull a Will & Grace -- (pretend the end didn't happen, and just carry on like you would have)
like most of us millennials do NOT have it together rn so you could do as wild or tame of a concept as you want to keep the gang together and keep the same vibe going
New Girl has been my comfort show for years now, and always will be❤❤❤❤
And Gareth was there too.
Schmidt and Cece made the show..they helped me tolerate Zoey
i never would have known this show wasn’t a hit when it was airing. i was like ten when it started but me and my younger sisters always tried to sneak some non-kid tv time by watching new girl.
fell off watching it live around s5 but when i turned 18 and tried tinder it seemed like 90% of ppls bios were “just a jess/schmidt looking for my nick/cece”. always assumed this was one of the biggest shows on network tv haha
New Girl was such a defining show for me, being roughly the same age as you guys and portraying the issues of the '30-turn' in such a realistic and hilarious light (even though I had 2 kids already lol). Then when my daughter started watching when she was in HS around 4 years ago , it was such a fulfilling, and bonding, thing...and I loved how she spread the show to ALL of her friends. I was so proud honestly.
And the fact you had an episode dedicated to our Minnesota King, Prince. 💜 Never can go wrong with that.
New Girl Apocalypse Movie would be the only acceptable reunion
Hannah Simone & Max Greene were so great on New Girl
I'm so glad I discovered this channel! Jake Johnson is such a great story teller. He was on Justin Long's podcast a while back and had these funny stories about working on New Girl and about his dad. I went back and re-listened - so good.
It wouldn’t be the same unless they somehow got that apartment back… but I would watch anything they put out even if it sucked.
I love New Girl. I have seen the whole series many, many times. I will always watch it, and I would love a reunion!
New Girl AIN'T ever going away. On rewatches it's even funnier because you catch new stuff or stuff you forgot about and it's a fresh laugh again.
I put Community and Arrested development on loop and eventually had to take a break. And they are GOATs too.
I wish Liz would just gather the team and make more shows with ensemble actors like them... Better yet, with them.... Because there's only crap out there right now.
Max had great chemistry with Jake, zooey and lamorne
Man thinking he wasn’t funny on the first season is crazy I always look to him to make me laugh may be we have the same mentality lol
No kids reunion would be fantastic. We understand they'd all have their families but for them to be in a situation where they're alone would wholesome for old times sake.
New Girl will always be my favourite show. You guys were all geniuses and still make me laugh just as hard as I did when the show was still airing on tv. Forever grateful for the show & cast. ♥
Did they talk about that epic Tenessee Mornings interview?
In a couple years they should do an ATL version - Who dat guuurl.. ItJe
New Girl is a better version of Friends.
Yea I said it. And it's true.
I’m 23 and have loved New girl for ever❤️❤️❤️😭 Nick was always my fav & Schmitt was 2nd fav❤️😍😍😍😍 love y’all
To be honest the relationships drove me nuts, when nick and Jess broke up essentially because Jess couldn’t handle Nicks bad habits felt like it didn’t make sense. Then Schmidt breaking up with Cici for no real reason, eventually get back together, then Schmidt cheats on her, blames nick and Jess in a way and swears he will mess their relationship up. That whole arc was annoying and I wish it was more chandler/Monica storyline.
Also please don’t do a reboot. Or some storyline where their marriages get rocky or whatever. If you do another show or movie, do it without unnecessary drama just so you have a storyline.
I’m advocating for a season 8 modern family style.
I definitely don’t want to see a reunion. I LOVE New Girl and rewatch all of it at least once a year. A new series or film where the kids have gone off to college and is still centred around the main cast would be great, but, there’s too much money in the game now and the networks would 100% ruin it (just look at Frasier).
New Girl was perfect 99% of the time, we need that legacy to remain unbroken.
Also the cast’s inexperience back then brought the realness we identified with, I honestly don’t think that could be replicated now because (and this is an odd statement), the cast Is too professional and would over think it subconsciously.
As much as I’d love another bunch of seasons, I can’t see a world where that wouldn’t be a huge mistake and ruined by a network cash grab - wouldn’t be the fault of the cast btw, but the people with the money have the last say
I wanna know when New Girl will be available on BluRay.
I’d say about every 6 months I have to rewatch New Girl from start to finish, just love it 🥰
Jake wasnt in freaks and geeks? He isnt david krumholtz?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Tooootally. 😂 I love it.
I discovered it in college 😊
If this show ever leave streaming services I will 100% ne heartbroken. I legit watch the show on repeat over and over
You could learn how to use uTorrent and The Pirate Bay. I have all seven seasons of New Girl on my laptop. In fact, I have complete downloads of many sitcoms.
It’s my comfort rewatch show. The only other show I’ve watched as much is the simpsons.
Begging Liz for a reunion.
Yeah yeah yeah yeah right right right right
What I loved about New Girl is that they transitioned into “real” adulthood so well and ended in a perfectly random way where they had to split up that they could come back and just explore a new set of story arcs about whatever time in their lives they have now, make it relatable to that age group (since New Girl is such a “just out of college, taking on the world era in the characters lives) and it would be successful. If not commercially (who fucking knows anymore, garbage wins all the time, just make the writing and the vibes right) then at least successful as a well written and shot show.
I’m down for literally whatever. I want’m all back. If Damon came back and was acting like a wizened old coach who was overly serious about everyone around him finding the warriors spirit in them to achieve their goals or some shit because he’s having a hard time dealing with aging and Nick and Jess were worried about their kid thinking they suck or something, it almost doesn’t matter lol
The character chemistry is everything. Schmidt’s daughter in the final season was INCREDIBLE casting so if they just focus on that then they could do anything. They could do a random 10 episode season here, 10 years later do a movie there, you know.
I think the idea is there is no “end” in the show. You don’t show them die, that’d be crazy and sour the whole thing. You just make some good ass stories about different moments in their lives and do it whenever it makes sense.
New Girl is an omega-level feel-good sitcom event. Keep it feel good, make the arc interesting and keep shit real at its heart and goofy “my work colleagues can’t know I’m like this” friendship vibes then they could do literally anything.
And I would very much like it so please, Liz, you got this. It’s in your dang ass bones
I’ve looked for the scene Jake talks about around 9 min where it finally clicked for him but I can find it. The parking spot episode is 2.17 which seems way too late in the show.
Right from the get go I always found Jess to be the least important and least likeable character in the show... Everyone else (apart from Coach) is just So Strong; Hilarious and Charming. They all did just fine without her in Season 5. I think a lot of us here would happily watch a Winston, Nick, Cece, Schmidt spin off, for the rest of our lives.
They definitely ruined Fraiser
New Girl was such a great show and I still love rewatching it.
😂 Jake, you don’t text Damon????!!
I’m just a girl looking for her Schmidt! This show was genius. I will rewatch it forever.
I just finished watching the series the first time. Missed it on the original run but found it in Netflix. Netflix gave new life to The Office as well
WE NEED A REUNION. ASAP.
