Plumbing is a very seasonal job, we can be crazy busy in the winter and next to nothing in the summer...its the same every year but every year people will panic due to the lack of work. The work is out there its just we forget how to get it and put too much pressure on ourselves if we are not booked up until the afternoon of our funerals.
Hopefully this video will help you out and give you some hints and tips on how to deal with the quiet times

I'm a pump Engineer , if we ever have a quiet spell "although I cannot remember our last quiet spell " we make the most of it. Catch up on training courses , workshop modifications and so on. Totally agree on all your points . Advertisement is all year round , from the way you carry yourself to the state of your vans to how you communicate. Keeping up that A star craftsmanship is a must throughout. Main thing like you say multiple times , Do not panic it will pick up
Advertising all year round is a good one, lot of people stop when they get busy but your advert might not appeal to someone at that moment in time but may become relevant in months to come 👍
Thanks for advice! I have the same situation, a bit quiet, just feel nervous recently
Thanks for that advice Luke.❤ . Eliminates questions as a newbie. Really appreciate that
No problem 👍👍
I got a shout out 🎉❤ great advice this! 😊
My man 🙌👊👊👍
Great video. And an important one too
Thanks mate 🙌👍
Great advice here buddy keep it up 😊
Thanks mate 👍
Mean time … the local handyman is none stop with plumbing jobs 🙃
Outside taps for £40 👌😂
Some great advice mate. I'm in a different trade, but i know from years of experience that i'm only a few weeks away from being quiet, so keeping up with marketing is vital, even when you're flat out.
Annual services are a must as you say. Not only does it bring in additional revenue, it keeps you in touch with that customer and allows you to offer them other services every year. If you don't they could easily lose your details then contact someone else when the need arises.
I install 3 days a week now which gives me time to do quotes, services and admin. (and enjoy some time to myself, which i believe is a must when running you're own business. In fact, it's one of the few benefits of going it alone these days). Good luck to everyone lese out there grinding a living out for themselves 👍
Great advice and insight mate thanks for the comment much appreciated 👍👍
Thanks for the advice. I've been really panicking lately. Suddenly I'm as busy as usual
Feast and famine mate, not found an inbetween yet 😅👍
@bluebulldog_uk haha I know it's never a steady flow. Whenever I have a busy stressful day that's when the phone rings. This is my second year trading on my own so I still panick when it gets quiet but honestly it's great to hear your advice buddy
Last year when it went quiet, I did an email to all my customers, subtly reminding them I was still here, and it went nuts after that.
That’s what to do mate, be proactive 👌👍👍
❤great video
Mate I have been worried it’s slow but just have go back to basics I have started posting on FB I did a post and got 3 possible jobs in the hour
Good man 👊👍
My son had 5000 cards made, delivered them locally and got a load of work from them, the advert in the local paper did nothing. I there’s no work we play golf or go on holiday.
Love that you make most of quiet time with golf and holidays 👌👍
We have never been so busy I can’t keep up with it at all. I know there’s only 3 of us but we probably have enough work for the rest of the year
What kind of work do you do?
@@bluebulldog_uk mainly full house refurbs, extensions and newbuilds
We have been quite for a few months now. We even had to lay off an engineer today
Sorry to hear that mate
You sound like Captain Manerings Corpiral Jones, dont panic lol
😂👍
Everything is so expensive. I do quotes and think its expensive. Don't work for nothing. Stay home and have some family time.
Spot on!
Agree, I do some quotes and it seems so expensive now
I go out on my motorbike, great for forgetting your troubles.
Very helpful video as always. What was the make of your tap removal kit again. Time for an investment 😊
The one i use to do taps? Nerrad Tappex kit 👍👍
Yh 4 days here too 👌🏻
Lovely 3 day weekends 👍👍
I’m going to replace my garage roof when I go quiet. I was going quiet, but then went away. Once I get rid of the backlog, I’m getting stuck in. I have no overheads though
Let me know when that garage roof gets done…I been sorting my scrap out when I go quiet for the last year 😂👍👍
I thought plumbers just used the quiet times to count their money.
Most plumbers play more golf than Rory McIlroy 😂
Bought a money counter, gets boring after a bit 😅😅
It's not the same , last 4 years been busy, this year is back to normal
yes bit of a struggle i always think its me
Everyone will be same 👍
Unfortunately Luke what iam finding is were iv been going so long my customers are dying off and its hard to replace good customers so i may have to retire earlier than i thought
Loyal customers are not easy to come across nowadays mate
Don’t worry, Labour will get in soon and concrete over the country….more work, crowded country 👍
Genuinely bizarre man, I work in social housing and this is the busiest summer I've ever worked.
Really? Its it mainly maintenance or installs as well?
@@bluebulldog_uk Majority repairs man. Installations get contracted out and boilers need to be >20 years old or massively economically unviable to repair to be shipped out where I work 😂
I work in white good industry that's also very quite at the moment
Hopefully picks back up soon 👍
My son's just qualified, NVQ2, Plumbing, what's the best way he can go to get work? Cheers
Tell everyone he’s not a plumber… but a handyman that can do plumbing jobs
By car.
@@bled83 Or buy a car, thanks
local Facebook groups am really good to get work, normally you do 1 decent job and it snowballs on them groups 👍
Yes its quiet. Everyone I know is.
Individual plumbers are not the best business men/women as they rely on recommendations from friends and previous jobs instead of being proactive in seeking work through any number of trade sites where people with plumbing problems send their job details and any plumber can get the job. When busy you don't have to respond.
All plumbers that work for themselves are not business men, they can do the work no problem but the business and admin side is something self employed have to try and learn and deal with best they can
We have been spoilt in the coveid period as people were spending money was busier than ever
Very true
Never ever lower your price or standard
100% agree
check a trade is a scam
100% not what it used to be from what I’ve heard
